I don't have what anyone would call a loving, warm or close relationship with my eyebrows. I've always resented them, just out there, all misshapen, all wayward and unbalanced; kind of like the rest of me come to think of it... I've never been good at shaping them -- tweezing too much off the right, off the arch on the left, and the whole experience was just leaving me feeling like a beauty school dropout. And so, staring at them in the mirror the other morning in all their unwieldy-ness, I mentally scanned my schedule that day to see if there was any way I could sneak time in to get them waxed. Following my morning doctor's appt, I put in the call to Spa Sidney, after recalling a favorable review from the favorable Holly T on this place, and besides I was in the area. Spa Sidney is fun, whimsical and inviting, and I found easy parking out front. Sidney is warm and funny, talkative and knowledgeable and gave me some confidence that my brows could be reckoned and reasoned with and that we'd put them on a plan (think Weight Watchers for brows.) After a comfortable, minimally-tweezing experience, we agreed to check back in with each other after 6 weeks to see where we (my brows and I) are and go from there. I'm excited to have added a threesome to this twosome with my brows -- Sidney makes for a great partner in wayward brow-hood. I look forward to seeing him again and watching him attempt to tame my untamed brows. I can't speak for the massage, facial or hair-cutting aspects of this spa-type place, but Sidney told me that he does all of the facials and massages himself so he has strict control over the quality. Like Monica P. said, Spa Sidney is absolutely adorable. All the workers are very friendly and warm. They have the cutest display of beauty products in front. I went here for a massage and Sidney himself gave me my massage. I asked for a deep tissue and it wasn't as hard as I like my massages but admittedly, I like really, really intense massages. It was still nice and relaxing, though. Sidney mentioned I should come back for a facial and I explained I don't really see the point in spending money on facials - I go in, they do some stuff and I come out looking the same - but he assured me once I get a facial from him I would see things differently. Manny has a knack for making anyone look amazing. After my first couple visits to Manny, I began getting compliments from the people I work with (in an office down, down, down in San Clemente.) But then something extraordinary started to happen- I was getting compliments from strangers! Strangers who would stop me just to ask who did my hair! Turns out, this is something Manny hears about frequently. Although you wouldn't know it from his humble demeanor, Manny has done hair & makeup for all kinds of magazines and what-have-you. Best part is, even a non-famous person such as myself can afford to indulge. If you get the chance, I highly recommend a visit to Spa Sidney. While not a true fu-fu-fancy boy, I did have my out of control eyebrows done there as well, and although they looked "cleaner," nobody has commented on them. Which is a good thing! read more

Much as I have tried to convince my hair it has refused to grow out of my skull my preferred color of red. So for many years I have dyed my hair. I've occasionally tried having it done professionally but most stylist around here are really blonde specialists and the results have always been mediocre at best. So back I would go to my laundry room with my dye stained shirt making a mess and getting my own mediocre results But the ( insert angelic angel choir sound) I met Renee. Renee teaches hairstylist how to color hair. And there is a good reason for that. It's because Renee is a color genius. Renee has made my hair look as though it does grow out of my skull red. Not just any color red but the perfect natural but bright with great depth and shine and I love love love it! She also did a lovely trim on me and I look like a new woman. She is delightful and her cute Aussie accent is endearing but she really really knows her color. Which is why I will be back for sure. read more

Sidney is a dream come true. No, really, a dream. I'm not really the girly girl type, thinking that splashing water on my face in the morning after I brush my teeth is considered "washing." Sidney has come to realize that and accept it, and has found ways to get me hooked on just enough product (think a cleansing liquid and some moisturizer) to make me look better than decent. One thing I can't manage myself is the not so wonderful Italian eyebrows I inherited... thick and full, like dead caterpillars above my eyes. Sid has been shaping them (or knockingthem down as I call it) for almost 10 years now, and I honestly do get compliments on them. I still find it odd for a stranger to tell me I have great eyebrows, but I smile and silently thank Sidney for his awesome work. There have been times when I have given in and gotten a facial, and experienced 60 minutes of pure heaven. The things that man can do with his hands... I walk out of the room barely able to walk, hair mussed up, and positively glowing. And yes... its all because of a facial. He uses quality products, understands your skin type, and teaches you how to make yourself look great everyday. As others have said, he is an absolute doll, super friendly and welcoming. As for the rest of Spa Sidney... all the hair stylists are super awesome. I haven't had a haircut there, as I am loyal to my stylist, but I have seen them create fabulous cuts on others. Everyone is friendly, hugs and kisses galore, and the shop itself is darling. Sidney has this knack for re-decorating about once a month, so everytime you go in something will be updated or moved around. It always looks fresh and up to date, and definitely not foo-foo shi-shi and stuffy. If you are looking for a new stylist, I suggest you give them a try. Just went in to get my haircut with Jackie. I have to admit, I normally postpone haircuts as long as possible in fear that my hair will end up butchered. She was awesome! She gave me tips on how to brush my bangs (since I was stubborn and requested to have them cut), she was patient with me and listened to my needs. I called a bit late (5:45 pm) and asked if anyone could possibly take me in since my schedule has been super tight lately. Jackie was kind enough to offer her services even though it was last minute. The salon is adorable and very cozy, I felt comfortable and at ease. Her professionalism and experience shined through and I left with an amazing cut. Definitely get your hair done with Jackie. The parking situation is a little tough, but that's the only downfall. This review to so overdue! I have been going to Manny for at least two years now. I am about as picky as they come when it comes to hair. I think he's amazing but above that I love his creativity. If I need to change it up he always come up with an idea or vision where I could reinvent myself. Too often I have come across stylists who do the same thing over and over without any sort of imagination. I moved into the building next door to this place last summer. My fiance needed a hair cut so we decided to give it a try. Couldn't be more convenient. Christian cut his hair and it looked great! So, I decided to try. I love my hair, I have had it every color, every length, bangs, no bangs....etc etc. But now that I am a bit older and getting married soon, I kind of needed to pick a color and stick with it for a while. Christian is AMAZING! I have curly hair that I wear both straight and curly and he cut it perfectly. The color was awesome! Very Jennifer Aniston, not too blond, just blond enough. Today was my first experience at Spa Sidney. I booked a facial with Sidney himself and was not disappointed. The spa was clean and simple with a nice hint of orange throughout. Sidney sat down with me for a quick consultation about my skin and the problem areas. The facial was one of the best i've ever had. He educated me on each product he used and recommended a regime to improve my skin. The experience was relaxing and I walked away feeling refreshed and rejuvenated. Watching the video about this spa makes me want to go there, it sounds like everyone there knows what they're doing, so I gave it a try and I purchased a "deal" for SPA SIDNEY. What a "great" deal, I ended up with a rainbow hair color!!!!! In addition, I had a deal which at the end, was no deal because the total amount I paid what I was told without a coupon, although I had a "yelp deal". The total amount paid at sidney plus what I have to pay to get this fixed is way more that what I had paid if I was to go to a professional hair stylist. I explained the worker -not hair stylist for sure- that I wanted to evenly tone my hair because I've had highlights and putting a single color would not work, my hair needed a special professional approach. The worker seemed to "understand" the situation.....she said "okay, I get it" and my mistake was to believe her. Minutes later....she had used the same color all over my hair knowing that it needed a different procedure to achieve the wanted result; therefore, I ended with a rainbow. Thanks Amanda, great job!! It would all had been a different story if she would had explained what she was going to do and aware me that she was not best at doing color. That would had been highly appreciated. i live like 45 mins away but husband and i are more than willing to drive to go here! Manny is the best! He was recommended to me by my cousin for our wedding and since then, i've been coming back to him. he makes sure we get the right tlc for our hair. he gives so much attention to the cut. it's never rushed. we always leave happy. hehe... and sid is a sweetheart! husband and i (again) got our facial. so relaxing! i've tried going to other places to have my brows done and nothing compares to what sidney does. i know, it's just brows. but that's exactly my point! in other places they always rush waxing your brows off. you'll be done in 3 mins! not with sidney. he makes sure you get as much attetion as needed. he puts powder and ointments and toning lotion or whatever. he even massages it a little bit. you get what i'm saying. point is, i love it here. =) read more

Based on reviews of Manny on yelp I decided to cheat on my hairdresser and try a cut by Manny. I mean I live a block from the place while my usual stylist is in San Diego. I was having a hair crisis and was going to NYC in 2 days. I called Manny and he agreed to see me immediately. I have to say I have AWESOME thick, wavy hair that is naturally shiny and needs very little care. But my hair style was boring and the cut nothing to make my dark locks stand out. To top it off a close friend said I needed a new look and that my hair did not look my age (yes she is a hater big time) I told Manny I wanted a new look. Something more city, less good girl, with a dash of attitude. He did all that in 2 hours and made me feel like a million bucks. Manny is my new go to guy! read more

She also was able to fix my layers from a previous salon who made my layers uneven and shorter on one side they are not related to Spa Sidney. I couldn't be more thrilled and excited! I was in a pinch and wanted to get my hair done for a wedding. I had called my favorite salon Flaunt and stylist Alex was booked. He's booked every Saturday, I should have known better! Anywho, I had a friend tell me that she goes here to get her hair done. I did not remember her stylist, so I called and they took me within 5 minutes. The experience was ok. The stylist washed my hair and even got the back of my head (the back of he neck is almost always missed because of the way your head lies in the sink). I was super happy about that. When it came down to the style, I had asked for volume and curls. My hair is always flat. What I got was some curls and no volume. Another con, is that they don't take credit or debit cards. So I had to go find an ATM. It was also really expensive too, $45 for a style. I pay $30 dollars at FLAUNT. I handed the stylist $60 dollars and she asked me if I needed change. Pet Peeve!!!! Yes, I did. She's lucky I gave her a $10 tip. It will be the last time I go there. read more

I love Sidney!! My friends and I have been getting facials from Sidney for over 6 years. He is absolutely the most talented facialist I have ever seen, and I have been to dozens. In addition to an incredible facial, Sidney also includes an arm massage, leg/foot massage, scalp massage and NOW a parafin wax hand treatment all included in the facial price. This is unheard of! The last thing I want to recommend is getting a group of friends together to pamper yourselves and be sure to take advantage of the lounge in back. I've been reluctant to do so because I'm just not a fan of maintaining my hair (I'm known to go over 6 months without a hair cut). However, one day I decided to bite the bullet, called in and asked when I could schedule with Manny. It must have been meant to be because they had an appointment THAT day! I went in with a few pictures that I sort of liked but nothing that I absolutely knew I wanted. Manny advised me on what would be best for my color. He did his thing and it turned out GREAT. I have received a few facials from a lovely girl by the name of Alexis!!! I will never go anywhere else for my face because this girl is absolutely awesome!. She is wonderful at explaining my skin to make sure I'm clear and gives the best neck and head massages this side of the Sierras. Alexis takes great care in removing every last tiny hair from my brow, and does her best to ease painful extractions. Great small place, I think I have found my hair salon =) I came here to get a hair cut, nothing special just a trim. I loved my hair stylist, Jamie. Very nice, gave me good tips about what I should do with my hair and how to take care of it. The atmosphere seemed nice and relaxed. This is actually the first review I have ever written... and I actually used Yelp for the first time ever to find more information about Spa Sidney. I have been coming to Spa Sidney for about two years now, and I am consistently happy with the services and great people at this sunny little salon. -- Skin Care -- During my first visit to Spa Sidney (for a Yelp haircut special), I met the owner Sidney and took a walk around the salon and learned about the other services offered there. I spoke of my acne and skin woes... worse than it should have been for a 27 year old trying to become a "grown up". The skincare services and products are a bit out of my normal budget, but Sidney promised me that if I went along with his facials and products, in six months I would see significant improvements and in 12 months my skin would be totally improved. Well, it took some TLC (and a monthly facial, and high-end product such as Guinot and Jan Marini)... but he was absolutely right! I live away from where I grew up, so when I would periodically return home, I was always complimented on how great my skin was looking and progressing. The battle my skin waged against me was tamed by Sidney's high-tech (and relaxing) treatments and potions. Lately, I have encountered extreme stress and other personal issues to which my skin used to revolt... and we now simply encounter a few skirmishes. -- Hair -- My first visit to the spa was with a friend, yelp coupons in hand for haircut specials. I also added some highlights to mine. My friend got a really awesome haircut that totally reflected her personality in her new style. She had her appointment with Max. I had an appointment with someone named Jackie, if I remember correctly. The color looked great, and the cut was well-executed... just not exactly what I wanted. I felt like she didn't really listen to me, despite doing a very good job on the color and cut. She's probably be a great stylist to go to if you weren't quite sure what you wanted, but that just wasn't me on that particular day. ; ) Ever since that initial appointment, I have been returning to get my hair cut by Max and love it. He's friendly, quirky, and takes his time to cut my hair just the way I like it. He's been a good coach when I tried growing our my hair, and when I cut it short again. I have gotten color once or twice from Max, and I have been pleased with that too. One thing I like is that I have never felt pressured to buy any product or anything. I'll ask, "What's that you're using?" when my hair is being styled. I'll get an answer, a few details about it, but none of that uncomfortable up-selling of things. So - in short... great facials and skincare strategy, and great cuts. Also a good place for mid-length and short hair. read more

I'm not starting rumors but I think she comes from a family of unicorns, she is purely magical!! She came in early on a Saturday to accommodate my schedule, even though she was crazy busy, come to find out SHE WORKS SUNDAYS too!! I have a ridiculous schedule that rarely permits time for the necessities of life such as personal grooming. Now that I've found Renee, I shall look like a proper human again. I only had time for a haircut, which is amazing, however I will be back for my color and plan to get a facial as they use all Guinot products. LOVE, LOVE Tigi and Guinot and now Renee. I love my haircut!!! Jackie at Spa Sidney on Broadway has given me the perfect haircut. I spent the last three years looking for a great stylist to fill the void after my other stylist moved away. I have had countless bad cuts and bland cuts, and always have to fix it myself to no success. I was about to give up and shave my head bald until my friend recommended Ms. Jackie Amado. I thought"what the hell, one more try!" The best decision about my looks I have made in a long time. She understood the shape of my head, and my desire to no longer have to use products to correct the hair crazys!!! Christian is the best! I have been getting my haircut by him for just about a year now. I have curly hair and am always changing my mind about where I want to go with my hairdo. Christian can do it all. I currently have super duper short hair. Christian totally takes a lot into consideration when he is cutting your hair, like facial structure and hair line. I'm extremely happy with the cut I got at Spa Sidney. It was my first time, I was looking rather frumpy and I didn't know what I wanted to do with my hair. Anna asked me some questions about my style (or lack there of) and then gave some suggestions. The end result was wonderful and only took an hour. I was so lucky to find Robert a year ago at spa Sydney. I've never been so happy with a stylist. He is very professional and has a passion for hair. I've got thick, curly hair which some stylists can be intimidated by--but not Robert. He gives me a great cut and teaches me styling tips. Time flies when you're sitting in his chair. He has such a fun personality. I am so happy with him that I've recommended him to my mom and sister. My mom has fine, thin hair and my sister has wavy hair.
