After an afternoon of jeeping around Southern Indiana, we made a stop at Speakeasy Pizza. While the beer selection was a little disappointing, the pizza more than made up for it. The wood fired pizza was cooked to perfection, and the breadsticks were outstanding. Whatever you do, don't skip the garlic butter . If you're in the area, I highly recommend stopping by. Ok, I'm a New Jersey pizza guy. No apologies. So when I was invited to a get together here for pizza, I was, to be frank, skeptical. The locals raved about the sauce, mozzarella and, more important, the crust. We shall see. I ordered a traditional Margherita style personal pan pizza ... sauce, basil, discs of fresh cheese. My 8 inch pizza arrived hot and it smelled wonderful. Two big pluses. The key, however, is always the taste and the "tooth" of the crust. I dug in and there were two more big pluses. My spouse and I came down to celebrate my birthday with my sister and her spouse. We have never been to this quaint town before. The restaurant itself is on the town square. The staff themselves were masked and gloved. social distancing was not possible. They have high tables and low tables. The pizza oven is a real wood burning oven. The pizzas and calzones are delicious The cheesecake is real cheesecake. if you are looking for a place to eat in Orleans they are worth it. read more

Speakeasy Pizza. Hmm. Where to start? Let's begin by outward appearance. Speakeasy Pizza is located in Historic Downtown Orleans, Indiana, on the historic Congress Square. From the outside it is very welcoming. Upon entering we found the establishment pretty busy. Only 1 table available for dine in. We took a seat. It took about 3 minutes to be greeted and explained that orders are taken at the counter. Pay and tip is taken at time of order instead of upon completion of your meal. Brother ordered a build your own pizza. When it was served, the toppings all fell off the top. Not a good start, but things happen. Cheese sticks were served with what I can only guess is a poor attempt at Marinara sauce. BLAND, no seasoning I ordered my breads ticks with Beer cheese. Much Better! I ordered the Fat Tony pizza and was pleased with the presentation. Knowing that the toppings have a tendency to fall off, I was careful to avoid the same demise as my brother.Woodfired pizza takes talent to pull off successfully. I think there is something missing. This was my second attempt at Speakeasy but my first review. This is little place on the square of Orleans, Indiana. They use a wood fired over to bake the pizza which is unique to the area. We arrived at opening time, 11am. Parking on the square is usually not a problem. On Saturdays they do hold a vendor market and part is blocked off. Seating inside is limited as it is small. They do have a few tables outside for additional seating. Bonnie and Clyde was the order of the day. A cheese, pepperoni, and sausage pizza. If you like toppings then this is a great place. Lots and lots of cheese, pepperoni, and sausage. Large chunks of sausage and lots of cheese piled on top. Did I mention the cheese? The pizza is good...thin crust (which I'm not really a fan of) but the toppings make up for it. Their breadsticks are great! Crunchy exterior with a chewy inside. Seasoned properly with garlic and butter. All in all this is a good place to eat. Fine food, lots of toppings, and good flavors. Only draw back is it can be pricey so be sure to sure to do the math before ordering. And there could stand to be a bit more red sauce on the pizza. This is a great asset for Orleans! Over the past two years, we have come-up from Nashville, to visit familly, and we have eaten here 3 times. It is a little better than Papa Jones and Pizza Hut but nothing to write home about. Perhaps from an overly hot oven, this pizza crust is raw inside; when we asked for crispy crust, 50% of the pizza was burned as black as charcoal. The cheese is disappointed and obviously comes shredde in a bag- the cheese has no stretch as shredded cheese has corn starch added to the cheese in order that the cheese does not clump. These folks obviouly have no prior pizza experience. If they monitored the oven temperature and started shredding their own cheese, easily, their quality would compare to that of Mother Bear's in Bloominton. So close and yet so far. read more

Absolutely the best pizza I have ever had. One of the owners, Cody, (I hope I'm spelling it right) is the nicest human!! He came and talked to us about how this place got started, his favorite dishes, etc. we had a wonderful conversation with him, and he even gave us some beer cheese on the house! First visit today! I've been hearing about this place for a few months, but didn't make the time until this afternoon. Quite simply, it's the pizza I've been dreaming about! 1) Quality ingredients. 2) Good, homemade sauce. I'm picky about sauce. Most places put too much on and it's often thick and bitter/sour tasting. 3) Cheese that really melts. 4) Excellent crust. 5) Friendly proprietors. The owner came over to speak to us, personally. 6) Often, in restaurants you have one or two busy people and everyone else is standing around. Even though the restaurant wasn't quite crowded (yet), there were several visible employees and every one of them was doing something. One of the best pizza crusts I've ever had. Thinner on the bottom and a softer bubbled up type crust on the edges.
