Excellent animal hospital. Starting with Julie at reception to everyone you meet! Pre and post surgical support was wonderful. Highly recommend.

I travel from out of town to get my care for my dog here. It is well worth the trip. They know what they're doing, they care about your fur baby. This is a place where you can go and get a lot of specialists at the same place. As a healthcare provider it's really important for me to get the best possible care for my puppy. And this is the place.

Nefertiti

Colonial had been recommended as an emergency option years ago. We were so impressed with the compassionate care they provided one of our cats at the end of her life that when we adopted our latest pair we knew we wanted to use Colonial as our primary vets. We are so happy with that decision- especially after a recent emergency. Our Nefertiti was not acting right and even though it was 8 on a Friday night the staff never made me feel like I was overreacting. In fact they took our concerns seriously enough that they referred us to Cornell. Fortunately it ended up being treatable with a few days of inpatient care. I am sure it could have been much worse if we had put off seeking treatment. Not only did they listen, but Nef's usual vet called to check on us when she heard there had been an emergency. It made us feel like the staff really does care about their patients as more than just a revenue stream. We are so grateful to everyone at Colonial.

So much floof!

Took my kitty in for a check up and to have her tummy fur trimmed. Everyone was so great with my girl! I had a 3:15pm appointment and had to be done by 4pm. I let the front desk know and they were took care to make sure we were done on time. Mariah loves her vets and so do I. Thank you VCA :)

I rarely write poor reviews, but this time I feel it must be written. Lindsay was highly…read morerecommended to us by a neighbor and came to our home prior to Labor Day (LD) weekend to do a free meet and greet. She was delightful! She met our friendly dogs and agreed to watch them the following weekend after LD. She asked me to text my email address so she could bill me prior to coming. 5 days went by and I did not receive a bill in my email so I texted her figuring she had a busy LD weekend pet sitting and it slipped her mind. No response. Texted her later that evening - no response. Called the next morning and left a voice mail - no response. At this point, I had 1 day left before I had to leave for a 4 day trip and had to scramble to find another dog sitter. I never received a text/email/nor did she come to the house (I have Ring). I wish my experience was different, she seemed so pleasant.

Lindsay started with a meet and greet, took detailed info about our pets and their needs, vet info, contact info, etc. She arrived for every visit on time, spent quite a bit of time with our guys and sent pictures after each visit. Our guys were pretty calm when we returned after 4 days, which has not been the case with previous sitters. She is insured and has the experience to deal with emergencies which made us comfortable leaving our elderly cat in her care. Overall a positive experience. We will use her again.

We had given them copies of previous medical records in advance and asked them to call his previous care givers as he had Squamous Cell carcinoma on his ear tips in 2015 and they had been surgically removed. He had Pericardial Effusion I 2016 and that had been drained. We thought we were being careful due to his previous medical issues and requested the pre-anesthesia blood work. His dental was completed within 1.5 hours of us dropping him off and we thought that was a record. We moved here from Virginia and there a dental took about a half of a day. When we got there, we were informed that he was anemic and had no countable platelets. They indicated they wanted to keep him overnight for observation. We agreed. We picked him up Saturday June 3, 2017. We arrived around 2:30 PM and had to wait for a vet to get there. We were told that the anemia and low platelet count could be due to an infection or an auto immune disease. We were told to keep him quiet and restrict and activity. We took him back to the hotel where we were staying at the time, in Corning, NY. He ate normally that night and went to the bathroom. He laid on the bed and rested quietly all night. I took him out to the bathroom around 7:00 AM and he appeared to be OK. I went to get items for breakfast and while I was on the road back to the room, my wife called and said he could not stand and appeared to be deteriorating. We called the vet and were told to bring him to the office, a 50-minute trip. When we got there, he had a seizure. The Dr Shaw, who had done the dental, was there to release another animal and we spoke to her. At my wife's prompting she agreed to give him something to help with the seizures and informed us that they could do nothing else to stabilize him and that we should go to the animal hospital at Cornell University in Ithaca, NY. She indicated that there was a good possibility that he would die on the way. We left immediately and drove there. He was a full-blown seizure by the time we got there and they started working to stabilize him and prepare for a transfusion of platelets. There just was not enough time at this point and he died before they could start the transfusion. Blood platelets are stored frozen and must be thawed to be used. This process took longer than he had left. We subsequently found out that they had anesthetized him and started the dental procedure before the results of the blood test came back and they had not contacted the other vets as we asked, but they had not even looked at the records we dropped off over a week before. We also found out that they had contacted specialists post dental and knew that it was probably IMTP on Friday. We were only told about this at Cornell University on Sunday June 4, 2017. Had Wellsboro pet complex looked at his records and waited for the blood work to come back they would have known there was cause for alarm. They should have called us about the results, not done the dental, they should have told us about the suspected IMTP and sent us to Cornell on Friday June 2, 2017. When we called on Sunday June 4, 2017 they should have sent us to Cornell immediately rather than have us drive to their location and waste over two hours. Dr Shaw appeared uncaring to us and has never apologized or offered condolences. Dr Kreiger has refunded the cost of the dental procedure and helped with the bill from Cornell as well as apologized and sent his condolences. We think it would go a long way to prevent this type of tragedy if they would create a check list where they record every step of the normal process with a section where they would inform the owners of the patient of any abnormalities before starting a procedure. After all, the blood test is advertised as a pre-anesthesia blood test. This indicates that no only should the blood be drawn but the results should be evaluated before the anesthesia is started.
