I took my car to his shop because of an issue I thought was related to an anti-theft system that I was experiencing on a car that I had just bought and I wanted to get it removed to solve my issue. He immediately was able to diagnose that the alarm wasn't the problem, but did not hesitate one second to help me figure out my car. We worked together inspecting the car, scratching our heads but ultimately, he was able to figure out the electrical wiring issue I had. If you have a high-end vehicle with an elaborate sound system you basically have two service options in So. OC, one in Newport, the other less than 5 miles away in Costa Mesa. My Bentley has a 20 speaker sound system and nothing is easily accessible. It's like owning a boat...Break Out Another Thousand no matter how small the service need is. I needed to replace a blown speaker in the dash. I gathered quotes from both companies. Victor at So Cal Audio Solutions was a regular nice guy who explained the challenges unique to my Continental GT Speed couple and why the labor would require 8 hours to complete installation of two small speakers. Yep...a thousand bucks. Then I visited the other shop to get an estimate. When I shook this guy's hand, I instantly felt the need to shower. An icky feeling enveloped me and I could not wait to get outta there. Then I received an initial email from him stating, "This is a minimum 20 hour job. And would probably run into the $3500 to $4000 range to replace one 1.5 inch speaker. What I recommend is not replacing the dash mount unit, but disconnecting them and relocating some new tweeters to the door or the kick panels. It would be about a quarter of the price." "In a second message, after explaining how an overhaul of the entire system is best he writes, "Our labor is $140 per hour, 22 to 26 hours is my guesstimate. ( $3000 to $3600ish ) and $300 for a set of tweets Audiofrog GB15s would have the same characteristics of the OEM tweeter but sound much better ( just remember, I have no control over how they sound as I cant change the EQ/DSP settings." The email goes on & on like this and near the end he states, "I'm not telling you this to scare you, I want you to know what you are getting into. No matter how good the tech, no matter how anal retentive they are, sh#t happens. We do Rolls Royce, Bentleys, Ferraris, Lambos etc. We are not afraid of any cars, but there are a few cars like yours that are the bane of our industry." So if you trust your gut like I do and hand your fob to Victor...you too can enjoy the amazing sound you require without the inflated costs, delays and bovine excrement that their bigger competitor spews. My advice, get quotes from both places but wear a glove when you shake the other guy's hand. Ewwww. Vic fixed my system in a single day and when he removed the dash he discovered some bolts that secure the air bags missing nuts (see pic) and before reinstalling the dash, went and found the missing parts and installed them all on his own. That says all ya need to know about the man. Zero room for improvement. The sound is back to normal (which is amazing) and I am completely satisfied. So Cal Audio Solutions sets the customer care bar so high, the competition needs to charter a jet just to see it. Actually, with the prices they charge, they can probably go see it in their own jet.
