Post op care prior to surgery was well over a grand, months of prescriptions for high blood pressure and going in paying 30 dollars for months when my pet didn't even have high blood pressure! Asking questions and wanting an explanation qualifies you as difficult to deal with. They are generalist, scope of knowledge is limited as a technician put it, that called me, as she lectured me about my attitude! Surgery was suppose to be done here, good thing is, they referred me elsewhere to control blood pressure that didn't need to be control. Bad thing I paid for something in advance and it was never done, and sure will not admit it and reimburse me!

The staff is friendly, and my cat comes back shampooed, de-matted, and trimmed down. They're always very responsive to any specific grooming requests, and he comes back happy and unharmed, which isn't always the case with other groomers I've taken him to. The facility is small, but the price is frankly cheap for excellent work. They've also been able to get me in very quickly, and they're excellent at doing what they can to accommodate the client's needs involving dropping the pet off and picking it up. I highly recommend them.

I thought this vet was great. Dr. Ryer was very gentle with my cat, but that doesn't excuse the…read morefact that when I brought in my cat for loss of appetite, they only gave her a B-12 shot and dismissed the need for a CBC (complete blood count). It turns out that my fur baby, my other half, had GI and renal lymphoma. About a month after visiting SPH for my cat's lack of appetite, I took her to an animal hospital in my hometown, and they IMMEDIATELY told me that it was most likely cancer, just by feeling her GI tract. Two and a half months later, I had to put down my fur baby after trying chemo. Maybe she still would have passed away if they diagnosed her earlier, but I think she would have had a greater chance of successful treatment. I will NEVER take another pet SPH. Oh, and they ignored me and didn't fax my cat's records to Embrace Pet Insurance, which I needed because they couldn't reimburse me for her $15K of chemo. Thankfully, the other vet sent them all her records, so I ended up getting reimbursed. Thanks for nothing, SPH.

If you want availability when you least expect it, don't count on this office. Because life happens…read moreand this office does not have the compassion or time to accommodate you, even for being a long-term customer. Recently, my dog was not feeling well. Lethargic, not eating and not relieving herself. I called the office on Saturday 9/8/18, where the office hours started at 8am. Long story short they were unable to receive incoming calls (really?) and the answering machine prompted you to leave a message and that you will be contacted. Nope, not one call have I received since that date. We needed to bring my dog in to the vet ASAP, and we went to Vestal Animal Hospital (emergency services), there they were able to take an X-ray. We left there with antibiotics medication in hopes that my dog would get better. This wasn't the case; by Thursday we needed to get her seen again. We tried calling Southside Pet Hospital (her DR!) and they said they were double booked.... Sorry. We had been going here for 12 years with my dog and all we could get was that sorry response. We did not receive any apathy for our dog, nor a follow-up call to see how our dog was doing. Needless to say we were able to get in the Vestal Animal Hospital where they did blood work on our dog. The next step resulted in further testing of our dog due to the results and a ultrasound was recommended. We then traveled to Colonial Vet Hospital in Ithaca where they performed the ultrasound. Sad news is that my dog has cancer (lymphoma), most likely. Eventually my dog was seen by Dr. Ryer where he prescribed prednisolone and appetite increase pills. We called about a week later to let them know that she was still having issues defecating. They said try Cornell as they can't do anything for her! No calls after to see how she was doing. She has recently crossed over to the Rainbow Bridge where she is free from pain. Southside Pet Hospital's lack of compassion and unprofessional- ism about returning calls and caring for their patients is disappointing. Now that I look back on the yearly meetings with the DR, he never did recommend any certain tests for senior dogs (my dog is 12). I just feel like maybe if he was a little more pro-active my dog may not be in this position right now. I WOULD NOT recommend this DR or office for the care of your pet long term. You should never have to be turned away from your own DR's office! Update: As of today this office has not called to check on the health of my dog, knowing her prognosis. My Mocha passed away a little over 3 weeks
