Michael Thompson, the owner/operator of Method Sound is one of those rare people who perform a service as if they were doing it for themselves. He takes a lot of pride in not just doing a great job, but in making sure that it is better than great. You get what you pay for, and it couldn't be more true when it comes to high end stereo systems. When we first met, he took the time to totally explain everything to me. He showed me the equipment he recommended and had me listen to a couple of systems he already had installed that were in his work area. He even made a little diagram. We spent a good 45 minutes just discussing what I wanted. I was on a waiting list because he runs the shop by himself. Rather than working on a bunch of cars simultaneously, he puts 100% of his focus on whatever vehicle he is working on. We had a minor issue in regards to the agreed upon timeline, but we ironed things out very quickly and I took my truck in late January. 2021. Thorough isn't a good enough word when it comes to how he put in my system. This word isn't used very often in the stereo installation business, but he is a craftsman in every sense of the word. No shortcuts, no cutting corners, no trying to pinch a nickel here and there. Looking at how he installed everything, it's easy to see why he has a four month waiting list for customers. He spent several days working on my truck. Periodically, he would send me pics, and describe to me what he was doing and why. He also called a couple of times to talk to me as well. Super professional. What counts in the end of course is the sound. The music is so full and nuanced. I pick up things in songs I don't remember hearing. Everything sounds awesome. The highs are nice and crisp. The lows are deep and resonant. My system plays music the way it's supposed to be heard. I am very happy. I would definitely recommend Michael Thompson if you are one of those people that enjoys music to the extremes and you don't care too much about cost if you are going to get a system, and a sound out of the system, that you just aren't going to find anywhere else. Michael was fantastic to work with. I have a decade old Honda CR-V which is a fantastic car but loud when driving around. Michael was able to start working on my car quite quickly and he provided photo updates every step of the way as he completely stripped down my car and filling all the major hollow spaces with high quality sound deadening material. After he finished his work, my car looks like it was never touched but driving around it sounds like a luxury car built this year. Michael's work is on the pricier side but when it comes to jobs like this you really do get what you pay for. The sound deadening material was cut and fit perfectly to the panels and empty spaces with painstaking care and attention to detail, and it's a shame that Michael's work may never be seen since it's all beneath the surface. I was initially referred by my buddy Lucas who had a 4Runner done here a few years back. my sister in Law and I were trying to surprise my little bro before his bday with a great system for his new car. I text my sister with the instructions on maybe a couple options because I've been in sales most of my life and have installed a few sound systems with several different places on different cars throughout my life. Had work that day and Little did I know the HORROR story my sister in law literally came back sharing to me after work that she was CREEPED out. She mentioned to me all he did was press her about some guy we had never heard of or even even met. Michel thought she knew some customer that supposedly did him wrong But she mentioned after the first time to this "Michel" gentleman several times she didn't he still began to make HER my 25 year old sister in law. I don't know because I wasn't there but it made her VERY UNCOMFORTABLE by continuously harassing her about this gentleman she did not know. After being harassed for over an hour. She finally got so irritated she told this "Michel" gentleman that we can take our business somewhere else and he proceeded to apologize over and over. After all this bullshit, I told her I would deal with this moving forward and I had to go to this place myself. And the most current review was one year ago?? WTF." Then a second, less reactive thought, "Well, the two reviews are both five stars. Hmmm..." I stopped by Method Sound without making an appointment to talk to Michel and gain more knowledge about the sound system I wanted installed in my 4runner. Right off the bat Michel was a HUGE help and really took his time explaining and demonstrating what it takes to receive the sound I wanted a long with answering all the questions I had. I ended up spending most of the afternoon with Michael making the perfect plan and I was truly sold on doing business. After I received the finished subwoofer with an insane custom made box and amp, a new head unit with a backup camera and apple car play, bass knob, and sound deadening in the trunk. I was SPEECHLESS..... the attention to detail on literally everything even the things that you don't see like the wires that are tucked very neatly away and hidden from plain sight was perfect and very neatly wrapped. When I came back to pick up my car it was in better condition then it was when I dropped it off. Now the sound of my system was INSANE!! I still to this day have not head a better sounding stereo with good CLEAN bass at any volume you choose. The louder I turn up the volume the better the sound gets. There is not a single thing that I wish could be different or that I wish I could change, Michel gave me EXACTLY what I was looking for. Lastly, the more I hear my friends sound systems that I used to think sounded good, I just fall in love even more with the work Michel did for my 4runner because I know how much better my system sounds. I came to Mike's Shop Method Sound because I was looking for someone good to install my car stereo. My father was a mechanic and he taught me that you need to look for someone who takes care of their tools...because if a mechanic doesn't take care of his tools he probably won't take really good care of your car. Mike's shop is minimal but clean and his tools are well taken care of! Then I noticed that Mike was restoring the interior on a BMW M3...which anyone who knows cars knows that these cars are collectible and worth$$$. I noticed that Mike laid down a cloth on the BMW fender when he worked under the hood...As I got to know Mike...he had many nice cars coming through, and I decided that he was the guy I wanted to do the work. Mike is not cheap. But anyone who has installed car stereos knows the devil is in the details! And little details take extra time and patience. Mike was upfront with all cost and the estimate and did not go over budget. When I got the car back the end result was fantastic. It exceeded my expectations! He also used all top of the line wires and connectors!!! Mike did all the work himself, and that is exactly what I wanted! I listen to lots of techno/dance/hard rock and love nightclubs with super high quality sound (e.g. Avalon Hollywood w/ EAW). When I picked up a 2015 M4 with a 16 speaker Harman Kardon I thought, "I just need extra bass and I'm good!" So I took it to a guy in Santa Monica who convinced me to put two 12s in the back. The added bass got me closer to the goal, but the rattling and overall sub-par sound quality annoyed the hell out of me. And it was embarrassing demoing my favorite tracks for friends in the new car - it just sounded like crap. I read the great reviews about Michael & Method Sound and decided to check him out. He was sure I'd get the most bang for my buck by doing 2 things: re-amplifying the already-good BMW front 6s and underseat 8" woofers to fill in the mid-range bass, and sound deadening the entire car to kill the rattling and clean up the sound. At first I'm like, that's it? Just an amp and padding? OK, let's go for it... Got the car back last night. He put 3 hard days of work into it, and holy shit. A WORLD of difference. The bass is punchy, highs are crisp, and even the two 12s now blend in perfectly. It's absolutely crazy to control that much clean power with a little volume knob. As an added bonus, the doors and trunk shut with a cool thwoooop due to new sound deadening material. I still can't believe the existing speakers produce this much clean sound. Just needed to liven 'em up and enclose the car. The final touches included various adjustments e.g. phase switch & BMW equalizer tweaks. Michael is the real deal. His impressive knowledge of sound science and focus on quality install is what clearly separates him vs. the others. It's great working with someone who lives and breathes car audio and has a #1 goal of customer satisfaction, not just loading a car up with "good" equipment. So a few of us took our vehicles here, this place rocks! I did new bright LED's all the way around. They installed a dash cam that syncs to both my iphone and my ipad. I had my entire truck wrapped with Dyno Mat and had some new USB ports Installed in the back seat area so the kids can stay charged up. My buddy had some HDMI cables installed for his iPad and now has streaming Wi-Fi in his car for the long trips to Mammoth. Oh, and he also had a camera installed down low on the front bumper area so he can see the curb before he hits the curb. Ok so I own a 2005 Hyundai Sonata...it came with this radio/CD player/CASSETTE DECK combo thing. I've been using the cassette deck to aux cord for years. Not the best sound, but it does the trick. One day I notice, when I'm playing bohemian rhapsody, that I hear "little low" but no "little high." I realize that my right speaker is out. I am devastated--this is the only redeeming feature of this car. I'm telling you, it's held together by duct tape, zip-ties, and prayer. So I google car stereo places near me, and method sound pops up. I look at the website and see porches and Audi's and bmws but I'm like why not I'll give it a try. I call Michael and tell him about my dire situation, but I tell him about Bessie (that's my Hyundai sontatas name, don't judge) and Michael is like "yeah cool! I work on all different types of cars...and sometimes the lower-priced cars are easier to fix anyway." I'm like cool. I bring in Bessie and Michael does a full sound analysis and discovers it's not my speakers, but my actual radio--if you have any questions about how he discovered this: he turned on the radio and the right speaker worked, but the sound quality was so horrendous I was ashamed of my poor Bessie. So, he quoted me a few different prices, each for the varying quality, size, functionality of each radio. I picked one and it was reasonably priced. He called me about two days later and I dropped her off and he installed it and it was a life-changing moment. I've never had a touchscreen Bluetooth CarPlay anything in my car. I mentioned to him that I had purchased a cheap backup camera and wondered if that could be installed to work on the screen. He said yes--I brought it by and he installed it for another reasonable price, which at the time I thought it was little high of a price, but I trust him. He knows what he's talking about and has that rainman vibe. When I came back by to pick the car up I was early and I saw how extensive the process was to hook up this camera--he had to use his own wire and thread it through my car from the back to the front. He had to take out my back seat entirely to do it. I was like okay I get the price now, it is VERY reasonable. I know this review is very long, but there's more, so hang in there: I finally had a backup camera!! It worked for approx 20 minutes and then when I would backup it would just show a black screen. I think most people would've gotten angry with Michael and assumed he messed up, but I know Bessie, and I actually figured it was her fault somehow, so I texted Michael and he said he'd take a look at it and figure it out. It turns out it was the extremely cheap backup camera I had purchased on Groupon for 10 bucks 3 years ago--the motherboard or something like that was actually fried, like it was BURNED. He replaced my camera, didn't charge me for the labor, and it was awesome. I feel like I have a brand new car that I'm excited to drive!!! Thank you Michael!! So all in all, if you want a sick sound system that's dependable and trust-worthy, reasonable in price and installed by a master, go find Michael. Although michael was recommended to me by someone else, when i first spoke to him i could tell that he knew what he was talking about. THIS GUY DOES NOT HAVE YOUR BEST INTEREST IN MIND!!! Would give this guy a rip off star if YELP had it! I told this guy what my budget was initially... HE NOT ONLY quoted me way more than what I budgeted. HE THEN TELLS ME TO "save up more AND CALL HIM THEN!" and he tried to explain how his "work is amazing and so on and so forth because of his wiring and how he makes sure that he makes the frequencies the best with the speakers!" BOGUS!!! When I already have BOZE speakers In my FULLY LOADED 2013 G37! How the dice rolled, WAS WHEN I ended coming back 6 months later and TRUSTING MIKE!! THINKING HE WAS ETHICAL LIKE ME!!! HE NOT ONLY QUOTES ME WAY HIGHER!! 6 months later! BUT THEN SAYS HE WOULD CUT ME A DEAL BECAUSE HE WAS SHORT ON FUNDS AND MATERIALS for a job he is currently working on and we could book a date a few months later..... which I found odd.... ‍ but he said "its PERFECT timing" this guy 1500$ cash UP FRONT Months early! And my luck which IS USUALLY GREAT WHICH IS WHY IM GETTING A WAY BETTER SYSTEM FOR 1000$!!!! He ALSO has no idea who I know... 1 of my closest friends here in CA IS the GM of INFINITI DEALERSHIP. I'm over at his house today and he is showing me his CARS & what he has spent on his system which is the exact same car as mine. G37 older year. FAR LESS!!! Also has a Q60 2017 and he says I got RIPPED OFF. Said a guy at the dealership could have done a mold FOR 2 10's with separated chambers for the speakers LIKE HE HAS ON HIS G37 now!!!!!! Cost him 150$!!!! And this guy charged me 500$ for a "custom mold 3 8's box" on paper!! and my buddy begins to tell me that MY BOX & subs dont even have separated chamber boxes for each sub because so when you PRESS ONE SPEAKER DOWN THEY ALL MOVE the same time!!!! MEANING: IF one of them ever blew I wouldn't ever know because the all 3 move at same time! WOW! My buddy then begins to ask me what I paid for the amp and SUBS... IS ASTONISHED AS AM I... that I paid 400$ for an off brand piece of crap 650 watt amp!! MIKES cheesy ass 8" sub speakers that HE had laying his garage! said he would CUT ME A DEAL ON THOSE SPEAKERS 33$ each AS WELL WHICH WOULD BETWEEN MY BUDGET AS WELL. But I tThe numbers never made sense! My buddy begins to tell me he spent 150$ on 2 10 inch alpines Brand A LITTLE more than what I paid for his shitty speakers. I HOPE everybody reads this! Please do your research! Plenty of people who do WAY BETTER WORK FOR FAR LESS $ WHO HAVE YOUR BEST INTEREST IN MIND!! NOW, I'm gonna spend another 1000$ SO IT THUMPS!!
