Do Not Use Delta. Worst trip in 50 years of business travel. We are military. Received orders in March for travel to Korea in May. We have 2 cats. Coordinated with Delta for a direct flight in early March and got one, operated by Korean Air. Delta asked for certificates on the cats, size of carriers, and types of seats requested. We gave them the info and was told later that we could not do business class with cats - tried to pay for it out of pocket because I had both hips replaced in the past few months. Delta put us in economy - refused to let us in economy plus, premier and business - we offered to pay. So we bought a third seat to put the cats in. It was such a huge hassle dealing with Delta that we called back several times to insure our cats were on the flight. I have voice recordings of Delta clerks assuring us on each call the cats were checked in. 2 days before the flight we called Delta and it was OK, all recorded. We still worried and called Korean Air the day before. KAL said they cancelled the cats travel on 20 March. Delta provided KAL the wrong dimensions of our cat carriers. KAL refused to deal with us directly on the cats. We called Delta immediately. Delta denied they made a mistake. Once we presented the recording they admitted to the mistake. We took hours on the phone the night before to get the cats on a flight .. but a different flight now and NOT direct. Got up at 0230 and showed up at Dulles at 0400 for a 0608 flight and discovered the cats were not on the flight and Delta deleted the third seat we paid for. Spent 3 hours fixing another mess by Delta at the counter, finally getting on a flight at 1038. We did get to Korea but the cats were in their carriers for 20+ hours. Most flight service personnel and attendants were kind but a few made a federal case out of having the cats on our laps, in their carriers, to pet them. We will do everything to not use Delta again. Everyone was nice "trying" to fix the problem .. no one fixed the problems .. and we were extremely miserable. Don't use Delta. read more

I'm a diehard Delta Stan. I find them to be the best at customer service and the most reliable. This particular review is concerning the DCA (Reagan International in DC) crew. My direct flight from LGA to BNA was cancelled for mechanical reasons so I was automatically rerouted to DCA. After my homecoming had already been delayed several hours, I reported to the gate to find we were further delayed. Logistics mandated that the crew for our plane was reassigned to a different flight, and our crew was coming from an incoming flight. While waiting at the gate, the agents kept us updated and handed out snack boxes and waters. They were very kind and apologetic. I know it seems wild that I started out talking about how reliable Delta is while explaining my flight had been cancelled, then delayed. But first, you have to understand that I fly, on average, every 5-8 days. I had done this for three years before I ever had a Delta delay. Since that time, they have been rare--almost always due to weather. They also go out of their way to reschedule, reroute, rebook, anything to get you there as soon as possible in a way that's as convenient as possible for you. And for being rerouted, they deposited 6000 sky miles into my account. They almost always work to make amends to their loyal fliers. Just made diamond this year! read more

Delta is a third class airline. If you leave something on the plane or the gate, kiss it goodbye. Returning lost items is apparently not in their customer service mandate. Items are not logged in, and never seen again until it is sold by Delta. My iPhone, left at the gate, handed to a Delta gate personal, was really lost once Delta had it. We were just kicked off a flight because I asked her to go to the restroom and the flight attendant said I could. When I got to the front, I went to the restroom and when I came out, a blonde haired lady stood in the aisle and said I was causing a ruckus. I asked her why she said that and what I did? And I said I'm not causing a ruckus and I walked to my seat. She then followed me to my seat and said you're causing a ruckus and I said what did I do and she says you're disturbing the people around you. And I said I'm not doing anything. And she said you're not protecting the people around you and I said are you protecting me? Then she called Homeland security and kicked us off our flight. Ahhh not only did Delta Air Lines cancel our 6pm flight at 9pm with little to no communication or kindness. They did not offer hotel or food vouchures at 3am in the morning. You know after everyone already figured it out what they had to do (aka pay for) with rental cars etc. They could not offer a new flight for days, so there was no more no longer an option for us getting to Maine at all (and catching our flight home). Now we will be staying in DC until we can find a way home. Which means we have to book a $1400 flight home in addition to to the rental car. Plus the nonrefundable Airbnb that we never got to in Maine. We are stuck in DC having paid close to $2k now, thanks Delta in extra or unusable expenses. After waiting for a 5 hour call back from Delta. Super unhappy with their customer service and lack of empathy due to THEIR own contractor issues. I'll simply copy and paste the message I put into the survey that Delta sent me. That should pretty well sum up my experience and my view of their service. I altered the contact info in this as it's not needed to get across what needs said: Instead of telling you what you did well, let me tell you what you did very badly. I arrived at the airport at 12:00 in the afternoon. By 12:15 I was in line to get my baggage checked out. What I observed was a line of over 200 people lined up at a check in counter with 15 terminals and only 7 people manning them. To condense a more than 2 hour nightmare it took til 2:20 in the afternoon to get to the terminal. By then the door had been closed and I had to wait until close to 6:00 to find out if I could even get onto the next flight. By sheer luck I did. Then commenced series of mishaps I would expect to see only on a show like The Three Stooges. The plane I was slated to get on had a mechanical issue that they needed to resolve first. After about an hour we finally loaded on and taxied out to the runway whereapon after about 10 minutes the pilot had to take the plane back to the terminal and clock out due to having worked his allotted time for the day. We then proceeded to wait for new pilots which took the better part of 45 min to get. Before they could get us on it was announced that the plane had further issues and was expected to take roughly an hour to resolve. After 45 min to an hour they announced that the plane would be taken out of commission due to being unable to resolve the issue in a timely manner & they had to get a plane to replace it. To cut to the chase, it was roughly 11:00 pm when we finally took off. To sum up the day, I got home at about 1:30 am on Monday morning and was forced to contact my boss on sudden notice and take an extra vacation day which is infinitely more valuable to me than lost wages. If you can figure out how to compensate me for the approximately 13 1/2 hours of nightmare and lost vacation time I would sincerely like to hear it. After all was said and done, I had a day that lasted about 18 1/2 hours before I finally got home to my own bed. In case this review doesn't identify me, let me introduce myself. I recently attempted to book a flight to Ghana, West Africa and discovered that Delta Airline which flies direct to the country is price gouching. Flight alone to the county should cost in the upwards of $1800 -2000 for a 20 hour flight. I get the fuel cost has risen, but it has not gone up so much that it warrant this kind of fares. I need anyone going to Ghana to really to do your due diligence and give the other airlines a chance. Paying this kind of money is not worth it. read more

I was flying from DC to Atlanta. I packed light to avoid checking a bag. The Delta employees made everyone in the last boarding group check their bag. I didn't want to check a bag. The employees were politely dismissive. I liked having movie choices during the flight. The flight was so short and the movie made the flight feel shorter. Since the flight was running late, there weren't available employees to direct customers to baggage claim or connecting flights. My flight from Atlanta to DC was completely opposite of my flight to Atlanta. I didn't have to check my bag. I had sprained my wrist and was able to board in the first group. The employees help put my suitcase in the overhead area. The flight attendants were cheerful. It was convenient being able to check in early online. I had my boarding pass on my phone but I also printed it at the kiosk. read more

Went on a bachelor party trip this weekend and found out that Delta lost the bachelor's golf clubs, clothes, bachelor party mementos, and other valuables. This was flight #2115 to Boston. Two days later they delivered some other guy's golf bag to his house and didn't even notice that the name on the bag wasn't his. They don't seem eager to fix their mistakes and now we're doing everything we can to simply get some management to address the issue. Lesson learned to never fly with them. Normally I try not to let airlines complaint get in the way just because travelers just want to get to their designations safely without much delay. But based on my most recent experience, it was pretty bad. Staff here (at least during my visit) at Reagan had really bad attitudes and even yelled at its customers. I don't really understand. If you are giving out instructions, you don't have to yell. Like David So said, yelling doesn't make things better or instructions clearer. The thing is since Delta has been in the business for so long and has more flight connections than many other airlines so it probably doesn't really care for its customers like newer company (e.g. virgin). I very much prefer Virgin America since the airplane is newer and most staff are well trained. But it doesn't have the wide of kind coverage/destinations like delta. I'm not going to say something like "I will never fly delta again" because I probably have already said it years ago. Normally in flight staff is pretty nice in my experience. Pilots always keep you informed about any updates. However, airport staff is not often so nice. I am just going to briefly describe my recent experience flying with delta. Well, when I first walked up to my seat, there was food scraps left on my seat everywhere. And I mean everywhere. The seat was so dirty and I could not sit down. I had to wipe my seat clean. Then, some type of engine died while we were pulling on the driveway before taking off. It meant like all the lights went out and fans stopped working. There was no air coming in. A lot of people were having trouble breathing but people were very civil (there was no complaint). It was 86 degrees outside so not so hot. But it became difficult to breathe after not having air coming in longer than 10minutes. Hey everything has technical difficulty, but you don't think about that when you are with hundres of other people in the same plane with recycled air and gross stuff on your seat. I even started taking extra time to read through instructions to prepare emergency landing. We waited at the gate for around 40 min before finally fixing the engine and taking off. Armrest wasn't working so I had to sit up uncomfotably (the button wasn't working so I couldn't not adjust my seat back either) during my 4-hour flight. See pictures for proof. Avoid Delta at all cost. Apparently, they are not responsible for anything a delta employee conveys in an oral agreement to you. After a cancelled flight a DCA (DL 444), and an announcement not being made of the intercom system about the cancellation, my two friends and I went to spend an hour looking for our bags, and then 3 of the Delta service desk representatives state "If I make a claim. I will be able to get reimbursement for $200/person/night." So we went and booked a room (otherwise we would have just driven back an hr away as we wouldn't have booked a room if the delta service desk representatives hadn't said anything.) Now that I have made my claim, Delta is denying me due to the cancellation reason (air traffic control issues) and apologize for the "misinformation". At what point, Delta, do you take responsibility for your employees words and actions. They representatives even provided us a taxi voucher and meal credit to the hotel. You should realize there is a clear line between correlation and causation. This is a case of causation. Your employee said we would be reimbursed, and now Delta, you are not upholding the employees' words, though untrue they may be, they caused me and my friends to book a room, on short notice. In DC, which mind you, is not cheap ($500). I don't want to have to get my lawyers involved,, and would really appropriate some decent customer service. read more

Delta has the worst customer service by far! I'm not talking about their airline staff, but their overall business model towards customers. Many of my flights with this airline have been delayed. Including one in which I sat in the terminal for 9 hours waiting to hear if my 1 1/2 hour afternoon flight was canceled. They finally got us off the ground, but like 10 hours later and told us their was a possibility it would be cancelled and we would have our money refunded and have to find our own flight out. On top of my experience, I recently dropped a friend,who was visiting me, off at the airport to find out that her flight had been cancelled even though we had checked its status in the morning. Once she arrived there they informed her of the situation and stated that the last flight out to her arrival airport was booked and she would have to find someone to pick her up at an airport 35 min away (w/o traffic)! Needless to say 4 hours later she did get off the ground, but that flight was even delayed by a 1/2 hour. I used to always fly Delta airlines because they kept the customer in mind, but for many years now they have forgotten the basic business model and choose to only seek the bottom line. This is an interventional review, please restructure your core business plan to keep the customer in mind. The mile high club has gone virtual. Flying over Oklahoma, I was able to ignore most of the annoyances of flying Delta by using their onboard WI-FI. The regular price is around $14 for 24 hours but I used a freebie coupon code from the in-flight magazine. I found it useful to catch up on e-mails while wedged in flight but I would acquire a privacy screen pronto. This in-flight wireless is incongruous to the fact that Atlanta Airport, which is Delta's hub and claims to be the busiest airport (business and concessions mainly), does not have wireless. NOT AT ALL! And certainly not for free. They have a few wall stations where one can purchase Internet time for $.35/minute and so on... but really? Back to the in-flight experience. Delta is like most other airlines. Weird Hollywood caricature style flight stewardesses, no seatback TVs, no satellite TV... but they're trying to enter the 21st century with WI-FI... but the toilets are too small and old for any mile-highing. Arriving, no problem. A short taxi, quick deplaning and the bags were already starting to arrive on the carousel when I arrived. All yellow "priority" tags were the first ones out, so I was able to grab my two and go. Returning two days later, the ticket agent was very helpful and got me checked in, ticketed and bags checked. As with most of their airports, the ticket counters have separate lines for passengers just checking in, economy passengers checking bags and elite passengers checking bags. What they're supposed to do is take the elite passengers (those who have earned Gold, Platinum or Diamond status as loyal customers of Delta and Delta partners) ahead of economy passengers. That didn't happen when I checked in, but I didn't make a thing about it as I had a long wait. Delta has a Sky Club in DCA. Just after passing through security, find the elevator to the left. read more

WARNING - confusing trip with a perfect 50/50 experience. First leg of our trip - Worst costumer service since United and American Airlines. If you have any questions or request for assistance don't ask. Two flight assistants at the counter answered our question about recommendations regarding storing a wedding dress with " i don't know. Im only working the counter. Ask the flight attendants". With attitude. These employees must have some experience w ppl bringing suits or wedding dresses. Terrible. And wait till you see the pictures of the accommodations. We've traveled back to the eighties in No-style. Second leg - we flew from Minn to Seattle, leaving at 7 pmish and arriving in Seattle around 10. We were met with so much warmth and welcome. All of the flight attendance were really great and supportive of our wedding dress and suit. Finally felt like someone recognized we were on an important trip. Jill is her name and she provided the most exceptional service anyone could imagine She made sure the dress was not wrinkled etc. very caring and attentive. So i leave you with a mixed bag. Years of flying of Delta have giving me some mix bag of experience. They are pioneer of providing the latest aircraft into their fleet so inflight entertainments are usually better than the most in comparison with other US airlines. Their inflight service can range from average to excellent (great flight to Shanghai and Beijing) to mediocre in most domestic flight. Their weakest spot is boarding where it can be a total chaos where priority meant nothing to certain gate agent. If you are Black, you will get priority regardless of what your status may be in ATL. I have never seen it so blatantly racist treatment by the gate agent where 15% of almost all black customers get board first even before first class while I saw nearly all of them board before First Class or Medallion members by using the disability "priority" and I don't "THAT MANY" qualifies and nearly most of them sits with me in the back of the airplane. I would ask for a supervisor do internal audits and see if that is true with certain employees. read more

I initially thought it would be a waste of time trying to get a refund because it was a last second change. But I wrote Delta an email explaining my situation. So this is the second time in a month I have flown Delta. Overall, not impressed with my experience. This last trip was definitely a much worse experience. The journey started at Reagan Intl with our flight leaving at 6am. Per usual we wanted so to get to the airport 2 hours prior just so we would have plenty of time. When we got there, there was a group who looked like they were flying back to their home country and had about 20 bags to check. Normally, I don't care, but the check in counter didn't open for over hour after we showed up. At least 6 different delta employees walked past seeing how many bags there were, and no one did anything about it. I think they should have recognized the need to open earlier to check all the bags, so people weren't running late going through TSA. I did buy my tickets through priceline, but in my opinion, that doesn't mean that two tix purchased at the same time shouldn't be sat together. At nearly every gate, we had to go to the counter to get the seats changed. I don't know about you, but I want to be sat with the person that I'm flying with. Come on Delta, get it together. I give the additional star for the fact that we were able to be seated together on every flight after asking. But, the lack of professionalism from most of the flight attendants really bothered me. I understand that a flight attendant's job is very difficult. They fly city to city, without rest, stuck dealing with annoying customers. But that's no excuse to give poor customer service. I may not have much of a choice went booking through priceline, but I think for the hassle, if it's within 10 hours driving distance, I'll just do that instead. read more

What hell is the point on having a good flight crew get you in early if the ground can't ever handle it, stuck waiting for a gate again. This terminal was a joke to the biggest degree heading out and bad coming in too. I think its great that they have ipads for you to use while you wait and charge up. However, I would trade working restrooms and flights that leave on time, rather than distractions from the fact that I want to do is leave. This terminal seems to mainly be for short connecting flights. The newer Terminal 4 is a whole different story. read more

Checking in and receiving your boarding pass online is always the easy part. Its what you go through once you enter the airport! Some things you can blame on the airport but others you have to blame on the airlines and difficult passengers. Since I got my boarding pass electronically, all I had to do was drop my luggage off and do the normal ID/boarding pass check, which went pretty smoothly. Security was great. Quick and easy. NOW the gate experience.....‍. It was like a "cattle call"! The signs posted near the front which stated, " Priority"; "One Zone"; " Two Zone", etc., are not tall enough so when everyone rushes to get in line to start the boarding process people in the back cannot see which line to get into because you cannot see the signs! Either you get out of line and go upfront to see or, yes, you could ask someone. However, as I was sitting there listening to another lady ask, she was given the wrong information. Apparently the guy couldn't see either, he just assumed he was in the correct line, which he was not. Uuughhh... Thank God I had "Sky" on my ticket because I was able to board immediately after Priority! And I had no idea I was a "Sky" member on Delta!! Not complaining about that seemly wonderful surprise. Lol. I had seat 14A, which apparently is a Comfort Seat and 5th Row from First Class. These seats were definitely roomier and more comfortable than most airlines seats but then again, it is probably because I was in the "Comfy"seats. I cannot comment on the "basic" seats so I can not compare them to other airlines' normal seating room. read more

I had a flight to Dallas Texas from Reagan National in Washington DC scheduled time depart in December. I bought the insurance for this flight. Prior to the flight I had two deaths in my family. Being that the deaths Affected my leave balance putting me negative, I call delta to cancel my upcoming flight. Delta tells me I have to pay 150.00 yo cancel the flight that I bought insurance with. Delta told me the insurance is a third party insurance company. The insurance company is Allianz global insurance services. They asked me for a copy of the death certificate of my cousins funeral. I will never fly Delta or use this ridiculous insurance company ever again. I will avoid flying on Delta ever again. A recent round trip to Los Angeles was just brutal. I can't remember being on a large aircraft with such cramped seating. Even though we had aisle seats, it was still tortuous for the 6 hour flight going and the 4 1/2 hour flight returning. Not only that- my husband got three bug bites on the flight out, and I got two bites on my ankles on the return flight! They clearly don't clean the planes since the turnaround time was about 10 to 15 minutes! the only reason I gave an extra star was because of the wonderful Cynthia (based out of LA) who was so friendly with a great sense of humor. Like any good drama, this review starts with a negative, but ends with a positive. No airline is perfect. Airline horror stories are legion. But sometimes, an exemplary guy steps into the madness and merits big-time props. In early Feb 2013, while flying to GPT, the Delta kiosk at DCA did me wrong by selling me an upgrade and then only applying it to one leg of my two-leg journey. Yes, it's a first-world problem, I admit. But nonetheless annoying. It took my cash and then jipped me! The check-in folks agreed it was lame but foisted me off on the gate folks -- "talk to them, we can't help you." I did not have high hopes (i.e. I had low hopes). At the gate, some of the Delta folks floundered, telling me that fixing the sitch was impossible and that I'd have to file a bunch of forms to get my money back etc. Kinda surreal. Me: Just cancel it, please. Them: We can't. Me: Why? Them: the system won't let us. You have one first class leg (the short one) but for the long leg you are sitting in the storage compartment. Then Yared showed up at the gate and took over. This guy was rad. I really appreciate him. He wrangled his colleagues and got them focused. Where they were at a loss, he helped them get found, quickly and efficiently helping them understand the archana of Delta credit card billing, and managed them in a way that resolved the issue with minimal annoyance. He really gave a hoot. And he knew what he was doing. It's guys like this (no kidding) that keep American business humming. Just getting it done, with no hope of being recognized with an "extra credit" star. just doing it. Because he knows what the hell he's doing. No excuses. And he had a million other things on his mind... he was clearly some kind of supervisor. But he took the time to help one customer at a time (which for most folks is just a campy slogan... but for him was a real commitment). Three cheers for him. Thanks, Yared. read more

This review is part rant and part warning for other travelers. I do not wish this upon anyone else. I won't go into the fine details, but after a needed flight change, the site that we booked our flights on was willing to change our flights without charging us. However, the flight we needed to catch was in 30 minutes! We were at the airport already and we had our running shoes out! The person behind the desk for some reason (it was a bit difficult to understand her) couldn't print out the tickets, and before you know it the gates for this flight were closed...and this was because she couldn't print out our tickets. She was also trying to tell us that we had to pay $50 each for changing our flight. That's a no. Our booking site had no trouble changing our flight (due to a mix up...not our fault), but Delta of course tried to pull some extra money out of us. Then, since our gate had closed, she proceeded to tell us that we now owed Delta $150 each to change our flight until the next day. Wait a minute...this makes no sense. We owe even more money for happenings that were not our fault, and now we can't even leave until the next day? You've got to be kidding me. We call up the booking site, and my very, very patient boyfriend stayed on phone with them for 3 hours while they tried to figure things out with Delta. We were flying out of DCA and at this point we were willing to go to the 2 other DC area airports if we had to. 3 hours, though. My goodness. I have to give credit to the booking site. Delta was the problem child. Not only was the story repeated several times for whoever, but the people at the booking site were also yelling at Delta. FINALLY, the booking site told us they'd refund us and that we were on another flight that left the next morning. We were only flying to Boston, which should only take us 1 hour to fly to...but not on Delta! 6 hours. Our connection was in Detroit. You know what, at that point we were just happy to see a light at the end of this tunnel. The story continues. My boyfriend, Delta, and the booking site all hang up. Things have been settled. We get everything in writing via email to make sure that we won't get duped again with extra charges. About an hour later the booking site calls my boyfriend back and tells him that they're ready to sell us tickets through Delta for our flight the next day. I thought we already had flights? They sent us our itineraries. Nope, apparently not. During this whole time I was doing my own research on other airlines and flights. I saw a decently priced flight through Southwest out of Baltimore. We make sure that we will get fully refunded from Delta and tell them that we are flying through SW now. I'm sorry we couldn't help the booking site with another sale, but we were fed up with this nonsense. Southwest is no-nonsense as far as I'm concerned; they and Jet Blue were the only airlines that had reasonable prices. We had to wake up rather early for the SW flight, and what do you know? Delta calls at 2:30am telling my boyfriend that our flight times have changed. What flights with Delta? Who knows. All in all, I want to thank the booking site for their patience and SW for how easy-going they are. I'm sorry to say, Delta has lost our business. Do not try to pull out as much money as you can with your customers. It's just not fair. I am not sure what Delta's business strategy is, but I would encourage that they develop a more customer-friendly approach.
