We stopped in for Sunday morning breakfast this weekend and it was busy! We were seated quickly but then sat for quite awhile before our server ever came out. I ordered the half order of biscuits and gravy along with bacon. My husband ordered the oatmeal, which was huge. The portions were very large and neither of us could finish our meals but they both tasted decent. Cafe Sinclair is located in the beautiful West Baden resort in French Lick. It is a marvel and should not be missed. Cafe Sinclair's is open for Breakfast and then again for dinner. My husband and I stopped in to visit the hotel and had the pleasure of enjoying breakfast. We had hot tea service and he a cappuccino from there coffee shop for breakfast we enjoyed pancakes and a rolled omelet. They also serve a tasting of there in house banana bread. My husband said his Mom's was better, but it looked beautiful! Sinclair's is located in the original dinning room of the hotel and with its high ceilings and beautiful windows it takes the dinner back in time! This restaurant is inside the West Baden Springs Hotel where we are staying and on the French Lick Bourbon Trail so it was the perfect place for our first breakfast. The Bourbon Trail item is the Derby Pancakes topped with bourbon caramel sauce so that is what I ordered. I also ordered a side of Applewood Smoked Bacon. The pancakes were huge. They were so yummy that I did my best to finish them but I was just too full. The bacon was very good and I did manage to eat all of that. The service was fantastic. My husband and I went to this resort for our one year anniversary, so it was kinda a big deal. We wanted breakfast in the hotel and Sinclair's is the spot. We were seated by a friendly young man and left to enjoy the ambiance. The server, Patty, eventually made her way over to our table and apologized for not seeing us, not big deal, but we were ready to order by then, so we did. Both of us wanted eggs benedict with spinach, but I also wanted mushrooms and extra hollandaise on mine. He wanted the fruit cup and I wanted the potato casserole. Some short time later, our food arrived and was missing the spinach as well as the mushrooms, and the extra hollandaise sauce. So, we told the young woman (not Patty) that our order was incorrect and she looked at the ticket and told us that it was just as ordered, but that she would fix it and tell our server. We don't like to waste food and my husband was really hungry, so he opted to eat it as it came, but she took mine back to add the other components. Patty eventually made her way back to the table and told us how she asked the kitchen to remake my order and was sorry and that the reason it was wrong was that she was handling the bill for another client and that is why she had'nt had the time to ask the chef about if she should add an upcharge for the spinach and mushrooms. (poor form to discuss this with a client) My husband ate and enjoyed his coffee, but accidentally spilled the cream on the table and floor. When Patty came over again and said that if it had been water, it was no big deal, but that it was cream...you know, that's an issue. WHAT!? Did she just reprimand my husband for spilling the milk??? Yes she did. Then he asked for more bread but she also told him that they probobly didn't have any more bread and if they did it was the last of what they had. Just tell us that you will bring the damn bread, and if you are out then tell us you are out. Finally she did bring more bread and told us that it really was the last of the bread. Who tells their clients that?? Finally my food came but by that time my husband was mostly finished with his meal, so we ended up eating separately. The food itself was a bit on the cool to luke warm side... The eggs were a little runny for me since I asked for poached medium, but still very enjoyable. The hollandaise was creamy but missing the bite of lemon. The spinach and mushroom added another level and I ate every bite! Here's where it gets weird. Patty, brings the bill and even though she messed up on the order she added the upcharge to the bill. We paid for it, but we wanted to leave Patty with some constructive criticism. So we told her how our breakfast went for us. We were surpprised that for someone who had been working there for so long didn't know what to charge for an extra add on, botched both orders, and still charged extra for that, even after we ate separately. Then she said, "I'll be honest, I didn't ask them to remake your order, I just asked them to add what was missing so it could come out to you faster." I don't like to waste food, but why lie to me? She argued with us that since we accepted my husband's food as it was, that it wasn't her fault, that the wrongness was because the kitchen was finished preparing the food before she had a chance to ask about the add ons. Then she said she went ahead and removed his coffee from the bill, but that the manager said she HAD to charge for the extras because of the food shortages and higher prices COVID had caused. WHAT?!? I asked her about employee empowerment because something wasn't right here. She said that she didn't have the power to do that, (another lie,) because the had removed the coffee from the bill without asking the manager... So, we asked to speak to the manager, and that's when she said,"I'll be honest with you; I didn't speak to the manager about the upcharge, but let me go talk with her right now." She admitted that she lied about talking to the manager and was just trying to pad the bill for a better tip. NOT COOL. We said that we still wanted to talk to the manager. Then she said that she would get in trouble if we did that. We didn't want her to get in trouble, but she vehemently said that she would if we persisted. Then she said that she would indeed go speak witht the manager at that time because she felt badly. She came back and said again,"I'll be honest with you, I really wont get in trouble. I mean, I wont get fired or anything like that. I'll probably get a talking to, but I wont really be in TROUBLE." Now I was getting pissed. All the stories, and manipulations, and lies over what...EGGS and Spinach?? WTF? So, yeah, I want to talk to your manager. So finally, the manager came over and we told her the story of our breakfast experience. Patty was the one element that made it so memorable and I don't mean that in a good way. read more

We stayed at West Baden for a long weekend and enjoyed ourselves immensely! I would recommend a long stay at this grand hotel to anyone. It was such a unique experience. The package we had with the hotel allowed for breakfast vouchers each morning. This was super convenient and they have a pretty good variety, so we ate there every morning that we were there. I appreciated the vouchers, and for the most part our experience was great. The first couple of times we sat on the left side of the dining room and were served by a man named Daniel. We got the steak and eggs, the oatmeal, the omelet, and some other items on the various days we were there. The food was really good! I did not have any qualms about anything that was served to us. Daniel was prompt and friendly, and did a wonderful job! However, on the last day we sat on the other side of the dining room, and Daniel was not our server. We had a woman who was clearly struggling to keep up. We were at our table for two almost an hour and a half before food started coming out to us, the order was missing items, and some of the food was not very warm. We had ordered a yogurt parfait and a salmon bagel. Neither one should have taken very long, but they did. After multiple attempts to get her some help and speaking to her a few times. I finally had to go find a manager to help her out and then we were served. She just seemed confused and was hardly around. The other tables around us were having wildly varying service. Some got seated and served right away, and others had our same problems. Other than this experience everything else at this restaurant was great. I would recommend eating here, but be aware of who is serving you. read more

Who know's about the food? Just try to deal with the hostess! When we arrived , I went straight to the hostess stand to make a reservation. No one was there and the servers ignored me. When we got to our room, I called twice and only got the answering machine. I went down to the restaurant again, found the hostess and asked requested a reservation. I did not get a reservation , instead a got a lecture on how busy they were, how the restaurant is only open a few days a week and was also told the hours it was open, told to me in an incredibly disdainful manner. Whew- info I had not requested and did not want. I have lived on the east coast and understand what a Sat. Night can be in a busy venue, which this place was not. I did not expect or appreciate such responses in rural Indiana. read more

But the bagel place is closed Monday and Tuesday, and that is where we found ourselves on Monday. Service was prompt. Coffee was...well, might as well have been water with some dark food coloring. But breakfast was hot and made as I requested. Yes, the prices suck, but you're at a resort. What do you expect? 4 stars for service + food. But I'd recommend hitting up Xanadu over Sinclair's for breakfast. read more

The hotel that Cafe Sinclair's sits inside of is quite the historical treat, but Sinclair's also stands on it's own as a great restaurant. I stopped by for breakfast, while my wife went to her conference. The service was really fast & nice. The setting was great, as well. As for the food, I couldn't have asked for more, both figuratively and literally. The omelette was full of all kinds of toppings & delicious. The bread was great as well. A nice surprise was the creamy potatoes, which added a nice bit of interest. It was also a TON of food. I usually eat a lot & couldn't finish my plate. Highly recommended. read more

We recently stayed at the West Baden Springs Hotel. While there we opted for the Anniversary Package, as we were celebrating. The package came with a $30 breakfast credit, so we stopped at Café at Sinclair's before checking out on Sunday. The décor is nice, like the rest of the hotel it all feels very elaborate. And the menu wasn't bad, though it's definitely overpriced. The meal started with complimentary banana bread that looked tasty. Unfortunately, I hate bananas. I've tried to like them. Promise. I even tried a small bite, but I hated it. We decided to get the Oatmeal, Biscuits and Gravy, and Stuffed French Toast. The French Toast changes daily, and we lucked out with chocolate chip. It was delicious, but unlike any French toast I've ever had before. It was more like bread shaped pancake batter than actual bread.. Delicious, but strange. The biscuits and gravy were also very tasty, and the oatmeal was alright too. The service was great. We were greeted, seated, and waited on promptly. Our server checked with us several times throughout the meal to make sure everything was good. And he brought our check to us quickly, which we needed for check-out. If you find yourself at West Baden Springs Hotel I would definitely suggest Café at Sinclair's for breakfast. They also had some yummy sounding pizzas on the menu, that I'm sure would be great for lunch, but we'll have to wait until next time to find out. read more

My husband and I enjoyed a delightful breakfast while staying at the West Baden Springs Resort. First morning we were there I ordered the classic eggs Benedict. The poached eggs were perfectly prepared and the ham was thick and English muffin larger and tastier than the typical store bought version. My husband enjoyed their rolled loaded omelet and their hashbrowns were amazing! So worth the extra calories, you're at a resort so enjoy! It is a bit pricey so we ventured into town the second day but we were so disappointed in a local diner's breakfast (in fact, the worst breakfast we've ever had at a restaurant). Our third morning we returned to Sinclair's for another fabulous breakfast. This time my husband had the Mexican breakfast burrito and I just couldn't pass on the eggs Benedict- always a treat when on vacation. We ate here as our last meal for our getaway weekend. The restaurant is part of the West Baden Springs Hotel in French Lick. I think I can keep the review brief, don't eat here unless it's the only place you have to go. The only highlight was the iced tea and the french fries. I ordered the Wagyu beef hamburger, rare, with fries. What I got was a burnt burger. The onions and tomato slice had been in the fridge for days. So the burger tasted burnt with mushy toppings. The fries were perfect, but that was a side dish, not my meal. My wife got a paninni, nothing special and looked dry and boring. She got a little souffle cup with sliced grape tomatoes. Those tomatoes, again, were old, mushy, refrigerated, and MOLDY! I would rather go to the Sonic down the street that eat here again. The meal was $35 before tip. read more

The Lox was standard and the stuffed french toast was a little disappointing as it was drizzles the maraschino cherries from a jar. The latte was great and the complementary banana bread was killer. But enough about that. The reason it gets 5 stars anyway is because the tea was just that good. It was beyond perfection. Loved everything from the amazing scones to the awesome tea selection to the fantastic finger sandwiches. Seriously all amazing. So glad we went. We had breakfast from here twice while staying at West Baden. Both days were really yummy. The pancakes were delicious - light and fluffy. The bagel with lox was also really good with the perfect amount of onions and tomatoes. The highlight was the "continental" breakfast which had several really good items. Honestly, in French Lick/West Baden, you are trapped. If you're staying at either of the resorts there, I suppose they don't even have to try to provide great restaurants because you have no choice but to eat what is available. We visited Cafe at Sinclair's on a Sunday morning before heading out of town and back home. We were told the Cafe was serving brunch until 3:00 p.m. The West Baden Springs Hotel is gorgeous, and we hadn't eaten at that hotel yet, so we thought we'd give it a shot. Big mistake, big disappointment. I sort of wondered how much you can mess up breakfast, but as it turns out, very badly! I ordered the rolled omelette with my choice of filling. The omelette was served cold, despite it not taking very long to get our food after we ordered and the fact that the dishes came out stacked and covered with those metal covers like you would see on room service. Maybe it's just me, but that's tacky, right? Anyway, cold eggs & cold cheese are just nasty. I asked for hot sauce to try to improve on the eggs, but waited 10 minutes for it and finally gave up. The best part of my meal was the potato casserole that was served with the omelette, it was very good. My husband got biscuits and gravy and some sides of bacon and sausage (he's quite the pork fan). I had a bite of biscuits and gravy and did not like them. I've had gravy before with too much sage, but this was a flavor I couldn't quite put my finger on, and it wasn't good. The gravy was pasty and cold. My other 2 dining companions ordered the eggs benedict, and they said they had definitely had better. The eggs were completely cooked through and the hollandaise looked watery. Overall, it was a poor dining experience, I wish we had waited to get out of town before trying to find breakfast/lunch. After our poor dinner the night before at the steakhouse at French Lick, we should have known better than to expect a good meal, but I guess we wanted to give them another chance. You are solely paying for the ambiance. The hotel is beautiful, the restaurant is decadent, and even the restroom is truly a room where you may want to have a seat on the velvet soat, prop your feet on the flowered ottoman, and rest. As for the restaurant... I went there on a Sunday for brunch with a large group. Coffee comes with the meal and on the table was some tasty orange-flavored bread and butter. Great so far. We ordered, chatted, waited, chatted, waited, explored the restroom, waited, inquired after our food, and were finally served. I had the Quiche Lorraine and there was nothing "Lorraine" about it - no bacon, onions, or Gruyere. It was a plain quiche with slightly under done crust. I got a side of the potato casserole too, since other Yelpers had raved about that. The potatoes at Paoli's German Cafe were so much better! My hubby got the biscuits and gravy. When it came out, the gravy had already glazed over and there was no sausage to be found. Afterwards, we decided that next time we would go to the Denny's across the street and come back to the atrium of the West Baden Springs Hotel to sit, digest, and soak up the ambiance instead. read more

First, let me say that I'd eat in this restaurant for its beauty alone. Located off the atrium of the West Baden Springs Hotel, it is a stunning space in keeping with the architecture of the rest of the hotel. We felt like we were dining at Downton Abby! Our family group of 13, which included 4 young children and two teens, had breakfast at Cafe Sinclair. Both service and food were impeccable. I called ahead, and the staff had a large table ready to accommodate our unwieldy group in an uncrowded section of the dining room. Loaves of fresh baked strawberry, banana and zucchini bread were waiting on the table when we arrived. Those who had the stuffed French Toast said it was the best they'd ever had. Those who had the rolled omelets said the same. The potato casserole that accompanies most selections was incredible! The children's menu offered huge chocolate chip pancakes large enough to feed adults as well as large portions of other choices such as cereal, eggs, bacon and sausage. Breakfast in Cafe Sinclair was a highlight of our overnight visit to West Baden Springs Hotel. Our experience was completely at variance with several others who have commented here re: breakfast. I will add that the adults in our group have traveled widely throughout the world so we were not just bedazzled by the architecture which IS bedazzling :-) read more
