I was kinda iffy about this place after reading past reviews. I decided to give them a chance and I booked my appointment online. Booking the appt was easy and I received my confirmation right away. The day of my first appt finally came and I checked in on the kiosk as I walked in. I was quickly called to the back, my eyes were checked, and they performed my vision exam. The tech who was helping me was very friendly. I was then sent back to the front and told to wait for the doctor. A few minutes went by and I was then called back again. The doctor was friendly. I let her know that I was interested in getting contacts and prescription glasses and she sent me home with a two week trial contacts. I made a total of three visits within a month timeframe and every visit was great. The ladies working in the optical dept. were very helpful and patient. I picked up my contacts and glasses a few days ago and I am loving them both! I will definitely be back here again next year for my vision check! Thank you read more

Had annual exam for glasses and Dr Jeffery Jackso was rude. He said I was guessing at my switches between lenses which I was not, he got upset and said we will start this over because your vision got worse after the re-do, he was satisfied with HIS result. I took my elderly mother in for her appointment. This is her second time here. Front desk receptionists and the lady who works in the lens and frames area are super rude and unfriendly!! The place is not very welcoming at all. The tech did not even introduce herself to us but yet when she called the next patient after us she introduced herself very professionally. Hmm! I remember last year it wasn't a good experience for us as well so things have not changed here as far as customer service. This place is an absolute scam! I had the most challenging time getting my contact prescription filled. I was charged a $55 co-pay at the time of service and received a $200 bill after the appointment. I have never had issues with insurance covering my eye exam or visits. Pretty close to my place. Looks clean inside but pretty small lobby. So far ive been waiting for 45minutes. They triple booked the 10am slot that I had. I heard people checking in saying the same time slot. Is this normal, for an eyecare center?? Also they're very strick on face mask. They kicked out a lady with a face shield on. They offered her a mask but the lady can't wear it despite wearing a face shield already. Once it was my turn, the staff were friendly and knowledgeable. I had a torn contact stuck in my eyelid. The staff had me in same day and Dr Trinh was fabulous. All of the staff were helpful, professional and kind. Better yet I paid cash (large deductible) and was much less than I was quoted (guessing because did not need a complete exam but could have charged me the quote regardless) for an emergency appointment. The building only has a sign that says "Eye Center" nothing about Southwestern Eye Center. The waiting room is small and has very uncomfortable seating that needs replacement. The desk staff informed my wife if she needed a prescription there was a $65.00 charge. We have Aetna Medical Advantage plan for insurance with a zero co-pay. When I advised the person handling the billing she stated that the doctor visit was covered by medical the prescription was not. I informed her that we had Aetna Dental Coverage and she stated Aetna didn't have a Dental plan and needed to pay for the prescription. My wife made the payment. After getting in the car I pulled up the coverage to ensure that Southwestern was an in-network provider. I went back in and ask for the Manager. When I advised her of their error she advised me to quit pointing my finger as she was doing the same thing. He walked away and talked the female at the desk and returned to me and advised they cancelled the transaction and would process it with the insurance and we could pay it when we were billed. This office serves many seniors and have most likely have charged others that due to their lack of knowledge. My wife was referred to this office because Barnett Delaney could not get her in quick enough. Barnett Delaney never charged an improper co-pay. read more

Sadly I probably won't be coming to this location or this optometrist any longer. I was looking to get prescriptioned Oakley sunglasses. I went to see the the blonde lady that does glasses. I show her what I want, and she was immediately dismissive. She says Oakley can't do it blah blah blah and with my insurance. I told her I got a quote from LensCrafters and she immediately starts looking into it with my prescription. All of a sudden they can kind of do it? It's not like it was busy, with one person in the waiting room and no one looking at glasses. This place was in my network and they want to charge me more then lensCrafters, who is out of network for the same prescription sunglasses. I won't be coming here for my eye care any longer. Went in today and I miss Dr McDougal. Most of the eye exam was done by the tech. I was told I had to come back to get my eyes dilated because that will be billed thru my insurance and they can't do both a medical billing and vision billing on the same day. Oh really? I provide my debit card and was told it was declined. I give another card, pay the copay and then call my bank. Nothing was wrong with my debit card, the wrong expiration date was entered. The glasses section is blocked off and you have to sign in and wait to be called. Customer service here is terrible. I wish Dr McDougal didn't retire. read more

I walked in with my young daughter to pick out a pair of glasses. We already had a prescription and my daughter already had an idea of what she wanted, so we decided to walk in. Well because we didn't have an appointment and it was almost lunch time (11:35am), we were turned away since I couldn't make it back another day at the time they specified. We went to different location nearby and were taken care of immediately and only took about 10 minutes of their time. Too bad, Southwestern couldn't be bothered to make a new customer. read more

This is my first time visiting here. My wife and son use this eye practice. I don't utilize the service too often due to being gifted with fantastic vision. I have been to the eye doctor about 5 times in 47 years. Since I don't go often I had to ask what certain things are, how I needed to respond for different questions and tests, etc. Dr. Tracy was very patient, helpful and pleasant to work with. She took the extra time to fully detail anything she mentioned. I didn't feel rushed in anyway. At the end of the appt it was as always much better than 20/20. She could only go down to 15/20 testing. She recommended only to prolong not needing glasses for reading later, to maybe get some reading glasses at the minimum level offered, but only if I wanted to. My stepdaughter had an eye appointment at this establishment last month. She just started her first job so we needed to reschedule her appointment. The earliest available appointment was a whole month out so we took it. She went to her appointment today by herself because she's 16 and can now drive herself, and was turned away because she was not accompanied by an adult. Her father, an adult, made the appointment for her and she has insurance and has no copay. When we asked Yesenia on the phone if this was office policy, she stated, "Uh, yeah." We've been going to Dr McDougal for almost ten years and have continued to go even though staff has repeatedly been rude and unhelpful. We have decided not to go back after this incident. read more

Buyers Beware!!! First set of glasses came back with the wrong prescription in them. Second pair lasted a week, then I went in for an adjustment of my new frames. I thought they did a great job and left. When I got into my truck I noticed they seemed like they had finger prints on them and thought ok I'll clean them when I get home in a few minutes. Nope they're broken looks like they heated the frames and lenses up too much. I went back today and they said oh we should have them back in about 14 days. I'd also like to mention two other things for the rest of you. 1. Make sure you have a lot of free time when go in to offer glasses I must have sat there for 45 minutes while the gentleman entered everything into the computer. 2. Watch out for the hidden charges they try to slide in on your invoice. Buyer beware use caution when purchasing anything from this company. Great service! My experience with them was excellent from making my daughter's appointment, to picking up her glasses. Everyone there was kind, respectful and caring. Had a great selection of quality name brand frames to choose from and the woman that assisted us with everything was great. All of my questions were answered, including what exactly my insurance covered. My daughter's glasses were ready in less than a week and she received quite a few treats to go with our purchase, which made her very happy! Buyer beware! My husband purchased a pair of glasses here on January 3,2020. When he went to pick them up, the glasses were made incorrectly. He was told another two weeks. Went back the 2nd time and the glasses were still incorrect and wait another two weeks. Plus, I believe he was overcharged by $200. I purchased glasses from SW Eye Center in Mesa with the same insurance and the exact same additions, mine were $300 and his were $532. My frames cost more so his overall cost should have been less. We've asked for an itemized receipt and have yet to receive one, they just keep giving excuses as to why no receipt. This place is very shady and we will never purchase from them again. read more

I can't speak highly enough of Dr. Libbi Tracy and Optician Cris Caudle. I moved with Dr. Tracy when she moved practices, because she took the time to provide the best possible prescription, and I nearly cried. She not only wanted to correct my nearsightedness, but make the gas permeable lens prescription to be as comfortable for my eyes not to work so hard. When I decided to invest in updating my glasses after being 3 prescriptions behind, Cris provided stellar service, truly taking care of me. When I was having trouble with the glass lenses, Cris and Dr. Tracy reworked the math having to do with my astigmatism, changed out the lens material, and it's so perfect now. Thank you! read more

I will add my warning to the others about this Southwestern Eye Care Center in Mesa, AZ located on Gilbert Road. Less than professional with poor business systems, ie. phone may ring and they may answer and put you on hold but then hang up on you after a 15+ minutes. Very poor and even rude customer service. I paid for and received an eye exam. A month or so later I decided to purchase glasses through this location's optical dept. It took over an hour for them to do all the "paper work" through their very poor electronic system and I did not purchase frames from them; I used a pair of my own frames. Three weeks later I called them because I hadn't heard from them. They said something was not made right in the lenses, so they had to send them back. Two more weeks later I called every few days to see if they had come in and they kept saying they would call me. Mind you, their phone gauntlet made it very difficult to get through to the optical dept. Finally, after five+ weeks, I call them and what do you know, my glasses are there but no one bothered to call me. I tried seeing out of them for a month and I can't see clearly. I had a few weeks of illness. I wasn't up to the drive there and back. Now it has been several months since my eye exam and they give you 90 days. They left me a voicemail that told me that I need to get another eye exam, at my expense. I tried returning this call but no matter how long I wait on hold, they always hang up the phone without answering it. Save yourself some money and aggravation and search out a eye doctor who cares enough about the eye health and vision of his/her patients to work in a business that serves their patients with integrity and humaneness. read more

The only reason I went here was because they listed that they did vision therapy on my VSP doctor finder portal, they do not. So my visit used up my one yearly eye exam and they just referred me to another doctor that had to charge me to do another exam. Dr. Tracy is a true gem!!! She was a different practice and I was so sad that she left but I found her here with a quick google search. "I'm glad we found each other!" She said when I told her she was my doctor at the other place for the last 3 years. She a true professional and such an awesome eye doctor. She diagnosed me with an eye condition a few years back and remembered my case. I love how personable and informative she is. I can't wait to see her next year! The practice itself was roomy and I didn't feel like a was in a broom closet taking the eye tests like the hot air balloon thingy etc. They have an awesome selection of eye glass frames with every budget in mind. I just had a horrible experience at Southwestern Eye Center at Southern and Gilbert in Mesa. When I walked in, wearing a mask as I knew they required, a guy sitting at a plexiglass fort at the front door, came up to me and insisted on pointing one of those gun-type thermometers at my forehead. That was extreme enough, but then he interrogated me, asking if I had taken any fever reducing medications before I came to their office. Asking if anybody in my family or circle of friends had recently manifested any COVID-like symptoms. And asking if I had recently received any COVID test for which I was awaiting the results. He asked me all of these things out loud, standing there in the very entrance of their lobby, in front of every person in that store! I was peeved but I wanted to get my eye exam done so I brushed it off. But then one of the receptionists asked for my ID. I gave her my driver's license and went and sat down in the waiting area. The next thing I know they're handing me an iPad with all kinds of questions about my personal physician, my emergency contacts or next of kin, my physical home address and THEN repeating the same damn intrusive questions (have you taken any fever reducing medications... have you recently been tested... all of those) they had just asked me out loud in front of everybody. They wanted me to fill all of that out and sign my name to it and when I objected one of the receptionists came over to me and wanted to "help" me fill it out, acting as if I was senile and needed guidance on how to answer all of these very intrusive questions. I went ahead and filled out most of the information except for the personal contact questions I just decided was none of their business (and the receptionist helped the senile old fool go through the complicated process of skipping those entries) but she made sure I signed the iPad electronically before she gave me back my driver's license. I sat there fuming, breathing into that stupid mask and almost hyperventilating. After about a minute and a half I decided I wasn't going to take that crap, stood up and headed out the door. I told them "You know what, cancel my exam I'm getting out of here!" As I walked out the door I told them that they had pushed my anxiety level right through the ceiling and I'd never be back again. And I never will. This was the most ridiculous, over-the-top stupidity I have experienced since this whole fake pandemic started. I've been with Southwestern Eye Center for probably five years now, but I will never walk in their door again! read more

I have been here before and everyone was super nice and professional. This time I came in to pick up glasses and was told to take a seat and they would call me. Glasses were paid for. I was just picking up. In and out right? I proceeded to wait about 20 minutes. I was on the phone but super quite and respectful to everyone in the office. Mind you there was only one other customer. 2 women kept looking at me and talking to each other but never said anything to me. I started to wonder if there was something wrong? I'm so disappointed that Southwestern Eye Center in Mesa, Arizona made me see and optometrist when they received the medical records from my Ophthalmologist that retired sent them and they still made me see an Optometrist who had to verify that I had glaucoma when it was in my chart from my ophthalmologist. What a waste of my time and theirs. And I have to pay them for Kate Trinh to tell me something that my doctor sent them? I should have been told that I would not be able to see the ophthalmologist the same day after seeing the optometrist. When I made the appointment, I was told I would see both that same visit. I was not informed before I made my appointment that I would have to schedule to see an ophthalmologist at a later date. I will not be coming back to you. The reason they don't have any appointments for a month out is because so many people love this place and swear by it. Everyone there is great but especially max. He even gave me his personal cellphone number so I could text him a picture of frames I wanted him to order for me. He went above and beyond to search and find the frames for me. Dr McDougal is amazing! He was very nice and listened to any concerns I had. I loved the staff at this office and the selection of frames here. I did not feel rushed to pick the frames of my choice and the staff did a wonderful job at helping me. I also purchased prescription sunglasses here and I couldn't be happier. My boyfriend changed his mind on the frames he wanted and they helped him out to make sure he could return his old ones and could get new ones that would fit his face shape and be the color he wanted. My wife and I order new glasses and were told to check in in 2 to 3 weeks. I checked in at 3 weeks and they said mine were ready but my wife's were not and to check back in a week. Just got a voice mail that said there was a mixup and that my wife's prescription was put in my frames and mine in hers. When I called back to find out what we could do I was told that they had already sent the glasses back. I asked if we could put a rush on it and was told that they did, but McDougall does not control Spectera. I asked when I should check back with them and was told there was no need to check back and they they will call when the glasses come it. POINT ONE: I never received an apology. POINT TWO: I might end up waiting two months for my glasses. POINT THREE: How can any of this be an acceptable practice. read more

I've been a patient of Dr. McDougal and Associates for at least six or seven years now, starting when they were still in LensCrafters in the Superstition Springs Mall. Most of my exams have been done by Dr. McDougal, but I think I've had exams with all of the doctors at this point and I have never had a bad experience. Dr. McDougal is very professional and knowledgeable. He always makes an effort to ask if I have any questions and fully explain anything I don't understand. Appointments are generally very quick and efficient but I never feel rushed. The receptionists are very friendly and patient when setting appointments or reviewing insurance and billing details, both on the phone and in person, and the wait times usually aren't long, if there's a wait at all. I highly recommend them if you are looking for a new eye care provider. read more

I cannot thank McDougal Eye Center enough for the wonderful care I received for my eye issues(s). I woke up one morning with almost a total loss of vision in my right eye. I called the office and they got me in right away. Mr. Pugh was very thorough in his examinations and testing. He explained my diagnosis very thoroughly. He even took the time to refer me to a retina specialist and made sure he was a contracted provider with my insurance. Days later when I experienced redness of my other eye, once again the helpful office staff got me in right away. Dr. McDougal was also very caring and helpful.
