Oh yes, I heard about the fried chicken sandwich served here. I even saw two young, skinny coeds devouring them without any fear of future love handles. I hate them. However, the question at hand was whether I live in temporary blissful ignorance and order the same thing, or eat more wisely by ordering the $13 Pan Sears Chicken which came presumably pan seared. It's not the most welcoming place. There was an order window with nobody there, a few tables with chairs. It looked a bit like a prison lunch room. I decided on the Pan Sears Chicken which was indeed pieces of chicken thigh meat nicely seared. Although it was sprinkled with green onion, I wish the dish had more variety, so it didn't feel like I was eating a lotta chicken. My partner and I came here on a Saturday afternoon. There were a few people, but it wasn't crowded--we were able to get seats. We got the fried chicken sandwich and jumbo wings to share. The food took quite a bit of time if you're taking into account take out orders? The food seems to be made to order, which could have contributed to the wait time. I'm not sure if we just got a one off one, but the fried chicken sandwich was on the drier side. There were about 2 chicken pieces in the burger, but they were a little bit on the thinner side. I wish the chicken itself had more flavor? It didn't have much of a taste to it, and the pickle vegetables weren't that great with it either/didn't really add anything, and I'm usually a huge fan of Asian pickles. However, on this particular visit, I didn't like the food at all and didn't finish it. I placed an online order, and if I'm being honest, I think the food was ready a lot sooner than the time given and was just sitting. Chef Louie Chai did a thing here. He created Berkeley's best fried chicken sandwich. Angeline's isn't far away, and it holds the best fried chicken sandwich plate crown. So I propose we change the name of the street from Shattuck Avenue to Fried Chicken Boulevard. And the thick azz chicken is so very juicy and tender on the inside. The pickled papaya slaw is all that, a refreshingly original take. It adds up to umm, umm, umm. Did I mention that it's a sizable beast that requires a two-hand grip? Helluva sandwich. Meanwhile, the interior is decent enough, with a few tables offering passable but almost random seating and a little bit of decoration. If they could kill the fluorescents that would improve the sitch. There are a couple of small tables out front too. The service at the window isn't the fastest. I always wonder if there's more than one person back there taking orders and cooking. You might think that since the other menu items only rated 4 stars that this wouldn't be a 5-star joint. But you could only think that if you haven't had the fried chicken sandwich yet. Once you're the best in any category, you'd have to really blow it to not merit 5 stars. Now I need a face off. The hype is real. The chicken sandwich is like a fried chicken bhan mi with veggies. It's the crispiest sandwich with an extremely satisfying bite. Don't sleep on the Brussels, they're like pad Thai flavor brussel sprouts, so good. Sangria is also a banger. Hubby said it's the first time in a long time where everything was excellent. Satay tacos were packed with veggies and a delicious peanut sauce. Just know when you come you'll wait for your food. I think we waited around 25 minutes, but in our opinion, it was well worth it. Southside Station's very high Yelp rating put it near the top of my bucket list, so I was excited to try it last week. I ordered the Jumbo Thai Fried Chicken Wing Combo with Garlic Noodles. I did not have to wait in line to order, but I must have waited 20 minutes for my food to be ready. I didn't mind too much, though -- I figured the wait would be worth it. Unfortunately, the food and overall experience were just mediocre, leaving me pretty disappointed. The chicken was hot, but it was not flavorful. The garlic noodles were a little tastier, but still not anything special. The combo included a beverage. I rarely drink soda, so I paid extra to upgrade from a fountain drink to a peach Bundaberg. The best by date was a month and a half earlier. I would have asked for a different one had I still been there, although my guess is that many or all of their drinks were past the best by date. I had been tempted by the Coconut Mochi Butter dessert, but I showed restraint. If I'd had a better first visit, I'd get it next time. Instead, I don't anticipate making a return trip. read more

This place is conveniently located on Shattuck. I usually park a block or two off the side streets. The place is small but enough tables as people seemed to order togo or eat fast. It took awhile to get our food, but they were really nice. The chicken sandwich was notably tasty and crispy. The chicken wings were good and crispy too. My only gripe was that I felt totally lied to about the spaghetti for my daughter. It was totally tasteless. Onto the food, I ended up getting the chicken sando with curly fries. My combo also came with a diet coke. The sandwich was juicy and fried well (and also HUGE). The portion of chicken was quite generous! That said, I wish the batter/chicken was seasoned a bit more since it left something to be desired. Apparently there was a large ($500) order due shortly and it was taking up most of the cooking areas. Instagram brought me here, it did not disappoint one bit. I ordered sliders, garlic noodles, fries, regular chicken sandwich, and the wings. The service was quick and friendly, you have to order first and sit and wait. When I found out Southside Station had opened up in Berkeley, I was sad it wasn't there when I was attending college a few years back and lived right down the street from where it's at now. There's papaya and carrots included in the sandwich, and the brioche buns are so fluffy - it's smooth and melts into the mouth. 11/10 sandwich (and the sliders too! They're absolutely huge and a great meal to share!) HONORABLE MENTION: I also want to mention that the garlic noodles here are superior! So much flavor and always made fresh. Now let's talk the shop! The shop itself is pretty small, yet encapsulates that welcoming hometown feeling that many local businesses hold. I think it's really cute that there's a window to make orders inside, and I really like how simple the place operates. Staff here are always so kind and work extremely fast. I love walking in and immediately being hit with the smell of freshly made food. Prices for the food are so WORTH IT.
