Horrible, unprofessional. I was scheduled for Friday (today) with dispatch "Chris" who was suppose to get back to me before today with an ETA. Waited all morning / early afternoon, no call. I called them to get a ETA. "Chris" stated he didn't have my boulder on the truck today for delivery, and I would need to reschedule for next Tuesday. This is after I took off work, hired two men to my home to lay a firm bed of soul for the boulder. Requested to speak to a SUP, and was given multiple excuses that all the SUP were unavailable and in meetings ( apparently all day) After demaning someone in higher authority call me, a clueless guy called me back from dispatch "Dave" that wasn't a SUP that had nothing better to do than argue with me on what was their disfunction scheduling, and told me the crain operator was out today. Apparently they don't get their stories straight. After well deserved chose words to "Dave" he hung up on me, in which I called back and spoke to the VP on how much this day has cost me and I could not take off another day from my job. They dropped the ball on me. The outcome was the VP stated she was sorry, and they would learn from the situation and do better and do I want to refund. lolol After purchasing 2 boulders from them in the past and planning on purchasing 2 additional boulders which would have been over $2,000 w/ crain service it's evident they don't need my money nor my business, and I plan on shopping elsewhere. read more

This is the place to find pea gravel or giant boulders. They do have a wide variety of stones and size. I read in other reviews they ask you to sign a waiver to walk around and offer a golf cart ride to view the rock and stone supply. We got niether....although I saw plenty of cart operators riding solo that just drove by us like we weren't there. Minus 1 star. We found the rock of choice, California Gold. It's a very nice color and 3/4". We needed enough to cover 600 sq ft. One of the sales crew told me I needed 6 tons or 12,000 pounds to cover properly. That sounded way overboard, so I ordered 5 tons. Didn't want to be short.....but it still seemed excessive. I was told the delivery would probably be a week out fine. Delivery cost was $145. It was a little high I thought since I brought so much rock. I got a call that same afternoon telling me they can deliver the next day...wow. ok also was told they would call me an hour or so before delivering. No call by 11 am so I call southwest and was told about 12.30pm. Well that time came and went. Called about 1pm, and the dispatcher said he would call the driver. I stayed on hold and was told 20 minutes he would be there. Thx for the hour heads up. Well it turns out I was sold twice as much rock that I needed. After I layed down my 600 feet I had only used half the rock....so at a $118 @ ton I had about $275 more rock than I needed. Minus 1 star. Luckily I have a quarter acre so i spread the balance of the rock around my back yard. read more

I priced Decomposed Granite and Black Pebbles for our landscaping project with all of the popular, top companies and found that their prices were a lot higher than SBS. The employees were very patient and helpful. I literally asked for prices on 5 different types of rock and DG. Being that they dont have a price sheet online, you have to email a quote to compare prices on each item. You can call and obtain pricing too but during busy times you can tell they get swamped. The only thing I think is excessive is that they charge for all bags, the super sack the DG comes in and the wired cage the rock comes in. I understand this but they do not offer any refund if you bring any of them back. A 1/2 CF bag of anything has a fee attached of $15.95. A Super Sack Pallet charge is $30 and there is a Pallet Charge handling fee of $15. So out of the gate you already have $61 in fees. Delivery is $160. Thats $221 without even adding any product yet. One ton of Desert Gold Stabilized DG was $81 and one ton of Black Beach Pebble 1-2 was $389. That price is $146 less for rock than other companies I got quotes from. In total SBS for everything was $781. The other company charges for one ton of rock delivered as the same total price of SBS' Rock, DG, fees and delivery charges. So all in all SBS prices are still way better even after all of their fees. That coupled with excellent customer service means I will be using SBS going forward. Their selection is HUGE. You can go there and hand pick everything and load it up in your auto too. I recommend doing all of your own product calculations as it was recommended to me to get a whole lot more than I actually needed. However, being that if you dont get enough you will have to pay all of the fees again, maybe add 15% more than what you actually need. read more

This is a great place to check out if you are needing rock material for your landscaping needs. It is convenient for us living in Fallbrook, located just off hwy 15. They also have some water features at the front available for purchase. They have a gravel sample display located at the front of the store. After signing a liability waiver you could either walk the premises or opt to use the golf carts they have available. We happen to be lucky and made it in when they had their small business discount going on. Our questions and concerns regarding delivery of the material, were answered by employee Michael. Michael also took us on the golf cart when we failed to locate one of the materials on our own. He gave tips and suggestion which were very helpful. Michael was very knowledgeable and if he wasn't able to answer our question he called into the office to get the answer. The delivery was scheduled, they called ahead of time to let us know that they were on the way. Shortly after the call they were unloading the material in our backyard. So, from the gals in the office to the delivery of the material the customer service was top notch. We were very pleased with the entire process and would definitely use them in the future. read more

These guys are crooks! Find a small business instead. They delivered rocks we did not exactly chose, and on top of that they charged us extra for delivering those rocks. The driver explained to me that he would bill the company for the extra time it took him to deliver the rocks, and instead the company billed us for it. And once again, it's in the small print somewhere where the customer can't easily find. Another legal way crooks get away with taking your money. Make sure you are explicit of your location, so there are no surprises when they deliver, and also teach them how to use technology, so the the driver does not rely on the Thoma's Guide from the 70's. read more

Southwest Boulder & Stone is the best!! Not only did they have an incredible selection of gorgeous boulders, but their team at the Fullerton location was super helpful, friendly and supportive. Joe repeatedly stopped what he was doing to LITERALLY dig through a pile of boulders to find the perfect shape and color we wanted. Waving off my feeble attempts to deadlift the stones, he brought over a tiny tractor and excavated the area until we found the 1, 2, 3... SIX perfect boulders for our front yard. AMAZING! Delivery was handled in the same manner with our driver, Steve, promptly calling us at 0730, correctly estimating the drive and arriving on time. Communication was 5-stars... which was actually the least impressive part of his service. Steve was a Hogwarts wizard the way he maneuvered the MASSIVE crane - coming within centimeters of our house to perfectly place each boulder. Full transparency, each time the crane got close my heart stopped beating, but in the end, not a single piece of my house, yard or fence was touched - MAGIC!! I cannot recommend SWB enough - two neighbors have already reached out asking about our striking new lawn icons and I cannot wait to buy some more boulders for our property!! Amazing store and excellent customer service! We found Southwest Boulder when we were doing some upgrades for our yard. Escondido location was great when I told them what I was looking for. Valeria and Lupe were on the ball and sent me home with samples. Made my life easy! I also found Fallbrook, the Disneyland of outdoor materials! This huge wonderland could host weddings! It's so nicely decorated and shows many products all over their property. Seeing it all on the ground was so helpful. You use their golf carts to go look around! Their friendly staff is so willing to help; Sophia, Michael, and Luke just to name a few. Everyone that I have encountered at SW has been great. Glad I found this place. This used to be one of my favorite places to shop and visit for ideas. However, after our experience with this company today, I will take my business elsewhere. My husband and I came into the office and spoke to a sales person who I would characterize as being a very unfriendly person almost immediately. We walked in and out of the office twice talking about ponds and pricing pebbles before we went out to the yard for slabs. No mention of masks. When we returned from yard, ready to check out, my husband was asked to wear a mask inside but they offered to accommodate us outside of the office - and we were fine with that. However, instead of the salesperson coming out to finalize our order, the manager came outside to confront me about my previous interactions with the salesperson who actually complained about me! She totally lied to the manger about something I did not say and told her we refused to wear masks earlier (check your cameras) -I couldn't believe it since the salesperson and I exchanged NO words unrelated to stone. I will note that it was also very embarrassing to be confronted right outside the office door while other (unmasked) customers were present. The manager was definitely not interested in anything I had to say in defense. I don't know what she was trying to do - certainly not trying to be constructive or helpful. We felt like victims of a two pronged attack, first by salesperson followed up by manager and it was clear- they did not want to do business with us. This is obviously a top down problem as evidenced by the managers inappropriate confrontational interrogation of me. Does this bad business culture go all the way up to the owners? I feel bad for other employees since they have to deal with people like this in the workplace. Ultimately, there was ZERO attempt to try to preserve us as customers, in fact, it was the opposite. A shame since we are just getting started on some major projects and now we're driving to San Marcos/Vista for our stone needs. read more

Last week, Dennis came to our house in a HUGE truck and did a spectacular job unloading a pretty large load of boulders. I was really impressed! Yesterday, my husband and I drove all the way up to Rainbow to check out some DG & crushed rock in person. Wow...what a selection! And all the employees we interacted with were very nice & helpful. I ordered 8 tons of flagstone and paid for the largest pieces for maximum surface coverage. There are several grades, from small pieces to thhe largest pieces, and I agreed to pay more for the largest and thickest ones. The load arrived on four pallets packed at about four feet each, layer upon layer of flagstone. The top layers looked fine so I signed-off on the order when it was delivered, but after opening each sealed pallet, I discovered that the bottom layers were crushed rubble, and many were not the thick flagstone I needed. Most of the large pieces on the bottom of the pallet were cracked or small pieces. I phoned to offer my feedback and was told that their product is subject to breakage so nothing could be done after the sale. Southwest Boulder & Stone's packaging and shipping system for flagstone is poor quality, so if you care about getting large flagstone, go elsewhere. read more

Spend your hard earned money anywhere but here! Bad management! We were excited to visit Southwest Boulder because they came highly recommended by our neighbors. After walking around for a short time we went into the office to ask a few questions and place our order but the woman at the desk quickly became angry and literally yelled at us because we second guessed her estimate for the amount of rocks we will need for our project. My wife and I had looked at one another and laughed because we grossly underestimated what we needed and the woman at the desk lost her temper, accused us of laughing at her? We asked for a manager to help us but she said she was the Manager "Lupe" and knows what she's talking about and there was no one else to talk to. We were stunned because our whole experience up to that point was perfect. The angry, nasty reaction was offensive and we felt attacked so we decided to leave. We felt gutted. Rock and gravel are too expensive to accept this kind of treatment so avoid Southwest Boulder because if you have a problem after spending thousands of dollars this is the person who is supposed to help you. read more

I needed some big boulders (5-6ft) for the front of my house. Found this place online and gave them a call. They quoted some fair prices for what I was looking for, so I decide to make the hour drive to pick out some boulders. The smoke gray boulders are what I settled on and they measured and gave me a quote. The quote had larger measurements than what I saw with the employee who showed me around, so I requested a remeasure. This took another half hour, but the measurements all were corrected (all three boulders reduced by a half foot) and the prices reduced accordingly. Mistakes happen I guess. The crane delivery was 2 hours late, but the knuckle crane operator placed the 5,000lbs boulders with laser precision. I complained to the dispatch manager (Randy) about the waiting without proper notification (I had pressing matters at work) and Randy made things right. Overall, I'm happy with the service and would recommend them to anyone looking for an all-in-one shop for boulders. read more

On 5/28/2014 I purchased #1200 of pebbles for landscaping. I also ordered #40 of tumbled glass for accent. I was told that there was no glass in stock but it would be available in 2-3 days and that I would get a call when the order was in. I received no call and when my husband stopped by to check on the order he was told that it would be a lot more expensive that the original quote and that it was a specialty order item. I now have a half way finished landscape and I am very unhappy. Will never go back. read more

I visited few times to see what they have to fit my landscape projects. The staff were not friendly and not interested to answer your questions.. Last weekend I ordered some materials after narrowed down my selection. On Monday I decided to check price around me with other suppliers, I was so shocked to find out SWB charged a lot more than theirs competitors! They charged me over $400 for same material of a full truck load over their competitors. Their explanation was their cost was more than other companies. Always check price with other companies especially if you are doing large orders. Update: I found out they are willing to negotiate on price if you have large orders and also depending on who is your salesman is. Also some of the material are better price than their competitors.
