I was recommended to come here by my Hybrid Mechanic, Electron Automotive to have my back up camera looked at for my 2012 Toyota Prius C. I had gave them a call and right away I was given great customer service and was able to schedule an appointment that worked with my schedule (especially since I live in the LA area). I brought my car in and I have to say Ray (the shop owner) took real good care of my car. They took the time to check and see if my original camera and wiring was good along with even checking the radio head unit. Sadly my original camera was no good and my radio connections were bad (due to the previous owners of the car) but Ray gave me an alternative to replace my back up camera and have it display on a new review mirror. They did amazing work, Ray is definitely awesome and I'll be bring my car back for all my audio needs. I highly recommend coming here best decision I made and I got something amazing put in! Recently the satellite radio in my Prius stopped working and I went to the dealer for repair. Was told to drop the car off and they would notify me after checking for the problem. Spoke to Speaker Works and was told what the problem most likely was as there is a common default. Took the car in and a short time late I had my car back with the radio playing! I wanted to upgrade the very basic factory sound system in my 2015 Mazda 3 sedan. Rob first walked me through a complete system with new front and back speakers, new amplifier, and subwoofer with an enclosure in the trunk, which was more than I felt I needed, and a lot more money than I wanted to spend. Then he said, "But you don't need to do it all at the same time, maybe just start with new front speakers." And that is what I did and I am overjoyed with the work they did. I spent a small fortune and several years trying to get the Audio System in my '08 Avalon sounding up to my standards, which was tough, as I'm a perfectionist. I have a copper chassis Eclipse dead head, Morel Elate 3 ways, a McIntosh 4 channel amp an Alpine 600 Watt D class amp for bass and an Image Dynamics IDQ 12" sub and after spending untold sums of cash at multiple "expert" stereo shops, until bringing it to Speaker Works for a proper subwoofer enclosure and system tuning was never happy with how it sounded. After leaving it with the Holdaways for 3 days, it FINALLY sounds perfect. There is no substitute for their knowledge, experience and commitment to quality work.... HORRIBLE SERVICE!!!! If I could go negative on the rating I would. The owner there is VERY shady; not an honest businessman. His return policy is a rip off. If you want to return an average cost stereo, he will keep more than half the cost of what I had originally spent in the re-stoking fee and re- installation of my old equipment. I bought a stereo that did not work properly in my car. I went back the VERY NEXT DAY to report the problem. I told him I wanted a refund and for them to re-install my old stereo. I am aware that there was probably going to be a fee to reinstall my old stereo but he informed me that he was going to keep more than 2/3rds of the original price of the new stereo plus a re-installation fee!!. He insisted that the problem with the new stereo was my car and not the unit itself. This could not be a possibility because my original stereo did not have any problems whatsoever, I only replaced it because I wanted something a bit nicer, nevertheless he would not take responsibility of a faulty low quality stereo and kept blaming my car to the point that he suggested I buy a new car!! . In order to prevent any further altercation, I was obliged to change the brand of the stereo to something much more expensive. The new stereo worked well but I had to pay over 100 dollars more for it. To make matters worse, he was charging me extra to install an accessory that CAME WITH the new unit! This should have been included with the installation fee to begin with. BEWARE of this place!!! If you do any installations here the owner will switch the new items in the boxes to old used items in his shop. You won't know that he did that unless you see it because the items will already be installed in your car. I bought a stereo with a mic but opt out to install the mic because he wanted to charge even MORE for that, which is an accessory that already came with the stereo. I was going to have a friend install it instead of him. I asked him where he left the mic and he said in the box. I checked and I noticed that there was a used old taped up mic in the box. I went in the store and asked if all the items in the box were new. He said yes and I told him why was there an old used taped up mic instead of the new one in my box. He acted surprised as if he didn't know about it. I made him open a new box and give me the mic from the new box. PLEASE BE AWARE THIS GUY IS A SHADY AND A DISHONEST BUSINESSMAN!!! After talking with them I would've gone to a different place if I knew of one that was just as convenient. The guy said he would call when the car was done and I received no phone call...had to go in and check if it was done. These guys used to be the best. This shows what happens when the father of a family run business leaves it to the son. I went there and spent alot of money on a high end system. The results were just OK and the manager didn't seem to care. To add insult to injury, they padded up the final invoice with lots of installation accessories that made it even more overpriced. Another bad experience here. I had read the 8/16/2011 review and still took a chance going there. I should have heeded the warning. I recently went there to have a CB radio installed in my Jeep. I brought all my own equipment (new in the box) as they requested because they don't carry "CB" stuff. When I got there, the guy behind the counter had a negative attitude right off the bat and it seemed as if he didn't even want the job. He begrudgingly walked out to my Jeep to see where things could be located and before he even stretched out the antenna cable he "barked" that the cable was too short (it wasn't). I told him it was clear to me that he didn't want to do the job and I was going to take my business elsewhere. Then he tried to change his tune and said he wanted to do the job but by then I wasn't comfortable with him or having their shop do the work. I took my Jeep down the street to another shop and had a nice job done in a couple hours. I will not go back to Speaker Works! read more
