Spanky's is a charming little diner with fabulous service, cute decor and the best eggs Benedict EVER. Highly recommend.

This place was fantastic. We got there nice and early on Father's day and beat the rush. The French toast was fantastic so was everything else. Our 3 year old cleaned his plate and that never happens. This is an awesome place and we can't waitto go back. read more

I've gone to Spanky's on the weekend for many years. Prior to new ownership it ran very well. Since being taken over it is not, it is not unusual to wait up to 1 1/2 hours from the time you walk in through the door till you leave. I have seen numerous people leave due to the new cook. I also witnessed on several occasions the new owners disciplining there employees during open hours within earshot of the patrons. read more

Great breakfast and lunch joint. Tiny tables and pleasantly noisy. Friendly staff and good service. I kinda wish our server had called me 'Dear' in the best eastern diner tradition, but you can't have everything. I had homemade hash and eggs, and toast, all was delicious. My wife had a house variation of Eggs Benedict and liked it. Food is good, so is the service, atmosphere is fun and homey with Little Rascals prints and stuff on the walls. wow wow wowser! My husband and I work hard all week and decided to treat ourselves out for breakfast Saturday morning. When we arrived ( we live in the area). ) the owner barely looked up to greet us? never said hello or.. we will be you in a minute.... nothing??? We waited and waited and she finally cleared the table ( we finally sitted ourselves) before table was cleared. She continued to walk around tables and took a few orders even brought water to others while we just sat there? no silverwear, no coffee? I was ready to pack it up and go elsewhere when she came over and asked what we wanted to drink. 10 mintues later she brought coffee (still no silverwear)? my husband got up and went to the counter to get silverwear and she rudely told him she would be there in a minute!! I noticed how curt and rude she was to others and quite arrogant as well (hey lady you own the restaurant and don't seem to like people)????? I will never set foot in that place again. I forgot about the last time we went there and noticed the same type of attitude from her ( I thought maybe she was just having a bad morning last time) but it's just her I guess "too bad" I don't need to feel like I'm in trouble or on detention . I used to come here 20 years ago and had to bring my family here when we were camping down the road. Met the new owner who worked here 10 years and then bought he place a couple years ago. Best chicken fried steak ever! My husband used to eat here alot when he lived in Scott's Valley. He brought me to Spanky's back in 2001 when I experienced this incredibly seasoned piece of heaven for the first time. It took up my entire plate (seriously, they had to bring the eggs and potatoes on a second plate). It was seasoned so perfectly and was so tender. Since then I have never had better chicken fried steak. We went back this past weekend and had it again. Same flavor but smaller portion. They said it all depends on the cut of the steak as to how big it is. It was still plenty big, we left completely stuffed. We'll keep going back. read more

Spanky's rocks every time I eat there (only about 5 times) and its better than the rest in the area. I always find a table no matter what time I go and menue leaves it up to you too put together what you want. The portions are large and they also have healthy and unique specials. Went for brunch. 4 adults and a 5 year old. Hash brown and eggs where very good. Eggs Benedict where out standing. The Burgers are Great and the Turkey burger very tasty. Service out standing. This diner is amazing. I don't usually feel compelled to come online to review restaurants, but this one promoted me log on, start a yelp account, and write a review. Great service, great old school diner atmosphere, and some of the best (and most filling) breakfast dishes I've had. Pancakes with blueberries, 2 eggs, perfectly cooked bacon, and bottomless coffee. Didn't even have to ask for refills. The waitress was great. The maple syrup was served warm. The food was piping hot. If this place was in my home town, I would definitely be a regular. This place is your quintessential local breakfast joint ("greasy spoon!") My family has been there 6 times and loved it every time. There is always some combination of a loud talking friendly multitasking seasoned server (doing it all!!) and a friendly tattooed cook often listening to music while turning out awesome food (like a boss!) . We have never been disappointed. The hot cakes are awesome. The bacon crispy, the egg scrambles delicious...busicuts and gravy yum! And it doesn't break the bank to eat here either. Totally reasonable prices and big portions. It is everything you want in a small local greasy spoon. So hope this group sticks around and keeps this place going!! I love the food at spanky's but the owner is rude and I can't believe she keeps regulars with her attitude. They made a mistake on billing our card twice vs splitting it with our other party and she never apologized and continued to tell me it was my problem and I needed to get the money back from my friends (which makes sense) but the way she told me was very rude and could care less that her mistake was now my problem and made it perfectly clear that we paid her what was due so it is my problem. I am very upset with how I was treated and it seemed like her employees were even scared to tell her about this mistake when I called about it a week earlier with no return phone call on the matter. Guess she was waiting for me to call her back since she said she had gone through all the receipts when I called back. I am hesitant to continue contributing to her wallet after being treated like this and would still like an apology for their mistake. Maybe she'll read this and decide to apologize. Then maybe I will go back. Nothing against the chefs because they are great. read more

my husband & i just left here without ordering because we saw what i assume at first was the cook since he was wearing a chef apron in the bathroom because the door was partly left open & was unplugging or plunging the toilet & if that wasnt't bad enough, we then watched him proceed into the kitchen & begin cooking orders without washing his hands first!!! we were horrified & absolutely disgusted! we will not be returning to this establishment! read more

Terrible terrible terrible. Just freaking terrible. I had probably the worst experience I've had at any point in time at any restaurant coming to this silly mountain town restaurant. I came in and I waited at the door for about 15 to 20 minutes before I was even asked to sit at a table even though there was plenty of open seating. That shows that they don't actually look around to see who in the restaurant needs what. I finally was sat down and wasn't even asked if I wanted coffee or water. I already had in my mind the two items that I wanted (I decided that in the long time that it took them to even sit me down). Yet I ended up waiting 15 to 20 minutes more at the table! I waited so long that I decided to take it upon myself to call the cafe and put it in my order to go while I was sitting at the freaking table!!! It wasn't even that busy there was plenty of seats available that means there was plenty of time to get my order or at least my coffee! The fact that she went to the phone to take down another order from someone who called in first without even checking if I was thirsty is just ridiculous! I could see very very clearly that there were only two tickets ahead of my order so I decided to leave and I don't think they even noticed me walking out after waiting for so freaking long. I decided to go home and take care of a couple things and come back to get my food and be on my way because I was now in a hurry at that point . Well I sat down in front of the cash register waiting for the lady to even come and see who the heck I was and it took 5-10 minutes for her to ask me " were you the one that called in your order?" I then told her that "yes, yes I was the person that ordered on the phone". So what does she do? She decided to go take care of three other people's plates, two other people's coffees, and bus a table while I'm watching my food get Frozen cold!! Even though there was a busser to take care of all that crap. Now why would I pay for something that I'm literally watching get colder and colder in front of my eyes?! When she finally checked me out I took the food and I left. I'm not the kind of guy that dogs on a small mountain town Restaurant especially because it's my own town that I live in... But I have to tell you this was the worst food that I had ever received when I finally got my order. After waiting around an hour or more to deal with all this nonsense I was given a burnt omelette and a absolutely horrible eggs benedict! The eggs were not poached they were hard-boiled, and the dang Hollandaise sauce was so grimy, gritty and disgusting that I didn't even finish my plate. It probably was sitting in their fridge for a week! On top of all this my freaking potatoes weren't even fully cooked all the way!! And it was like that on both dishes!!! Are they trying to kill me? This is disgusting and unacceptable. I ended up eating at freaking McDonald's after this stupid experience because I was so hungry and upset, and I rarely resort to something like that. I have to be pretty mad to do McDonald's. This is the worst service and the worst place to eat and I've been coming here for a long time I decided to give them one last chance after years of upsetting food and service. Heck I even made this stupid Yelp account just so I can say to everyone else out there to just not waste your time and money. I think the only redeeming factor that this place has ever had in the past few years was allowing that guy Dannon Black to host a soup and bread line for the homeless! That's what made me come in quite a few times after that event happen. And now I come to find out that they're not even allowing him to have the soup and bread line here because Ashley doesn't want to do that?! I might give it another chance if she allowed the soup line to happen but apparently she just doesn't care about the community like I thought she did. And that is freaking terrible. Ladies and gentlemen, there are way better places than this trust me. If you want half cooked, ultra greasy, mainly MICROWAVED food with hair in it, then come to Spankys Cafe. But honestly I think People's Health in this country is far more important than being lazy about cooking your own food. Also why doesn't the freaking cook have to wear a hair net over his GIANT beard? I swear I got 5 inch long black hairs in my potatoes, I should have taken a picture. Where's the quality control? Do they wash their hands before touching food after grabbing something out of the fridge?? Not that I've ever seen! Worst restaurant experience ever! The staff is overweight, slow and unhealthy looking; the cook looks like he just stayed up doing meth,-a short,fat angry looking fellow with nasty teeth and greasy hair not tied back, who acted put upon when i inquired where my food was after 30 minutes!! It took 40 minutes to get my food even though there were only 2 other tables and it was a weekday. The waitress was fat, slow, rude, and stupid! I had to ask 4 times for water, and by the time I got my syrup for pancakes( at least 20 minutes!) they were ice cold. The plate and glasses were grease covered; in fact the whole place smells awful and greasy; in fact the smell of cigarettes and pot permeated the place, as if they were smoking in the kitchen! I was in the valley from Los Gatos to look at businesses to purchase and ironically my breakfast companion mentioned this place. If there is a God, maybe they will sell it to somethign desperately needed in Ben Lomond: a Weight Watchers, Curves, or a tanning spa, because it is an AWFUL restaurant! read more
