This is why we eat local while on vacation. Driving home from a long weekend we stopped at Van's for lunch. The smell was inviting. The food was fresh and comforting. I had the pork tenderloin with mashed potatoes. Pickled beets and cole slaw. My husband had the bacon burger. Both were yummy. The local eating there were also really nice.

Right by Marengo Caves. Home cooked food. Little homey cafe. Not the best but not the worst.

This diner is too cute. We ordered a lot of food to try and smashed all of it. No S&P on eggs or anything but overall solid food. The pancake and french toast was butterhome cooking. Our waitress was amazing, really kind girl.

This place is a really nice place. I ordered the steak and eggs(medium), and the steak was cooked beautifully and delicious. The service was also amazing. Would recommend, Five stars.

Mushrooms, already ate some. really good for a good price as well.

Local place, not busy at the time we arrived. Food was fresh and delicious. Just what I wanted from a local cafe. The fried mushrooms were yum, plump and perfectly cooked. And half the price for more of them than the place I had them in Texas. I ordered the hot ham and Swiss sandwich. The ham was delicious carved ham, again cooked perfectly. So good. Along with my favorite type of fries, crinkle. Precisely browned and nicely fluffy inside. My hubby got the chicken fried steak, and said he enjoyed his meal well (sorry, he's just not super forthcoming with his descriptions, ). But we were both satisfied and felt it was a solid meal for great price. Friendly waitress that seemed new on the job but very nice, willing to ask questions as needed. 1. Suggestion for her, which I think happens frequently to new servers, and those trainer her should have pointed out, that you ask your patrons if you want salad and appetizer before meal or with meal.

There were six of us and we ordered five different items - 2 opted for the country fried chicken. Every meal was full of home cooked flavors and cooked to perfection. I had the daily special of soup and salad. The salad was fresh full of crisp lettuce, bacon, cheese, vegetables and toasty croutons. The bean soup was perfect and came with a large slice of fluffy sweet cornbread. My husband said the gravy was the best he has had in recent memory and paired with the chicken and mashed potatoes, he would definitely come back for. The bbq ribs fell off the bone and my brother in law loved them. The coconut cream pie had mile high meringue and was light and coconutty with a flaky crust. The chocolate cake was deep dark and chocolaty! The blackberry cobbler was hot and delicious! Highly recommend this restaurant for food and ambiance!!

The place is very cute, simple, and kind of out on its own which is nice. Parking is plenty. I booked the place so I went before the time I said we'd be there to make sure everything was in order. When I walked in, everything was set up nicely with menus and ice water. There was plenty of space for everyone to socialize. The staff was patient with everyone getting settled and ordering. They also made sure to put everyone's order in at once so it didn't come out of the kitchen sporadically. Food had mixed reviews from our crew. Those who got the salmon, pork chops, steak, and fish seemed to enjoy their food--especially the salmon. Those who got quesadillas, burgers, sandwiches were less than impressed. My quesadilla has a bag clip fall out of it and the pineapple "salsa" was just pineapple and bell peppers so I was disappointed there. People said the burgers tasted like meat on a bun--no seasoning. Those who got soft drinks didn't get refills and we were disappointed to learn that the bar had closed as it was one of the reasons we chose here. The staff did fairly well for the amount of people we had plus the rest of the restaurant. We managed to get in and out in about 2 hours. I am so-so on choosing to eat here again since some loved it and others were not impressed. For the area, it was pretty good. Definitely had its pros and cons.

Having grown up in PA, I'm very familiar with "Pennsylvania Dutch" or Amish and Mennonite cooking. I would characterize this style of cooking as hearty, simple, and high-calorie comfort food. The buffet included three main sections. The first included two soups (chicken noodle and vegetable), salad bar items, prepared salads (such as coleslaws and broccoli salad), and some gelatin molds. The second station was hot items (meats, gravies, vegetables). Finally, there was a dessert station with an assortment of cobblers, cookies, cupcakes, soft serve ice cream, and more. I noticed other patrons with homemade white bread but I somehow missed it on the buffet. Overall, there was a good selection of items available. I most enjoyed the meatloaf, mashed potatoes, broccoli salad, and berry and peach cobblers. The biggest misses were the chicken noodle soup (which didn't seem to contain any chicken pieces, was only lukewarm, and very over-salted) and the chocolate ice cream, which was runny. My husband and I found the food to be generally bland. (Granted, Amish food isn't known to have a spicy profile). In addition, they didn't offer some foods and desserts that I generally associate with Amish cooking -- pickled eggs, Harvard beets, macaroni and cheese, cinnamon apples. shoo fly pie, apple dumplings, fry pies, Whoopie pies, etc. (Admittedly, the traditional Amish foods in the Midwest may differ from those in Pennsylvania). The restaurant had a lot of seating and was clean, and had a cute gift shop that you passed through on the way in and out. Our server was sufficiently attentive. Parking was free and plentiful. The all-you-can-eat lunch buffet was $16.99 per person; drinks not included.
