A charming little cafe, very Santa Cruz vibe. They have both indoor and outdoor seating. The menu is simple but the food is very flavorful. We got the burger in lettuce wrap with crispy potatoes and the Cesar salad. We ate every bite of food because it was completely delicious but also the serving sizes weren't very big. It's okay for lunch tho. The service was good. We will be returning for sure!

Solid brunch spot! We got the waffles and a seasonal veggie scramble that came with some really incredible chicken sausage. Waffles were just okay, no syrup and whipped cream kind of tasted like nothing. Maybe stick to savory if you're stopping by. I can't say this place would be making the top of a must try brunch list in Santa Cruz, but it's definitely worth checking out. I've heard great things about dinner service, maybe we'll come back to try it again :)

This is a charming restaurant. We sat in their lovely dog-friendly courtyard. There is a parking lot a short walk away with very reasonable prices; we ended up paying $2 to park while we dined. I ordered the roasted beet appetizer, a salad with a citrus dressing and goat cheese. It was excellent, and I scarfed it down before I could take a pic. I ordered one of the specials, Chicken Picatta, with veggies and mashed potatos. It was delicious. My husband had the Gabriella benedict, with focaccia instead of English muffin, and avocado. He loved it. The service was excellent with special attention paid to our dog, Zoey. I would definitely return here!

Must try the cauliflower with pine nuts and raisins a mouth full of flavor. The cauliflower is cooked to perfection

Great service in this quaint restaurant using fresh local ingredients. The space is very nice and reminds me of restaurants in Carmel. There is seating outside so you can people watch. We had the home made pasta with smoked salmon which was excellent and the cauliflower was unique and delicious must try

Super super cute little spot, tucked away a block away from the main street. As soon as my daughter and I walked by, we both wanted to dine here. The restaurant is in a cozy house- with indoor, outdoor and alley-way seating. The alley way seating was so cute, like out of a little Italian romance scene. Service was top notch- our server was so super sweet. Huge breakfast/brunch/lunch menu- We had the vegetable hash which was super tasty, and also a simple but refreshing Market salad

We went years and years ago and had a memory that it was quite good. Some of the current reviews made me question if my memory was accurate, but after dining there again I still think it was quite good. Small, very cute space. (although for the size they have quite a few tables!). And they have both outdoor and semi-outdoor options. I was surprised how busy it was on a Wednesday evening. Focaccia was delicious (when is it not?). Prosciutto wrapped asparagus was delicious. Loved the arugula and basaltic with it. My truffle mushroom ravioli was quite good. Very rich creamy sauce that the sausage paired with very well. I suppose maybe the only complaint is that the flavor of the mushroom in the ravioli was maybe a little buried. But it was very good. My husband enjoyed his Porcini Gnocchi. Hi sauce wasn't as good as mine, but the Gnocchi themselves were super fresh and tasty. They have a good wine list, as well as good beer on the menu. It did seem they were a little understaffed - food came out in the time frame expected, but we didn't get checked on much - needed to flag someone down for more water. But I can see how it could be hard to prepare for a Wednesday - like I said, it was busier than I would have expected.

What had enticed us to go to VIM was the creativity of the menu. There were combinations I hadn't seen before and it seemed that the chef was bouncing around the globe choosing ingredients to combine. The result? Every bite is a sensation in your mouth! Different spices, flavors and textures combined to make you slow down and savor the experience. We shared a salad and two entrees (pork and filet) and tried to make sure we saved room for dessert since I had read that the owner was master. Every dish we had we enjoyed from the first bite to the last! And the desserts? Holy smokes! The chef is known for the chocolate cake (which was divine and very rich) but the cheesecake was another level! It was like eating creamy clouds of deliciousness. The service was spectacular! In a world where customer service is sometimes hard to come by, VIM knocks it out of the park. Our waiter, Cole, was incredibly knowledgeable, personable and attentive. I have read a couple reviews knocking the ambiance or configuration of the restaurant . There are limited tables and a lot of space between them. The ceilings are high, also giving a lot of space to the restaurant. It definitely has a different feel, but what it does is allow is for you to talk to and actually hear your dinner companions!! That is nearly unheard of in restaurants now, where they are optimizing every square space by cramming tables so close to each other that you can barely hear yourself think. I appreciated that as an additional part of the wonderful dining experience. You are best to get a reservation. There is a bar that I believe takes walk-ins, but when we got there at 6:30 it was full. We will definitely be coming back!

The food was delicious, great flavors and unique combinations that excite the palette, the watermelon was a big highlight for me. This will not be my last visit, I look forward to coming back hungry for more!

Our server, Aya, took great care of us -- she's not the reason for this review. The problem arrived with the check: a $5.18 line item labeled "SVC Fee" that didn't appear on the menu or the table. When I asked about it, our server said there was nothing she could do. I asked to speak with a manager. Without an introduction or any salutation whatsoever, Shannon just launched right into a rationalization that "a lot of restaurants are doing this now" and explained that processing fees cost the restaurant $7,000-$10,000 a month, that they've been adding the surcharge "for a few months," and that "no one has batted an eye." She offered a $10 gift certificate (which I declined) and agreed she'd "explore" adding the fee to the menu (it's not presently on their website either). She said she doesn't want customers to be "confused" like I was. No, I wasn't not confused about anything. It isn't the $5.18. It's the principle, and the law. California's SB 478 (Civil Code § 1770(a)(29)) requires advertised prices to include all mandatory fees. SB 1524 carves out restaurants -- but only if those fees are "clearly and conspicuously displayed, with an explanation of [their] purpose," on any advertisement, menu, or other display containing the price. That disclosure requirement has been in effect since July 1, 2024. As of July 1, 2025, the disclosure must also meet the heightened formatting standard in Civil Code § 1791(u): larger or contrasting type, set off from surrounding text. The receipt labels the charge "SVC Fee." But a service charge is squarely a mandatory fee subject to SB 1524's disclosure regime. And even taking management's verbal characterization at face value -- that it's a credit card processing surcharge rather than a service charge -- a cryptic three-letter abbreviation appearing for the first time on the check satisfies neither "clearly and conspicuously displayed" nor "explanation of its purpose". Disclosing a mandatory charge for the first time on the receipt isn't compliance, and it certainly isn't transparency (as Shannon characterized it). It's statutorily noncompliant billing -- "no one batting an eye" notwithstanding.

Finally it came into my head when my in-laws asked me where I'd like to go for dinner for my birthday! It's a small quaint indoor restaurant but outdoors has a large patio with seating too! We were sat at the round table which was quiet and intimate. Everything we tried was fantastic, the starters we had were the foccacia. It wasn't warmed which I would've preferred but it was still fluffy and tasty and served with sea lettuce butter which definitely had a hint of garlic, which always makes things better ;). Who doesn't love garlic?! The other starter we tried was the asparagus, loved it! Would totally order again! The portions were perfect for sharing for 4 of us as well. My entree I ordered the beef check gnocchi, they make their pasta in house and this was so rich and freaking tasty! Absolutely similar to a short rib. 10/10 recommend!! My husband ordered the CA strip loin, cooked perfect medium served with a garlic aioli and crispy potatoes. I got to try his and his was equally fantastic! My mother in law ordered the rock cod crudo and she shared with me as well, the chili oil really came out in flavor in the dish, it was plated beautifully as well. I think this would be a great shared appetizer for groups too. Father in law got the fried chicken, and WOW - an entire HALF chicken! So large, local chicken, fresh and flavorful. Desserts we had the pistachio pana cotta and olive oil cake, the panna cotta was FANTASTIC. You should absolutely order this if you have room! The service could have been quicker, but she was still attentive overall dining time was about 2 hours which is long in my opinion and we could've ordered more beverages and upsold us but overall this place is a must try! You will not be disappointed!

The green sauce was light but paired really well with the potatoes. I loved how fluffy the interior of each potato was. We also had the steak tartar with house made potato chips. The potato chips were so light and thin, and the steak tartar was super soft and salty from the fish eggs. I almost forgot we were eating raw beef and thought it was raw fish. For entrees we had the lasagnette & beef cheek. The lasagnette's flavor was reminiscent of american chili. Not bad but not my favorite flavor. The beef cheek was my favorite dish of the night! Sooo tender and the sauce it was in was so buttery. The gnocchi it came with was really soft and almost tasted cheesy. The food was good and fresh, but I feel that every dish ran on the saltier side. I'd highly recommend making a reservation ahead of time for convenience. The place itself is so cozy and the vibes were so refreshing outdoors during sunset. The servers are attentive. Food takes a bit longer to come out but it's because everything is being prepared fresh. The place is pricy but it makes you full! My friends and I each paid around $47 for this meal.
