It's pretty ghetto inside and you get annoying women who talk on their cell phone while they're getting a pedi. Rude. I wanted to tell her that no she's not hot and whoever said it was effin blind or played an April Fool's joke on her. Oh, the pedi. It was quick and I feel like the lady just kinda blew through it. I'm not picky though, so whatever, I guess. They do the typical Vietnamese chatting amongst one another instead of being pleasantly quiet or attempt to conversate with the client. I asked for French so she did my tips w/o asking if it was the correct size/shape. I had to stop her and ask her to fix it. Not impressed at all with the facilities, staff, and patrons. Also, it was NOT worth $25 w/o tip. That pricing is for a nice salon in SF, not some hood ass salon in a strip mall where Dollar Tree is right around the corner. read more

Do not to here! Am a mom of 2 with a full time job. Though it may be nice to go and get a mani pedi for the first time and 2 years. Called and scheduled an appointment. Came in and was ignored for 15 minutes. No greeting or recognition by anyone. Then, these two dudes come in, they are greeted, they take seats, and start getting manicures. Ugh. Terrible service, overbooked. Waited an hour and a half to be seated and another 30 before they started my nails. They did a great job on my nails but I come to nail salons to relax not be treated poorly and unattended to. The lady who I believe was the manager was very rude to me when I asked how much longer before I could be helped. This is my favorite & the best place to go to get your nails done! Carol & Ken are the owners. You'll probably find Carol there more. They also own another nail shop in Westborough called Carol's Nails. The best nail people at either shop are: Carol, Ken, both Cindy's (there are two of them & they are both great!) There are a couple of other girls that do nails really well there, but I don't know their names....SORRY! An appointment is not mandatory, but they have a bunch of regulars - the wait can be bit long if you go at the wrong time. Also, my fills (gel or acrylic) last forever! For the first time in my life. No one was talking bad about my hands. Helen was the one who did my nail. She tried to be gentle with my nails since I had to remove a previous nails that was done somewhere else. Noramlly at a normal salon its mostly vietnamese people who isnt aware that I know how to speak vietnamese. They will talk bad about me in their language. Don't come here to have acrylic gel nails taken off! I came really quick to get them done but so was the lady who did my nails. She just trimmed and torn them off like she didn't give a care in the world, all she did was look around the room and tried to finish as fast as she could even though it wasn't that busy. She went so fast that it even hurt and I even said it but she neglected it and just went a little slower, but it want much of a difference. She later even filed them without looking! I know it's just filing but at least have the courtesy to look at my nails. After she literally yanked off my nails, she cut them so uneven and short!! And I know my real nail wasn't that short. The lady couldn't even file my nails because after staring at them later on they were crooked and more messed up than I did when I got there. So don't come here EVER!! This is a fabulous salon. I always get fast, friendly service and they do an awesome job. I had my first service on New Year's Eve and it was my first time getting pink & white gels. They looked fabulous and I have been going ever since. I live in Sacramento and my sister lives in Pacifica and she first recommended the salon. I now travel down from Sacramento to keep mynails maintained. Although they do walk-ins, just make sure you make an appointment because they are always very busy. read more

Worst nail experience ever. I came here because I was given a gift certificate and will never go back. For starters, they left me sitting for 40 minutes with my feet soaking in cold water while they quickly tended to what I assume are regular clients. I walked in with gorgeous long natural nails, and told the woman doing my manicure it was okay to even them out. She then proceeded to file them down to nothing!! It was my bad that I didn't notice that this was going on because the woman doing my pedicure was trying to get me to buy some sandals they sell there for a dollar and not taking no for an answer when I said nevermind about painting my toenails. When I looked at my hand as I was now hurriedly being shuffled to another table while trying to put on my shoes and grab my purse, I was appalled to see that my nails had all been chopped off and filed into a disgusting square shape. I did get the woman doing my manicure to at least shape them back into the oval shape they had when I walked in, which resulted in them being even shorter. What happened to asking your client these basic questions? Or at least taking cues from how their nails already look?? My nails were obviously filed and well maintained so they must have been like that for a reason. Halfway through painting my nails the woman doing them got up and another one took over; like not even in between hands or coats. All in all a horrible experience. I don't have my toes painted and I wish I had just done my nails myself, then I would have the long pretty red nails I envisioned. read more

My friends and I went here for the first time and will NEVER be returning . Let me just start by saying if you critique your nails in any way they up charge you and purposely hurt you. NO ONE should give there money to these people . We were all told multiple times first over the phone before we wasted time and money driving there and it states on there board that they charge for $35 for a full set gel well nope it's $40-$60 whatever they feel like charging you in that moment mind you I got nothing fancy just basic one color gel set . My friend who was sitting right next to me is a cosmo student and out of curiosity asked her nail lady ( Kim ) weather she finds using a bigger brush easier to apply acrylic rather then the small ones and Kim looked away and talked to someone else without acknowledging or answering the question . She kept talking to someone who I assume was a regular client behind her and not acknowledging or caring about the one she was working on , our acrylic is a mess lumpy , un even , etc . There unsanitary , they had a clear garbage bag full of the pieces of dirty tissue they weave between people toes on the nail counter where they help clients .The woman helping me was nice , but she had old real human finger nails in the corners of the boxes were she kept her nail tools . Walked in today for a manicure/pedicure. I thought I'd try it since it is close by where I live. Got in right away. The lady that did my nails was very nice and quick, but she just went on and on and on talking to the other employee next to her in their own language. This usually does not bother me but it felt like they were talking about me the whole time. First let me say that I've been a client here since 1995 so it saddens me to write this review, but enough is simply enough. I think that the manager there (Cindy) has forgotten how to treat customers. Appointment times NEVER kept! Rude innuendo from her in person and over the phone, and all of her staff make and take personal phone calls in the middle of their work. Ridiculous! The environment is dirty and disheveled. I kept coming because of convenience and familiarity and also because I adore the owner, Carol. Unfortunately, Carol is hardly there anymore as she spends more time at her other businesses. Southland was a nicer place when she was more present and at the helm. I honestly think that Cindy and her staff don't care what the clients think, because we just keep coming back, but no more for me. Although I have been coming to this place for many years, my last visit was not pleasant where they forget to shape your nails to the desire shape and length as requested. In addition, when they speak in their native tongue in front of the customers, usually they are talking or laughing about something unpleasant. That's what happened to me. The girl laughed to her coworker pointing out things about me that was obvious even when she spoke in a different language. The quality of the finished product on my nails was far from average. This is the nail salon I have been going to for the past few years since I moved to San Bruno. I usually call ahead and make an appointment with Mei. This last time I went a few days ago I was so disappointed I will not be going back. I had to wait 40 mins before I was seated and because I have a baby at home I can't stay out long so I was trying to help her out By cutting and shaped my own nails while she gave me a pedicure. I also cut my toenails before I went to her. So basically all she had to do was cut my cuticles and paint them. My toes turned out ok but when it came to my nails she didn't bother to clean under them and they were painted badly. To top the entire visit off I asked her for a pumice stone to purchase so o can scrub my feet when I'm home at home. She said they didn't have anymore this was the third time I have gone in and asked them for it. My mother in law went to get her nails done an hour later and I told her to ask them to sell her a pumice stone and they gave her 2 for free!!!!! I don't get it! Why was I discriminated against?! So I don't think they deserve my business anymore I will take it elsewhere! I hope they read this review too and realize what they did was messed up! read more

Ok first of all I want to say I love this place! I have gone to other places and they just do not last like they do when I go to southland! My mom has been going to them for 17 years and has never gone anywhere else! They are all great here cindy carol phuong van both kims rosie..... All of them! My one year old son even likes them! The pedicures are great the gel is great cindy does a great job doing the gel with the pretty glitter tips and I just started getting manicures and I love it! She did a great job with my cuticles and they always impress me! I even get my eyebrows done here and you can go to any one of them to do them and they all do a great job! New to the area and tried this place out today. I never trust a new place with anything other than a color change so went in a requested that. The waiting chairs were greasy looking! They were not very friendly. An older lady painted my nails and did an ok job, slightly better than I would have done. She had tools that were clearly used next to her and another lady came by and took them to her station to use! The lady painting my nails had some fungus too I think! There were green spots on her nails... Don't know what it was so you interpret how you like. The drying area was dirty and old looking. I will not be returning! If you want crooked short messed up nails come for a visit! I just left the salon after getting a fill I walked in with long nails came out with short. When I told them I didn't like them she acted like she didn't understand English however she did understand17 dollars that she charged me. The girl who did my nails filed them down into perfect squares urggg Cindy tried to fix them by rounding them but now I have round stubs that I've paid 17 for so I tell her she needs to fix them and she says if I make them longer you need to pay I look at her like she's nuts and I say no your lady filed my long nails why would I pay and she says I can't do anything so I tell her you messed up my nails I want my money back and she says no she then calls the owner who yells at me for 20 minutes and I say I'm going to call my bank and then she says you pay 10 I credit you 7 and I say ok fine but I'm never coming back so she charges another 10 and then won't credit the 17 omg so I tell her I'm calling the police how stupid and petty they are crazeeeeee Never going back and I tell her I've been coming here since you opened the doors since before you had your son but now you don't remember me??? Needless to say the police had her credit the transaction and I will never go back. I've become a regular here for mani/pedis since it's close to where I live. It helps to get to know some of the people because they become more attentive to you. Terrible service and business practice. I had been going here for years. The last time, the technician cut me so bad she could not stop the bleeding even with the powder they use. I asked to talk to the manager. The technician told the manager at first she didn't do anything, but when she looked at the customers who were seated near me, she confessed. I am not sure why she used the utencil to trim the cuticles to cut my nails instead of toe nail clippers in the firstplace. first place she is not new. I had seen her many times. The manager cleaned up the wound and put on a band aid. I figured that there was a form to fill out to document this since I would need to call Kaiser. I was then given the run around by the person who they said was the owner. Instead of a simple apology, she got loud and said they do not have any forms. Mistakes happen. This was unacceptable. This is a great nail shop that has expanded since the last time I was there about 5-6 years ago. They are THE place to go for gel sets and fills. I was there recently for them to fix the gel set I got somewhere else. Always friendly. There's times where they rush you out the door that the your nail is not filed down smooth. Nails are still rough because of excess acrylic not filed down properly. They even file your nail to narrow to the point where it doesn't even look right. As if they assume you were born with narrow nails rather than being different than everyone else's nail contour and shape. read more

But since I was spending some time with my best friend and she wanted to do her mani and pedi, I went ahead and have them do my mani too. I told the lady I only want a mani and I have my own nail polish. She did not look happy because it was not an expensive service AND then just kept bashing on my nail polish choice (Sally Hansen Gel). She did my nails for I would say about 10 minutes and did not even make a conversation with me. Last weekend was the last time that I'll ever go to Southland again. I've been going there off and on for years but always do so as a last resort. I had to have the lady redo my nail polish 3 times - yes, 3 times. I'm one of those people that HATES to ask to have something redone or fixed because I feel bad. I can't understand how a nail salon employs someone who doesn't know how to apply nail polish. That's as basic as you can get. I'm not sure that all of the tools they used on me were sterilized properly and overall I was just disgusted with the lack of cleanliness at that place. And they only accept cash tips which is a huge inconvenience for customers. I tip much much more when it's on my card. read more

When I walked in, the nail salon looked nice and clean. Cleanliness is one of the first things I look for in a nail salon. The lady asked me politely what I wanted to get done. I got a full set of pink and white nails and a pedicure. I was surprised to see how well the lady did my nails. It was done quickly. She was fun to talk to and the service was great. Offering set appointments and accepting Walk-Ins is not managed well here. It's not uncommon for your services to begin an hour after your scheduled "appointment", due to Walk-Ins being weaved into the schedule. That's a problem. The skill of the nail techs is very inconsistent, as well. The owner is excellent and very pleasant, but rarely there, so requesting her isn't an option. Requesting an appointment with a specific nail tech seems to be frowned upon. I learned this the hard way. I was re-assigned to another nail tech for polish removal, filing, etc. and my requested nail tech only polished my nails, scolding me throughout. Another time I requested an appointment with a specific nail tech it only got me ignored, glared at and treated rudely. Since this experience should be pleasant, calming and indulgent, and it's anything but, it's time for me to look for another nail salon...for myself, as well as the many Bridal Parties I've referred to Southland Nails. read more
