They don't care about customers. They do care about squashing comments and opinions. I also dispise the low data caps, having to vigorously monitor my usage or be forced to upgrade to the next more expensive, but, not more helpful tier. I currently have 300GB, the next tier is only 400GB for almost twice the price. You don't even get twice the data! Hey Cable One, if you penalize us for going over the cap, how about a refund if we don't go over (don't use allocated data)? We were initially pleased with the speed of CableOne's service when compared to CenturyLink. However, last night while watching a movie, Netflix spent about half of the time in low resolution, and even stopped playing altogether a few times. This is with their 50 mbps service. They did offer us a $60 credit after I complained on their facebook page regarding the unnecessary trimming of our magnolia (see previous review). So we were pleased with that. I WAS satisfied with Cable One until today. I have been a customer for a few years now and decided to finally get a DVR installed with my cable service. I took time off work since their hours are only 8-5 and the tech showed up in a timely manner and showed me how to work the DVR and I thought everything was great. I go to work and 8 hours later I come back to a menu screen of "to be announced" after 45 minutes on the phone with another tech the unit was deemed defective. This is NOT my complaint, as I understand it happens. My complaint is after taking time off work to get this set up that and I'm paying $10 a month more it was defective on the day it was installed. In order to get it replaced I either have to take more time off work to wait for a tech to come, or drive up to Cable One and swap the box out myself. Both of those options are taking time out of my day when I all ready took time out of my day for it to be installed. The original modem that I received from them went out as well, and I drove up to get the replacement myself. This is two defective units that I pay for to have time taken out of my day when it fails. Why am I paying $130 a month? I'm questioning it myself. Seems if they extensed their tech service hours they would have much happier customers. They double and triple book. If you miss the call them you have to wait a couple of weeks before they even have you scheduled again. I missed my call and called back maybe 2 minutes later and they told me my appointment was canceled because of that. Besides that I pay for 50 mb a second and get as fast as 13 maybe a little more on a good day. Let's say I get the 100Mb/s plan with 300GB of data. 100Mbs divided by 8 =12.5MB/s 12.5MB/s multiplied by 60seconds = 750MB/minute 750MB/minute multiplied by 60min = 45000MB/hour 45000MB divided by 1000 = 45GB 300GB divided by 45GB = 6.66hrs With their lowest plan you can feasibly burn through all your data within 6.66hrs. Do the math with the 150Mbs plan and 400GB of data and you will burn through it even quicker. Drop the 'Data Guidelines' or increase it significantly and I'll increase my stars. The actual data speeds are decent for the area (Boise) and are probably the best. read more

Denizens of Treasure Valley, I know it is fashionable to "beat up" on cable providers, and I know we all have "that story" when we got shafted by a tech guy who never showed up... or a phone service rep who gave you the run around. But it's precisely because of this that I felt obligated to write this short review. I have been a customer with Cable One since moving to the Treasure Valley almost two years ago. In all that time, I have always gotten courteous service from their phone reps, and their techs have never missed a service appointment. Yes I've had sporadic downtimes with my Internet service, but welcome to the club. If there was a service out there that could guarantee perfect 24/7 uptime, everyone else would be out of business. So let's just be realistic. Bottom line, I'm not going to call Cable One five star perfection, but my experience with them has been more than satisfactory. And in light of all the negative attention cable companies get overall, I felt they deserved a "well done" from a customer that they have treated right. read more

I ordered phone service to be added to our account. The tech came three times and blamed the billing department. They were trying to port a number I had and were unable to do so. I have now been on the phone for over 2 hours today. I have been transferred five time, disconnected once and am at my wits end. Each time I get transferred I have to tell the story over again. No one seems to know what is going on. This has been going on for over 3 weeks. Be aware of significant customer service and process issues with Sparklight. Horrible customer service, scammy, won't listen unless you hound them. I activated my service Nov 2022 and paid $120 to do so. To pay your bill, they send you a statement and a google browser popup redirecting you to their payment portal. Second month (December) comes and they prompt me to pay $2 (later found out this was a charge for them activating my service one day earlier than their pay period cycle, not sure why they really needed $2 but whatever). At the time though this wasn't explained to me, I assumed the $120 must've credited towards the next month and that's why it was only $2. I get no statements til the next cycle comes in January. Then I am prompted to pay $70. Thought this was weird because it's $8 more than it's supposed to but whatever. February comes, and my statement is $150??? The lady on the phone was immediately passive aggressive and catty telling me I missed a payment but refuses to explain which payment I missed. Refused to connect me to a supervisor, so I went to their chat service, and dealt with another rude and unhelpful agent who said "I've been doing this a long time I know what I'm talking about". So I submitted a BBB complaint, which finally sparked the local office in my area to contact me. I am grateful the woman I spoke to was finally kind and helpful in explaining what happened, and she admitted it was the fault of their system and not mine, which is all I wanted to hear instead of being gaslighted into believing I did something wrong. She reversed the multiple late fees they stacked against me and told me that an error must've occurred for my December statement (which it did, cause I never received one and never got a notice or email telling me I was late and owed them). Although I am happy we came to a resolution, and I have now paid off all previous balances, I am still very unhappy with how I was treated and the fact that I had to raise hell and involve the BBB in order for someone to listen to me and fix their problem. Maybe I am paranoid but since this happened, my wifi has suddenly become inconsistent and sucky. I wonder if they are throttling my connection, but I have no proof of this yet, it's just a suspicion. Maybe it's a coincidence but I find it very odd as I had perfect wifi speeds before all of this. I am looking into switching to CenturyLink or Verizon cube because frankly I would be willing to pay more somewhere else just for better customer service and more reliable internet, and to avoid any system errors in the future. Their website is extremely glitchy, portal sucks, couldn't set up an account because they entered the wrong phone number for me, and horribly made, they need better web developers and technical teams. Even the lady on the phone was struggling to set up an account for me bc of the website issues. All around a very unprofessional company, it sucks they've monopolized a lot of rural areas like mine. Considering how expensive their plans are (PLUS it's a tiered system with data caps, it's not unlimited), I would expect more quality out of them. The customer service reps need better training and more professionalism. I am not a Karen by any means, I am always a respectful pushover because I'm young and understand customer service is hard, but never in my life have I been spoken to so rudely right off the bat to the point where I had to cop an attitude back at both customer service reps. They pushed me to a point where I was so infuriated and shocked at the way they spoke to me all because they couldn't admit "hey, our system is not well developed and sometimes errors happen, let's work this out and come to a resolution". Instead they completely gaslighted me and tried to force me into paying fees I did not owe them. Take this as a warning, I would bring your business elsewhere because if you have trouble with them they will be condescending and ignore you until you give in and do what they want, plus they will not deactivate your service upon request. read more

I was already upset that they took away channels, raised prices, and false advertise internet speeds but they were just getting warmed up. I just installed the new "All Digital Device." The new "guide" shit, if you wanna call it a guide. I haven't figured out how to check program times beyond an hour in advance I pay for HD but those channels were nowhere to be found when I switched boxes, although I do enjoy a throwback to my childhood watching grainy sports footage. Cable One is living in 1999. They lie about their service, their speeds are slower than their competition, they are far more expensive than their competition, and they constantly up charge and force you into more expensive plans than what you sign up for because they have data caps which are completely unrealistic for a normal family. In three months I've seen my bill go up 30 dollars a month simply because I use the internet I bought. So, I switched to century link which has literally 3x the speed for the same cost, and no data caps, prices for life. It was a no brainer to switch. Cable One's pricing policies make it difficult to stay with them. Anyone who is using this company is getting ripped off, badly. There are alternatives which will save you money every month, give you better speed, no data caps, and you won't have to read their ridiculous emails telling you to "be mindful of your data usage!" Of all the things that made me switch, it was the morality police email from Cable One telling me, I'm using too much internet. Cable One is the worst internet service provider I have used in a long time, and that's really saying something because this is not a beloved industry. But, that's alright because I am not a Cable One customer anymore, and you don't have to be either! Thank Goodness for competition. read more

Have been with Cable One for 3+ years. For the most part it has been excellent service. Aside from an issue outside where if it rained our service would be interrupted. The multiple techs who came out to look at it never really fixed the issue. We got behind on our bill last month enough so, that they disconnected our service. I eventually paid what we owed and called to have our service reconnected, which costs nearly $200 including the fee plus paying the bill a month in advance. I did some research and found that Century Link now, unlike in the past offer comparable speeds to Cable One with a much higher data cap at a better price. So we decided to upgrade to a better service rather than pay to keep Cable One. If it wasn't for the high reconnect fees we would've probably stayed with Cable One, but instead they lost a long time customer. read more

This is the worst internet service provider I've ever had. I had better internet service in 2005 than I get now. I pay for 100mbps and even when I use the Ethernet cable, the best I get is 35mbps. Yeah, here we go again. So I had had Cable one internet a few years ago but with all their constant overages and extra charges, we opted to go to CenturyLink which had unlimited and no caps. But due to we moved, and now working from home and the child doing school at home CenturyLink wasn't able to give us the speeds we needed. So went back to sparklight and for nine months our bill has been nice and even and one payment and I even upped a tier to the gaming one since my child is home now ensure we'd have enough data all the time and the child playing his games. Plus he does school work on his computer. The speeds are fine and able to adapt to what we needed. and we've been doing the same thing for 9 months now, and all of a sudden this past month they kept sending us notices about how we've gone over and gone over and gone over again and again and again. So I get my bill and it's almost freaking doubled. I am pissed. Pissed. In the middle of a pandemic and I having to work at home and my child having to do school work at home they're going to price gouge us??? Talk about a bunch of greedy bum holes. Canceled service and went to century link and have had great speed and service for $5 a month less... doesn't end there. I just had Sparklight (formerly Cable One), internet services installed at my home yesterday, and I am already so impressed, but as most business transactions go, it always comes down to the representative you have right in front of you. Daniel of the Boise area showed up exactly at 8, gave me a kind greeting and set straight to work (with a smile!). He regretted to inform me that in order to get me internet access it was going to take a lot of work, some fingers crossed, and he wasn't sure if he could pull off the job. He could have just told me it wouldn't work. Instead he called his supervisor Quinn to come across town to see if he could help with the install. In the meantime, Daniel didn't just stand around waiting, he went back outside and got to work with what he could do solo. Quinn came out gave him a hand and left shortly with Daniel to wrap things up, and here I am writing an online review to say thank you to Daniel and to Quinn for helping. To add just a little side note, I am a very small woman, I live by myself, and having men I don't know in my house has always been touch and go, but I felt very comfortable, and that in itself means a great deal to me. Since then (less than two weeks ago), I have had multiple temporary outtages and slower internet service at times. Cableone email service blocks some of my incoming email as spam. The same message comes to me via Gmail just fine. Their filter creates many false positives, and tech support cannot explain to me what part of the blocked message offends the spam filter. Messages sent to me from MailChimp (using an authenticated domain as sender) are also not received, and CableOne doesn't send a bounce notice - this is not playing by the rules - so we have no way to fix the problem. The result is that I have no confidence that I am receiving the emails I want. Trying to resolve this with tech support has been painful and unsuccessful. The only solution is to avoid cableone email. Gmail works! read more

Man, I miss growing up with Frontier(formerly Verizon) internet. No data plans and only $40. This is my first experience with only having one provider to chose from and data plans. I'm paying $68 a month for only 300gb. I'm still a young person and I use Roku and youtube. I don't watch "cable." You can't even stream a series on Roku without eating up all your data in one month. If you want more data it's close to $100 for 900 gb. That is insane. I tried to stream a series on Roku this month and the data police let me know I'm at 75% of my data with 12 days to go. Guess who will be getting $10 tacked onto their bill, like it's not already expensive enough. This area is developing and I hope it brings in another provider. read more

Very Bad customer service or it is just because that one customer representative was so rude. I was calling to pay an overdue payment. I was saying that i didnt get the bill in the mail and completely forgot about it. She said: " okay, so you use the internet everyday and forget to pay for it. Then she said: so you've never paid for it ever since you got the service right?" That is so rude. She hadnot look at my account, but already made an assumption about me and tried mocking on me." I have been with Cableone since I was 18. I have always been more than satisfied with their service until the past few years. I don't know what has happened with this company but the customer service is awful and the internet service is even worse. Their commercial boasts your satisfaction is guaranteed with the impeccable "whole home wi-fi" yet every time I've called because my wi-fi doesn't work I'm told that they provide internet and wi-fi isn't guaranteed. WORST customer service ever....right from day one. Had to take the afternoon off work so the technician could show up sometime between 1-5...he showed up at about 4:50 and didn't end up leaving until around 6:00. He showed up looking very unprofessional without any sort of uniform on or anything. I realize he does sometimes dirty work but his hands were filthy which he didn't mind getting on my walls and even my duvet cover in the bedroom...yay! The technicial didn't leave me with any information such as the typical instructions or new customer information packet on how to operate the modem, remotes, etc. not even a listing of the channel lineup. I asked him about all of that and he was "oh, I'm out of those" he setup my online account user name and password, security question...allegedly. He told me the wrong username and spelled my street name incorrectly for the security question so I couldn't login. Which leads me to my next, not so awesome, interaction with Cableone. I had to call customer service to get my username information and I had the pleasure of being on hold for 20 minutes and then the "customer service" respresentitve was snotty and kept cutting me off.... read more
