I've been going here for about 5 years now. Initially I found them because they were so close to my house. Now I live 30 minutes away and I make the drive just for them! That's how good they are... I honestly can't get enough. My usual is the 1 hour foot massage on the futon chairs for $30 and I come 1-2 times a month. Every single person is awesome so you get a great experience every single time. I have done a full body and facial,which are equally great, but you really can't beat the foot massage. I recommend to everybody and bring in new friends all the time. Love love love them! read more

I am starting to loose track of how many times I've visited Spa Serenity in Poway, CA for a treatment. I absolutely love the 1 hour foot massage - you can't beat the price!! Although it's a foot massage, they focus on the entire body - including the face and head. I agree with other reviewers, from the outside the place looks like the pits but once you get inside you'll be surprised at the tranquility. It's clean and serene. Since I could barely turn my head without wincing in pain, I figured I was due for a massage today. Decided to take the chance with a new place and picked something closer to home. Love the fact that they could accomodate my after-work request last minute. I got there a few minutes early and was told to wait. I was thinking maybe they would ask me to fill out a form for their records and to identify what I needed taken care of but that did not happen. Hmmm, okay. Instead, the (male) receptionist asked for my open-toed wedges and presented me with a pair of plastic slippers. Reluctant to hand over my aforementioned footwear, I asked why and he said I need to wear the slippers because of the carpeting in the massage area. Being the borderline germophobe that I am, I visibly recoiled at the thought of using someone else's slippers. Ewwww! I took the slippers anyway (why I did so, I don't know!), handed over mine for safekeeping somewhere and padded barefoot to the room. Then, I doused my hands and feet in hand sanitizer where I almost finished the entire (small) bottle. Yeah, I am that mysophobic (points if you know the word without checking Wikipedia - lol!). My massage therapist, Diana, was another hilarious adventure as she "cluck-clucked" her way throughout the hour, making indecipherable comments (in another language and I could only assume she was making comments on how tense I was), and kept working those knots over and over again. And what is up with the straddling? I can honestly say that never happens in non-Asian spas. It never fails to surprise me when an older, Chinese lady decides to get on top of the massage table and work your back until its minced meat. These ladies are seriously freakishly strong and surprisingly agile for their age. Good stuff. Honestly, I am still confused on whether I like the massage or not. And the visual of those blue, plastic slippers is still haunting me. read more

This place sucks. I bought my wife a Spa Serenity gift certificate for $100 for her birthday. When she went to use it she brought a discount coupon with her which would have saved her $10.00. They refused to honor the coupon saying it was not valid with the gift certificate. But I paid $100 for a $100 gift certificate! I could understand their position if I had paid less than $100, but I didn't. Furthermore, when she asked for a $50 massage, she was told she had to use the entire gift certificate in one visit, so she was forced to add a facial which she really didn't want. Finally, they said the gift certificate could not be used for tipping. What a horrible sub-standard way to do business. We will never go there again. Needless to say my wife did not enjoy her massage at all because she was so upset with the way they handled the entire business transaction. read more

Me too was a little apprehensive about going there, especially after I called them and the person on the other end had barely understandable English, but it is very conveniently located for me. I think it's the strip mall itself, provides not-so-thrilling vibe to it. Walking in, nice new tile floors, friendly (but still barely understandable) receptionist. Asked me if I prefer male or female masseuse, thought it was nice. Clean high ceiling room, nice music from the overhead speaker. I was massaged by a guy, who first asked me if I want medium or hard ( I guess he doesn't do soft or thinks he can't) massage, I had moderate back pain so I asked him to be gentle on the lower back, and he sure was. That was actually the most impressive part of the massage that he obviously remembered to be light on the lower back, even with his limited English he understood me and was very conscientious of it. For the quality and price (value) - doubt can be beaten. The bathroom is "seven star" clean (if you read some of my other reviews, you know it's important to me) and so is overall facility. I was a little surprised when masseuse left the room for the first time without saying a word, but it turned out that he went to get the hot massage oil. Understanding that his English is not up to par, I didn't mind that afterwards. If it wouldn't be for a little language barrier, I'd probably give them a five stars. Will review after I go there next time, I'd like to try their foot reflexology too. read more

Love this place. It may be not be PC but I will tell you up front - the place is "asian" so if that is a problem for you it is YOUR loss. The staff is friendly and very customer service oriented. Sometimes hard to understand on the phone but that is the only issue. The place is clean but no frills. Great massges, warmed table...couldn't ask for anything more. This place is really good! You do have to remember, you cannot be shy. Your bare butt may show when they are massaging. The rooms are separated by curtains but is kind of odd but they stay closed the entire time. I would recommend this to everyone. There is no cost difference between Swedish and Deep Tissue so they apply what they feel is appropriate. If at any time it's too hard or too light just let them know and they will adjust. Just remember, there is a little bit of a language barrier but they do a great job. read more

Horrible service. I called ahead of time and they said they didn't have availability until 6pm. I told them I would call back since I had to confirm with my dad if that time worked for him. I called back 5 mins later and no answer. They ended up calling me back at 5:30pm and apologized for not answering but they were busy. I said that's fine and asked if they had availability for 2 people. She confirmed yes. I came and she told me they only have availability for 1 person. I said I spoke with someone...she shook her head no and I said you guys actually called me! She just said she couldn't take 1 person so we left. This was the first place I had ever gotten a massage from. I chose it because I am a starving college student, and 40 dollars for an hour long massage is a great deal. I had recently underwent a trauma to my back, so I really needed a massage. I've gone to this place 3 times, gotten 3 different masseuses, and each time has been enjoyable. Yeah, it's a little sketchy because it seems like no one speaks English, but they definitely understand words like 'harder' and 'softer', and will listen if you say you need more time on a particular part of your body. read more

The massage itself was very good. The lady made us pay prior to the massage and as we were leaving we realized this wasn't the case for all customers( not quite sure what that was about). The building is cold and I asked if they could put the space heater near us but this request was ignored. Lastly the chair smelled of mildew. Not sure that we would go back! I signed my husband and I up for a couples massage. The price was fine, however when we arrived, they rushed us back to the massage area. Didn't have us fill out any paperwork or ask us what the problem areas were and what kind of massage we wanted. After we left, I still felt as bad as I did before I went in. I'm a fan of cheap massages, there isn't much room in our budget for such an 'indulgence' but when they are well priced it's a little easier for me to find the $ :). I've been many places, my two main 'got to's are the chair massages in the mall for a quick cheap fix, or Bellus beauty academy in Poway (hard to get an appt time)....at least they used to be. I desperately wanted a massage today, a Sunday, Bellus was closed so I went in search. Imagine my surprise when I found Serenity also in Poway with the SAME price for a Swedish. I called and was able to get an appointment set for just a couple hours later. I was pleased with the cleanliness, and found it to be very comfortable. In the past I have been disappointed at times with the weakness of my massages, but not the case today. I told her deep, but had to ask her to ease up 3 times, and was on the verge a couple more. I can typically handle quite a bit, so I'm not certain if she was just that strong, or how much of it was because it had been far too long since my last good rub. My only negative was that she massaged my face and hair without asking. I'm all for it, and it felt great/was helpful, but I was scheduled to be going to a birthday dinner directly from the massage, and didn't bring makeup. Basically my makeup was mostly removed, and my hair was quite off and a bit oily. That being said, I will absolutely be going back. read more

I like this place for Massage! They are very reasonable, especially with a coupon, and they do not push for tips. My favorite is the $25 1hour foot spa massage. I expected only feet and legs, but got almost a full body massage. It was a full hour as many are only 50 minutes. They are professional and the place is very clean. I hope they keep their reasonable prices and I will keep coming. Understanding the people who work there can be a problem as they seem to all be Asian some, with little English. read more
