Trash WiFi. We have set up auto pay maybe 7-8 times on the phone with these people only to find out months later after our WiFi goes out that we are past due 100's of dollars and there is a reconnecting fee. this has been an absolutely horrible experience. I called to set up my internet in my apartment and paid everything up front. I was told the absolute soonest they could do is one week out. I explained that I have a diabetic child and I have to contact her medical care team to get her insulin rates adjusted and was told they couldn't do any sooner. so we waited. I had an appointment from 1-5 pm, so I called 8 hours in advance explaining I had to pick my kid up from school, so be closer to 5. I got an appointment text stating it was from 4:30-5:30 which was perfect. when I got home around 4:10 there was a hanger on my door stating they were there around 4:05. when I called the tech had reported in a different time then was on my hanger. the ladies at the call center were very nice and pleasant to deal with but the issue was on going. in the morning I went to the spark light office to get some resolution explaining the medical need for it, but EVERY manager was in a meeting and couldn't be bothered to help a customer. hours later I eventually received a call from a manager named Jeff. jeff told me the best he could do is push my date out even further and his only remedy was telling me it's the busy season. not one offer to help with a bill coverage, or some other form of compensation for the amount of absolute unnecessary inconvenience this company has caused. we would give negative stars if possible. read more

I wrote a review for Cable One three years ago and gave it 4 stars. In the meantime I moved down to Southern California for school and now I'm back. Here's why it's one star... If something in Los Angeles is WAY better for the same price or less, you can tell Sparklight is ripping people off. In California I was able to get 300 Mbps internet WITH NO CAP ON DATA USAGE for $65 a month. And that's after TWO YEARS on a $45 a month promotional rate. So for what I got for $65 in very expensive California would cost $125 a month here!! (Turbo 300 Plus plan - $80 + $40 for unlimited data). Why would there be such a different in price and product? Oh, could it be that in CA there are a few other cable internet companies that overlap so they actually have to compete while in Boise there is only one company that is able to give 100 Mbps+ internet speed? What a surprise that the lack of competition allows Sparklight to offer plans that are A COMPLETE RIP OFF when you compare them to plans in other parts of the country. Boise needs to wake up and start exploring municipal broadband or work to bring in another company (everyone should contact the mayor's office and the city council and encourage them to explore the options). IF there was actually a comparable company I have no doubt the data caps would be gone. Honestly, that's the scam. In many places there are no data caps and the price/speed is about the same if not cheaper/faster than here in Boise. Am I super super mad about Sparklight's price structure and data caps? You bet I am. Do my friends and family complain about the data cap every month when it becomes an issue? Yep. Do we plan on leaving Sparklight? No, because the only other option is CenturyLink and it only offers 40 Mbps at my address. And the thing is, Sparklight will *say* that counts as competition but they *know* that DSL internet and Cable internet are drastically different products and it would be similar to Delta saying that Greyhound Bus service is a competitor. Sure they can both get you to Seattle, but one will do it in an hour and the other will take 10 hours. The only plus side to this is if Idahoans can publicize the crappy Sparklight plans in Southern California, it will probably cause many of them to think twice about moving to Boise. Haha read more

A+ experience from beginning to end. Very pleasant (local) customer service support. Not some offshore robot reading from a script. Gabriel was our technician who set up the internet at our Eagle home. He was nice enough to also set up our Orbi, even though that wasn't part of his job. I had a terrible experience with Century Link--their customer service is bar none the worst ever! You think DMV is bad, CL is 10x worse. I am astounded how they're able to stay in business. I don't appreciate the inconvenience of having to change all my contacts because Sparklight decided to dump a service that I have paid for for over 12 years. They try to gaslight their customers saying, "Our Customers want a more robust e-mail service..." therefore we are just going to cancel the service that you have! I've been waiting a week to get a tech out to my residence to fix an issue on their end. They come out and knock on my door and I am unable to answer since I was on the crapper. They don't Call Me, Text or Email me asking why I'm not answering the door. They just go away and cancel the appointment. I call and talk to a manager at 4 and they aren't willing to do anything but get a tech back out till MONDAY. "I should have called sooner". Why would I call sooner if it's an all day appointment and I've not gotten a call from them? They gave me a $20 credit for a service that's been out for 7 days and they canceled the appointment. If you have any other option over these guys choose the other option. I don't so I'm stuck with the horrible customer service. Companies are great when things are working. I switched to Sparklight because my previous provider was not always available and I am so sorry I changed to Sparklight. I should be refunded half of my payment each month as that is all Sparklight is working. If I am doing an intense project, it usually drops in the middle of it and it will not reconnect. New to the area and had to pick up a cable box. I had heard mixed (well, mostly negative) things about Cable One but when I got there on a Friday afternoon 15 minutes from closing, there was only one person in front of me. The lady who helped me was very polite and patient with all my questions My questions caused her to stay past closing time and another customer came in since she hadn't had a chance to lock the door, and she graciously helped them, too. The new channel lineup is really confusing and instead of just scrolling through channels now you have to memorize all sorts of random numbers. It also requires another remote control, an ugly set-top box, and if you move components around you can lose the signal. I'm also paying the same amount for fewer channels, which is infuriating. Internet speed tests always show I'm running at about 10% of the speed I'm paying for. When I call to complain, sometimes they increase the speed for a day, and then it goes back to slow. So slow I not only can't stream video, I can't even load my email. It's absurd, and it's expensive. This service sucks. Avoid at all costs. read more

Not so bad really, much better choice than most of the ones in the current area.

Internet isn't the most reliable, but we don't have the data limitation issues that others have stated. My issue is more with the TV service, it's horrible. We have multiple TV's, which we were assured would work fine, but several times a week we get an error that too many TV's are in use and so we have to reset the entire system. When we're only watching one TV! This entire week at between 11:44 and 11:45 am, the TV signal is lost for several minutes. EVERY. DAY. THIS. WEEK. You call and get the typical insulting scripted answers: "Is everything plugged in?" "What did you change on your end?" "We've never heard that before" On the subject of TV: 1999 called and wants to know why on God's green Earth TIVO is still a thing, and why it's what Sparklight uses for DVR. As this is the only game in town we're stuck, and they know it, so they aren't interested in addressing or correcting the issues that they consistently receive complaints about. read more

Several edits at bottom: Its a long story so I won't bore you that involves over 20 calls and well over 8hrs on the phone with service calls. Business managed wifi at our clinic in Eagle. We are in the 6th router with them since last May. Nothing about this service is reliable. We've had many techs come out and tell me that yes, the Hytron units are garbage but they have no other options. Location of our unit is 'ideal' (it has it's own fan I installed under it to keep them cool and clean) but they can't keep our connection up and reliable. They have even told me that I could manage my own wifi WHILE we are paying for the managed wifi. This is a business class account. Edit 4/6/23 Interesting that SL responds after a bad review offering help. I'm a bit bitter as you can tell. Internet has gone down about 7am 4/05/23 and was just down again @ 7:23am 4/06/23. I'll email the address given. 4/06/23 Just down again for over 1hr. Another hour on the phone... Still no reply from the email I sent asking for a solution. (3 days later received email reply) 4/10 called @ 9:50am due to no wifi again, cabled devices connected with internet. Told the tech that I was on voip phone going over their network. He could see Hytron but not login and decided to reboot it. Immediately lost the call (forehead slap I'm sure). Called on my cell to a different tech. Said we need another !!!! firmware update because the current one has 'issues' with wifi. Scheduled to call in 4/14 while business is closed to do factory reset and firmware update while business is closed. 4/14 went into work to call in to get updates on Hytron. Ironically our wifi is down again. Tech said that their firmware tool is inoperable this morning. More IRONY!! UNREAL. You can't make this terrible service up. Techs on the phone are almost all super polite, I bet they're frustrated also. 4/17 business down again this morning at about 8am. Fantastic internet service. 4/18 I'm on a mission now to get them to fix this. Already replied to the reply by April for assistance. Wi-Fi dropped again this morning twice. Note: I did attempt to change to T-mobiles 5g routers but was unable to make it work at this location. I did get rid of SL at home and am using T-mobile's 5g router there and love it so far. Broadcasts strong throughout the house and can keep up with several devices streaming (just testing) at the same time. read more

I had Century Link and was disappointed with both their Internet (intermittent), but their response and customer service was WAY WORSE. I was told to try CableOne. Intermittent service, and terrible customer service. Not responsive. Wait on hold endlessly, then I schedule an appt. for a technician, and that person doesn't show up. They said that their technician called, but no call received, and no missed call on my phone. There is no lesser of two evils. Both are sad. I wish there was another option. WARNING! Cable one is a nightmare! Don't do it!!! I made an appointment for 3pm and was told I would receive a call before the installer came over. They also told me if the phone call could come across as unknown or blocked, so I should answer. I had not heard anything by 2:30 and so I called them. I was told that they called and could not reach me, so they cancelled the appointment. I was then told that they would try and get a technician out but never heard from them again. I kept my phone with me for the entire day as I waited for the call, but it did not ring. I have used Cable one for quite some time and they are like most Cable/Phone/Internet companies, which is not very good, but they typically have good customer service. So far I've had Sparklight for one month. My plan is around $70 for 600mb/s, which is by far the most I've ever paid for internet. This has been the worst internet provider/internet service I've ever had. I work from home and have weekly outages that last for over an hour at a time. I also play videogames on a console and frequently drop out of games because the internet intermittently dips so low, even with a lan cable, that it boots me. I'm stuck with them because they're the only provider in my area. If you have other options, please seriously consider those. read more

300 GB data plan for $55 a month. I received multiple notifications of my going over the 300 GB plan. All 3 months were roughly 320 GB. I was told on this recent one that I would be automatically upgraded to a plan that was $25 more that would give me 600 GB for $80/month. This is an issue with Cable One not having any true competition, you are almost forced to go through them or deal with an even worse Century Link. Data Caps in 2017? Especially 300 GB or 600 GB ? Ridiculous. You can easily go over 300 with doing Netflix and downloading 1 or two games and watching some youtube videos. I understand that they don't want people continuously hogging bandwidth with constant downloads but these caps need some adjustment in the up direction. The only good part thus far has been my good experience with customer service. Though management likely has a poor turnover in their call center due to employees dealing with people who are rightfully upset with the service. Get with the times Cable One. read more

Cableone set-top boxes have got to be the worst. They constantly have audio issue that you have to fix by turning the box off and on. I have asked cableone multiple times about this. At first they said they'd never heard of such an issue. Finally they have started admitting to the problem, but the advice is to upgrade to their rental TiVo. Also, the boxes often lose their authentication and fail to work. Then you have to call in and have them send a signal to re-authenticate. That often fails and you have to wait a few days for a technician to come and fix. Before these new "smart" boxes, I would have rated cableone 4 stars as I've been happy with them for years. New high speed modem works ok, range sucks, nothing like my Apple Time Capsule, I was able to go outside with a WiFi connection, able to pair my printer but not with the supplied modem/router unit given to me. Support doesn't know how to resolve other than what I've already tried even beyond what most customers can do, such as configuring through the modems IP address. I have the option of having my router turned off and going back to using my TC, but why should I. My next option is to give their unit back and investing in a modem only unit at $150-200$ which in the long run is cheaper instead of renting something they can't support!! I had Sparklight install cable and internet services at my new house that was just finished in January. Last week I tried my A/C out and it was not working. After the first service call from the hvac company they recommended I contact the electrician since it was a wiring issue with the house. The electrician found that Sparklight drilled thru the middle of the 220 volt wire in the wall for their cable in the garage. I have had to hire numerous service companies to repair the damage such as hvac, electrician and drywall company to repair the damage where the wall had to be cut open.
