I like the fact I can have two carry ons, so I rarely need to check any luggage in. I still have to get use to not having assigned seats. It's not that much of a big deal. But it can be, if you are traveling with friends and family. Cause if you don't check in as soon as check ins are a available. You can end up boarding much later than you want, and by then all the good seats are gone. read more

We had an exceptional experience at Southwest on our way home from Florida and we would like to share it with you. We lost our keys on the way to Florida somewhere in the airport. We knew they were in the airport because we have an app called Tile, which allows you to see where your keys are. When we landed, we saw Kerri Ann at the Southwest counter where we got off the plane. We told her our situation and she said she thought our keys were in the preferred lot office. She called the office but the gentleman that answered the phone said there were no keys matching the description but Kerri Ann decided that we should go look anyway. She was almost positive that they were there. She got one of her associates to to get our luggage and hold it so that we wouldn't have to bring that along with us to the office. Upon arrival at the office, we pressed the app and the keys made a noise. Kerri Ann was 100% correct! We found our keys! We then proceeded to the car and went back to the airport to the Southwest pickup area and there was Kerri Ann waiting with all our luggage! She went above and beyond what was expected! So thankful we met Kerri Ann or we probably wouldn't have found our keys! read more

And here we go again. This time I can't even think of one polite attendant on either of the two flights taken from NYC to Buffalo. And the cleanliness factor just may have gotten worse. The amount of spilled coffee and empty wrappers just at my spot was almost impressive. It's like going to that one restaurant where the staff is intentionally rude to you except you don't get actual food or laughs out of it. The first flight was really short and the attendant was LITERALLY throwing the snacks to each person and went on the speaker to tell everyone to "guzzle" their drinks because they were coming back for garbage and "everything that we gave you must go get into the garbage immediately". Disclaimer-we only took this terrible flight because it was the only option to get us home on that date. read more

An a-ok waiting area in the Buffalo airport. There are several gates that service Southwest flight and they share an area. It's a smaller airport and very easy to get through. Once on the others you'll want to know that locations are not open late or super early, so if you want a snack, bring it with you!! The seating area was small but fit the need. There were not chargers that I saw, but I wasn't too aggressively looking for any either. Overall: B Solid B gate area. A ok, nothing over the top or awful! read more

I have been a faithful customer, but I had a bad experience. I'm presently spending the night at the airport. Southwest sent me a notification that my flight had been delayed by two hours. I checked my phone throughout the day and the delay was still being reported on the app. I DID NOT RECEIVE a notification that the time had changed yet again back closer to the original departure time, so I missed the flight. I was told I should have read the fine print that states that you should be at the airport at the original departure time regardless. They always make a big deal about helping their clients with feel good stories in their magazine. However, their goodwill did not come my way. I did not feel the. "love". I asked if they could get me on the two other flights departing that night and was met with a snort and a terse, "That would be like giving you a free ticket." I tried to get a room at the airport hotel. No availability. I'm at an overseas location and didn't want to go through the hassle and uncertainty of trying to find something in town, so here I am! My back is killing me. I'm not the kind to complain and I don't ever even do reviews, but this was a big disappointment. Southwest don't change departure times and then fail to inform your clients of further changes. Bad service! read more

Some call it a Greyhound bus in the sky. I call it fabulous! Seating and surroundings may not be as spiffy as the higher cost airlines, but I don't need all the bells and whistles. SW flights get you where you need to go, and do it just fine. The seating, hot spots for your computer laptop use is great and you don't need full meals for high cost. You can bring your airport food on board, they don't mind. You can still check in 2 bags for free, unlike other airlines. There is no extra cost for choosing aisle or window versus middle seat, either. What about the "no change fee, only a fare difference applies"? No other airline that I know of has these perks. I've flown to California many times and had perfect connections and arrival time. I've even flown to Aruba with SW Vacations, and had a great experience. That was my first and only non-domestic flight. I'm sure I'll book another sunny destination vacation with SW again. They hook you up with a package- airfare, hotel, and car rental at some really nice properties. Makes it easy for you. Maybe once, and that was slightly remote, one air hostess was rude. Otherwise, I've only experienced courteous, efficient and oh so "SW-friendly" behavior from all SW personnel. They make flying fun. You know air travel these days can be tedious with all the regulations. They try to make up for that hassle and put you at ease. I'd rather hear a corny joke by a cheery air hostess than be treated like a number by a grouchy worker who who looks like she/he hates their job. I only fly SW for domestic travel as much as possible. I have the SW Rapids Rewards Visa credit card. Due to my (excess... shh keep that a secret) spending I accumulate travel points very fast! I get a free round trip domestic trip at least once a year. I really have no complaints to offer. I'd love to work for SW in another lifetime! read more

I am very disappointed in the lack of public safety at the Sacramento boarding area of Southwest. While balloons are festive and draw attention, there are many other ways to do so in a much safe manner. This is equivalent to asking a person with peanut allergy to tour a peanut factory, very disappointed to see public safety at risk, including my own. read more

Southwest Airlines truly is the airline with a heart. I had a flight booked for mid March, and my grandson became very ill and my daughter asked me to come two weeks earlier. I called Southwest to see if I could be booked on a flight as soon as possible, explaining that my daughter's baby was seriously ill. The representative was so kind and helpful. She booked me on a flight that day, and waived the $300 additional cost to fly that day. This is the kind of service that keeps people coming back. I have been a Southwest customer ever since! The flight attendant Rasheeda on flight 5540 from midway to buffalo was absolutely horrible when it came to customer service. I don't know if she was having a bad day or what but she kept giving the ugliest looks to my family and I. I accidentally dropped my empty cup and it rolled under the seat. I didn't want to get up and retrieve it as the fasten seat belt sign was on. I looked up to see her giving me the death stare for a straight 5 minutes. I was like there's no way she's looking at me like that for something that small. It was confirmed, however, when she came around to collect trash and asked me if I planned to get the cup off the floor that I dropped -__- I'm sorry but I obviously dropped it on accident and my intentions were to pick it up after we landed. We always fly southwest! The airfare is reasonable, and the staff are usually friendly and helpful. They no longer serve peanuts, but their snacks are manufactured in a facility that processes peanuts, so for our family, we still have to be careful. You can bring 2 carryons, and can check 2 bags. We always gate check my daughter's stroller too. They have an inflight app you can access from your phone to track flight progress, and even watch movies or shows. I would definitely recommend flying this airline! read more

I gotta love Southwest Airlines: not only did the pilot pull off a masterful landing in strong head winds, the gangplank tunnel leaving the plane was decked out for Halloween, with "scary" wallpaper and cobwebs overhead. The customer service desk is pictured here. And elsewhere in the SW terminal, they had rows of old fashioned, wooden rocking chairs - next to the normal airport institutional seating - just cause rocking chairs comfort people and make them smile. I'm very dissatisfied with Southwest! These are trying times and my families cruise (22people) was canceled! However, the expiration date on our airfare expires in May 2021. which does not even give us a year to use them. We booked our cruise for November 2021. The policy Southwest has an affect is not one that I would expect for a large company that would expect people to return. I am very dissatisfied and will from now on people here with another airline. This was my first Southwest flight. I'm usually on Delta, but with their outrageous baggage fees, I figured I'd check out these guys. The rates are very close for nonstop to Orlando from Buffalo, NY but the SW departure time was more in line with when I wanted to leave. So the trade-off that I see for free checked baggage is that there are no seat assignments. You get what you get. I flew solo this time so I really didn't care. I did get to grab the last aisle seat in the very last row. So that was a bonus especially because I just consumed two huge cups of coffee waiting for the flight and I used the bathroom twice. Lol. Whilst on the tarmac, the flight attendant was searching for someone to give up their seats so that a mom and child could sit together. Eager hands flew into the air which I thought was pretty cool. The biggest reason I would fly again is this. The flight attendants went out of their way to congratulate a newly engaged couple. They announced it over the loud speaker for all to hear and gave them a bottle of Moet. She said "But don't open it on the flight though" followed with a sly wink-wink. So yeah.. Great AND hilarious experience. The male flight attendant acted out how to put the seatbelt on, use the breathing mask, etc. The whole plane was laughing, everyone engaged. It was the first time I paid attention to one of those speeches!! The service was extremely friendly, funny, and quick as well. There was a whole soccer team on the plane- a bunch of young boys. You can pick your seating with southwest but they asked the whole team to sit in the back and informed everyone [while still in the airport] about the team. They made it simple for everyone and made sure the team wouldn't distract the pleasant experience of the flight. read more

Interesting experience on Southwest Airlines. Our plane required a computer update, sounds easy enough, but after an hour and half, on the plane at the gate we were told we would be deplaning, and getting on another flight. What made this fiasco into a 5 star review you ask??? Tahnee Putman, our flight attendant. Given an uncontrollable situation, all passengers were upset, bored, mad... but Tanhnee Putman and her crew, Jamie Polk, and Ann Marie Ferrel...with big smiles the whole time, kept us informed, and entertained. She got most everyone engaged in a trivia game, gave out drink tickets as the prize!!! Kept everyone safe and calm. Then she and the crew switched us all to another plane( boarding passes were printed and available at a nearby gate,) when we took off 2 hours late, the smile never failed, she very professionally gave 5 star beverage service. I reviewed Southwest Airlines in the past, it made 2 stars, however one woman, with the right attitude, and some amazing people skills has thoroughly changed my mind. Thanks Tahnee you made a huge difference and a lasting impression on this seasoned flyer. BTW, this was my first flight with my dog, she didn't know the difference!!! Two in flight reviews in the same day - wow! Southwest does things differently and some like it some do not. But here's the differences. Instead of being assigned a seat - you are given a boarding pass with your position of boarding. There are letters of A-B-C and maybe D - and there are numbers 1-60. If you get boarding pass of A-1 you are first to board and get to pick any seat on the plan. If you get C-60 you are about the last person to board and get to pick whatever seat is left - chances are it will be a middle seat! Other airlines assign you a seat. With Southwest - there is no real upgrade and there are no real meals or first class no matter how long the flight is. With other airlines you normally can get meals - though they may not be the best - they offer more then little bags of peanuts, crackers and cookies. Southwest flight attendants are also normally very cheerful and have humor - other airlines attendants can almost make you feel like you are a burden instead of a consumer. Is Southwest my airline of choice - nope - I prefer to drive because I like control. But sometimes you have to give up a little control to get where you want to go today - and in those cases - this airline isn't that bad. Plus - it's one of the cheapest ways to fly - remember - you get what you pay for! read more

I've now flown enough with Southwest to make it to their coveted A-List. I no longer have to worry about checking in at the 24th hour before my flight because they do it for me. A Southwest airplane is really just a giant bus with wings. A happy bus. A happy flying bus that requires a full body search to get onto. Regardless of the pains we all encounter when flying, Southwest is actually a pleasure to use. Especially in comparison to any other airline. The employees have always had a human personality. Other airlines hire robots that are trained to say "I'm sorry, there's nothing I can do". I don't think a Southwest employee has ever said that to me. TIP: If you get stuck in the C seating line-up, face it, you're not getting an aisle or window seat. Here are your best two options: 1) You can make quick friends with someone in the A boarding lineup and ask them to put something on a window or aisle seat to hold it for you. Couples are good for this as they will already be sitting in the window or aisle and the middle. 2) Go ahead and grab one of the first middle seats you can get. That's all that is left on the plane and you might as well sit up toward the front. Opt for one between two women, as their shoulders are less wide than men's and they tend to smell better : ) If you're not travelling alone... Check in online 24 hours in advance next time... sorry but, you're not sitting with your companion. Last TIP: With Southwest, sign up for their rewards program. It pays off quick. I know some people give SW a bad rap and I fly all the time. Of all the airlines I think they have the best flight attendants and the best luggage policy. And frankly even if I have been canceled a couple of times or delayed, I have had worse happen with other airlines and less attentive service once I call the airline. Overall I like SW for their convenience and big planes. I cannot stand those tinier planes American will put me on on shorter flights! And their staff has a good sense of humor. read more

My favorite airline! Finally, an airline that at least TRIES to make flying fun. I swear, they hire their flight attendants based on their comedic abilities. On my last flights to and from Vegas I was cracking up each and every flight!!! These people act like they genuinely enjoy their job and want to make flying on a damn plane as fun and painless as possible. They also have wi-fi on the planes for only $5, which is great for longer flights (Netflix on the iPad, obviously). I flew United recently and they didn't have this - I don't know if wi-fi is going above and beyond what is expected or if it is the norm nowadays. But either way, go Southwest!! read more

Here's a tip: If you are an A, go all the way to the last few rows of the plane, especially if your flight isn't fully booked, and you'll most likely get a row of seats to yourself. We traveled home early on Saturday and had the most pleasant flying experience. Not one of our 3 flights was fully booked so my mom and I each got our own row (since we were letter A all day but walked to the back of the plane and had great seat options). Saturday travel is a great idea is you're not a huge fan of the nutty hustle and bustle during the week (Sundays, Mondays, and Thursdays are the busiest flight travel days). I am Southwest's most recent biggest fan! I haven't flown SW in over a decade. A couple months ago, I found inexpensive flights to Denver and booked them. These flights were cheaper than the flights I had found the last time I traveled there on cheapoair.com and that was a totally inconvenient experience. I LOVE that they have free bag check. This flying experience was one of the best I've ever had. I prefer to check my bag as opposed to hauling it through the airports and on the planes and it being a general nuisance. On this particular trip, I had a shoulder injury and there was no way in hell that I was going to haul my heavy bag around. Traveling without my heavy carry-on in tow was the best thing ever. I felt less stressed that i didn't have to carry it and only had my light cross body purse to deal with. It was awesome! The flight staff on each flight were great too. And I'm also a big fan of AirTran, their newest partner. These have been my favorite airlines to fly. I don't think I will ever fly with any of the typical Delta/US Air flights again. They all suck. When we arrived in Buffalo on Tuesday for our wedding in Geneva, NY on Saturday, we were missing 2 of our 4 bags. When Sheila heard that we were getting married, she immediately did all she could to get us our luggage as soon as possible. Geneva is outside of the driving radius for luggage from Buffalo, but Sheila worked with her supervisor and arranged to have our luggage driven to us the very next morning at no charge. My most recent experience with Southwest was a nightmare. The only reason I give it two stars is because the flight attendants are all nice and personable, and the drink and snack service is really great. But now for the not so great... Before checking in our bags, we asked the front desk if they have any special boxes for alcohol bottles. We figured this was the right thing to do because other airlines I have flown with have some collapsable cardboard boxes that make transportation easier. The lady behind the counter informed us that we can pay $5 for a seal-proof container that fits two bottles. My travel buddy thanked her and said he would opt-out, because they were secured in plastic bags and wrapped with many layers of clothing. The not-so-kind lady informed us that now that she knows he has alcohol in his bag, he is absolutely required to purchase the seal-proof container if he wants to bring it on the plane. Required?? We pointed at the many suitcases being checked in around us and asked her how she can be so sure that they are not stuffed with cases and cases of booze. She explained that now that she knows, there is nothing we can do but follow these requirements. So basically, our attempt at understanding their procedures committed us to buy this case, whereas if we had just stuffed the bottles in his bag like everyone else there would have been no problem. Recognizing we had no other options, we handed over the $5 to get this magical "seal-proof container". You'd think smooth sailing from there, right? Nope. One of the bottles had been opened, and according to this lovely lady that means we are not allowed to travel with it. But what about your "seal-proof containers"?? "Nope, the vapors," she explains, "are very dangerous... What if there's a spark in the belly of the plane?" I am quite sure that if there is a spark in the belly of the plane, these containers will not protect a bottle that is sealed by a thin layer of plastic... And again, this risk cannot possibly be that big if they let thousands of suitcases be checked-in without checking their contents. Entirely unreasonable. After finally getting past this nightmarish front desk, we got to the gate and were ready to board the plane. Now I understand the philosophy behind the unassigned seating, but it's truly more of a pain than it's worth. All of section A takes the window and isle seats, so anyone in mid-B and on is forced to squeeze into the middle seat. I do realize that the earlier you check in, the better your number, but if passengers could just pick their seat when they book the flight (or check-in) like every other airline, groups of travelers might actually be able to sit together! How revolutionary! Thank you, Southwest, for the effort, but let's just go back to assigned seating. read more

I would give Southwest Airlines zero stars if I could. I moved from Buffalo, NY to Phoenix, AZ a couple years ago. Within that timespan, I have flown a total of 6 times to and from Buffalo. Every single time my flight has been delayed - Over an hour delayed EVERY SINGLE FLIGHT. My most recent trip, I changed my reservation for an extra $70 so that I could arrive in Phoenix at a reasonable hour. Guess what? My flight was DELAYED and I am arriving at the same time I would have originally arrived before spending the extra $70 to change my reservation. Not to mention the airline NEVER notified their passengers of the delay UNTIL it was time to board. Never again am I flying with this airline and first thing in the morning I will be canceling my Southwest credit card with them. It is an absolute frustration flying with Southwest. I have never EVER experienced this with any other airline. Thank you for ruining the end of my holiday season! read more

This airline is absolutely the worst I've ever been on and I would never recommend it to anyone. The only thing that gets people on this airline is the price difference. I gotta say, it's worth spending more for a different airline. I travel all of the time and I got stuck taking this airline to St. Louis for a work trip. What a joke. Delays everywhere, bathrooms didn't work on the plane from Chicago to St. Louis, something broke on the plane after we pushed away from the gate which took another hour to fix. Don't get me wrong, I'm happy they fixed the things they did, which is the only reason this isn't getting a one star review. Wanted to take an earlier flight out of St Louis at 5am, which btw, is never full if you fly that early. Wanted $160 to fly then instead of 1pm. The one PM flight was over booked and over crowded. So good call there guys. I like how it says "snacks on us" in some of the ad's through the airports. One handful of 10 peanuts isn't a snack guys. My point is, every time I have flown southwest, I hope it gets better, and everytime it seems to get worse. Again, for an extra $30-60 a ticket, FLY A DIFFERENT AIRLINE! read more
