[[HIGHLIGHT]]Very German restaurant and gift shop.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Glockenspiel chimes outside 2 minutes after the hour.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Salad bar ($6. with entree), with soups and light desserts, then can order from menu for an entree or ample choices on salad bar alone. Entrees include German favorites, non- German choices and sandwiches, sides. My pork chops with kraut was not what I expected. Chops were tough ( smoked but did not mention that on menu), and kraut was sweet. The gift shop has many lovely, cute German products and foods for sale.

Absolute gem!!! Miss salad bars? They have one loaded with brilliant options. Classics with some special self serve ingredients and premade salads. Alongside, 2 soups homemade soups, bread, and the most delicious apple butter. Use the salad bar as a meal or add on. I suggest you add on because you don't want to miss out on their entrees. All the German favorites +++ Everyone in the family will have multiple choices to make it difficult to decide what to order. We shared the German tenderloin which comes with bacon and cheese. The bun is grilled and buttery with a design branded onto the bun. Such a classy touch! The tenderloin was perfect! The best I have ever had. We opted for a side of German potatoes (fried with onions) and they transported me back in time to Grandma's house. The staff were kind, courteous, and attentive. Prices are worth the quality and quantity of food you receive. Make sure to visit their general store for gifts, accessories, wine, and German imports. Our family will make this a must stop when we are in the Jasper area. A+++ Schnitzelbank! Thank you for a phenomenal experience.

We had the giant pretzel with cheese sauce. The pretzel was tasty, but the cheese sauce was pretty bland. We had dinner salads that were really big & fresh. My husband had goolash for dinner & enjoyed it alot. I had shrimp skewers and a loaded baked potato. The shrimp were good, but a bit chewy. The potato was kinda hard to eat bc it had been broiled & the cheese was a bit browned. Even though we were really full, we were encouraged to try the carrot cake. Well, of course, we HAD to get a piece to-go. I had a few bites and it's soft & spicy. The rest will be for tomorrow.

Pros: great food, [[HIGHLIGHT]]inviting vibes[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]], very friendly and capable waiting staffs, [[HIGHLIGHT]]ample seating[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]], plenty of parking Cons: not much!!! Maybe food can be a tad too salty. This is my favorite restaurant in southern Indiana!

    Excellent service from these two!

Enjoyed the tasty hospitality of Schnitzelbank at a recent anniversary party they catered. Excellent service. Over and above!

What a gem in the middle of Indiana! We drove to find a Hilton and wanted a local restaurant that had quality food. Boy did we find it! Amazing menu and decent prices. So worth the drive!!! Only my trip to Germany was better!

Okay, so I'm making my way through a Midwestern town and I stumble across a Swiss looking Chalet.... How could I NOT stop? Giant pretzels? I'd never seen a chilled metal salad plate before! And the service??! Of course, how could it be anything but top notch from someone wearing costume right out of the Bavarian Alps? [[HIGHLIGHT]]The ambiance was such that I thought I was in Switzerland for a commercialized second.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Such a fun alternate midwestern reality![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Oh, and the food was great too! I think I'll be back. In fact I might travel back to Indiana just to eat here again!

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Schnitzelbank is worth pulling off the interstate for! A lovely German restaurant with a fun gift shop is a recipe for leaving stuffed and happy.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] All the German standards are on their menu along with a salad bar that is worth adding to your meal if only for the delicious bread. The food did have its hits and misses but was overall pretty good for its location. The mustard they provided is the best I've ever had and worth driving there for. Pass on the apple strudel - it's actually not good. Service was good and portions were big!

My wife and I stopped for our 28th anniversary meal. [[HIGHLIGHT]]First off the restaurant is charming. We can definitely see the German influence as soon as you pull in the parking lot.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We were greeted well and taken to our table quickly. The food was exceptional. There was nothing that we had that we did not like. It was authentic, it was delicious, and if it was closer to me, I would visit often. I enjoyed the three meat sampler in which everything was perfect from the German potatoes to the dishes I have no idea how to spell. We ended our day with German chocolate pie. The icing on the cake!

If you go to Jasper, IN to spend any time at all, make time to go to Schnitzelbank. To the locals, it's known as "the Schnitz"! The have a variety of American food like chicken tenders, hamburgers, steaks, pork chops, etc. There's also a comprehensive list of traditional German dishes. The service was outstanding and spot on with refills. There was a full list of wines and beers in tap and in bottles. The servers all wear German style clothing which adds to the ambiance of a nice family restaurant.

The restaurant consists of three floors, all decorated amazingly. We were seated in the basement area and had a wonderful server named Jordan. We started off with drinks. I had a non-alcoholic strawberry garden fizz, my husband had a tequila old fashioned, and our son had a Shirley Temple. For an appetizer we shared the Maine Lobster Caprese. Next we ordered the Nando wedge and French onion soup. For our entrees we enjoyed the Maine Diver Scallop Bucatini, Agrodolce Wild Duck Breast, and our son had sides of macaroni and cheese and Parmesan Truffle Pommes Frites. While we were absolutely full after these courses and had parts of our meal boxed to go, our son insisted he had an extra stomach for dessert. We ordered the Lemon Tart and Creme Brulee. We had the bourbon soaked cherries that came with the crème brulee put on the side. The menu selections, the ambiance, the staff, and especially the food were all amazing. We can't wait to come back with other family and friends. *I did forget to snap a few pictures of some of our dishes.

The croquettes had a lot of interesting flavors and textures - again, worth sharing with a group. The burger and fries was just okay. The brocollini was nice and citrusy. I really enjoyed the flavor of the brussel spouts. The brazilian cheese bread was also delicious (reminds me of the ones from fogo de chao). Otherwise, our server was very friendly and attentive. Highly recommend!

I had the fried shrimp, and they clearly were NOT just frozen shrimp they'd bought somewhere and fried, these seemed homemade. . .definitely NOT typical mass-production shrimp. The food was pretty good. There's two things I would list as downsides, however. The first is that the wait for service was pretty long. It was quite a long wait from when I ordered until I got my food. That's a minor downside, given the quality. I got the picture they might not have a robust back-of-house staff. The second, and bigger downside is. . .I didn't go there expecting a seafood place! The well-worn sign out front still says "Deez Butts" BBQ, and I'd followed signs from the freeway exit thinking I was going to a barbecue joint. When I stepped inside, I pieced together as I was standing in line that the BBQ had closed and this was now a seafood place. It was good food, but I was expecting barbecue and was too hungry to bother hunting for another place to eat. I was left wondering if they couldn't afford to change the (well worn) sign out front. It just seemed a little odd that the sign out front is for a barbecue joint, but it's a seafood place inside.

It was so dang delicious that I can't wait for the next tournament to go back!! We had the crawfish dip, crab leg boil and shrimp boil. It was all so good but lemme tell you about these crab legs!!!!
