The food, service and everything about BO-MACS is worth the drive if your ready for a top tier experience. I love the area.

Very seldom give a place 5 stars on the first visit. Outdoor seating. Really wish I could come here often, there is so much to choose from. We got the double hamburger. Decorate it any way you want. Ours was lettuce and tomato. These are not the boxed patties that come pre made. These are hand made. Not many places do this any more. The patties when cooked are about 5/8 to 3/4 inches thick. Nice and juicy. These were the best hamburgers I have had in over a year. Actually I can't remember a better one in over 10 years. The lady hat took our order was helpful and nice. Every-time I come this way I will definitely give them a visit. If you get within 50 miles, take a detour, it's worth it. One more thing. The price was less than the other places. Portions were large. Our table had shakes, big boy burgers, fries and mushrooms. All of the food was yummy. The big boy was too large to eat. Service was friendly although they were a bit busy. Outdoor dining and from your vehicle was available. read more

This is a really nice little hometown diner. They have several picnic tables that you can sit at to enjoy your meal or you can just sit in your car and the carhops come out and take your order. You can eat there or take it to go. It sounds crazy to say but I think we have been here the last 5 Sunday's to either eat or just get ice cream. My son is a huge fan and we had to buy a T-shirt for him at one of our visits. Today when we went the owner came out and asked if we were the family of the boy who loves Bo Macs and she had brought him a hat! She also took him inside to see where all the food is made and he got to make his own strawberry sundae! She seriously made his day! He has been on cloud 9 since we got home and will not take his hat off! This is one of the things I love most about small towns. We have amazing experiences every time we go. Now on to the food... they get their hamburger locally for their burgers and they are amazing. They also have cheese fries, fried mushrooms, really anything fried that you could want. Their ice cream is delicious also. They have several flavors of shakes and I will say the blueberry shake is hands down my favorite! It is loaded with blueberries! My parents and I visited French Lick Indiana and happened upon Bo-Mac's.. if you're ever in the area treat yourself to a step back in time. Pulled up and was waited on promptly by a sweet waitress. My 80 year old parents enjoyed the curb side service! Excellent food and perfect ambience. read more

I'm happy to find this place is still a bit frozen in time, in the best way possible. They have everything you'd expect from a classic burger and shake joint, plus some pretty good fried chicken. They even make pizza now. This place was a huge part of my childhood. My family goes way back in Shoals, and even though I grew up a few towns north of there, we were "down home" almost every weekend when I was growing up. I have many fond memories of cheeseburgers, fries, cherry coke, and milkshakes in styrofoam cups, served on a tray that hooks on the car window. However, the young females waiting tables seemed to care more about talking gossip and boys than waiting their tables. when asked after 20 min if we could get just our drinks, we were told no they are too busy and they will just have to come when the food arrives. Every time I come back to Indiana it's during the winter so I miss out on Bo-Mac's incredible food. I have fond childhood memories of coming here for fried mushrooms and vanilla shakes. I remember sitting in the back of the car with all of my cousins fighting over who got the last mushroom or fry. This is an old school mom and pop establishment with cheap prices, good food, and great service. Situated in a nice small town, it's a bit out of the way unless you're passing through. We stopped here on out way to French Lick resort. The main downside of our dining experience were the flying bugs annoying us while we ate at the picnic tables. The food was good but seemed hit or miss. They had an absolutely terrible chocolate malt. It didn't have nearly enough chocolate flavoring or malt powder. It was more like a vanilla shake than a chocolate malt. In fact, the chocolate flavoring was just dilute enough to make it unpalatable as either a chocolate or vanilla dish. My strawberry malt was okay but they forgot to add malt powder. The burgers were decent but didn't make up lackluster desserts. I might give them a try again to see if we just came on a bad day. read more

Eh, my most recent experience here was not so great. The waitress was extremely slow, preferring to hang out with her waitress friends instead of helping us. Our food, the catfish sandwiches, was overseasoned and not very tasty. The fries were all end pieces of the potato - every single fry. And the bill seemed high for what is essentially fast food. It is a drive-in and that is pretty neat, but if you have small kids you won't be eating in your car with them. Stopped here traveling through town and it was a great find. Great burgers (I loved the Big Boy), chicken breast sandwich and ice cream. The kids enjoyed their corn dog and chicken nuggets. Oh man, this place is classic. You're driving along US-50 through the Indiana country side and then you get to Shoals...home of Jug Rock and the Catfish festival...and Bo-Macs! It's as much of a treasure as Jug Rock! It's an old school drive-in where the high school girls come out and actually take your order. Great food too, wifey had probably the best corn dog ever, the shakes are yummy as are the malts. Extensive menu too, burgers, the southern Indiana favorite tenderloin (both grilled and breaded) coney dogs, frozen concoctions. Yum. And as a bonus they're open on Sundays and accept plastic! This place used to be better but I've based that on a whole lot of years of coming here. The onion rings are good but kind of heavy on the breading (used to be a lighter batter that got crispier). Still better than 99% of ones you'd get other places. I was disappointed that they don't have the raspberry shakes anymore but instead have a mixed berry shake - took one drink and got rid of it as it was nowhere as good as the raspberry shake. The coney dog sauce recipe seems to have changed over the years too (and for those of you who wonder, coney dogs are not chili dogs). I hate that it closes at 9:00 PM as I'm a bit of a night owl, but there may not be the traffic these days to keep it open later. read more
