We were looking for a local place., and felt like we found it here at Southside. Loved seeing all the veterans mementos and family story on the walls. We started with the crawfish balls. While they were nothing to write home about, the remoulade sauce that accompanies them is the stuff of dreams! Just enough bite with the mustard...I could have licked the bowl clean. My companion had the muffuletta sandwich (pro tip: a full muffuletta is enough to feed 4 people) and said it was just right. I had the oysters and shrimp, with a cup of the seafood gumbo. Everything was fresh and delicious-just far more food than I could eat. Extensive menu...my companion wants to go back the next time we are in the area to explore the menu more. read more

Great Vibe along with great food! And The Service is top of the line! A must go for anyone who has never been there!

We wanted one last lunch in New Orleans before we left but didn't want to deal with getting downtown so off to the suburb of Slidell we went! A quick yelp search, thanks fellow yelpers brought this restaurant to my attention. The food was excellent! Prices were very fair and service was fantastic! This is definitely a local favorite, was Getting crowded quite early! read more

Good food and good people since i started going here in 1999. The fried shrimp po-boy and fries-yummy!

This restaurant has ALOT of food to choose from. The menu is huge. I didn't really care for the bar service but it was the only thing available due to tables not being cleaned. It was very big inside, parking should never be a problem. It was a one time visit for me. read more

Good food. Odd dishes like potato salad in gumbo - but so very delicious. Friendly service. Good seating options.

Stopped in for dinner. Had half a muffaletta and half of a seafood muffaletta. They were both very yummy. Service was ok. If you are in Slidell, please stop by. read more

Very popular place. Which sometimes overloads the servers. They do work hard. The daily specials are very good. The bar also fills up. So plan accordingly as it is a good time. read more

Food is awesome and all employees great you with a great smile! Always a nice welcoming environment. Love the soups.

This will be a no for me! The food takes FOREVER and I mean FOREVER! The place is busy and loud! Best part my appetizer was good. My daughter got served her sandwich waaaaaay after everyone else! The burger comes with no side! The food is mediocre at best! The place is not an ambiance I would ever enjoy! The service is slow and I mean it!! They do have a kids meal but it's nothing to write home about. We will not go again!! read more

The reason I love Yelp is finding great places to eat while traveling. We stopped at Southside Cafe on the way home from a New Orleans mardi gras trip. I ordered the crawfish balls to start then a burger/fries. The crawfish balls were good. There were four in the basket and they were enough to fill me up. I also tried the eggplant and that was wonderful. Another person ordered the patty melt and commented that was the patty melt she's waited all her life for.... I left with a full belly and a good nap for the road. read more

Fabulous local spot in Slidell! HUGE menu! Something for everyone, no doubt. Sometimes it is hard to pick what you will want to eat! I highly recommend their poboys (have seeded poboy bread). They have a very good French onion soup! Fantastic full bar, great selection! Would highly recommend planning on waiting during peak times, just sheet because they are such a solid restaurant in Slidell. Enjoy! read more

This is our third time here in about three years so four years. We don't get to slide out often. Southside Café is where I want to go. I always enjoy the fried seafood. Today I had something totally different. I enjoyed the tossed salad with micro greens, shaved, red onion, radishes, and cucumber and topped with Pacific tuna, which was perfectly cooked. I like it rare. It was excellent except for the nerves in the pieces of tuna. I like the fact they make their dressings in house, however the ranch (delicious) is made with mayonnaise, which I believe has either corn syrup or sugar or both and (for health reasons) I can't have either right now. I forgot to ask and I feel lousy today because of eating it. I like the rustic down home feel of Southside Café. Sitting in the comfortable chairs and looking at all that wood it feels like I'm back to a kinder, happier time. read more

Great place. Even during the 'pandemic' they were open and busy. Food is great. I highly recommend.

My wife looked at the menu briefly and thought I might like it. I ordered the chicken & sausage gumbo for starters. Brief backstory-I HATE okra. Or at least I thought I did. I tore that gumbo UP!!!!! Then, I had 1/2 chicken. AMAZING!!! Nicely seasoned, piping hot, and juicy!!! I also had a taste of the roast beef. Once again, AMAZING! I would've added pictures, but it would have only been of the aftermath! From one veteran to another, job well done! HOOAH!!! read more

Everything was great!! Food was fantastic as well as the service. Atmosphere was lively and fun.

1/6/20 came here thanks to yelp and all the great reviews and raves about this spot. It definitely didn't disappoint, I wasn't sure what to order as so many things looked delicious on the menu. Finally I ordered the Irish channel gumbo and it was soo good! I'm usually not a fan of food that looks like it could be served to prisoners but this was well worth it. I also had the bread pudding and that hit the nail on the head. So tasty, so moist, oohey goowey yumminess. My server was super busy but attentive and I appreciated her suggestions. Overall, a great place and delicious food with a fun atmosphere. Will most definitely return if ever in the area. read more

We ate regulars here. They are now surcharging for credit cards which is their prerogative but the minimum tip on their table side machine is 25%. That's of the surcharge amount, yes there is a other amount but you have to calculate the dollar amount which I did for the base ticket amount. Rip off. read more

The Pick up area for picking up your food is in a bad area. You have to stand behind seated customers. Than you have to stand their until you get acknowledge. I purchase a shrimp and oyster po boy. The sandwich tasted horrible the grease was dirty. The sandwich was 8inches long. The oysters was burnt and greasy the shrimp was greasy and tasteless. The cost of this nasty baby Po boy was $19.56. The gas stations po boy taste better than this Garbage see pics read more

Everything was incredible. I'm very rarely blown away by a restaurant. The portions are huge and delicious. The seafood mufalletta was huge and delicious. The service was great and fast. It's difficult to express how great this place is. The icing on the top is that the place is filled with Military memorabilia, portraits of service members and model planes. So the decor is very patriotic and beautiful.I love everything about this place. read more

We were on a trip going through Louisiana, we got the Regular and the seafood gumbo, i liked the regular gumbo. The seafood one tasted like dirty fish water! I've never had gumbo and was super excited to try it for the first time, but my expectations were not met. Service was ok, the lady that made our order was super nice but the other two weren't the greatest. The ambiance was great! They had marine decor everywhere and the whole town supported the marines, so that touched my heart! read more

It was my first time here the food was really good the staff was nice .I was seated pretty quickly, but the reason I didn't give 5 stars is because the food does take a bit to come out, even if it's appetizers. I don't normally eat in Slidell but I am glad I did. This place has super fun decor and some military tributed walls with memorabilia. I came here for a late lunch on a Saturday and it was pretty packed for an odd time. I heard that this place is a party central at night as well. I ordered the fried seafood and everything was spectacular from the service to the food. My favorite was the french onion soup. I keep thinking about that broth. I know it is an unusual thing to order at a seafood place, but I was craving it, ordered it and now I am still craving it. That broth. There is plenty of parking outside and it is right near the new Middendorfs. If you had handicapt people with you, there is a ramp on the side of the restaurant as well. read more

We were on a long RV vacation and were in Pensacola several days following the coastline West back towards Texas. In lieu of NOLA we opted for Slidell.
