I used to come here all the time when I interned at French Lick. The fried pickles were often a full meal for me after work. My husband and I were passing through town and had to stop. The pickles were as good as I remembered! The staff is friendly and the food came out quick. We had the whole patio to ourselves which was nice. Especially since it was a beautiful day and we got to sit by the river. My only complaint is that the pulled chicken was very dry. Even with it slathered in BBQ sauce, it still wasn't my favorite. Worth mentioning t​hat the d​ay before w​e t​ried t​his place, we turned into the lot of Porky's, a​nd was a​ step f​r​om parking, but decided we could ultimately do better. The next day was a long day. It would have been forever before we were back near the hotel and the food in the area, so Porky's won. Upon a second Yelp examination, we determined it had the most profile of the restaurants in the very small town of Paoli, so it should have been worth a sincere try. Our apprehension, after t​h​e visit, felt ​​a little unreasonable. This place was a solid pitstop. First, we didn't realize originally that the open space slightly below the primary parking lot was additional parking. This place not only gets busy but they also host car shows occasionally. What seemed to repel us and intrigued us the most during our initial assessment of Porky's were their more than several Italian entrees - largely the flatbread pizzas. At a bbq establishment? They were probably either amazing or a terrible addition to catch the out-of-towners who might feel they were too far to get to anything else with a plethora of food options. We didn't order the pizza...neither here nor there. We started with the Munchie Basket, their wings, ribs, and frieds platter. On to our mains, I got the grilled cheese with the bologna filling - house chips as my side - and the traveling companion ordered the fully dressed breaded tenderloin with the house slaw. The basket was a near perfect round of appetizers. The garlic rub wings and the fried pickles were probably wh​at​ we c​onsumed with the most en​thusiasm, but the onion r​ings and ribs worked as well. The grilled cheese was cool. The bologna "steak" was worth the $5 upcharge. Not sure if the plain ​ve​rsion would hav​e been a​l​l that exciting, so I'm glad the meat option was something to choose. The house chips were great potato chips, but being served so many, there may need to be a concocted dip that comes with the side. The fried crispy chips get to be a little one-notey with the simple salt tossed on before they go out to the tables. My ranch and ketchup mixture provided some relief, though. The tenderloin sandwhich wa​s ​a lot o​f​ f​ood. The s​l​aw gets p​oints for being made in the restaurant. Nothing to write home about. My companion was ultimately satisfied with the plate. I had fun trying out different combinations of the restaurant's bbq sauces on the cross section bites of my grilled cheese. The traditional sauce is probably my favorite, with the sweet version coming in second. Think we would enjoy coming to this place and exploring what menu items Porky's does well. They can field a lot of combinations of entrees and add-ons, so if you're passing through, get adventurous. But you probably want to get friendly with your waiter and ask about favorites. This is one of the best BBQ restaurants I've eaten at! The staff is super friendly and checked in on us often. The building is older and gives off a hometown feel. The decorations are nicely done with lots to look at. It was very clean and the food was delicious! We got the brisket platter and the pulled pork platter, we chose the creamy coleslaw, German coleslaw, Mac n Cheese, and steak fries. My husband and I split the two platters so we could enjoy it all. I'm not one to usually complain but man this place has really gone down hill. First problem: we asked for a high chair and it was crusted with food and had no safety clasp. Second problem: floor and table were very sticky. Like shoes make a smacking noise it's so bad. Third problem: Prices are INSANE. They have gone up 2+ dollars from what they used to be while the portions and flavor have gone down in size! Fourth problem:chicken is dry and bland. You have to smother it in sauce to make it edible. Fifth problem: service was pretty subpar. The server only came to our table 3 times (including check drop). She dumped the check 10 minutes after I carried our baby to the car. I walked out right in front of her. She should have taken that as cue to drop the check. My husband had to stop her from walking away to request a box. She turned to some other server and asked them to get it. She didn't really deserve a tip but I get that some people have bad days. We decided to tip anyway just in case. Btw it was not busy at all so there is really no excuse for it just being an overall bad experience. I travel the country for work and make it a point to find the best bbq in the area I'm working. Unfortunately this is not gonna be one of those places. I enjoyed the decor and laid back feel. You can feed the fish for .25 in the back. I like the vibe. Lots of old stuff laying around to spark nostalgia. The food was good. I've driven past this place many times but never was in a spot where we were able to eat as we are typically driving past to go to a high school sporting event or to west Baden for some family fun. Well, our family fun was early this time and we got to go here on our way back home for lunch! I had the sampler platter so I could try a little bit of everything. While this isn't my *favorite* bbq I've had, it certainly was a good meal and one that I'd eat at again if the opportunity arises. The vibe of the place was very cool with wooden interior that is exactly what you think of when you're at a BBQ shack. The waitress was friendly and attentive and they were very accommodating for our young one. Now for the food: The fried apples were different, tasting more like pie filling - but was good. Do you love BBQ? This place has it and it's AMAZING! So many great items and meat to choose from! This place is a local gem, looks small on the outside however they have lots of seating, even outside. The inside is decorated from floor to ceiling in various memorabilia, antiques, and themes. For example there was a barbershop area with old artifacts, sports, newspaper clippings, etc. Very neat. We started with appetizers. Fried pickles (which were amazing and come with a bottle of ranch for dipping) and fried mushrooms which were also very good. Both are very large portions, great for sharing. The pickles were my favorite, very crispy and the breading was great. I ordered brisket, baked beans (OMG delicious, onions and brisket mixed in), fried okra (not many places have and was actually a selling point for me and this place), and Texas toast. My husband got pulled pork, steak fries, fried apples, and Texas toast. We sampled each other's plates and it was all so good! They make BBQ sauces so they have bottles of various flavors on the table for you to sample. If you like something spicier ask your server and they can find a bottle of something hotter as it's not at every table. Service was great. Value was even better. Great spot for a good meal. We stayed in French Lick for the weekend and I had eyeballed this place a couple times on our way through town. The stars aligned when the other places we wanted to go (winery) were closed and ended up here. They have plenty on their menu to appease anyone in the family and a handful of beer options. I ended up getting some fried jalapenos as an app then the brisket dinner with okra and onion rings for dinner. The brisket was really good.. fairly moist with a good bit of flavor and some bark. Okra was good (not sure I'd had it before).. onion rings were good. Everyone seemed to eat and enjoy their food with the exception of a friend who got the Salmon and wasn't into it. Overall a good experience. service was decent and food came out in a somewhat reasonable time. Restaurant wasn't busy, so the kids got their own booth to color and such and the adults had a table. If you go to French Lick all the good restaurants are in Paoli. We took a drive here one night on our trip and it was definitely worth it. Porky's has the selections of meats you would expect to see at a BBQ place. The sauces are on the table and you sauce the meats yourself. The platter provides a generous portion of meat and two side plus toast. I ordered pulled pork with steak fries and cinnamon apples. The pork was deliciously smoky flavored, juicy, and soft. The sauce selection was Sassy (heat), Tangy, Sweet, and Carolina. My favorite was the Sassy. It has a good amount of heat but not too much. Steak fries were a nice crispy golden brown. The cinnamon apples were delicious. We also had fried pickles and omg . I get fried pickles everywhere I can and these were some of the best. The service here was top notch. We came on a Saturday night and it was a full house. Things understandably took a bit longer to come out but the staff was communicative and taking care of those that were not happy. Very first time of stopping into this place. Heard a lot of good things about their service and food from friends. It was prom day and it was pretty busy but nothing to crazy. We got there around just before 6pm today and was seated fairly fast. We opted to sit outside and the view was really nice with the creek. It took over 30 minutes to get our food order placed and I was alright with that. What took place from there is the worst experience I have ever had eating out. I ordered the $25 dollar steak and asked for a loaded baked, they was out of them by (6pm)? Had to get the steak fries instead and I got a side salad $2 extra charge and green beans. Two boys had a Philly steak and onion rings, and wings and my girlfriend got the pulled pork. I asked for a blue moon with my meal at first. However, after waiting for another 30 minutes for our food to come out, I went inside and found our server and asked her if she could bring me or give me my blue moon. Another 15 minutes goes by before she brings it out to me. We had been there for an hour and 15 minutes at this point and still calm about it, hey they are a bit busy, right? Well I haven't even got my salad at this point which is kinda what you get prior to getting your $25 dollar steak as a main meal? After an hour and a half of waiting for our food, and our server has only come by 3 times, once to get the drink order at 15 minutes after being seated, at 30 minutes to get our food order, and 15 minutes later to bring out my blue moon. In all this time, she never asked us if we needed refills. After over an hour and a half, our food is brought out by a food runner, and my salad still hasn't been brought out, or my side of green beans I ordered. Had to wait another 10 minutes for that to get to our table. The food runner tells me, sorry we ran out of plates, and my steak dinner was just put in a plastic basket with wax paper? Yummy, right? Everyone else's food was good, I tried theirs. However, my steak tasted very bland, no flavor at. To top it off, wax paper started to break apart and was all stuck to my steak with every bite. Our server never once asked us how the food was once she came back out after our food was dropped to our table. I really wanted to like this place, but I just can't! Really bad service and who puts a steak dinner on a plastic basket with wax paper under it? Just wow! I didn't even finish my dinner and that is how it was left at the table. We stopped here on the way back in town from Paoli Peaks. The decor in this small town bbq place is really cool. Lots of neat vintage items everywhere along with recognition for the people from there town who have accomplished feats. I wasn't really in the mood for bbq so I got the chicken quesadilla. It was actually very good. They a different type of sauce cooked into it. Honestly not sure what it was but it was very tasty and added a good new twist on a chicken quesadilla. My wife got the pulled pork platter and was very satisfied with it. The workers were great with our children. After a king day of fun at Paoli they were a little worn out and tired but more than one worked stopped in and talked to them and made them feel important. So that's always nice. I guess the theme could be "Yesteryear" as you'll see a lot of products and historical materials of the general Paoli area, including the nearby resort towns of French Lick and West Baden Springs. The rack of ribs was very filling. Beer on tap (Sun King Cream Ale) was cold. Texas Toast was awesome and the mac and cheese was very cheesy. I was very pleased with this meal. Ordered the pulled pork sandwich, potato salad, brisket sandwich, fries, Mac n cheese, & pretzel appetizer with beer cheese. The pretzels were AMAZING! Soft and fluffy on the inside and a super crunchy outside. The cheese sauce had a really good flavor to it, would definitely recommend. Fries and potato salad were on point. Pulled pork was ok. Didn't have that smoky flavor but with the tangy bbq sauce I'd give it a solid 7. Brisket was pretty tough to chew through wouldn't order it again, would try something else. If first impressions were the deterring factor of this place I would've walked out. My wife and I stood at the counter for 4 minutes while the little gal was talking on the business phone for a personal call and simply ignored the two of us and the lady who entered behind us. When she finally did grab menus to seat us she took the phone with her and you could here her over say "I'll see you when I get off tonight. I love you". Not a first impression I like to start with. Once we were seated it took another 5 min to get our drink order taken. The place was not busy and I saw at least 3 different waitresses plus the girl at the front and the kitchen help. First time eating at Porky's BBQ. We started with fried jalapeños. These were ok but nothing to brag about. The jalapeños were not fresh but out of a jar. Had a strong vinegar taste that made my wife pucker. The breading was mediocre. Not well seasoned either. My 1/2 rack ribs came and were hot. Not spicy at all. They had a dry Kansas City rub on them. The meat on the top half of the ribs were dry...really dry. However, the bottom half of the ribs were very good. The sauces that were prepared were a tangy, sassy, sweet, and Carolina. The sassy was not good. Too much vinegar taste in it. The tangy was ok but not a lot of tang in it. The sweet sauce was like Sweet Baby Rays. But the Carolina sauce was pretty good. The German Coleslaw was very tasty. I hadn't had German Coleslaw in a while so that was a refreshing side item. My wife got the smoked reuben sandwich which was pretty good. Needed to have a little more balance of dressing and reuben though she said. But she said nonetheless it was tasty. Parking at this place is ample. They have an upper and lower lot and both were blacktopped. When we got there it wasn't busy at all so parking wasn't a problem. I'll be back to give it another go round. It was a good meal but nothing to rave about. Not sure what has everyone in the area raving. But I'll give them another shot. read more

Porky's in Paoli, IN was the best surprise I've had in a good while. I ate lunch there on the way back from French Lick, IN to my old Kentucky home, and I'm SO glad I did. The pork rinds are a MUST from the appetizer list (just see the photo), and the brisket was smoked to perfection, and I know my brisket. The home-made creamy slaw was among the best I've ever had anywhere, and the fresh iced-tea came in a giant glass. My sisters stopped in today at 4 it was busy which is a good sign. I would have given it 5 stars on service and 90 percent of the food. The wait was a bit long but they were busy so that was expected. The problem were that my sister ordered fried green tomatoes. They were burned , they waiter took them to the manager and he said that was normal. Sorry I have fried green tomatoes for years they were burnt, at the very least he should have offered a re-cook he did not even take it off her bill. More or less tough for you.Then she had the ruben the corned beef was very thick sliced and very fatty and very hard to eat. It's a shame most of the people that visit the area will never leave the French Lick Resort. They will eat, drink, play and sleep there, and in doing so will miss out on places like Porky's. It's less than fifteen minutes away! The food and value is awesome the people that work there are great and fun to interact with if you take the time. We tried the the sampler and several sides, it was truly amazing. The atmosphere is a quirky collection of memorabilia and very comfortable. The bar is fully stocked and there are a few good craft style beers. Hopefully some of the people that are at the resort will read this and venture out for a visit. I was torn between 3 and 4 stars on this meal. The fact they have cat shelters on the front deck made me go with 4. They have coke products and nice large glasses. The brisket was average with a little more umrendered fat than I'd like. She said the ribs were dry and undercooked slightly at the same time. The pulled pork was decent although we prefer cooked in sauce. I like the sweet variety of their sauce. She didn't like the fries describing them as double fried. The beans tasted good but they were tough and I don't like the crunchy onions I found in them. The Mac n cheese was good very creamy with enough cheese. The noodles were soft which I like, but the flavor did have a little aftertaste. The green beans were interesting well spiced with some meat pieces. The green beans were a little tough too but I think they were fresh not canned. The Texas toast was perfectly toasted but could have used some more butter or margarine. With a name like Porky's, you have to know that BBQ is on the menu. We arrived a little past noon, mid-week, and there was a line at the door. Good first sign. Inside, the distinct scent of wood smoke filled the air - sweet perfume for the BBQ fan. While waiting for a table, I asked the cowboy hat wearing gent behind me what we should order. Without hesitation, he said - the pork chop! My friend said he wanted that and since we try to never order identical meals, I picked the beef brisket. First, the pork chop was thick, juicy and - since I grabbed a piece - amazing. Really, the best pork chop I have ever tasted. Alas, my beef brisket was chewy and tough. So disappointing. Cole slaw was excellent but the fries were average. My friend's baked beans too were just ok. I'm guessing the brisket disappointment was an unusual mistake since other Yelpers rated it highly. I was welcomed by very friendly staff, and seated in booth with a faint window facing outside. I read through the menu and realized they have great prices, but was curious on the portions. I ordered half chicken which included two side and even Texas Toast! The service was prompt and I had some AMAZING smoked/Grilled chicken. The skin was crisp and perfect. They had multiple sauces to pair it with. I also had their Mac & Cheese and onion rings. It even came with onion ring sauce which was spot on... But let's not forget the best thing!
