VERY upset in the way the SPCA handles taking in poorly treated animals. I have been dealing with this issue since August 2016. I have called and spoke to many workers and animal control on a cat that is being neglected within my apartment community. This cat is left outside for days at a time through heavy rain, winds, the SNOW and given no food or shelter. I have been supplying food with my own money for this poor animal who just wants love. On many occasions I see him outside wet and trying to hide under vehicles for shelter. In the few months I've lived in my community, this cat has broken his foot, had ticks all over his body, fleas and once I picked him up to help him up the stairs in a tank top and I got RING WORM! The "owner" lives near me and keeps him outside because he doesn't get along with her new kitten. So of course, let's just throw the other cat outside!? I've called the SPCA and animal control about this not once, not twice, but NINE TIMES REGARDING THIS ISSUE!!!!! The first man argued with me about how it is not animal abuse because the cat technically has a home...I'm sorry, but leaving your pet in awful weather conditions and ignoring the fact he has a broken foot, not to mention everything else is definitely considered animal abuse in my book. By the eighth phone call I was so upset, my roommate dropped him off at the SPCA to explain the situation. Given this information, he was returned to his "owner" THE VERY NEXT DAY saying animal control took care of the situation and the cat was not allowed to be outside at all. So what happens? SAME THING. This poor cat is outside during all the snow storms we've had so far this year. I called yet again and left a voicemail with no call back at all. The SPCA in my book, is supposed to care deeply for animals. So why is this slipping through? I shouldn't have to try so hard for them to try to help this poor defenseless animal who just wants some love and shelter. Very disappointed. read more
