SWA at DCA is fairly limited, as their regional hub for the area is based out of BWI. I was able to get a decent flight in/out of DCA, but you can definitely tell this is not a hub airport for SWA. The terminal is as limited as the flight options, no real outlets or places to spend your time, especially when delayed, but when making a quick entry and/or getaway, it gets the job done. Both directions I was sadly delayed, which is odd for SWA, at least for me. Nothing more than an hour one way and 30 minutes the other, but still noticeable. Gate agents were standard and friendly, and the flight crew was okay. Overall, not my favorite spot or leg of SWA flights, but when in need, SWA at DCA works. read more

Couple things come to mind when I think of southwest: - herding cattle or sometimes cats - unhappy employees - lottery So maybe it was the way I was greeted at the counter? Or perhaps it was the way they just THREW my bag onto the conveyer belt right in front of me (no hiding the bag brutality). Yes. I think that's what it is - the utter disrespect for one's property in your face. Before the purchasing seats it used to be quite disorganized with the onboarding process (cat herding) but now with assigned seating (cattle herding) it seems to be better, however the gate agents always appear to be angry and speaking loudly to toddlers all the time. On the upside, the planes appear newer but if the FA's also seem angry and annoyed with their job, it's all moot. Ticket fares are affordable. I guess you get what you pay for. read more

I love and adore SWA, but this terminal at Ronald Reagan Airport (DCA) is sad sad sad. I know that's not entirely the fault of SW, but they do have some control over their seating, organization, and layout of seating in the gate area. It was cramped and crowded and frankly uncomfortable. Restaurants in Terminal A are terrible as well. There's nowhere to eat if you get counter service, and the sit down restaurant (Reservoir) wasn't great either. Again, this is more on the airport, but if you're flying Southwest out of DCA, don't plan on getting here too early as there's not much to see or do. You don't have access to the rest of the airport once you're through security. I will say the ticketing counter was super friendly with checking a bag, and it was easy to get through security, and also a short walk to the gate. All pluses... but Southwest needs to invest in the terminal! It's a mess. read more

Southwest Airlines - Should say... In case of running out of Jack, dab eyes - Airlines Near Me - Arlington, Virginia

Crowded terminal. Limited food options. Staff a bit less friendlier than other airports but good prices. Wheelchair assistance can be late due to American Airline's priority across the airport. Bags either take forever or are in office before you get there, very inconsistent. Southwest isn't what it used to be but still give it a 3. Looking forward to the Terminal 1 upgrades. read more

I haven't flown Southwest in several years and not since they caved on assigned seats and bag fees. I wasn't expecting much but, on a recent direct flight from DC to StL I was impressed. While Reagan's Southwest gate area was hectic and chaotic with several planes boarding at the same time, overlapping gates and lines and not enough seating, the gate agents were efficient and things managed to go quickly. The plane was newer, roomier, and much more comfy with overhead space and storage and not a packed plane for once. We were comfy and had space to spread out. Bags were off quickly and whole experience was pleasant. read more

DCA to HOU. Or...... You can't control the weather, but you can take control of getting your cancelled flight rescheduled. On the way to DCA, got a message that our flight was cancelled. Instead of out on Sunday at 6:45 PM, now out on Monday at 6:55 AM. No thank you! Got on the phone with an agent, can you drive to Baltimore instead??? There is a 6:15 PM. Good that we did not take a Lyft there. That one got cancelled, too. Reached DCA airport, spoke to an agent who changed us from DCA to HOU to a new itinerary. DCA to St. Louis to Pensacola to Houston. Anything else, we asked?? No, this is it. Noticed that the connection was a tight one, so called again (the agent on the phone said that we had plenty of time to make a 5:15 PM flight in St. Louis even though we had not left DCA yet at 5:30 PM). Then waited in line at the airport as we knew that we would miss our connection and they changed our flights from St. Louis to Pensacola to Houston to Monday at 5 PM while I was talking to them on the phone. Back to the gate agent. This time from DCA to Nashville to Houston. Better because again, just one stop, but now due to more flight delays, we would also miss that connection. Walking through the terminal noticed that the 12:45 PM DCA to HOU flight still had not departed and they also had Oreos. Definitely needed a snack. The gate agent said that they were just waiting on a pilot and crew since they had timed out. Plus they still had a few open seats!! Called SWA once more and hopped back in line at the gate as hold time on the phone was 1-2 hours!! The 12:45 PM direct flight from DCA to HOU still had 10 seats available at 7:21 PM. On the phone for 45 minutes, but the gate agent managed to get two seats on the flight. Thank you. Finally boarded at 9:09 PM....DCA to HOUston!!! Our luggage went to St. Louis initially, but we were able to pick it up the next day in Houston. Yay for luggage trackers and AirTags. Thank you for the patience that the SWA gate agents showed during the chaos and the off duty pilot who volunteered to fly the delayed flight back to HOUston. (P.S. This story is for you, Joy B., and thanks for dinner.) read more

It has been a while since I have flown Southwest, and I remember why. I am hoping that when the new rules come into play with seating it will be better. My flight coming in from Orlando was a decent one, also one that wasn't completely full. When we landed it was an easy process to get from the gates to the baggage area. I'm not sure where people were saying that baggage times were high. My experience here was a short one. From the time it took me to deplane, hit the facilities, walk over to baggage claim, I had like a five minute wait. Service on the plane was amazing. It was a shorter flight and by the time it felt like we had reached cruising altitude we were descending. Landing here was easy, even though there was a line for planes to get out. Once the new rules come into play here, I'm sure it'll be a better experience. I mean, you enacted the baggage fees already, why not carry through for everything. read more

We were on a direct flight from Omaha to Washington DC and we had the best flight crew! One lovely blonde Stewardess from Georgia, and a funny pretty stewardess by the name of Belinda! Belinda made my hubbies day by giving him extra Remy's Graham crackers. Everyone was so joyful and though the flight was a bit bumpy it was an excellent experience. Love the new system that SW has. I didn't think we would but it keeps all the "handicap" wannabes from lining up now. FYI my hubby actually needs a wheelchair! Thank you! read more

Southwest used to be mine and my family's go to airline. The recent changes now make them the new Spirit and we are switching over! Disorganised, High(er) prices, charging for seats and suddenly, they are NEVER ON TIME... flights constantly delayed and service has been HORRIBLE! It was nice while it lasted. Get it together! read more

Worst airline in the world if you're flying them you are an idiot stop supporting them so they can go out of business like spirit!

We visited family in Florida. I researched several airlines to compare prices. Southwest was reasonable and we could take two bags onto the plane. I checked a bag on my return flight. There isn't assigned seating. You can check into the flight 24 hours before the flight. Passengers board according to their check in number. For an additional $15 you can check in earlier. It wasn't necessary to pay for an early check in. We were in row 10 on the way to Florida and in row 13 returning home. If I were taller, it would be worth checking in early to get an exit seat. They have more leg room. We enjoyed watching movies using Southwest's WiFi. There was a hiccup with the return flight. The gate number changed from the time our boarding passes were printed. I am glad I was paying attention. We could have missed our flight. The Southwest app has useful information. I could track my bag and look up flight details. read more

Flew with my baby girl Luna for the first time. This was also my first time flying after nasty car accident left me claustrophobic. I would give 10 if could. Flew non stop both ways out West and back. San Diego airport clean and wonderful. Flew in and out BWI. Flying with a dog and first time in many years think has been 18 years since last time flying. Sad to see SW old seating policy leave. Part what made them stand out was the lack of seat assignment. On the way out they asked me if needed assistance with wheelchair. I declined but wasn't long before regretting that choice. Paid the fee to board early which if had taken the assistance that would not be necessary. Flight was easy and staff wonderful. The stewards were kind and considerate that I was flying with a dog. Few times she had her sticking out they asked me to keep her in bag entire flight. She slept the largest part of flight. I didn't give her any medicine either. On my return scored a flight home last minute half off. It was a night flight or red eye some would call it. Flight was leaving at 9 arriving home 5 am. Remember we have time difference. The plane was just about empty right along with airport. Easy through TSA even. This time was flying alone. Flight out my daughter flew with me but now I was alone. I got assistance and yes they used a wheelchair. I saw the looks because I can walk but I have anxiety plus travel with my girl gave me more anxiety. I also have long list medical issues that can't be seen. Heard people on plane talking about folks using the service while walking just fine. For people that may not understand just because they wheel you doesn't mean can't walk means need assistance. I was able board sooner to settle my dog done and put my things away. However the service was priceless at BWI. Good thing had the service no way that I would been able make that long LONG walk carrying a dog plus my things. Southwest Airlines was wonderful. They made everything go smoothly. Thought travel with my dog would be a big deal. It was not. They are one of better airlines imo. Everyone super friendly. read more

Southwest Airlines - Luna ready to fly her first from east to west. - Airlines Near Me - Arlington, Virginia

Today was a good day. Ann, the lady at customer service at the A9 Southwest was great. Ann had my son's pass printed and ready for him because he is a minor. That showed a lot. William, her partner was also very kind and you can tell they both take their job seriously and pride themselves in good customer service. This is one reason I'm giving 5 stars. The other reason is, the Clear and security checkpoint was on point. They were great. I want to take a moment though, to explain the 1 negative experience we had. The woman at the very first check in where the bags were was quite rude. Her line did not say "priority." The other 2 lines said "priority." She continued to take Priority customers and then yelled to my son and I to say "if you're just dropping off bags, go over there." I had to speak loudly back "we are not." Then, finally when she decided to call us to her kiosk, she said "what do you need?" I said "I would like to escort my minor child to the gate." She said "I need your ID." I handed her my ID. Then, she said "your birthday XX/XX?" I said "no." Then, proceeding to tell her when my birthday is. She said "oh." Then, she handed me my gate pass and ID. I had to ask "are we good to go?" She said "yes." Everything I explained above was extremely rude and she did not treat me the customers she decided to take in front of us that way. THEN...when I got to security, she spelled my name incorrectly. I'm sharing a video so you can see the kiosk area and that her sign did NOT say "Priority." After writing all of this, Now I'm changing my stars because having to write all of this irritated me enough to cause me to lower the stars. read more

Our flight was delayed and the revised scheduled risked missing our connecting flight and being stuck in Omaha overnight. Great town I'm sure but wasn't really looking for an impromptu overnight visit. We saw the delayed flight status before we left home and if we made the change ourselves online there was no change fee of course but we were going to have to pay almost $1300 for the fare difference. Southwest left us a voicemail saying to call them to change the flight without any fees so we called them (after researching flight options online first) and they changed our flight without any fees and we arrived basically on time. Thumbs up to Southwest for the free flight change due to the delay but how about letting us change for free online when there's a delay instead of having to call customer service. read more

SW is my favorite airline. Great customer service. No silly tactics to fly or foolishness. Free bags when you fly. Also, if your fare gets cheaper, just rebook, and the extra money will be saved as travel credits. They usually issue points when there are major delays. Unlike that airline aka known as the Greyhound of the Skies (Frontier) would never do such thing. Plus free snacks and non alcoholic brevys. They will always be my first pick in booking a flight. read more

Flight delays and layovers made for a long trip. Staff was friendly. During our layover the was a gentleman having a medical emergency and I stepped in to help. Was fortunate a doctor stepped in shortly after. The patient was transported to a local hospital. A flight attendant saw what was going on and gave us both travel vouchers. Completely unexpected but kind all the same. Despite all the hassle we will continue to use this airline. read more

Like most travelers, we chose Southwest Airlines for their pricing, and reach to destinations other airlines may not have access. Unfortunately for us, we chose Southwest at a time they seemed unequipped to handle the amount of customers they served. While delays happen, the price difference to change the flight was astronomical, and the number of delays made planning a different flight nearly impossible without changing airlines. Once we got to our home terminal, the lack of organization was astounding. Four flights landed within 15-30 minutes of each other, and it seemed as if communicating where baggage is being unloaded was not an option. 3/4 flights went to one (1) carousel. As a frequent traveler, I understand things can get tight. This was the worst experience I've had in commercial travel. Everything could have been made better by communicating with consumers, and having options readily available for them. I can't say I'll recommend this airline to anyone that asks. read more

Update: this past Memorial Day weekend, my flight to DCA was heavily delayed for 2.5+ hour. Originally, I was supposed to arrive at 10:04 pm. Instead, we arrived at 12:40 am. I would have been fine if they issued me a voucher but I guess they changed their policy to be more picky. Their customer service have definitely gone down. My flight back to Chicago was also delayed. Not sure what the reason was since it wasn't weather related. I'll recommend paying the extra money to take United or American to avoid all of the delays. read more

Four of us booked tickets to Orlando from Baltimore, and somehow one of us got third level entry, another got last entry and last two got placed on standby. The one that got in first help seats for the other three. But the doors were closed on the standby party and were told they'd be placed on another flight. Meanwhile there were about seven empty seats!!! Finally they reopened the door and allowed the other half of our part in. Why stress passengers out like this??!?!? We were thinking how we'd have to wait at the airport until the rest of our party would get there to go get our rental. They were stressed out about the time they would be rebooked on another flight and how we wouldn't get to fly together as planned. It was a very stressful 20 minutes! I'm sure blood pressure was so high! I will say the craft was clean. I didn't see fingerprint marks above me or by window shade. They've done much better with cleaning. The snacks are as usual and the usual iced filled cup with a tiny bit of liquid. Dreading our flight back through Southwest! Hope to never have to use them ever again. read more

SWA since the huge debacle two or three Christmases ago, in my recent multiple experiences, has only gotten worse. I've literally grown to despise traveling with SWA. "IF" the repeated incremental delays were due to inclement weather that would be understandable; however, this current trip and the one from May have been awful. Delayed five minutes here and five minutes there (to an excess of greater than 30 minutes) is NOW BOARDING but because I'm half way across from my needed boarding gate; I'm within reason ANNOYED that I was unaware the flight was being boarded only to sit on the tarmac. I was group A but turns out now I'm one of last three to board a full flight. NOT LMAO...announcement just made that we'd be taking off in a few minutes and that the delay is system related. SWA, get it together!! read more

This is the worst terminal experience I have ever had. Terminal 1 is a HIKE from the metro and the entire rest of the airport. ZERO STARS: I was flying from DCA to STL on flight 2310. I am not sure if it was the airline's or the airport's fault for the lack of coordination. I understand there was chaos from the weather delays, however, I arrived at 3 pm for a 6:30 flight and somehow was told I missed it. I sat watching the board for hours, switched gates at least 7 times, watched as incorrect gates/delay times/boarding information was given both at the airport and on the app. After the sixth change I went to the agent asking what was going on and she said the gate had changed and the flight already boarded although no announcement was made. The only thing I'll give them credit for is the fact they rebooked me. However, I never should have missed this in the first place. The prices of the airline have gone up as the quality of service has plunged. It is not worth the price tag and honestly I should have known better considering every time I fly with them it's always horribly inconvenient, problematic and overpriced. I will not be flying this airline again and will tell everyone I know to stay far away. read more

Delayed in Orlando due to weather. We were asked to open all of our air vents. How odd. We got to DC, deplaned, then went back in the same plane. Sat in the plane for 45 minutes then were told that they were going to do some sort of air powered takeoff and had to sit and build up air or something . Then we were told the fuel injector wasn't working after the air was built up. So off the plane we went. Changed gates and now waiting for a new plane . This whole thing started over eight hours ago. My trip from Tucson to my ultimate destination in Washington, DC was over- all great. There were flight delays but it was not urgent because I carved out time for that possibility. The reason for the four stars is that, once again, the staff at the SWA counter were FAR from friendly. Surly is a bit extreme but they pretty much were dismissive and not friendly. It's not the first time and I wish the staff at the Tucson location would actually read this review and act like they care. One outstanding occurrence for the outbound trip: two fun, fabulous flight attendants, Kevin Donato and Bryon S. Kinsey, made our SWA experience from regular "great" to SUPER great. They were fun, funny and it was REAL, authentic nice and they made our trip from Tucson to Houston truly delightful. VERY different experience from the return trip! I have never been so miserable on any flight in my over 50 years and the friend who was with me agrees. To say it was freezing is a gross under statement. I had on a long sleeve shirt, long pants, socks and a pashmina shawl in case I needed some extra warmth. Our flight from Dallas to Tucson was about 3 hours of misery. People in my surrounding area were all complaining as well and trying to bundle up. We asked our flight attendants if there was anything they could do and even though they informed us they told the captain, it did not improve. I was so miserable and there was not a single thing I could do about it except sit there. It's the day after and I am still sneezing and congested. Does anyone care? I hope so. All things considered, this is still my airline of choice. read more

This airline is the worst. Unfortunately all US carriers share the same poor customer service and flight attendants. If you aren't happy in a public facing job, you should look for work elsewhere. Southwest and others need to spend some time researching international airlines and how they treat "Customers". These US carriers treat passengers like they are doing us a favor. Dear Southwest Airlines, you talk a lot about LUV, but I am sorry to say you failed miserably on that front yesterday. My family had a simple request for some needed compassion. Instead of understanding during a pretty challenging situation, we got yelling and mistreatment. Here is the story. We asked to allow my family with a cerebral palsy daughter and two minor children with autism to pre-board together. You see, getting our daughter out of her wheelchair with all her tubes and gadgets takes many hands. Leaving behind kids with autism to accomplish that feat just didn't make a lot of sense to us. But, Southwest apparently felt it was best to split us up and treat us extremely rudely for asking. Our lesson -- and a lesson for anyone that needs a little extra support -- do not fly Southwest. read more

Okay, my personal opinion and experience, I'm not flying with southwest again unless I HAVE to because of my fiance. Bottom line, not covid friendly. It's tight. People are crammed next to you. I'm 5ft and usually have space but not here. There's no assign seats, you just claim it like a kid playing musical chairs. And last, affordability is a gamble. SOMETIMES it's cheap and other times not. The way you board is by groups. So if you're in a group, stick together. Other than that, the staff is friendly and 2 free check-in luggage. There's not much to say. I rank this airline above Spirit. For first timers, I don't recommend if you're about comfort. This is strictly for the Southwest Airlines I have taken at Ronald Reagan airport. The remaining airport is good except this one. It is not reflect their online services. Here is what happens. Our flight out from D.C. suppose to be at 4 pm. We did receive a text said the plane delay to 6 pm due to bad weather. When we arrive at airport at 5 pm, the plane further delay to 8 pm. Then 9:50 pm and eventually cancel. The reason they use is bad weather. This bad weather from Houston to D.C. migrate course this delay. Our plane is bound from Houston to D.C. and then to Tampa then to Nashville. The plane did arrive at D.C. Gate at 9:30 due to bad weather. What the southwest did not tell you is the bad weather eventually dissolve at 10 pm. Because all flight can get out during that time. I also check weather forecast it is clear between DC to Tampa. Not Southwest have tire crew only can do one trip. They did chose to Nashville. All the Nashville customers were able to take the same plane to Nashville while sacrificing the Tampa. This is what they did not tell us. The airport counter and Southwest supervisor did offer anything to Tampa customers. All of us strange in the airport except offer a flight back to next day. Southwest policy is ask for full refund of next plane back. No hotel or no book other airlines free. Now I know. All this incidents I cumulate the weather forecast screen shot. The final flight to Nashville on their choice. Yes, the online customers service did offer $50 voucher after my complaint with evidence. But the damage being done. I wish they can be honest about that saying they can only take one trip which they chose for they business purposes where the plane is bound from Nashville next morning. read more

The Southwest experience at Reagan National has steadily declined over the years. Flying out of Terminal A used to be advantageous and "quick". Now it's just a frustrating headache. I wanted to simply complain through Southwest's website, but you've made it almost impossible to send a message through it. I normally only flew southwest 2-3 times a year, but I didn't travel during the pandemic for various reasons. But you've lost a customer forever because you took my travel funds during the pandemic. In April 2021, I booked a September flight. I had to cancel it because I caught Covid. I tried to rebook a flight a couple months later and found I had to use the credits by April. I would've been glad to book a new flight for later in the year. However, I simply couldn't get away by April. By making us USE the credits a year from purchase, and not the flight date. You aren't giving us much time to use the credit. So you took a few hundred dollars from me. That's fine. There are other airlines. One customer won't make a difference to you. So be it.
