The lady in the Salon said she just closed everything down and told me she couldn't open the register anymore. Looks like she was in a rush and couldn't even help me out. I love my hair! I went to Tula and she's been styling hair for over 30 years, so she knows what she's doing! Shes a great talent and fun to talk to! I'm blonde, so I love my beachy color; plus she gave me a beautiful "clean up" cut which I needed badly. I also got a Brazilian blow out, which was amazing! I'd never had one before. Called this morning to see if they could squeeze me in for a same day appointment and I was thrilled that I was able to see Tula (the owner of the salon). I'm from LB, but recently moved out of state, and am in town for a quick visit. Found Salon Soma here on Yelp and was pleased with all the great reviews. Upon arrival, I was warmly greeted and Tula made me quickly feel very comfortable. She listened to my request of wanting something a little different, yet easy since I have two young kids and rarely "do" my hair. She cut about 3 inches off and gave me long layers. We also did an espresso glaze, and my hair looks fantastic! Looks shiny, healthy, and beautiful! SO happy with my new hair, and look forward to visiting again next time we are in town. I was a walk in and everyone was very kind. My hair stylist was Hollie and she is amazing! She's very intuitive and takes in your wants and explains everything as she's doing it. I'm a definitely a person who is intimidated on going to hair salons, even nail salons. I have a hard time connecting w my specialist, typically feel awkward but Hollie was super kind and made me feel comfortable as she did my hair and it turned out great! I have very long hair and wanted to keep the idea of long hair but with layers and she did an awesome job and made sure every was blended nicely. I have been going to Salon Soma for the past 3 years to get my roots colored by Tula, who also happens to be the owner of the salon. First of all, I love this location right in the heart of Belmont Shore. It's right off 2nd Street so you are close to all of the shops, but don't have the noise of the traffic since you are on a side street. The salon itself is bright and airy and always decorated so nicely. I had been getting my hair done by the same colorist for many years in the San Fernando Valley and made the switch to Tula during the pandemic. Tula has done a great job at maintaining my bright orange hair color and is always fun to chat with when I'm in her chair. Ericka (sp) is great. She listens, takes pictures and notes and asks you how the last cut worked out. Each cut is consistent if not better than the last. She actually takes what she does seriously and studies her craft, constantly improving by taking classes and learning more about men's hair. Tula, the owner is ALWAYS upbeat and truly cares about her customers- she's not faking it- she really does care about people and engages customers. They also go out of their way to accommodate. If the cut needs to be adjusted a week or so later she'll take care of it- even if it's because you told her to do something different. The salon uses Aveda products for men which are the best. I'd attach a photo of my haircut but i'd be inundated with date requests from gorgeous women and my wife would divorce me so you'll have to take my word for it. Salon Soma rocks! Oh my Gosh!! My daughters hair looks so amazing, she has very thick wavy hair and she never puts it up, so we needed to cut it. My daughter looked at BOBS and I was so excited but scared because if you get a bad BOB, it looks terrible. ALEXIS, was very attentive and wow is she good at her profession. I cannot day enough positive things about this salon. First of all, the staff is amazingly talented and so humble about it! They really listen to what you're looking for and work together to get you exactly what you want. If you don't love what they do (you will) they're happy to work with you until it's perfect. I'm an engineer and I know nothing about hair but they are so helpful (and patient) in picking colors and cuts. I did a bleach and tone in Minnesota and was apprehensive to go to a new stylist in California after such a big change but Alexis totally SAVED my fried and yellow hair. Great stylists and beautiful shop located right off of 2nd Street in Belmont Shore. If you have curly hair, ask for Tula, the owner. They sell Avida products that smell so good. I got my hair colored last Saturday by Sarah, and she gave me exactly what I wanted. I went in with dark brown hair, and showed her a picture of medium brown with very soft, subtle highlights. She walked me through everything she was doing, and made my visit very comfortable. I've gotten so many compliments and I feel so pretty!! I told Jackie to give me layers and but not reduce the length. She did just that. My hair has more body and I have a more glamorous look. The higglights gave me a professional look which is great for my work life. Neatly done. I may get a few brighter highlights for a few chunks of my hair, just to get a little edgy.
