If you're looking for anything more than a basic design or one color polish, this isn't the place for you. I consider (ed) myself a regular at Spa Nails 3. It was the first place recommended to me when I moved to Valpo 7 years ago. I used to love them! However I think the only reason I've continued to use them the last few years is out of convenience (they're good with walk ins and open on Sundays, often the only free day i have.) I admittedly with my schedule have been too lazy to try and find a new nail tech but after my last few experiences at Spa Nails, I need too. I just have not been happy with their work at least 3 out of the last 5 times I've been. Nail art has really taken off the last few years and I feel that unfortunately, spa nails 3 has not kept up with the trends and times. Ive learned the last year to just not bother with the designs or anything trendy. A simple, one color set is all I trust there anymore, and when I try anything else I leave disappointed every time (and I'm genuinely not even hard to please and never expect it to look exact to an inspo pic..but I feel most the time they don't even get close.) I will say that who you get really matters. There are some there who can do great work and some that can't. If you still end up going and get a service you liked, stick with that person via appointments because otherwise it's a gamble. read more

Terrible! Dirty, nasty workers, and a complete ripoff! My sister and I went for pedicures. My sisters bowl of water had the plastic in the bowl with hair in the water. They did not turn the massager on after being asked twice. My water was so hot I actually screamed. The lady laughed. She asked,"What color?" I said, " I'd like to see the sample nails please." Nope! Removes half the polish and tell me there's too much on my toes. "why u have three coats?!" I said, "I do not. There are two from my last pedicure two weeks ago." She sighs and shakes her head. I stated my sister and I were both getting regular pedicures. Nothing extra. She asks again what I'm getting. I tell her again. She said,"$35 or $45?" "$35 right?" I said,"just the regular, so if that's the cost yes." Nope! In @12 min my sister is done, and I have paraffin wax splashed on my legs with my feet in baggies. The manager today YELLED at a customer only because she didn't pick out a color after she (the manager) told her to sit down. It was crazy. So unprofessional and rude. Only came here because my regular salon was closed and I will never go back. I should have trusted my gut instinct and RAN FAR AWAY when I got bad vibes from this place. Not only is the place dirty, fingernail clippings, candy, stickyness on chairs, garbage cans filthy, tools looked dirty, dirt in cup holders, floors and walls dirty, their drawers are full of dirt and old nail clippings in the corners. Place is a mess and not organized. Here's my experience: The lady with the short dark hair did my nails. I requested a simple long almond shaped French nail. I had even shown her a photo before she started my nails. She didn't ask initially what shape or how long I wanted my nails (I assumed this was because of the photo I had shown her). I asked for a cuticle clean up and I had to ask for it TWICE (I even stated twice I would pay extra. No idea why she was so against doing it? I paid $15 extra to still have raggedy cuticles and pieces hanging off). After that, she started gluing white tips/plastic fake nails on my nails, I've never seen this done so I asked what her plan was. I showed her the photo AGAIN. She then asked me why I didn't tell her I wanted them long...but was never asked and in the photo I showed her the nails were long. So, possibly a miscommunication, I thought? At this point I sat the photo facing her so that she could look at it constantly to avoid anymore mistakes or miscommunication...When I did that she picked my phone up angrily to view the photo and violently dropped it back in the spot I had placed it in and walked away. She came back and had to take the white fake tips off and made it known she was MAD and that it was MY fault. I was a little confused when she didn't put a nude-ish base color on before starting to paint on the white tip, so again I questioned her and said are we going to put a nude color like in the photo? She got up with an attitude and asked me why I didn't tell her that it wasn't the right color when she didn't even apply a color to the base of my requested french nail...she left it clear and see through. She said "Of course you would wait until I started painting the tip" and proceeded to tell me she didn't have a nude color for the base, but got up and came back with one?? SO CONFUSING. At that point I felt like I was in a narcissistic relationship where everything was my fault even tho I was doing everything I could to make the experience as good and easy going as possible AND I'm the one paying for the nails. The nails were ok I guess they are super thick and not what I really was expecting. Yes, I got a pedicure with a different lady, she convinced me to get the best pedicure they offered, so I did. She told me she was going to apply my no chip color first and then massage me. I never received a massage. I went to the front counter and asked to speak to a manger regarding my experience and there wasn't one available, instead four of the workers ganged up against me, told me I got the massage that I didn't for 15 minutes (which was mind blowing to me because I must have blacked out for the 15 minutes she claims she was massaging me). And then a man there would not let me get a sentence out about the mail tech without saying "well that's just how she is". They discounted me $10 and I will never go back or recommend anyone there in my life. read more

This was the only spot I would come to get my nails done. But after this time I'm not coming back. A lady who started three weeks ago did my nails very poorly. She was very pushy about getting gel nails when I just want a regular polish (not surprised). When I couldn't decide on colors she told me to just sit down and I would pick after my full set is on. She cut my nails to size but never measured them to make sure they were even so they're all different lengths. I wanted three colors but she told me it's five dollars per color extra (I never heard of this in my life) so I didn't do that. The technician told my cousin to, "hurry up and pick a color" when she simply inquired about her options for color options and pedicures. The pedicure was painful, rough and rushed. The woman doing my nails took off my previous toe nail polish with such force it made my skin bleed. The utensils used appeared dingy, worn and unsanitary. The pedicure bowl had dust, dirt and hair surrounding it. They used a razorblade utensil without my consent which in many states is now deemed an illegal practice. The polish was put on sloppy and lifted off the same night. For an experience that was downright painful, uncomfortable and overpriced I was charged $50. She did not make me wash my hands or sanitize before using the dip powder, so I'm assuming that other people have done the same which is a hazard to health. She also left a bunch of nail polish on my hands and overall left my nails looking messy. I LOVE my (twice monthly) trips to Nail Spa 3! Before I begin to brag about my specific nail tech, I will say that before I started requesting appointments with her only, there were a few trips where I felt rushed & as if some of the techs were a little rude. With that being said, I have had more pleasant experiences than I have had bad experiences. The owner, Tracy is a great nail tech as well as John! But my absolute favorite is Mum. She has been doing my nails for months now & I have NEVER left unsatisfied. I always get a gel fill & she always exceeds my visions & she massages my hands after with oil. She's incredible! She's also very friendly & asks about my family & makes me feel more like a friend than a customer! Hands down, she is the reason I spend my money there instead of another nail salon. read more

I came in to do a no chip mani and a regular pedicure. I was picking out my color and the nail tech told me to come sit down and she starts working on my nails even though I haven't picked my color. I like to take my time when choosing a color and I'm looking through the swatches with one hand while she works on the other. I felt super rushed and she rushed through the manicure. Now for the pedicure, I barely got my feet soaked in the tub. She used a razor blade, plus the cheese grater thing. When she was done, she rinsed it in the tub and put it back in the basket next to me. Which tells me that it was not sanitized at all. So gross. Again, rushed through it all and was just super careless. I paid extra for the wax & scrub and she didn't even let the wax set and nor did she scrub my legs. She just rub it in and rinsed it off. I have been here a few times before, it's always been ok. This last time was horrible. I went in to get both a manicure and a pedicure. The pedicure was most important to me because I have been in a walking boot for four weeks and so my feet were horrible. The tech I had was more interested in inserting herself into every other tech's job, so she didn't pay attention. I asked for the most expensive pedicure to treat myself (which I have had before, so I know what it is supposed to entail), but she barely exfoliated, left the paraffin was on for less than two minutes, no massage at all, and no oil. I was irritated, but am not one to complain, so I went on with my manicure. She soaked my fingers for 30 seconds tops, did not push back my cuticles, I got no massage, just a little pat down with lotion. But the worst was the no chip polish. She was so involved in her conversation with the tech next to me that she kept messing up, having to fix it (which she did a terrible job of) and would stop in the middle of a finger for 1-2 minutes to talk. It literally took her 27 minutes to paint my nails, I timed it. Then on top of it, I was charged $35 for the no chip manicure, when I said that's not the normal price, I was told prices went up, yet they have the same book of services that they always have. I got my nails done here and I absolutely loved it! I also got my eyelashes done and it burned a little bit and I was like beauty is pain lol. Days have passed and my eyes were continuing to itch, burn and over all feel uncomfortable. It got to the point where I couldn't take it. My eyes looked irritated still after a week. I think I may have has an allergic reaction to the glue, so if you are sensitive to lash products it's prolly best to avoid this place. It was a pain to get them off( that's good) but not good when it's hurting and irritated so I used warm water and I was trying to use coconut oil. Finally they came off, my eyelashes are patchy and a lot of my natural lashes came off with the glued lashes. I've only gotten eyelashes one another time and I'm not sure if that's normal. read more

Nothing turns me off in a nail salon like having my nails filed unevenly. But I'm getting ahead of myself. My friend and I decided to come here for some pre-concert pampering this morning. We arrived around 10:20am and were seated for our services right away. They had about 8 different nail techs, which I liked because the other places I have tried in the past seemed to be light on staff and quick service. But I usually don't get my nails done on Saturday morning and I imagine that makes a big difference. The man who did my nails did an ok job. I felt like half my toes were cut and filed to be round and half to be square. I don't think this was intentional, I don't think he was paying attention. He was having a very lively conversation with the nail tech next to him. Also, in every aspect of the pedicure, he put way more effort into the first foot than the second. So I'd get this two minute foot/leg massage on the right, but apparently he was bored and ran out of time to give the left more than 30 seconds? It was uneven and annoying. When he got to the polish, I kept trying to check my toes because I'm very particular about my French pedicure. He kept pulling away from his neighboring nail tech to exasperatedly tell me to "relax!!" But I could tell I didn't like how thin he was making the white portion. So when he was done with the white, I checked again and asked him to make the lines thicker. He seemed annoyed and told me I needed to let them know ahead of time next time because they like their French pedis to be natural looking and thick lines were not that. I disagree, as what he had originally done looked very unnatural to me. Anyway. I did not like this place. I felt the nail tech was rude and didn't care to make sure I was happy with what I got. I would never recommend this place to anyone! Before walking in I called to check the price of a pedicure and manicure. I was told on the phone that it was $35, when I arrived the lady argued with me about price and told me that it was $45 she gave me attitude and asked "would you like to check in the book?" When I looked I told her the prices and she shrugged. She gave me attitude when she saw I had no chip on my toes and took it off incorrectly. She took the drill and drilled the entire polish off. During her drilling she got my skin and when I flinched she huffed and puffed at me... as the pedicure continued she answered her phone and never cut my cuticles. The pedicure was so poorly done that I got no polish on my nails and just asked her to clean up my hang nails and cuticles. (Which she never did) the second I walked in I noticed a smell like mold... the lady never sterilized any of her tools she used and she reused her towel. During my manicure she took the acetone sitting in the bowl on the counter and put it back into the bottle of acetone. Overall this place is disgusting and they do a terrible job. One of the worst nail experiences I have ever had. The lady was very rude as soon as we walked in the door, even though we had an appointment. She gave me two seconds to pick out a color while she stood directly behind me the entire time and made me feel rushed and uncomfortable. I had asked her to go back over the ones that still had a lot on them and she did a horrible job getting my previous dip off and now I can see it under my French manicure. My nails are uneven and I have white paint all on my skin along with old dip stuck under my nails and seeping through the French manicure. When I went back to remove them, it suddenly cost $10 (only after they saw I had money on me) My hands were completley destroyed after getting acrylics done. I'm giving this two stars because my nail tech was friendly and the finished no-chip manicure turned out nice. However, I will not be going back here as the nail tech my mother saw, in my opinion was very rude, and the place was gross. The $30 price tag for no-chip would have been fine but for how poorly kept the place was it felt like an overcharge. When I got to my nail station, there were acrylic nails on the floor and on the area where my nails were being done. When my tech got out tools (ie cuticle cutter) they didn't come from a sterilized package or solution; they were just in a drawer that he then wiped off with his fingers. The gel lights were dirty and taped together. After I washed my hands, there were no towels so my tech pulled some from a roll sitting in the floor for me to use. At the end, he asked the woman doing my mother's nails to bring him a hot towel for my hands. She tossed it against his face then threw it onto his shirt/arm where he picked it off and wrapped my hands in it. The woman doing my mom's nails told her the color she picked out was, and I quote, "ugly. Too pink. You look bad if you use this color. Get another one." So feeling a little chastised, my mom did. She also told my mother her eyebrows looked terrible and needed to be waxed so she didn't look so ugly. My mom, again feeling chastised, got her eyebrows done too. The tech may not have meant to be incredibly rude but she absolutely was. Plus, in the end, the polish she talked my mom into was so light, it may as well have been clear. I have had quite a few people recommend this place to me and after finally getting my nails done here, I can see why. I've had gel sets from here before, fills, and I just got back from my first manicure (no chip) and pedicure here. They now have a woman who works there named Stacy who speaks perfect English and is very, very friendly. Don't get me wrong, though, all of the people here speak English and are well spoken. I mention this because I know this is a concern to some people when trying to find places to get their nails done. I had a deluxe type of pedicure where they exfoliated, pumiced, and dipped my feet in hot wax. I also got a no chip manicure directly after. All of this together cost $65. The price is a little high compared to some other places, but I've also been to cheaper places and was extremely disappointed. Everyone who works there is very nice and even the men who work there are perfectionists. I also paid close attention to how they cleaned the foot baths and watched as each employee took fresh tools out of sealed packages for each guest. I tend to bring in pictures of what I want and I recommend anyone else do the same, but I am sure they'll give you results you want. The only reason I'm not giving them five stars is because of the price (the cost of fills are almost as much as a full set!). read more
