I was so lucky to find Robert a year ago at spa Sydney. I've never been so happy with a stylist. He is very professional and has a passion for hair. I've got thick, curly hair which some stylists can be intimidated by--but not Robert. He gives me a great cut and teaches me styling tips. Time flies when you're sitting in his chair. He has such a fun personality. I am so happy with him that I've recommended him to my mom and sister. My mom has fine, thin hair and my sister has wavy hair. Oh Robert, you never disappoint. I recently came back for a TRIM, because my hair is curly I can't really cut to much. I watched in amusement as I could see the wheels turning in his head on what to do with my hair. As usual he listened to what I asked and went just to the edge of my limits without dishonoring my request. And as usual he is a master at what he does. My hair hasn't looked this good in months lol. I just had my hair cut at Spa Sidney and I recommend Robert, especially if you have curly hair. I have always read that curly hair should be cut dry, so that the stylist can see the curls, not guess how much they might spring up, or if they will land here or over there. Robert is the first stylist that has ever done this and I love love LOVE my hair cut. I asked him to come up with ideas for color and he really thought about my skin tone and eye color when he chose the (awesome reds) colors. Oh. Em. Gee. Y'all, this place is a godsend. I originally bought a Groupon for a facial, cut, and massage a few months ago then forgot all about Spa Sidney. Then, in a stroke of misfortune, I had a hair emergency when I tried an at-home color and wound up with dull, lifeless, boring color. Then I remembered my Groupon and called to make an appointment for a cut and color. First of all, the place is a total Tardis (bigger on the inside). The staff was SUPER friendly, none of this fancy-schmancy-I'm-too-good-to-be-doing-hair stuff here. Robert was the hair wizard who tamed my bad color and I swear you couldn't ask for a nicer guy. He immediately made me feel welcome, and listened to EVERYTHING I did with my hair. We talked color, style, length, and he actually LISTENED! Within minutes Robert had my total trust and the results were amazing. He absolutely nailed the color I was asking for and treated my hair to a deep condition to help heal the damage I had done, all the while talking to me as if I were an old friend. I was never pressured to buy product, never excluded from a salon-only conversations, and left with fabulous hair that seriously made me feel like I was in a movie when I walked down the sidewalk in Long Beach. The only catch was the cash-only transaction, but I would seriously consider paying in internal organs just to have my hair done there again. I was looking for a local salon and I found this little gem! I had my curly hair cut and colored by Robert O. I am so happy with the results! Robert was so warm and engaging and put me immediately at ease. Oh, and did I mention he is super funny and complementary? I am the worst at answering questions about my "plan" for my hair. My vague answers did not deter Robert. He helped me set a plan in motion for growing out my hair and even shared how long he thought I should grow it to best fit my features. He picked out a great color and explained why he thought it would look good on me. Throughout the process, Robert made me feel like we were collaborating together on a mission for great hair, rather than telling me what I should do. Robert is THE FIRST stylist who dried my hair (with a diffuser) before cutting it. I typically have to ask/suggest this to stylists and since I'm not very firm, they usually don't do it. This step is so, so important for curly hair. I can't tell you how many lame haircuts I've gotten because the stylist didn't take it into account that my hair goes through dramatic changes from a wet to dry state. Robert explained aftercare, styling suggestions, and recommended products for me. Overall, Robert put a great amount of attention and time into my hair and it really shows. I love the cut! A little history: I had moved frequently for 10+ years and had never developed a relationship with a stylist until I moved to NYC. She was wonderful, several of my friends went to her, and it was with great trepidation of having to leave her (not the city!) after 3 great years that I moved back to CA. Just couldn't find a place locally when a miracle happened! My NYC stylist and her husband ended up moving out to LA! Prayers answered and I knew I would have a stylist for life UNTIL...she had a baby and decided to focus her attention on raising her bundle of joy (which I totally support). I knew I had to get down to business and find a new stylist! Turning to Yelp, I found Spa Sidney and decided to give it a go and took advantage of it's Yelp Deal. Since the stylist I requested was getting ready to move out of state (aagghh!), the receptionist recommended Robert. Well, let me just say it was kismet! My first appt. was during the holidays so it was a bit crazy for both he and I. He greeted me like an old friend and we kept the cut simple without too big of a change. I really appreciated how much time he spent on my hair and really trying to get to know me. I left feeling good and ready for the holidays. My second visit came 2 months later. By the time I came in to see him I was over my hair in general. I wanted something different and more dramatic than I had had in a while. I wanted to go short but wasn't sure how or if it would look good with my face shape. I came armed with pictures. The first thing Robert asked was "How long have you been thinking about this?" I promised it wasn't a reaction to anything and that I had been wanting to do it for several months. We spent a while discussing it and he analyzed the different possible lengths. Then he got to work! At the first cut, I thought "what did I do?" and "No worries! It's just hair; it grows back!" But by the time he was done, it was AMAZING!! I never believed I could wear a short style but it looks great on me (key part: on me!)! It has made such a difference. EVERY SINGLE PERSON I know has told me how great my hair looks. They even tell me twice or three times how great my hair is. People I just happen to cross paths with at the gym even have told me how great it is. HOLY COW!! I've already recommended him to several of my friends and have been told by others that I inspired them to go shorter. What?!? ME? A "trend setter"? I can't recommend Robert highly enough and think I have found my stylist for LIFE (or at least a really long time!)! read more

I have been having my hair cut by Robert at Spa Sidney for about 5 years now. I always look forward to the day when I go to get my hair cut. Robert is amazing. I have a simple short men's cut, but he takes time with my hair when many others just give it a quick cut. Not only is Robert wonderful but the entire staff is incredibly friendly and lots of fun. Unprofessional and rude- I had to reschedule an appointment and had been trying to call all morning to do that well before the scheduled time, nobody answers. So finally I left a voicemail saying "please call me back to confirm this I would like to reschedule" I get a call back from somebody with the MOST condescending attitude- Me:"Hi yes I got a missed call, I believe you're returning my call to reschedule the facial as I had said in the voicemail" Him: (Scoffs) "Um, a cancellation would have been nice before a reschedule don't you think?" Me: "Um yes I tried calling you all morning, and I made the appointment online late last night, so I had been trying to call you all morning." Him: "I mean, you were supposed to be here an hour ago, what happened? I mean, is everything okay?" (not in a nice way) Excuse me? First of all- don't try to talk to me like we actually know each other, second of all going on and on is the most unprofessional and rude thing to do with a customer let alone a stranger! As a shop owner I know a little something about customer service. I kept ignoring his questions of "Why didn't you show up, is everything okay in your life?" and finally I said so I wanted to come in next week etc" Him:" Ugh- so is this for?" Me: " Its for my mother in law. And I just want to clarify that I had been trying to get in touch with you to reschedule, and I didn't want to just 'not show up' on you." Finally I felt so uncomfortable by this conversation that I didn't want to send my mother in law here for a"relaxing facial" that I told him I hope this attitude won't be present when my mother in law comes in, its a gift for her. He was quick to ask me where I found out about them. I said yelp and I received a groupon credit. Immediately he urged me to get a refund from Groupon. Wow- great way to bring in continuing business! Defeats the whole purpose of getting new customers to try out your spa! I suggest you first of all answer the phone, second of all change your attitude, and third of all if you don't like your business bringing in customers from Groupon- get the hell off Groupon. This is a review of Robert Orgill, not Spa Sidney. I want to start off by saying that I did not intent to ever write a review. I was not happy with Robert Orgill and knew I was never going to get my hair cut by him again. But two things made me write this review: 1)we rely on Yelp for honest reviews; 2) he gave my husband the worst cut/style I have ever seen. It started with a great cut 18 months ago and quickly became hit and miss. Robert seemed so sweet, I always wanted to give him another shot. But it the emotional upkeep exhausted me. I had to ooh and ahh about haircuts and deal with a youth obsession - botox, who, what, etc. I go to a salon to get a great haircut and feel good, not work to make my stylist feel good. My last appointment was the final straw. He gave me really bad haircut and then made it very clear that his biggest concern was that my Facebook profile did not highlight one of his haircuts. Whaa??? My husband continued to see Robert and the cuts/styling were getting worse each month. Robert was making him look like a frumpy middle aged businessman from the 60's. When my husband came home this week, he looked like he had (thick) plastic Ken-doll hair. I am not sure why Robert did this...all I can guess is that it was either personal or he is that bad. read more

I have been looking for someone to cut my hair like Robert Orgill for a long, long time. He is very attentive and is extremely knowledgeable with what to do with my hair. Besides he listens!! I always like a stylist that can tell me honestly what would look good on me based on my face structure and type of hair, not necessarily what looks adorable in a picture (although he is really good at that too)! He keeps up to date on current hairstyles as he is always taking classes, which I love to hear. I am amazed how many people stop me wherever I go to compliment me on my hair. Nothing is more meaningful than to be complimented by a stranger. The haircut I receive is so easy to maintain even when i am due to get it cut again. I have short hair but I like to do different things with it. Robert is also an expert on cutting the hair so it doesn't drive you crazy during a "growing out" period! I truly enjoy going to Spa Sydney. Robert Orgill is such a fun person! He is great at his job and you also enjoy being with him. I started seeing Sidney in February and since then I have gotten several compliments on my skin by people who haven't seen me in a while. I thought it was lighting or something but the compliments keep coming so it must be the great facials and products that I get from Sidney! I just love this place! My review has not changed at all in terms of my rating, I just want to say again that it is the best place to get a facial (and the massage is incredible!) and Sidney's eye brow assistance is yet another testament to his magic hands. My skin feels amazing, brows are as good as they can get, and days after the amazing pumpkin facial my skin is feeling great! Sidney doesn't always suggest products, but when he does, they are actually products that work and improve the texture and feel of your skin. I just got my eyebrows done at Spa Sidney and wow do they look gorgeous. My eyebrows have been basically let alone for awhile, and I decided to go ahead and get them done. After reading positive reviews on Yelp, I called a booked an appointment for the next day. Sidney did my eyebrows and he was very clean and precise. They look really good. It hurt like hell though, but that's mostly because I have very sensitive skin and my eyebrows aren't used to being waxed. He's a really nice guy and talked to me a bit throughout my session. He even went to the same high school as me. Haha what a small world. Anyway, I recommend Spa Sidney for eyebrows, and might journey back for a facial or whatnot. :) read more

I came for the waxing service and was seen by Alexis, who is absolutely amazing by the way. She was very informative and answered all my questions and concerns in regards to pre and post care of my skin in relation to waxing. This salon and spa is the best in the area. I have had my hair cut and colored by Christian for over 5 years. He is attentive, listens to what you want and executes with precision. I always receive great compliments on my hair and have referred several people to Spa Sidney. I have also experienced a wonderful facial treatment from Sidney. He uses quality products and my face was clean and glowing when he finished. A very relaxing experience overall. I recently moved out of state and can tell you that I miss the great people in this salon. The only minor criticism I have is the music choice in the salon. I would opt for a more hip range of tunes, rather than the the tranquil spa tunes that are played. I was in dire need of a facial and Spa Sidney was more than accommodating. I called in and was told that I would be able to be seen within half an hour. Alexis did my facial. She was friendly, professional and extremely helpful. She thoroughly explained all of the different procedures and gave me advice that would help improve my skin care regime. She suggested that I pass on the microdermabrasion because I still have a few breakouts and suggested that a glycolic peel would be more beneficial as of right now. She asked me about my skin, my history with break outs and took a look at my skin before deciding what procedure would work best unlike the other place I have been to. Robert at Spa Sidney is fantastic. Since he has been cutting my hair I have been able to forget the perms and curling irons! With very little product and good blow dryer the cut is so good I just use my fingers! It really is all about a good cut! Because I travel a lot for my job, the great cut lets me travel light. My 21 year old daughter always has something nice to say about my hair since Robert has been cutting it. She says I look younger and more hip. Thanks Robert!!! read more
