So far, Sparklight has been a bummer. Their technicians won't enter a house to set up a phone line, television, or internet. It didn't even matter that the house had been unoccupied and never lived in. But yet, they still charge us for the little modem they plugged in the garage. So we barely have phones or working internet. Needless to say, during a time when internet and phones are needed more than they have been in years past... Sparklight is showing how much they "care." Found out they had been charging me $100/month more than a friend down the street in Meridian for the same service. Not even as an introductory rate. Cheaper plans (for me and Boise neighborhoods) resemble what most of the country was getting for that price 10 years ago, but with data caps 3x as aggressive. When calling to downgrade service until I can switch to another provider, I was told I'd be receiving a $57 credit for my $175 plan that was billed yesterday. Confused, I requested that I be sent short summary of the accounting. The "loyalty specialist" rep and the supervisor I spoke to denied this request. He was willing to take a few minutes to try to explain their billing practices in general, but somehow the same time to break down the charges on paper was asking too much. This rep also said negative things about their competitor's services. Oh well. Real competition in the form of 5G is months, not years away. Concerning April's response- It took 3 Sparklight employees to acknowledge that an accounting summary was within the scope of basic reasonable service, and maybe it's true that 4th might actually deliver. Sparklight (CableOne) is by far the worst internet I've ever had. I've spent years hating CenturyLink, so that's saying a lot. I'm a single user, mainly streaming Netflix or music. Generally takes at least an hour to get through a 20 episode and my music cuts out about every other song. People warned me about their service but I thought nothing could be worse than CenturyLink. Consumer Beware, protect your home. Cable One installed cable at my friend's, an older lady on disability social security, drilled the hole outside her residence right under the water hose and water leaked in that hole from the hose and rain. It destroyed her cabinet, ruined the carpet and damaged the floor. I personally found the leak, called Cable One, they went and looked at it and claimed no responsibility for the damages caused by their employee and turned their back on her. Switched from CenturyLink to Sparklight about 2 years ago. At first, fantastic, always very fast download speeds and no connection issues. Now, for the past 4 months speeds are unreliable and I completely lose connection at least once a day, sometimfor overg 10 minutes. I would ditch Sparklight, but the alternative in Boise is equally bad, I am looking at you CenturyLink. Because they both know there is no completion, they really have no interest on improving the quality of their service. Stay away from both of them if you can, get an unlimited data plan on your phone and have no residential internet service. That seems to be the way to go in Boise. read more

They jacked up my price but never said they were going to, I called and they said it's cause my contract was up and offered me a new 1 year contract to keep a low price. I agreed. A year later I tried to cancel and they said it was a 3 year contract and I would have to pay every months that I didn't keep them. Cableone is price gauging their customers on data cap limits in many parts of the country where they provide service. Cableone provides unlimited free data caps in three areas in ND, TX and KS. HOWEVER, everywhere else they charge $40 a month for unlimited data caps, which is outrageous! While data speed (mbps) does tax Cableone's system, data cap limits do not, which makes the charges even more ridiculous. There can only be two reasons they don't charge for unlimited data caps in those areas described above: competition from other providers or the state legislatures have prevented them from charging the cap fees. Either way, for everyone else, it's just price gauging - pure and simple. Shame on Cableone or Sparklight or whatever you call yourself. Your might be changing your name but you still care about one thing and one thing only - profits! read more

Cable One has effectively zero competition as an ISP in Boise, and it shows. In the three years I've had their service, my internet randomly cuts out about once a week (resetting the router normally fixes it), and the download speeds are maybe half of the advertised value, as tested by several broadband speed test sites. The worst part of Cable One is their laughably outdated bandwidth caps. Their basic plan caps you at 300GB, and if you exceed that three times, they'll either terminate your service or force you into a more expensive plan. As a comparison, Comcast has a standard 1TB cap (which would be $175/mo from Cable One), with overage charges that are actually cheaper than the forced upgrade from Cable One, so Cable One manages to actually be worse than a company that's consistently rated as one of the worst in America. read more

I'd like to imagine that the VAST amount of 1 star reviews should give a clear picture here, but perhaps not. Since the start of Covid-19 outbreak, I've worked from home. I hardly ever had any issues in Kuna, ID, with outages being very rare, and usually happening in the very early AM. Since then, I've recently moved locations, and ever since doing so, the quality and reliance of service has been laughably poor. I'm constantly running into dropped calls using my VOIP service, only to find out that I went from a solid 200 mbps to a whopping 2 mbps or no service at all. The worst part is that this isn't an hour long, every once in a while outage, its a few seconds long, and happens several times through out each day. Just when I think I'm good to reconnect, it goes down again for another few seconds dropping another call with another client. Pinging Googles 8.8.8.8 IP indefinitely has also shown that this issue occurs atleast once every 30 minutes, when the response time extends out from the usual 20ms to over 1000ms which some packet loss, resulting in being kicked from video game servers with high ping guards. At this point, I'm considering comcast, which I absolutely despise. All in all, I have yet to actually get my own modem/router, and am using their rental equipment, which probably explains a LOT. Regardless, if the equipment is to blame, then its time they upgrade what they lend out. read more

Nothing is worse then calling a company to give them your money to sign up for a service and the customer service rep speaks to you like your a degenerate when you ask for the type of modem they provide with the lease, saying "I don't think we are communicating on the same level". Cableone's policy on forcing you to the next highest tier if you go over the cap 3 times is highway robbery. This happened over a 2 year period. There's no resetting of the limit from a time period perspective, they just push you into a much more expensive tier and only give you 100GB more? That's lame. With the forced upgrades of 30-75GB per upgrade on XBox One games, Cableone needs to get into the 21st century with their pricing and data caps. I would prefer to be fined for going over, but don't force me to subscribe to the next higher tier. After having sparklight for almost 2 years I moved out of state and now they won't shut the service off without the modem, a modem that cost $150 that I have been renting for almost 2 years at $10 a month making my grand total cost on that modem already close to $240. Thats not the biggest problem, I have to mail it back at my expense or travel to return it! They never called. Round four called again for service to be connected, got appointment, actually got text confirmation that they were coming and then they went to the wrong address, why? they had my address on file. The installer was very profesional , quick, great communication from the company about his work and arival time. The service is basic- we just use the internet- it works more than adequate- some cut offs for a short time? Because we really dont use it except for e-mail or news , etc - I feel the service is very over priced. We also leave for 3 or 4 months at a time and will have the service turned off every time when gone. Would prefer an inexpensive service (will make it to $55 in 3 months) that is reasonable priced - I pay for the service and since I work - or try to in Boise- I get paid minimum wage- with all of the other expenses I have- I will have to have the service periodically turned off so I can afford it! When it comes to television, internet and home phone service, Cable One shoots themselves in the foot! I feel that they could be a much better company if they lowered their plans, removed data caps, and provided the service that they say they are. They real you in with a super small monthly plan, but hike it up three months later. The DO NOT have unlimited data. I do a lot of conference calls for work, I have kids that stream data... and 300gb isn't enough. So, if you're a NETFLIX junkie expect notices from them. They charged me $199 a month due to the amount of data that I use-- I went to Century Link (slightly slower speed) which suits my needs and I pay $30.00 a month. $30.00 vs $199.00 (have bills not prove this!) is a huge difference. Why would an internet company in today's day and age have data cap? Wouldn't you want to keep the customers they have? I had two accounts. One at my house and one at my ex wifes house (for my kids) and this issue was at both locations. I disconnected both accounts at two different times, and I was never saved or asked why I was leaving. Customer service won't disconnect you-- you have to go into your local office. Another thing that turned me off from them was that two days after I got my service I didn't have any service. I spent hours on the phone for them to tell me to take my box to the local office. I live in Meridian-- I go to the Boise location (not that far from my house) and they tell me that Meridian is part of Nampa. They can take payment and disconnect service, but they can't give out their equipment-- um, ok-- off to Nampa I go. Nampa tells me that isn't the policy, there is an office war going on and Boise doesn't order enough equipment and always have to borrow from us. We have had Sparklight for the past 10 years (it was new wave, and suddenlink prior to sparklight) We built a new home in 2020, all new lines, it ran perfect for about 9 months. Then in the next town over, a fiber line was cut and the problems began. Our internet was crap for 3 months. Several drops per day, ranging from 1 to 5 minutes. Once in a while 30 min-1hr. Had techs out 6-8 times just for them to tell me what I already knew, it wasn't my house, wasn't my equipment! Eventually they fixed the problem and things were good for about the past 5 months. Fast forward to last week. Internet drops began again, same crap as last year, and guess what the agent said she was gonna do? Send a tech out, just to tell me the problem isn't at my house. So frustrating! Own up to your bs junk equipment, and fix this Sparklight!!! If we had another option for internet we would have jumped ship a long time ago! Oh and we pay for gigabit internet and never get more than 700 meg. $125 per month. Sparklight, you have a lot of work to do if you ever want to gain my trust back! read more

Horrible customer service, scammy, won't listen unless you hound them. I activated my service Nov 2022 and paid $120 to do so. To pay your bill, they send you a statement and a google browser popup redirecting you to their payment portal. Second month (December) comes and they prompt me to pay $2 (later found out this was a charge for them activating my service one day earlier than their pay period cycle, not sure why they really needed $2 but whatever). At the time though this wasn't explained to me, I assumed the $120 must've credited towards the next month and that's why it was only $2. I get no statements til the next cycle comes in January. Then I am prompted to pay $70. Thought this was weird because it's $8 more than it's supposed to but whatever. February comes, and my statement is $150??? The lady on the phone was immediately passive aggressive and catty telling me I missed a payment but refuses to explain which payment I missed. Refused to connect me to a supervisor, so I went to their chat service, and dealt with another rude and unhelpful agent who said "I've been doing this a long time I know what I'm talking about". So I submitted a BBB complaint, which finally sparked the local office in my area to contact me. I am grateful the woman I spoke to was finally kind and helpful in explaining what happened, and she admitted it was the fault of their system and not mine, which is all I wanted to hear instead of being gaslighted into believing I did something wrong. She reversed the multiple late fees they stacked against me and told me that an error must've occurred for my December statement (which it did, cause I never received one and never got a notice or email telling me I was late and owed them). Although I am happy we came to a resolution, and I have now paid off all previous balances, I am still very unhappy with how I was treated and the fact that I had to raise hell and involve the BBB in order for someone to listen to me and fix their problem. Maybe I am paranoid but since this happened, my wifi has suddenly become inconsistent and sucky. I wonder if they are throttling my connection, but I have no proof of this yet, it's just a suspicion. Maybe it's a coincidence but I find it very odd as I had perfect wifi speeds before all of this. I am looking into switching to CenturyLink or Verizon cube because frankly I would be willing to pay more somewhere else just for better customer service and more reliable internet, and to avoid any system errors in the future. Their website is extremely glitchy, portal sucks, couldn't set up an account because they entered the wrong phone number for me, and horribly made, they need better web developers and technical teams. Even the lady on the phone was struggling to set up an account for me bc of the website issues. All around a very unprofessional company, it sucks they've monopolized a lot of rural areas like mine. Considering how expensive their plans are (PLUS it's a tiered system with data caps, it's not unlimited), I would expect more quality out of them. The customer service reps need better training and more professionalism. I am not a Karen by any means, I am always a respectful pushover because I'm young and understand customer service is hard, but never in my life have I been spoken to so rudely right off the bat to the point where I had to cop an attitude back at both customer service reps. They pushed me to a point where I was so infuriated and shocked at the way they spoke to me all because they couldn't admit "hey, our system is not well developed and sometimes errors happen, let's work this out and come to a resolution". Instead they completely gaslighted me and tried to force me into paying fees I did not owe them. Absolutely unreliable. Just spent a ton of money on new equipment that they say is the optimum device for their service. Even upgraded our service speeds as well. Worse than before. Nothing but constant interruptions and poor performance. Their website service outage is most likely not accurate. We check constantly to see if area is down and ironically not showing outages but if you read the comments during you can see multiple people with the same complaint or issues. The site creates potential for misleading people to think no issues. Unless they can provide a consistent service they should be held accountable for poor quality service. read more

I ordered phone service to be added to our account. The tech came three times and blamed the billing department. They were trying to port a number I had and were unable to do so. I have now been on the phone for over 2 hours today. I have been transferred five time, disconnected once and am at my wits end. Each time I get transferred I have to tell the story over again. No one seems to know what is going on. This has been going on for over 3 weeks. Be aware of significant customer service and process issues with Sparklight. They don't care about customers. They do care about squashing comments and opinions. I also dispise the low data caps, having to vigorously monitor my usage or be forced to upgrade to the next more expensive, but, not more helpful tier. I currently have 300GB, the next tier is only 400GB for almost twice the price. You don't even get twice the data! Hey Cable One, if you penalize us for going over the cap, how about a refund if we don't go over (don't use allocated data)? Or how about rolling our unused data into the next month until we reach a 1000GB limit, so we can use large amounts of data (streaming or gaming ) during the times your TV programming sucks? Cableone will never raise our get rid of data caps, it's there business model to make more money and to stop cord cutters (can't stream if you don't have the data). We were initially pleased with the speed of CableOne's service when compared to CenturyLink. However, last night while watching a movie, Netflix spent about half of the time in low resolution, and even stopped playing altogether a few times. This is with their 50 mbps service. They did offer us a $60 credit after I complained on their facebook page regarding the unnecessary trimming of our magnolia (see previous review). So we were pleased with that. However, as mentioned, slow internet. To the best of my knowledge, there simply isn't a passable internet service provider in Boise. read more
