I got a…read moredashcam installed, and while (so far) everything functions well, I was a bit puzzled by the position of the dash cam. It was put right in the middle of my windshield, which caused quite a visual distraction, and depending on who tells you, could be against California code regarding dashcam placement. When I got home, I repositioned the camera to one of the spots recommended by the manufacturer, next to the rearview mirror and out of direct line of sight. Another questionable choice, they cut a slot into the plastic that covers my cruise control wires instead of routing cables through the already present gap between the rear view mirror and plastic cover. This could be on me as well, as I never discussed preferred camera position with the business. I took a picture of the cut they made, as well as a picture with a red X to show where the camera was originally placed. Those choices, while a bit puzzling didn't really bother me enough to go back as ultimately I wanted my camera to be properly connected, and cables nicely routes and invisible. Newport Sound did all this perfectly and I am very happy with that. While this won't stop me from coming back myself, it is worth noting for other potential customers.

The job for both vehicle looks good, and were done at a reasonable time (2 hrs for the Q4 with 1 person and 2.5 hrs for the S3 with 2 person). Customer service is outstanding also, I had multiple reschedules and they were understanding and gave me no issues about it. Rocco took over after trying the traditional route and thinking that we can't afford to spend that much on this car . He first reprogrammed the unit head and amazingly it worked back perfectly. We paid about 15% of the dealership quote and we had it back. Then after learning that we can upgrade to a full 10 inch screen (she had a 5.8) I decided to give her that as a Christmas gift :) we just did the upgrade a few days ago. I dropped off my vehicle promptly at opening (9 AM) and returned at noon to check progress--only to learn that no work had even started on my van. With less than an hour left until the promised completion time, it was obvious the job couldn't possibly be finished as agreed. I politely explained that I needed to cancel and requested a full refund of my deposit, as they had not honored their end of the commitment. Instead, I was offered only $40 back, with the explanation that they had already ordered parts and that delays were due to other jobs running long--not their fault, according to them. I took the partial refund and left, but this left a very bad taste. If I had simply changed my mind without any issues on their side, I would understand them retaining some or all of the deposit to cover ordered parts or opportunity cost. However, they failed to deliver on the clear timeline they provided and never communicated any potential delay ahead of time, despite me checking in. Holding $60 of my money after breaking their own promised completion time feels unfair and unprofessional. Customer service should include basic communication about realistic timelines--especially when a deposit is taken and an appointment is scheduled. I expected better accountability from a business that advertises customer satisfaction as a priority. Unfortunately, this experience has made me unwilling to recommend HB Auto Sound. If you're considering them for audio or camera installs, be prepared for possible delays and inflexible policies on deposits/refunds. It wasn't. The staff member had to go back into the shop to retrieve it -- meaning he had initially told me, twice, that it was already in my car when it wasn't. When I calmly questioned the $100 charge given the minimal work done, the employee became aggressive and told me to "get the f*** out" of the store.
