This has been the top of the West Valley for a few months now so I finally went and checked it out. They definitely think you have to go at night where there is likely a better ambience as I was there for lunch and didn't get that vibe. The service however, was terrific. Our server was very attentive and continued to come back and check on us often. We had a nice bottle of wine at lunch and we both ordered the prime rib dip. It could've used more cheese or something as it was a little dry and all pretzel bun. The menu however looks very good so I definitely will be back to try other options but like I said, I think it looks much more appealing as a nighttime place. read more

I really wanted to love this newish restaurant. I liked it just fine. The restaurant has a young, hip vibe which is a refreshing in north Phoenix, the land of pub and diner food. Service was a clunky. Or sever was good but she was not supported well by her expeditors, delivering food to the table without a plate to split a salad, not appetizer plates, etc. I had to ask for everything. They need to improve the polish at this price point. Food, unfortunately, was OK. We split the prime ribeye and added a lobster tail, which turned out to be a lengthwise lobster split. Plate was a hot mess, with the lobster dropped on the plate right in the mashed potatoes, no plate for the shell and no crackers until I asked for them. Very messy to eat and not appealing to the eye. Steak was fattier than I would say is reasonable for a $75 prime steak. Garlic mashers were watery and under-seasoned. I will give it another try, but for the money, significant improvements have to happen. If they want to charge near fine dining prices, food quality and service need to catch up. read more

First-I appreciate that we have several joints open with an upscale atmosphere, service and ambiance that you'd normally have to drive 30-45 min to experience, coming from a "West-sider". Food was good: crab dip, sushi, black cod, drinks...however, let's talk about what restaurants refer to as "Truth in menu". This is referred to when a protein is weighed prior to cooking-usually reserved for high end cuts. I ordered the $74 al la carte "prime" 16 oz ribeye. For reference, if you go down the street to Frys and check out the case of ribeyes, those are close to 16 oz-thick, meaty, à la carte worthy steaks. The ribeye I got was 1/3 in-ish thick, sear was "mid" (Gen Z word for average), no seasoning, just the pinch of fleur de sel on the board. No way is was 16 oz prior to cooking. (16 oz=1 lb) When I confirmed medium rare, even the little cook it got from the line caused it to be not mid rare. The steak looked like what you'd use for a taqueria, quickly cooked just to dice it. I don't mind paying $74 for a steak, but please make sure it's "à la carte" worthy. Hard to justify this especially when there's a steakhouse across the street with similar prices, but the steaks there are so different as a "prime" cut. read more

Music is too loud!!!! Have been there twice...Once for happy hour and once for dinner. The decibel level between the music and increased volume of diners voices is almost intolerable. Food was good, not outstanding , and certainly not good enough to compensate for the atmosphere. It's a shame too. We need more great restaurants in our area. read more

My family and I had been eagerly waiting over two months for Sparrow to adjust. We decided to dine there tonight, hoping for a great experience. The drinks arrived at a decent pace, and the butter and bread appetizer was delicious. However, we were disappointed when we had to wait an unusually long 30+ minutes for our meals. We ordered two ribeye steaks, a smash burger, and fish and chips. While the food was generally great, the ribeye steaks were a major letdown. They arrived at below room temperature, far from the medium-rare doneness we had requested. The temperature was not an excuse, as the steaks were cooked medium plus. The manager did come to our table to take our meals away and address minimal concern. However, he rolled his eyes as he walked away. He did remove the steaks from the ticket, the manager never returned to apologize after the fact. We live very close to Sparrow, so we were disappointed that we would not be returning. While our waitress was excellent, the overall experience was disappointing. I would rate Sparrow 2 out of 5 stars. read more

Let's start off with the good. The decor is funky/eclectic/upscale if that's a thing. And the people watching... WOW Peoria! I didn't know you had it in ya! The pretentious were all out that night. The treat: Club clothes from the 90s came back out - on the same people who wore them back then. Take a minute for that visual... Now for the rest. Menu doesn't have too much to write home about and for the prices they are getting, portions and quality should be much better. Around 7:30 the music went from background to club noise level. Only four in my party and we couldn't even have a conversation with the two across the table it was so loud. Cue the random saxophonist, who strolled around like a cool kid playing god knows what that clashed with the DJs choice of tunes. Service was SLOW. We were enjoying a nice night out with friends but I did not want to be there for 2+ hours. At one point none of us even had any water on our table. Literally Nothing. To. Drink. Asked for a sample of wine which - no lie - took 30 minutes to arrive. Super disappointed. We were really hoping for a cool place really close to home. read more

Took 3 clients to dinner here and Sparrow didn't disappoint. We ordered a round of appetizers to start. Crab cakes, meatballs and the butter board. All of them were delicious and devoured quickly. For dinner I had the prime ribeye medium rare. It was cooked perfectly and was very tasty. Had the Brussels as a side also very delicious. Service was great! Went to this restaurant last night. Very nice decor, new and modern. The noise level inside the restaurant in deafening. It is so loud ( music and other patrons) that you have to yell at each other to have a conversation. The service was OK, certainly could have been more attentive and the food was good except for the evening special which was a paella dish. This dish was like rice, fish and brown gravy. Not very good, not a lot of flavor unfortunately. Overall, I would not recommend this restaurant unless you like very noisy, loud restaurants with average food and service. Sorry!! read more

This is one of my favorite places to go to in North Phoenix (Peoria). They have now been open about 5 months now and have everything dialed in from food preparation to service, and an awesome menu. This is not a chain restaurant... it is a one-of-a-kind location, scratch kitchen and menu. Bartenders and servers are amazing and friendly. The restaurant and bar are classy but not intimidating and prices are reasonable depending on your occasion for dining. Where else can you go and get the best wings, oysters, wagyu beef, fish fry, prime rib sandwich and a classy atmosphere with amazing bourbons and drinks and all with a huge horseshoe shaped bar and classy dining area as well. This is a place you bring friends and visiting family for a relaxed beer at lunch time while watching some sports at the bar (no yelling by the way... not that type of place) or want to class it up some for a nice dinner in the dining area. Great Experience at Sparrow -- North Peoria Keeps Leveling Up! We had a really nice evening at Sparrow. We sat on the patio in the comfy patio chairs just outside the bar. The patio is open to the little courtyard with the fountain--such a relaxing spot. Our waiter, Michael, was incredibly sweet and helpful the entire night. I had the Amor Rouge ($18). It was really good -- refreshing. My husband had the Ember Old Fashioned ($22). Also good. I ordered the prime rib dip (minus the pretzel roll. Very good. The horseradish aioli was delicious, but the fries were just the skinny frozen kind -- definitely not what you'd expect at $32. Fresh-cut fries would make a big difference. My husband had the fish fry. The Brussels coleslaw was amazing, just a tiny portion -- next time we'll definitely ask for a double! For dessert we had the banana rum cake. Yummy -- perfect finish. We're honestly just so excited to have restaurants like this popping up in our neighborhood. Between Sparrow and the other spots at The Trailhead and the 83 Marketplace restaurants, North Peoria has seriously leveled up. It's so nice to have elevated dining close to home. Tip: Highly recommend making a reservation if you're planning on dinner after 6 PM as they may not have any tables available. It's very busy after 7pm on the weekend. read more

As you walk in this place is pretty aka trendy.. there is a great bar area because we love to sit at the bar. Bartenders were extremely nice overwhelmingly helpful and the place had a good vibe. They played good music. The food was great. I love the bake oysters the burger, the lobster sandwich amazing. There's also a really cool outside area where you can sit if you don't wanna be inside and I think this is a great complement to this area ( Peoria) and will give people in this area a nice place to go to hang out and get good food, strong drinks, and great service.! read more

Very good service and we liked the atmosphere but was very noisy. Ordered a Caesar salad with dressing on the side because they put horseradish in the dressing and wanted to make sure it wasn't strong which it was. Salad had dressing on it and on the side. They brought a new order with an entirely different look and lettuce wasn't well cut up. Crab hand roll for $20 was about the size of my finger server on a big plate in middle of a three taco holder. Meatballs were decent but not our flavor. We were looking for healthy and low carb. Most things on the menu weren't to our liking with lots of bread or breaded options. Arugula on another salad option but not a fan of arugula. Probably good for some people but we won't be back. read more

The atmosphere was great, definitely a nice place to hang out. Unfortunately, the food didn't live up to the vibe. The meatballs were honestly terrible, and the steak was just average at best. The side of béarnaise sauce was ridiculously overpriced for how little you get, it came out in a portion about the size of a ketchup cup. On the positive side, the Brussels sprouts were fantastic. Perfectly cooked, full of flavor, and easily one of the best things on the table. The banana rum cake was also excellent and ended the meal on a high note. Its nice to see higher end restaurants coming to the west side! We went here for lunch. I had the lobster roll and my wife had the weekend at bernies salad. The salad is very similar to the chopped salad at The Gladly and Citizens Public House. It was very good, and our only recommendation here would be to shred the cheese instead of chopping it. The lobster roll was good, but it is expensive and there isnt much lobster. I will probably get something different next time we go. The ambiance is great. I could see myself parked at the bar for a few hours. The menu has a broad range of items and we will definitely be back. read more

We finally visited this place for dinner. Only reservation we could get was 4:45 about 3 days ago being that it's Valentine's Day weekend. The restaurant was half empty up until after 6, so that was odd. Shrimp cocktail was good. We both ordered drinks. My husband ordered from the special V Day Menu and the waitress took the order. She then came back 15 min later to inform him that menu was not valid. He had to make another selection. We waited 45 min for our meals because of this mistake. No I'm sorry. Nothing. Then my filet with potatoes came out and was cold. The waitress did quickly get me hot potatoes but again no apology. She didn't even ask us if we wanted dessert. Oddly enough, one young man that worked there just kept walking around the restaurant over and over and over again! He seemed to be flirting with one of the hostesses, but he was literally doing nothing! We are excited to have a nice restaurant on the West side. The decor was very nice. Fantastic atmosphere and thrilled to have this literally walking distance in our neighborhood! Great decor, dining room and patio. Drinks are creative and delicious. Prime Rib Dip is very good (not White Chocolate Grill/Houstons but better than all others!). $32 for a dip is about $4-$5 higher than should be. Fries are great. Wedge salad with ranch really good but no Blue Cheese crumbles(improvised and added little blue cheese dressing but don't like all blue cheese dressing). Service was stellar from moment walked in. Too full to have the banana rum cake...next time. Fish and Chips or Babyback Ribs next time. Prices are a little higher than should be but still between Bourbon and Bones and Stetson Social as bench marks. $65 and $78 for Ribeye and Filet about $10 higher than should be (that's Bourbon and Bones price category). Great neighborhood spot and will go back pretty regularly. read more

I have dined in twice now and gotten food to go several times, and the food and service have been incredible. The decor and ambiance are so beautiful and you can tell they spent a great amount of time picking out every detail. The service is incredible and I always feel taken care of. Some of my favorite items are: BLW (you have to try it!) smashburger, butter board, GOAT salad, wedge salad, meatballs, and all 3 desserts! I was anxious to try this restaurant after I saw they had the original chop salad which they call "Weekend at Bernie's". My biggest beef is that the salad comes with Salmon for $18. I asked to sub out the Salmon for a cheaper protein ( chicken) . When I got the bill I was shocked to see I was charged $5 to switch salmon to chicken. If it was the other way around and I was being charged for an upgrade to salmon I would understand but I downgraded to a cheaper protein and was charged. It tasted good but not as good as it does at The Gladly or CPH. The tomatoes at these other restaurants must be marinated and the currants are sweeter. I just know it's more of a " party in my mouth" at the other restaurants. There were no sweet "pops" in Sparrows salad. My husband got the lobster roll which was $32. It tasted good he said but needed more lobster meat. It looked like a piece of Texas toast stuffed with lobster meat. I might try a dinner there before I make a final call but as much I love a good chopped salad I probably won't order it there again. I wanted to try the rum cake but they were out of the ingredients so that was a bummer. It pretty inside I'm on the fence with this restaurant. read more

Outstanding New Restaurant and Incredible Experience! Sparrows American Eclectic is a fantastic addition to the Trailhead area in Peoria! From the moment we arrived, the service and atmosphere were exceptional. The staff truly knows how to take care of their guests--attentive, friendly, and focused on every detail. The food was absolutely incredible. We started with the Butter Board (a must-try!), then enjoyed the Fish and Chips, Wedgy Salad, and Salmon--every dish was beautifully presented and bursting with flavor. Our server Juliana went above and beyond to make our evening special, and Yvette, the manager, went out of her way to ensure our 28th anniversary celebration was memorable. It's honestly wild that I'm even writing this because I used to think highly of this place but after today, I was completely wrong. I brought friends here for their first visit after coming a few times myself. The food had been decent before, and I thought the service was too, but today was honestly embarrassing. My friend ordered her steak medium, and it came out well done, completely overcooked, like a brick. She sent it back, and by the time the replacement came out about 10 minutes later, the rest of us had already finished our meals. Then came the check. It initially looked like her steak had been removed, but it wasn't. We asked the waitress, and she told us it was taken off. Then the manager, Lola, came out and said it wasn't because my friend "ate the corrected steak," but offered 50% off instead. That was honestly one of the most confusing and off-putting things I've heard. It felt like we were being treated as if we were trying to get something for free, when in reality, we had already ordered and paid for three other steaks. To make things worse, another manager, Justin, came out with a short temper and argued with us over the 50% discount. There was no professionalism, no accountability, just defensiveness. After going back and forth, he finally said, "fine, we'll take it off," but then followed it up by telling my friend, "well, you got a free meal, so you should be happy." She responded perfectly, with she would have much rather had the experience than a "free" meal of a steak they messed up on. That alone says everything. At the end of the day, this just isn't a high-class establishment, which is disappointing given what they charge. Service like that completely ruins the experience, no matter how the food is. I really wanted this place to be something special for North Peoria, but after this, I won't be back. Back to Bourbon & Bones for me. read more

Really want to love this restaurant but unfortunately had a bad experience. Somehow the restaurant was out of both bread and Diet Coke, neither of which we were notified about prior to ordering. We started with the crab dip which fell flat, was quite watery, and felt like something that could have been served at a TGI Friday's or Chili's. For our main, we went with the seafood hotpot. For $92, we received a modest amount of seafood and overcooked noodles. There was supposed to be bread, but they ran out. We were still charged the full price for the meal, and there was no offer for a free drink or dessert to make up for the lack of a primary component of the meal. On ambiance, it was unbearably loud. We couldn't hear each other or the waiter. Unfortunately, I don't think I could recommend Sparrow, at least not until some kinks are ironed out. read more
