Excellent spot to watch sports or grab a bite and a drink. The Southside Tavern is what you should think of when you want a local neighborhood spot. This super dog friendly bar has several TVs and a juke box in the front room, a projection and pool table in the second room and a big patio in the back with a bunch of large yard games to enjoy the weather. So many of the bars in Flag we had gone to catch a game or hang out had just beer or just beer and a couple wines. Many don't have kitchens either. This is a full bar with a fantastic selection of bourbons and other booze and have beers on tap with a kitchen with great food. We had tacos, some seasoned fries and chicharrones. All the food was fantastic. Matt is the owner who just took over a few years ago and likely your host when you go and he literally does it all. Not sure how, but the guy takes the orders, makes the drinks and food and serves it within a timely manner. We went in for the World Cup and he had free prizes for people and drink specials for the game action. You could tell the owner cared about each guest having a great time. I have been coming up to flag the last couple summers and somehow missed it before this trip so I wanted to make sure others didn't make the same mistake I made by missing out on this great spot. I made this account to specifically review this establishment and haven't used it since. Then I see my review has been taken down since it wasn't a "firsthand experience as a customer of the business." So this time, I will make it crystal clear that this is my firsthand experience with SouthSide Tavern. I went to SouthSide Tavern one night, and for those who have been know that it's kind of three different sections- two different areas inside and then an enclosed outdoor patio. This outdoor area is completely fenced off. While I was out here, I noticed I stepped in something smelly. I look at the bottom of my shoe and the top to bottom is covered in a mushy brown substance that reeked. I wish I still had that picture, but I must have deleted it in the past 2 years. Because my shoe was CAKED with this stuff. Now I have no idea what this smelly brown stuff was, but I have seen other reviews with animals in there establishment so idk... although it seemed more horse like... So yes, I've to SouthSide Tavern before. And yes, I stepped in something smelly there (you could see it on the floor all out there). And I am so upset I don't have that picture. We came here from out of town with my family. Left the kiddo at home and mom and dad had a little day date around Flagstaff. So glad we stopped in here!! Matt, the owner, was there and showed us the place and talked with us the whole time we were there. What a great dude. Hans, the bartender, was cool as heck and also a good guy. Can't speak for the food but the menu looks great. This is a place you can go day drink and enjoy yourself but also the place has an amazing system and I hear they have a great DJ. I have been to Southside Tavern about five times. I generally go for music and drinks on Thursday nights. There is a large selection of liquor, and modest selection of draft beer. There is not much wine, although they do have some unusual bottles in the small selection. I have not tried the food. I really enjoy karaoke on Wednesday and Thursday nights. Charlie is a great karaoke host. He has a large selection and is great at engaging with customers. Other customers are generally encouraging, regardless of the song. I have seen everything from Under The Sea (Little Mermaid), to Stairway to Heaven, to Rob Zombie performed here, and it all goes over pretty well. The jukebox normally opens around 7:30-8:00p. Some hard rock and metal is filtered, but overall, the jukebox is pretty open. There are three general areas - the bar area, which is brightly lit and feels the most active; the activity area with nuanced lighting, karaoke, pool, and TVs; and the outside patio with a fire pit and lounge seating. Each area is well-kept. Other customers are pretty relaxed. I have not seen anything resembling aggression or blatant rudeness here. I recommend Southside Tavern for the cocktails and karaoke. read more

Such a cool spot! Drew, the owner, was incredibly sweet! We stopped in on Sunday during the snow storm so we had the place to ourselves. Drew turned on the fire pit for the kids on the dog friendly back patio while they played in the snow. The tacos were awesome and the salsas were delicious! I highly recommend the habanero salsa. Plenty of TVs in the back room with the pool table. The patio would have been a lot of fun had it not been for the weather. The bathroom was updated and clean. While in Flagstaff, we were looking for a spot to watch some college football. In Arizona, the early games start at 10 AM so a lot of the bars downtown were closed and didn't open until 11 AM. Unacceptable as you'd miss over a quarter due to the late open time. SouthSide tavern does it right as they opened a couple minutes before ten. They also play the sound of one game, whoever asks first, which is always a must as a sports bar. It irritates me when a sports bar won't play the sound or plays music instead. You're a sports bar, embrace it! The bartender took care of us. While she was a little slow, she was friendly. We tried a breakfast skillet that came with diced tomatoes, cheese, eggs, sausage, and hash browns. I didn't have high hopes for the food, I was just there for the game, but I was pleasantly surprised. A really great skillet, well done! Stay away if your looking for a welcoming and receptive night out because this place has literally nothing to offer. South side is back open. They currently have a limited menu with a note saying an expanded one is coming in October. Hmmmm. It's already October 21st. I asked about happy hour and was told it's $1 off drafts. I order an Odell Oktoberfest. The sign shows all craft beers being $4.50 but my total is $5. I ask about happy hour prices. It's only then the bartender tells me it's not on all drafts. So, not only did I not get happy hour prices, I get charged $.50 over the listed price. He offered to remake my drink that I accidentally spilled at the bar top, he was very kind and friendly to my friends and I when we were ordering our drinks.
