It is clear that this restaurant is very romantic and I admit that it is very serious and respectable from all points of view.

Stopped by today for a nibble during lunch, and got the grilled cheese with duck. My friend meanwhile ordered the thai tuna lettuce wrap. Both were far better than we were expecting, given their unassuming titles. Definitely will come back another time to check their main dishes. read more

Speakeasy is a cool little bar in Long Beach. They have a few craft beer options with offerings from Troegs and Stone among a few other craft breweries. They offer a few interesting appetizers to share which include avocado fries and guacamole with crab meat. The combination of innovative foods and craft beers makes Soeakeasy a nice spot to hang out in Long Beach. read more

This place is happening! I enjoyed the lively vibe and the good food at Speakeasy. Tuesday is $5 appetizers which is awesome. We ordered the pretzel, teriyaki wings and avocado fries and enjoyed them all. I wasn't sure what to expect with an avocado fry but they pulled it off well, it was very tasty. I'd definitely order them again. The pretzel is huge and served warm, can't beat it. I had the shrimp wrap which was very good served with the most incredible sweet potato strings. I'm glad we found this place in Long Beach, I'll be back for sure. read more

Came here because they used to have a caprese sandwich that was out of the world. Now they have a 'caprese' salad, and when asked to put it on panini bread, the server came back and said he wouldn't do it. Then I ask if there's basil on the salad, 'No.' Once again. This is the bread basket they bring out after 2 No's. Shameful! Made up for it with the check in for a free pint of Guinness - gave us 2. And a free Zeppoli caramel concoction. All in all. Never coming back. read more

Nice place for drinks. The music was a nice verity of different genre. The food however was terrible. Ordered the teriyaki wings and the sauce was horrible. Has a really bad after taste. read more

Unbelievable food, service, and atmosphere. Everyone who works there is so kind and welcoming, and ready at the helm

Was here for a friends bday for drinks. There is something about this place. Its not big, not too loud, and not dirty. The beer selection is small yet varied. I got to taste the quesadillas, which were just mediocre, but before i left i got to taste the avocado fries, wow, out of this world. Might have been the alcohol, but i will be going back to this place, for another try at the food and beer read more

I don't recommend this restaurant for anyone who cares (even a little bit) about food quality. They are obviously using a lot of canned ingredients and everything is covered in orange cheese. The two meals we ordered-huevos rancheros and enchiladas-looked identical. There was nothing fresh except for the avocado. Would you ever order a vodka tomato? That's was they are calling a Bloody Mary and its served in a wine glass. Similarly, coffee is served in a ridiculous glass, stemmed "mug" and I'm not sure why. Servers were all very friendly but not particularly helpful or knowledgable about the menu- but maybe the reason they couldn't make any recommendations is because the food is garbage. read more

It's sort of hard not to enjoy the simplicity of Speakeasy, it's a bar first off that's dimly lit, loud, dark wood tones and heavy wooden doors. Although behind all these simplicities is some really knockout down to earth well done pub grub. It's by all means several notches above your simple bar food sort of place, their prices are reasonable and service is good. A solid place to check out if your coming off the beach and not sure where to head for an easy meal.... read more

I really wanted to like this place. They have a great beer selection, nice decor, dark interior. But the food just didn't do it for me. The avocado fries with sweet chili sauce were excellent, lightly breaded with a creamy interior. But from there it just went down hill. I ordered the portobello mushroom stuffed with crab salad. There was some kind of sauce or dressing on it that just didn't compliment the dish. Also the salad portion was very bland and the crab flavor was very weak. And for $12 it was on the pricey side for what it was. I had some of the burger my friend ordered. Really bland, like they didn't season the meat at all. Which sucked, because it was good quality meat and cooked nicely. Also the sweet potato fries that come on the side are definitely strings and not fries. They're kind of hard to eat and even a little sharp at times. read more

One of our local favorites when in the mood for a drink, apps and burgers. Really cool old-worldy theme going on here with all the wood paneling, bookshelves, Edison bulbs and booths. Their rotating tap menu is par for the course (would suggest rotating in a few more new beers than currently supported). They have good representation across the beer spectrum but are consistently lacking a porter or stout (other than Guinness). These would be welcome additions in the winter months. Cocktails are solid as well. Be forewarned: their spicy margarita is aggressive. The real star at Speakeasy is the food. They have some incredibly delicious appetizers. I would recommend any of their wings (sauces are great and Speakeasy gets them nice and crunchy on the outside/ succulent on the inside) and the giant pretzel (nicely blistered and served up with addicting beer cheese and spicy mustard). The burgers are a steal considering the size. I would recommend ordering one level rarer than you normally would. Do yourself a favor and substitute in the sweet potato strings. Docking a star for some continued service issues. Staff is really personable but can be quite slow on certain days. Not really sure why considering it has not been packed when we have had service issues. Last time we stopped by, we had to wait ~20 minutes to get our server's attention for the check, then another 10 minutes to get the check (originally brought the wrong one). read more

First off I must say that I love the name and think this bar is quite quaint. I'm not going to lie, at first I walked right past the door in order to get into the place, as did several others in my party. I went here the other night after work for some drinks with co-workers and it we had a wonderful time. The bartender was a sweetheart and super helpful and attentive to all of the patrons at the bar, not to mention extremely knowledgeable about everything they had as well. The place was clean, as were the restrooms, the crowd was pleasant and overall it was a great night. The only reason I am giving this place 4 stars instead of 5 is because the music was so incredibly loud and the parking situation wasn't the greatest in order to get there. That aside, I would still recommend this place! read more

Ive been going here for awhile now. It's everything You ask for In a pub. Amazing place to bring friends and grab a drink and watch the Mets game with your friends. For me, every place that located by the water, is already start from 3 stars, and when you can also enjoy a good cold beer, then it must jump to 4 ;). This place is one of my favorite places in LB, not the typical LB bar, but a nice spot, that I enjoy taking my guests to. The starters are my favorite, and their burger and fries is exactly how it should be, not too greasy, but with a lot of taste, and the avocado fries, and the tacos.... Try it, I don't think you will be disappointed. read more

Went here with some friends on the 4th for quick bite before heading back to the beach and we would have been better off just staying there. I ordered the hot wings which came out over fried, lukewarm and no flavor. My friends both got burgers to which they picked over and made a face that lacked satisfaction. On top of that the waitress was snappy and kinda rude. Won't be coming back here on our next beach trip. read more

If I could give zero stars I would. I attended a private event here where the open bar was $66 per person. The person giving the open bar bracelets was insanely rude and decided to overcharge me (I received 2 bracelets but my bank statement reflects i paid for 4 bracelets). After trying to speak with her she quickly dismissed us saying we were in the wrong. I have called the bar 3 times now asking to discuss these charges, and each time ive been told the manager will reach out to me. It has been almost a week since my third phone call and I have not heard anything. Do not trust this place with your credit card, they will charge whatever they feel!! read more

Saturday afternoon brunch on a breezy day. Took a seat on the sunlit patio and ordered from their eclectic brunch menu. Something for everyone here . Coffee was a bit weak and no free refills. I tried the breakfast burrito which came with a side of home fries. Burrito was tasty but would have preferred it without the rice. Home fries not crispy enough for me. My friend ordered the huevos rancheros also pretty good. Portions were a good size and not expensive. Service was friendly and efficient. Not sure if I would try again if in the neighborhood - maybe for lunch. Parking is not easy. read more

No offense, but Long Beach isn't very well known for its cuisine. I typically have very low expectations when grabbing some grub on the West End so was very pleasantly surprised by our meal at Speakeasy on Friday night. My two friends and I arrived around 9pm and it was pretty full, so we waited for an inside table (because you cannot drink alcohol outside past 10pm and we knew we would be eating during that time). So we just had a seat at the bar and waited for a table to open up - took about 20 minutes.. no biggie. Food was great - especially compared to the nearby competition. We decided to order a bunch of appetizers and just split them all (so like wannabe tapas style). Crab meat guacamole? Wow, so good. Mac and cheese was good, but a little runny.. still didn't stop us from devouring it. Steak Cesar salad - amazing. Miso glazed sea bass skewers were ridiculous. Baked clams, standard and tasty. Service was good - our waitress was a little bit sassy, but she eventually warmed up to us, or maybe is just a great faker! After our meal we sat at the bar for a few hours and listened to the live band. They were pretty good. Anyway, I would totally eat here again out of any place on the West End. read more

A unique brick-wall bar setting featuring peaceful lighting and a lively crowd. While the crowd was quite rowdy on a Sunday night (a positive sign), the food service staff navigated the restaurant well. They were quick to seat new customers, polite, attentive, inviting, and demonstrated excellent knowledge of menu options and pricing. The Reuben sandwich and Phat Wrap are highly recommended and do not disappoint. Unfortunately, I will not return to this restaurant, nor do I recommend it to prospective customers because of the actions of the bartender Sean. On two occasions, I paid to use the restaurant's TouchTunes jukebox to play a Zac Brown Band song. Sean was evidently opposed to the song, overriding it within seconds on each occasion. Each time, he voiced unnecessarily loud and rude objections. After the second attempt, he approached the table at which my party was seated and declared, "I'm running the show, and there's better music out there," creating a tense and awkward situation in which a song paid for by well-meaning, non-disruptive customers was dismissed in a classless manner. While the bartender's intention to maintain a certain atmosphere is perfectly understandable, the problem lies in the tasteless and unprofessional manner in which he conducted himself in response to a simple, patriotic, non-offensive song. His actions reflect poorly on the restaurant and the other hardworking and professional staff members. Furthermore, the presence of the TouchTunes jukebox in the restaurant was rendered pointless when the songs for which customers paid were outright rejected by the bartender. In short, there are plenty of other restaurants in the area that boast food just as enjoyable where you are more likely to be treated with respect and where the staff will not create unnecessarily awkward and off-putting situations. My sincere recommendation is to spare yourself the unpleasant staff treatment and to go somewhere in the surrounding area where your business will be appreciated, not dismissed. read more

Nice spot in Long Beach, surrounded by other spots and live Music the beer selection was great and so was the fresh popcorn you get when you sit down. Last night, my sister and I (along with a couple of friends) went back in time......okay, not really, but we headed down south to Long Beach and landed on Speakeasy for our evening meal. Driving by, it was hoppin' and I thought we might be waiting as long as it took for prohibition to end. Luckily when we walked up, a large group had just left and we got a table right away (outdoors too). There was a party vibe throughout the restaurant, but it did have almost a beach-styled-speakeasy (if that's a thing) feel to it. I was very impressed with their craft beer list and went with Ballast Point's Mango Even Keel IPA which was a perfect early summer evening brew. The menu had a nice array of choices as well. For the table, we shared baked clams and (after vetting this place on Yelp and seeing all the reviews/tips for this item) avocado fries. The clams were decent, but the fries were out of this world. It's a simple concept: lightly breaded pieces of avocado, but it was done right and with a sweet chili sauce that added perfect flavor to the dish. For the main course I went with lobster mac-n-cheese, which was very creamy and had nicely-sized chunks of lobster mixed in. Service was a tad slow, but it was a beautiful night so it worked out. Overall, I would certainly return, if for no other reason than for more of those fries! read more

My favorite bar in Long Beach.... Exposed brick, dark with dim hanging lightbulbs, very warm and inviting atmosphere. Craft beer selection is probably one of the best in LB, and it's updated regularly. Awesome bar food, avocado fries are a unique snack, the Pretzilla is a meal in itself, the short rib grilled cheese is maybe one of my favorite things to eat on the planet, and the mac & cheese comes in several varieties. The Cubano sandwich is also very good. It's a small main bar area, but the side room is perfect for larger parties. I've hosted brunch here for 30+ people and it was executed perfectly. Live music on Friday nights can be loud, but the bands are usually good. DJ Ceeza on Saturday nights has been rocking out here for many years. Cool scene on the weekends. These guys know what they're doing, if you haven't been going to Speaks, it's time to start. read more

Good selection. The food was very geshmak. We had the combo pas with bosor v'cholov (short rib grilled cheese). Delicious. Try with the sweet potato fries. Highly recommended. read more

I came here after work one night to eat before a night on the boardwalk with my boyfriend. I wanted to try it, based on the reviews here on Yelp. First, it is small. Theres maybe 10 tables, so expect a possible wait. We came here on a Tuesday, and it just so happened to be Tapas Tuesday. We ordered the chicken wings tapas, the avocado fries and the philly cheese rolls. It took almost an HOUR for those to come out. When we asked the waiter, we were given a slight attitude. Considering the size of the dishes, I was a bit surpirsed at the wait. The avocado fries were good, although the sweet chili sauce completely overpowered them. The philly rolls were delicious. I ordered the short rib grilled cheese with sweet potatoes strings. The sweet potato strings were almost the consistency of home fries from IHOP. They were good, but greasy. My grilled cheese was awesome. I really liked the food, but the wait was very long for bar food. I would come here again based on the food alone. Hopefully, this time the wait was just a fluke. read more

One of my favorites on Long Beach! They recently expanded and has a small outdoor space which is great in nice weather! Picnic tables and good for larger groups. My favorite items on the menu is the short rib grilled cheese and the pork tostata. Friendly staff, good beers. I grew up vacationing in Long Beach as my dad grew up in the area. After going to the same places year after year I decided it was time to try something new and exciting... little did I know I'd come across this gem. Speakeasy will now be on my to-do list when visiting LB. An awesome/fun atmosphere with even better drinks/food. The beer pretzel was out of this world. The friend avocado was delightful and the shoe string sweet potato fries were a must. Can't wait for my next visit. read more

Tapas Tuesday! In prohibition times, a speakeasy kept its customers from loud, rowdy behavior in exchange for booze...Not the case these days Cabana next door had a 45 min wait so we opted for drinks and small plates @ Speakeasy in Long Beach. I enjoyed most of what they had to offer - Tuna tartar, avocado fries, and a (1) huge buffalo shrimp. For $3 a plate I actually thought there would be more on it... Drinks were so-so. The mojito was not a mojito. The Pelican (similar to a bay breeze) was good. I got the sense people came here more for their assortment of beers and sing-along songs (men were literally belting out tunes left and right and it wasn't karaoke night or anything). When the small plates proved to be too small, we indulged in a ribeye steak - topped with calamari and on top of a bed of mashed potatoes. A man's meal, that this girl trooped eagerly through! Not bad when you need a change of atmosphere! read more

okay so this place STILL rocks, thats not in question - however, we went here for TAPAS TUESDAY (who doesn't like tapas? Oh thats right, communists) and I wasn't very impressed - Don't get me wrong - its still fantastic food, thats not the question, but it almost seemed like for some of the orders, you would have been better off actually ordering the appetizer. They were only 3$ a pop, so it was hardly expensive, but the portion size was tiny. I'm talking 3 avocado fries (we're fat so we had to order 3 of them), 2 small sticky ribs, 1 ravioli cut in half...c'mon. The only portion that was worth it was the tuna tartar. And honestly, if I wasn't with people I would have licked every single dish the food came in, it was that good...but do yourself a favor and just order the normal sized appetizers or meals, much more bang for your buck. Don't get mad at me Speakeasy, you're still my favorite Long Beach spot and you still have amazing food! For serious yo! read more

Very relaxed scene. Your standard bar/restaurant except for the strange music selection. However, there is a jukebox in the back which you can control from your phone...so I guess you could change it if it really bothers you. Finding parking was no easy task. However, once I got inside there was a great draft beer selection, delicious food, and both inside/outside seating. I recommend the Pretzilla and the Chicken Taco Tidbits! Solid choice if you're looking to get away from the crowd at the more well-known places. read more

Super awesome place!! Went here last night for my birthday after reading reviews on Yelp and wanting to try someplace new. We couldn't make a reservation because they only take reservations for 5 people or more, but the hostess had assured me when I called that we should be fine. When we got there, there were only high top tables available which I didn't think would work for my father, when I told the hostess she said to give her 5 minutes or so and would have a regular table for us, and right she was. Based off of reviews, we started with the avocado fries and the crab guacamole and chips. I personally loved both. The avocado fries are definitely a personal preference for people due to their unique consistency/taste. I really liked them as well as the spicy/sweet Thai chili dipping sauce. The crab meat guacamole was literally out of this world. I was a bit hesitant with the crab meat and not wanting it to overpower the taste of the guac but it was soooo good! Could have had more. For dinner, I had the short rib grilled cheese with sweet potato strings. The short rib on this sandwich was crazy crazy good. So moist, truly delicious. It was huge and the potato strings were piled 10 feet high so I only had half but made sure to take the rest home. My mom got the Brooklyn style grilled cheese on the garlic bread and she said it was amazing as well. My girlfriend had the chicken taco tidbits and really liked it and my father had the caprese panini and finished it all. We also ordered an plate of the bacon cheeseburger Mac and cheese for the table which was very good, but very rich. Had I ordered it myself I don't know if I'd be able to finish it. We didn't splurge for dessert because we were way too stuffed. I didn't give this 5 stars for two reasons. 1- the parking was awful. My dad dropped us off and then looked for a parking spot for the next half hour and ended up parking about a mile away. Granted it was a Friday night and you're in long beach, totally understandable. However, it was a downer. Also, our dinner took about double the time it should have to come out. Thankfully the appetizers filled us all up and we weren't starving. The waitress did come over and apologize a few times saying she didn't know why it was taking so long and it would be out soon, which again, I totally get. But, it did take quite a while. Overall I will hands down be back here to try all new things. Everything on the menu looked so delicious, I can't wait! read more

Food was decent and comfortable atmosphere. Pricing was a little steep for the quality of the food though. Although our main issue was the service left much to be desired. Our server took our drink and meal order and then forgot about us. We had to ask other servers for drink refills.
