I am so happy I did. 5 star service from beginning to end. They provide a video of issues before starting work in your car. They even provided Uber transportation to the airport for me to pick up a rental since all their rentals were out. They explained everything from beginning to end, gave me heads up on upcoming service, and prioritized repairs so I could make informed decisions. I am going to start and hope I don't have to give a star cause not deserving. I took my 2018 smart car here because I at the time couldn't find anyone to work on it near my home. It would not accept a charge so I called and talked to Justin and he said bring it in and they would look at it. I informed him at that time I had a 3rd party warranty on the vehicle and he said they would deal with it. He called and informed me that he had to run a diagnostic on it and said warranty company would not cover the charges only parts and labor lie number one . Went on to tell me it would be an ungodly amount per hrs. And would be around 750.00 I said OK not realizing he has not actually talked to them. Didn't hear back from him so finally after a week I called concerned I was going to pay more for the diagnosis he informed me he would do it for 750 but he wasn't able to figure it out and felt it personally needed to know. I said ok didn't hear back for probably another week to him telling me I needed hv charge cable and hv batteries he wasn't able to do it but referred me to someone else to the tune $20,000 or higher. Said I would come get the vehicle what was owed he stated $930.00 was not happy but wasn't leaving the vehicle either. So went got the vehicle ended up taking it to a guy close to home good guy he told me that my high voltage charge port was cut and missing a fuse and warranty company voided my warranty and could not be fixed had to buy another cable$1200.00 so I call Justin a real winner he admitted to cutting the cable without consent and said it was necessary for the diagnostic $930 ago and said he didn't ​feel any obligations to make it right was totally comfortable with what he had done and said he was stepping away and not going to have any more conversation about it i could talk to the manager which would be better thought referred me to Janet or something I ask her if she could find a cable good or bad just wanted warranty company to cover it she said I quote "at the end of the day we are not replacing the cable" in was appalled being in a family that owns a business i cant imagine being around long. I found the service very reliable and fairly priced compared to other shops. I have used this shop for several years and would normally give them 5 STARS; however, I recently had significant work done on my 2001 Mercedes SLK to get it up to standards. I did send a comment to Southwest Auto to hope to get some closure on this, but not having heard anything, I need to warn other consumers. Granted my car is older, but it only has 77,000 miles on it. After picking up the car I noticed 2 sections of my console were damaged (really noticeable). I inquired what happened and the service technician told me it was an old car and things get brittle. I get this, but they could have told me that if they do this service there might be damage during repairs or if there was damage, they could have owned up to it. I asked what could be done to fix the console and they suggested I buy double sided tape. If you broke it could you provide the tape? To leave the customer to find the damage leads me to think they were trying to hide it, like maybe I wouldn't notice? This event just goes fall below what I would consider good, ethical customer service. One week after I picked up the car, the Check Engine light is now on. After $11,000 worth of work, you would think all would be fixed. read more

Brought my truck in for an oil change and squeaky brakes they charge me $150 and did a visual inspection and told me they could clean the breaks but no guarantee that would fix it. For $150 they should have at least done that, not just told be this was there recommendation. I told them when I dropped off the truck I had just replaced the rotters and pads. The pads didn't come with new clips so I reused the old ones trying to give them all the info on the brakes. They had my truck for two days and billed me almost 400$ for badicslly just an oil change. I removed the brakes several weeks later and found one of the clips that holds the pad in place had broke. It would have been nice if the 150$ they charge me would have included an actual inspection by removing the brakes and finding the problem. I will not be bringing any of my vehicles back. This isn't the first time they have done this, made excuses of why they can't fix things but bill anyway $150 to tell me the brakes need to be clean isn't a diagnosis. read more

If I could give Southwest Auto 6 stars I would. After getting a misdiagnosis from Park Place Volvo on my 2012 XC60 and a quote of $13,000 to replace the engine, I had my car towed to Southwest Auto for a 2nd opinion. Within 48 hours my car was accurately diagnosed and repaired for less than $3000. While that's still a chunk of change, I've never been so happy to pull out my credit card. Park Place's loss is Southwest Auto's gain as I will now be a loyal customer there. Jon and everyone else I spoke to at Southwest Auto could not have been nicer throughout. They were recommended to me by another Volvo owner, so I am passing along the recommendation to all the Volvo owners I know. They even left me a box of Girl Scout cookies with a thank you for your business note. Park Place Volvo could take a lesson from Southwest Auto. So glad I found them. I took my Mercedes to this facility after reading all the reviews with high hopes.And I thought the days of when a mechanic took advantage of a woman, was something that used to happened long ago. Not now,not in 2018. I expected as a women, I would be treated fairly and with respect. But this store owner took it to a whole another level.Not only did he take my money for repairs he didn't have to make,700$ worth.Then he decided to verbally accost me and dropped the f**bomb all over the place.And to top it off, he then stepped into my personal space.He was so close that I could feel the hairs of his beard on my face.Something tells me we haven't progressed in that arena at all,what right did he have? I simply wanted an explanation as to why he would repair the rear rotors on my vehicle and not the front. It turns out that the front rotors were my problem all along,from the time I took to him and explained my delema.The dealership confirmed it. I definitely do not recommend this shop to anyone,beware! Especially if you are a woman.And for all you men out there ,who love your wife's, sisters and daughters please don't expose them to this kind of treatment and abuse. First off, I probably should gave guessed that by taking my car in a few years ago and having them work on it and telling me that I needed a new radiator for my Volvo! Well, guess what,my radiator after almost 3 years is still in working order! I was suppose to take my car in this week to have them check out my front wheel which is making a humming sound. It has been 3 days ,and I have not heard back from them! I needed a loaner car which I ask for for one week ago, but basically I got blown off! I don't know what is going on over there, but really,you treat a customer like that! That is total bullshit in my book! So, I called up Southwest Auto and got the same service for $246.75, and I got to experience their fantastic customer service. Took my 2007 Saab 95 there in 2016 for my Transmisson problems, $2000 later still not fixed properly, Jan 2017 had a problem with a radiator leak cost $600. July 2017 had to take it back to them for the same problem, was charged an additional $300 because it was a different hose that wasn't apart of the original repair, so not under warranty, picked my car up, drove it home, and radiator fluid poured out of my car all over my garage floor, called them back, and was told that it sounded like it may be a busted head gasket. NOT!!! They never fix the problem, only take your money, and then say it is something else wrong with your car when you tell them that they didn't fix the problem that you already paid them for. They did a great job on my S550. The repair can be an extremely expensive one, but they did not try to BS me into anything that was not necessary. But after paying, I saw on the bill they used some BG engine oil, which I never heard of, and couldn't find for sale anywhere. My husband and I came by here the other day to look at a used VW GLI. The owner was nice but exceptionally passive and seemed indifferent about our presence or interest in the car. Upon taking the GLI for a test drive, we discovered a major mechanical flaw on deceleration (something you think one of their mechanics would have noticed when it was checked). It's a classic transmission issue in those cars, but very fixable. When we took it back and explained the concern, they took little interest (owner and mechanic included) and despite us still wanting to purchase the car, didn't seem to be willing to drop the price or fix the issue. It would make sense to me that a business as tiny as theirs would want to work hard to help their customers out - or at least acknowledge the problem and agree to do something about it. Whether that be for us or someone else. Needless to say, we left, didn't buy the car and unfortunately I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. read more

I just got my Saab a month ago and when I brought it in to them I was getting a check up on it I paid the regular price of 115$ to get a diagnosis and when I did they told me they would require more time approximately 2 and a half hours I thought that's all it was gonna take I set up my appointment but I wasn't able to make it that day cause of my car so I dropped it off that same day and they were closed this was July 4th weekend and if I didn't call them everyday they would've taken longer than a week to look at my car and then charge me max price for their service moral of the story please look at other places because this one takes their time and they like to tax you for that read more

I had to have my car towed off the side of the road after getting a message about needing an urgent transmission service. They were quickly able to get to my car and gave me options that they thought would keep me from needing a new transmission. They were very communicative and helped me go through my insurance. I also appreciated they sent me cookies after I got my car back! Overall I was very pleased and will use them for routine maintenance on my 2009 Volvo S40. read more

Great customer service on my VW Jetta. Truly a family business. If you call in advance, you can even arrange a rental car while yours is being repaired. They explain the repairs clearly, and I trust their recommendations. The only drawback is that they are not open weekends, so you have to be able to get there Mon-Fri for service. read more

I brought my Saab in because it was draining the battery over night. When I made the appointment I was told it would take a day to hook it up and see what the problem was and that I would receive a call the next day with an update. No one called after the first or second day my car was in the shop. They had my car for almost two weeks and told me they confirmed it was a drain on the battery but that they couldn't find where it was coming from because the car had stopped draining the battery. They eventually told me that they couldn't do anything and that I could pick my car up. Thankfully they didn't charge me for not fixing my car. I picked the vehicle up the next morning and that night the battery was dead again. They kept my car for two weeks and Randy was not honest with me about them not knowing what was going on or how to fix it. I don't even know if they really worked on it. They did give it a nice scratch down the back seat driver side door. I was hopeful about using them because of a reference from French's, but I am very frustrated with the customer service and lack of honesty during the process. If you have a Saab take it to someone else. read more

Deceived, disappointed, done here. After moving was looking for a new repair shop. this ain't it. I do NOT schedule an appointment for "when [they] can get to it" so they bump me BEYOND the quoted "day or two" INCREDULOUSLY BEFORE I EVEN GET A DIAGNOSIS - MUCH LOSS A REPAIR. NO REASON/excuse PROVIDED! Nor apology. Just some $15 rental car credit while the car was costing $34/day AND the bill was no bargain. For what was done maybe they offset it here? Whatever, it gets worse when there's then a claim that my not cheap K&N air filter has a tear - problem, I just cleaned it before service as I'd done a few things to see if it solved things. Reason for doubt: 1.) I neither saw the tear (and was pretty much on top of it with cleaning). 2.) They replaced the heat shield screws w/ non-factory. Not a biggie, but when the filter is a bugger to get to someone losing difficult to reach screws would fit a more likely type to tear the filter in the process. Meanwhile eating up a rental car fee when I could have had a loaner HAD THEY BEEN TRUTHFUL IN THEIR ESTIMATE (loaner was expected to be available by the time they ended up getting to it 5 days later)! "Fair" is covering what their errors cost me - and I don't know how they can refute that - I simply would not have brought it in, nor incurred rental car expense, if I'd been told they couldn't get to it until later. Clearly they bumped me to squeeze in other car(s). Or how about being told I'd get a call with an estimate FALSELY about 3 to 5 times? And when I think about it it gets worse - I did not get the quote/problem UNTIL I CALLED the afternoon it was done. So if I was later it would have been a full week for a '1 or 2 day' repair? WTHeck didn't the mechanic or someone finally call? When I told owner/mg'r I just got "hard to believe" - what's hard to believe is WHY I HAD TO GO TO THIS, AND EVEN CLEAR TO HIM WHEN HE HAD TO HUNT UP WHAT NEEDS TO BE FIXED. Seems to be a pattern here. Believe I've got filter tear fixed, but the tripled repair time and ZIP for excuse or apology, combined with a no bargain cost repair adds up to an unpleasant untrustworthy experience. I'm NOT the one who was 4 days late - why am I the one out without even an apology? read more

If I could give 10 stars I would. I have been doing business with Jon and Maryjane Howes since 1989. They are my "go to" people for anything "car". Above and Beyond is the best phrase I can come up with to describe their service and attention. If they can't do it, they figure out how. They are always friendly, helpful, interested, competent and FAIR! I have bought 4 cars from them over the years (2 Saabs and 2 Volvos) and they have serviced them all expertly. The sad news is that I have recently moved to Virginia and have had to leave them. Yet...Jon was able to refer me to a personal friend doing the same work here in Springfield - so the service continues.....I can't say enough good things about them and all the employees - their daughter Julianna, techs Jerry and Rick - all friendly, expert, and reliable. Received a flyer in the mail so I decided to try them for service on my Mini. Called and made an appointment for 8am drop off on Friday. Dropped off the car at the promised time and their computer was slow/out so left my key and phone number with a guy behind the counter who told me they close at 6pm and will reopen in Monday but there should be no problem getting the car done before 6. I went about my day but no call or status from them so I called them at 3a and a woman who answered says that there is nothing on the worksheet and as soon as she hears from the mechanic they will call me. By 5:30 still nothing so again another call. A guy answers this time and says "hmmm, I can't find your car on the list... Oh wait, here it is... Something about a leaking thermostat, but hmmmm this is odd.. Oh, can I call you bak in a few minutes? Let check what's going on.." Well, this is now 30 minutes before they close for the weekend and I am going out of town on Monday and my daughter needs a car. No return call at 5:50 so I jump in wife's car and head over there (fortunately the are only 10 minutes away). I drive up and the already had the garage door closed and was in the process of closing up the office. I find the guy who I talked to and he says "oh, this is real strange, you have a leak in the thermostat housing. Follow me". No explanation as to why he didn't call me back. So I say "What? Why didn't anyone call me??? You had all day!" Well, we go back into their shop and amongst maybe about 20 cars in there, sits the Mini with hood up and various hoses and bolts strewn about. Now, there is no one around, they can't give me a loaner car for my under-25 daughter, hadn't given me a repair quote, and I can't drive the car out of there. The guy promises to get his mechanic out on Saturday and give me the car back then. So I go home and get a call an hour later to pick the car up- it's been put together. So finally at 6:30 I gems key from their lock box and drive back home. No thank you Southwest, I will go back to the dealer for service. read more

I found Southwest Auto via an online search for a shop that reliably and reasonably services Volkswagens. I was very impressed with their website. I submitted an inquiry thru their online tool about getting my headlights replaced. I was rewarded with prompt friendly service by response to email as well as when I called into the shop. They were professional and friendly. I had my son to take my car in for the work I needed done. They were fast and thorough. The service technician called me with all the work he had performed as well as my total price which was the best news of all. The dealership would have charged me well over $300 and would not have done nearly the work in the time or for what Southwest Auto charged me. They charged me less than a third of dealership price!!!!! I was so pleased and I am so happy to have found them.
