Great place to grab a beer and watch the game. Kinda loud and usually busy this is a great neighborhood bar and grill.

I saw all the reviews on how good this restaurant is and you have to come and let me just say it's not that good. The whole experience just shocked me. Most reviews said that the service was good and the food was delicious. The service was okay. I ordered a French Onion Soup, Sausage and chicken gumbo, honey island chicken, and blueberry cobbler. None of it was super delicious at all. First off I ordered online and it told me that it would take thirty minutes to make all of the food. I got there five minutes late my fault. The food was poorly packaged the cobbler was spilling out of the container all over the bag. Also everything was ice cold I didn't notice this until I was half way back to the hotel and the cobbler and soup were spilling out of the container. Got back to the hotel and there was no to go silverware in the bag. I ask the lady if there was to go silverware in the bag and she said yes. Also what restaurant doesn't put to go silverware into a to go bag. The list of bad things goes on. The sandwich had way to much mayo on it. It was soggy bread mess just to much. You could badly taste the honey mustard. The onion soup wasn't that good and the crotons were soggy mushy mess in the soup. The cobbler was more like wet blueberry bread. The only good thing was the gumbo. The gumbo was ice cold but there was flavor. The onion rings also had good flavor but again they were ice cold. The flavor of the sandwich was okay once you scraped off the mayo. those were the only okay things. Also the Manager had a bad attitude when I called about the to go silverware and that the food was all cold. He said he couldn't do anything about it with a bad attitude . He didn't even say sorry it was like he couldn't care less. Bad manager service. Just over all bad. Nothing tasted like it was freshly made at all. I don't recommend coming here at all and I will not be returning. Just very disappointed! read more

If you ever visit Slidell, LA I highly recommend this restaurant. We started with the Crawfish Balls. They are deep fried crawfish meat and stuffing served with a very tangy remoulade sauce. For entrees I had the muffalatta and my companions opted for the Southern Fried Steak with Gravy and the Red Beans and Rice with Smoked Sausage. The Souuthern Fried steak was tasty. Served with a side of Vegatable and Beef Soup, also tasty. The Red Beans and rice were not the best we've had (and not nearly as good as I make it at home) but still quite good. An extra link of grilled sausage was served on the side as well as a piece of garlic bread and the sausage was delicious. The Muffalatte was clearly the star of the show. Served on seemingly fresh baked and slightly toasted bread, it was stuffed with ham, mortadella, genoa salami, provolone, and olive salad. The atmosphere was early Marine Corps and the restaurant included a full bar which was serving happy hour specials when we arrived. It was a large open area with hardwood floors, which made it quite loud, but the food was very good. read more

Highly recommend. Great food friendly staff and customers. Quick service and quick wait times when you have to wait.

I've come here a few times to watch a World Cup game and have been very pleasantly suprised. Their happy hour is awesome. $2 beer! I had the Yellowfin Tuna salad and it was amazing. They cooked it just like I wanted and the amount of tuna was impressive. The servers are friendly. read more

Service and food always great. Gets packed for dinner, so go early. Parking is easy. Wheelchair accessible. Wide variety of things to eat, but mostly seafood. read more

It seemed in Slidell there were not too many food options, but this one had such an appealing menu. We were seated immediately which was amazing because I was starving. I ordered a refreshing local beer because it was so hot. However, once I ordered my food I was very disappointed. I ordered the shrimp mufelleta. It almost seemed like a sauce was meant to be on it, but actually was not. I ended up just eating the shrimp as if it was popcorn shrimp with my ketchup from the fries. I appreciate that the serving is so large (like the size of my face) and that it is priced so incredibly well, but I barely ate a quarter of it because it was too dry. Aside from that, I did order a side of fries and mac and cheese. The fries were... well, just fries. But the mac and cheese stole the show, everyone was putting their forks into my mac and cheese. It was phenomenal, I just wished that the entree I had could have been at that level. It might have been just that particular meal, because everyone else in my party seemed to be raving about their dishes. Womp womp. If I had to come back here, I would definately order something else instead. read more

I ate lunch at the Southside Cafe in Slidell, LA on 2/10/2014. It was my first time there. Great food. I had half a Muffaletta for $9.99 (and it was huge - see photo) plus a Chicken & Sausage Gumbo for $3.99. My Coffee was $1.99 as was a Side of Coleslaw to go. The decor of the place is amazing (the owner is an ex-Marine) and my server, Cory, did a very good job. Plus, I took photos. read more

Just finished up our first meal here, I wasn't starving so I ordered a side salad (they have great honey mustard) and a bowl Of chicken and sausage gumbo, the gumbo was awesome! My fiancé ordered the shrimp basket, with a salad and chicken/sausage gumbo, the basket had tons of shrimp in it and was very good, I had to try a couple. :) The atmosphere is really cool, great decor! Also, our server was very sweet. We will be back! Apparently they have brunch all day Sundays so we may come back on a Sunday for that! read more

We recently ate here while vacationing in Slidell, and I must say I was very impressed. I love the story behind the restaurant as I am a former military wife, and unfortunately now a Gold Star widow. I'm always looking for was to continue to support the extensive military community that supports me. The food was delicious, service was great even with it being packed, and everything came out in a timely manner. Our server was super nice, and though he didn't write down our order (being a chef myself this always makes me nervous), he got it 99% right. He did fix his mistake though, and that's all I really needed him to do. I love the system they have in place for waiting for your table! They text you when it's ready, which made it easy to grab a drink from the bar and relax outside during the wait. If we come back to Slidell, we will probably visit this place again! read more

This is a great place for Slidell, LA We always start with the Spinach dip and fried pita chips. The portions are always generous, and the service is fairly quick...especially since it is always packed to the gill. The first time I went...I had a burger which was delicious, and huge. This time...I got a local favorite...Hamburger steak and fries. My dad got a shrimp po-boy which was over flowing with shrimp, and my mom got a patty melt which she had a hard time finishing. The food is a little on the salty side, but super good!! read more

Southside Cafe - Delicious Hamburger Steak smothered in Roast Beef gravy - American Near Me - Slidell, Louisiana

I didn't see anyone at the cafe who looked like they were leaving hungry, and I sure didn't. I read the reviews below and thought that Hamburger Steak sounded good. One of my two traveling partners had the same and the other tried the stuffed shrimp. We'd started with a pitcher of Abita Pale and an order of calimari. I had the vegetable beef soup of the day and the other two had gumbo. Good food and plenty of it. The bill was less than I expected and we left satisfied. read more

We ordered to go, they took longer than the time we were told it would take. Were very short and unfriendly to us while we were there to pick up the food. Once we came home we were so hungry we ate this slop anyway instead of returned the food, but needless to say, we won't be back. read more

Wow!! Sums it all up! Wow just simply wow. Amazing food amazing service and amazing carry-out.

Great service fast and right. We have been eating here for over 30 years. There is no better place in Slidell.

So I personally wouldn't come here again. The food is bland and not really anything special. They so have a good assortment on their menu. The staff is friendly and helpful. I personally don't think it's worth a valuable meal in my life. read more

The service was really great!. Our server was really sweet. However, the time spent waiting for a table and the food was not worth our time. It was close to 3 hours we spent on supper. read more

Headed home from NOLA and needed lunch so we found Southside Cafe and we are so glad we did! We ordered the French Onion Soup, Stuffed Mushrooms, Bayou Bird, Big Mo Jamma, and a Bloody Mary! Everything exceeded my expectations! If you come through Slidell, do not pass up this food! It was amazing, and our bill was surprisingly cheap after ordering all of this food! I just wish we lived closer! read more

Very good food. Atmosphere is awesome. Sat the bar with some locals. So glad I chose this place.

Excellent service and great food. We had the eggplant sticks, spinach dip, club sandwich and tuna steak. An order of fries is huge.

We love south side. Great food, great atmosphere and all at a good price. We bring out of town guest here often!

Very good service and atmosphere. Everything on the menu is good. Make sure that you go there hungry bc it's a lot of food!

All the food is too spicey. It all tastes the same. If you like spicey food with alot of black pepper in it, then you would like it. I prefer to taste my food. read more

Probably my husbands favorite place and I can find a good chicken dish also. The soups are great also. The bushwacker is a great frozen drink. I thought it was pretty great that when I checked in I got a 15% off coupon. read more

While visiting my parents my husband found this restaurant. It was exceptional and the staff was great. It was Black Friday and was packed but everything was delicious. This was my first visit but it surely will not be my last. read more

We ate there last night, service was terrible- food was mediocre. Not what I expected! Server was more concerned with the larger party because I'm sure she thought her tip would be bigger. She neglected us, and hence got minimal tip- which honestly should have been no tip. The seafood platter was less than desirable. Fish were mushy and not even salted. Oysters were watery and disgusting, and soft shell crab weren't seasoned at all. Fried shrimp were ok. Not what I expect for a place that claims to know southern & creole food! read more

When we first moved to Slidell we ate Southside twice a week. It just never gets old! It's home cooking at an affordable price. The fried mushrooms are delicious! All of the beef tastes like high quality steak. Roast beef poboys are great and the seafood is SUPER fresh! We could eat here all the time. We also love that they are US military supporters!! read more

The food was DELICIOUS! Service was great! Home made dressing DELICIOUS! I had the seafood/chicken gumbo with potato salad!Yummy!!

If there is someplace on La coast with a more extensive menu, better food, and cute waitresses, I want to see it. Everything I have had is good. Gumbo is exceptional. Has big tribute to military on walls. Great. read more

We are vacationing in the Gulf Shores area. Drove to New Orleans for the day. on our drive back saw the sign on I-10 for this cafe. we always like to try different places for dinner. honestly, if not for the small signs with arrows we might not have found it. So glad we did! Good, clean atmosphere. Our server Nicole was great. We started by trying the Cheeseburger soup. tasted great. Our table ordered burgers, killa chili cheese fries, reuben, French dip and Philly cheese steak sandwiches. also had the daily special of corned beef and cabbage. It was all so good! only bad comment is we were too full to try dessert! will definitely add to our list to go back any time we are in the area read more

I said I'd go back when I was next in Slidell and I did- and I'm glad! This past visit was a much better experience and I wanted to share it with my fellow yelpers. I updated the number of stars from the last visit from three to four- and, it is actually a bigger jump that the stars represent. The last visit, truth be told, was more of a two and a half and this one was a four and a half. This visit I had my wife and adult daughter with me so we were able to sample more of a variety- glad we did! The wife had the Irish Channel Gumbo and it was very good. My daughter had the crawfish Po boy and it was also very good. I had the Brisket Burger, and sadly, it was only average. I mean the taste was good, but nothing to write home about or recommend it to anyone. It was just an average burger and since I am a burger nut, I was expecting so much more. The first issue I had was presentation. The burger is served open face and the patty was considerably smaller than the bun- this is a big no-no and a burger faux pas. It is just visually unappealing. I'd rather have a smaller bun so that it looked better. We did have Onion Rings for an appetizer and the kitchen nailed it! They were excellent! You next visit to Southside you have got to try them. Now for the service: the last time I visited the service was excellent; this time, not so much. Our server wasn't rude or bad, she was more ambivalent. My daughter commented after she took our order "what's up with Ms. Personality?" So, the service was a bit slow and not really friendly- we'll live. I chalk it up to everyone has bad days. To summarize: I'm glad I went back and I'm glad that I can change my rating for SC. I'm usually in Slidell for work for two weeks at a time and that equates to about 12 evening meals out. My next trip I will dedicate at least one and probably more to Southside Cafe. read more

This place seems to be a local favorite. We have gone two times. Let's start with what I liked: Food portions are large, appetizers are really good, and the price for portions is great. We also had really nice waiters both times. What I don't like: the main entrees are good but just not great. I wanted it to be good so we could have another place to take people to when they visit, but I just don't love it. It's the combination of ingredients and possibly the quality but something is off. I got the Tuesday special which was spaghetti and meatballs. Huge portion size! Sauce and noodles were great but the meatballs tasted like day old meatloaf rolled into a ball. It was so close to being great but the meatballs ruined it. I got the pork sandwich the next time. Pork was tender, bbq sauce, and coleslaw were good, but they put a cheese on it that over powered the entire sandwich. It's a place worth trying who knows maybe you will love it everyone else seems to but I don't. read more

I had the sirloin for steak night tonight and it was cooked to PERFECTION!!!! My baked potato was loaded, hot & delicious! The atmosphere was GREAT! Sports on Everywhere!!!! Awesome for a chick who likes them!!! My 2 year old daughter loved the salad which she's never had before, lol. We will definitely be back because we are REGULARS. Oh! and the prices are FAIR. So go to Southside Cafe for some good food & drinks, you WON'T REGRET IT!!!! read more
