Coffee is good and pasties are solid. They also have quite a variety if you're there early enough. The breakfast sandwich was overpriced and not good. A microwaved egg patty that tasted weird on a mid roll topped with a bit of avo, arugula and some dressing. I wasn't a fan and again, it was $10+. I'd be suspect of lunch and other items. Coffee and plenty of seating is great, but could use a little bit of a makeover to add some more modern vibes. Overall, it's by my kids school, and can be convenient and coffee is good. read more

The people who work here do petty stuff it seems like on purpose. My friend's standard breakfast sandwich came out after a 20 minute (!!) wait. She asked for it to go and they gave it to her on a plate, so she asked for a to go container. They sat the container down in front of her instead of offering to box it up for her. Then, the sandwich fell on the floor out of the container and they remade it for her. But, the bun was completely burnt on both sides. I've had and witnessed a lot of bad experiences with employees from this location specifically, and they do stuff like this over and over again. It's disappointing! Update: changing my review from 2 stars to three after a random visit. The staff has greatly improved. They are all personable. However, the food? I got a chicken cesar wrap and it was the most basic bagged cesar salad with pre cut cheese and store bought crutons. If those were made in house - I am so sorry! The wrap was so loose i had to wrap it multiple times because everything kept falling out. Overall, it's a regular college coffee shop. No thrills. Tried this place out this morning! The person who took our order and made our drinks was very kind. Greeted immediately and helped me order since I changed my order last minute haha. We both got a Havana Latte, one hot one iced. Drink was great! It was pretty quiet but it was 7:30am. Looks like a great place to study or meet a friend to chat. Only thing is the iced cup is a little hard to drink out of and it kept leaking but could be user error. Overall great place!!! read more

One of my new favorite coffee shops! I had heard about this spot from a few people and finally got the chance to check it out on a Wednesday morning. Upon arriving, there were already quite a few people inside but there was still plenty of seating and we had no trouble getting a spot. There's a ton of great natural light which I love, and also plenty of outlets! I got a vietnamese iced coffee which was so good! I love strong coffee, and this one definitely did the job. It was the perfect balance of coffee + sweetness and they also have the really good crushed pebble ice. I'll definitely be back to try more drinks and to study! Great spot :) read more

However, even though the counter person was having a big laugh with a co-worker just moments before I approached the counter, she was immediately, chillingly unfriendly when taking my order, which included a toasted (very hardly toasted, if at all) $7 everything bagel with cream cheese and a small drip coffee. I like it here but they always have the door open and it is absolutely freezing. My coffee is usually good and I like studying here, but why is the door open when it is so cold outside. For how unassuming and lowkey this place is, I'm surprisingly a fan! I came to Souvenir to get some work done and was impressed by the drinks as well as the service. My matcha latte with honey-lavender syrup was reliable and strong. At first, I didn't taste any honey-lavender syrup in my drink and the barista was happy to add some more for me after I brought it up :-) While the interior could certainly use some renovation -- like some nicer furniture or some decorations -- at the very least, there's tons of tables and plenty of lighting here. For students looking to get work done, Souvenir delivers. The wifi was reliable for the most part, though it did get slower towards closing, and there's a few outlets. Relative to the other cafes for studying around Southside Berkeley, I'd rank Souvenir on the higher end! The drinks are arguably better than Strada, the amount of natural lighting here is a plus over Sodoi, and its more lowkey and homey than Romeo's. read more

The delivery of hot to-go items such as bagels take forever to get. The speed of delivery on these items can be fast so I don't know why it took 20 minutes to get just two bagels that had cream and just needed to be toasted. There weren't many patrons (they were all just working on their laptops) at the time. Just to get one bagel, it took over 15 minutes. The management here really let down its workers. Why is Sunday rush period only having one person scheduled in kitchen?? I waited 30+ minutes for a bagel order. Disappointing and I won't be coming back again. It's a shame because the atmosphere and location could really work, but understaffing and abysmal speed in the kitchen made my experience awful. read more

I've ordered the matcha latte a handful of times, and SOMETIMES it's great, but recently it's mostly been tasteless milk with a tiny bit of matcha. It's barely even green! I would strongly suggest skimping less on the ratios and making it more standardized, because I get a completely different drink depending on what barista I'm ordering it from. read more

This coffee shop is a one minute walk from my house so thought it'd be perfect place on mornings when I want something better than my Keurig. This is my second time here, and just more of the same issues. SERVICE IS TERRIBLE. The first time I ordered a house drip and a pastry and it took 10 minutes to get my coffee AFTER I asked them where it was. They then proceeded to take 5 seconds to pour out what should've been done 10 minutes ago. No apology either. This was at 7 in the morning and no line before or after me. I just returned this morning and it was a little busy. I ordered a few coffees and a sandwich. The coffees came out quickly and there began the long wait for our sandwich. After about 5 minutes of waiting, a singular sandwich came out and then we were the sole group waiting for food. It took another 25 minutes and some questioning before a sandwich came out and called our "Hobbs". We grab it and go. We open the box and it's not our sandwich, return inside and she proceeds to say she never said "Hobbs". I told her I just heard her say it and after 30 minutes of waiting for one singular word, don't think I'd mess that up along with the rest of my group hearing the same thing. She proceeded to look at me and repeat that she never said that and our actual sandwich had just came out. They made a sandwich for a lady who had ordered 5 minutes ago before ours. No apologies for the delay. No casual "we are very backed up there" which would've been a lie but better than what we got. read more

I went in excited to try their coffee and was very disappointed by the fact they essentially tried to scam me. I picked out a bag of whole beans and asked them if they could grind them for me. When they went to do so, I saw them switch out the bag I had picked for a different very old bag of beans (I picked the one I had picked because it had the freshest roast date and the rest were at least a month old). She then gave me the bag of ground beans with the old roast date, smiled and said nothing. I would have never spent so much money on coffee if it was so old and the fact they tried to do that behind my back was very disappointing. I tried the coffee when I got home and it tasted horrible. This is the best coffee shop in Berkeley!! Riley (one of the baristas) is the nicest and always makes the best coffee. I only ever come to Souvenir to get coffee. I appreciate how Riley cares about the quality of the coffee and makes sure customers are satisfied. There is lots of space to do work here and outlets + wifi. Honestly so confused as to what is going on with this Souvenir. I've been to other Souvenir locations and they're usually pretty good but I came here to study and get a snack and they literally had no food except pumpkin bread (it was 11:30 so not that late). So I got the pumpkin bread and a small drink and it was literally $10. The pumpkin bread was tiny and not good. Also, the tables are a mess like there's no good place to sit because there's no organization to the tables. I don't get how you can charge such high prices for a below-average coffee shop. Also, all of the artwork on the walls was crooked and made no sense given the style of Souvenir. I'm j so confused about what's going on. Coffee in America is such a scam I really don't understand why a latte should be more than $2 max, why can't we have nice things? read more

This Souvenir location is an alright coffee shop. I went here a few times during their soft opening weeks to get coffee and chill/work. First, the coffee tasted strong and woke me up, second the cashier/barista was friendly and got my orders right, and third, the cafe is clean and spacious. There are plenty of tables and seats here, so it's a great spot to get some work done or to chat with a friend. The only downside during the times I was here was they weren't serving food yet, but I think that will change in the future. They also had issues with the bathroom, on some days it was available for customers to use but on other days it was closed (without any signs or notice for customers). You would only find out it was closed when asking the cashier. But still a good coffee spot, it's kind of midway between the main part of Elmwood and UC Berkeley so it's pretty much the only cafe option for a few blocks. I still miss Sack's but at least it was replaced by a decent coffee shop brand that already has multiple locations. read more
