Waitstaff was wonderful. Wasn't sure what to expect going in but everything was amazing. I always judge a place by getting shrimp and grits, if they have it on the menu. I would say this is the best version of that dish I had ever had. They nailed it. Plenty of food. I had to bring some home and it was just as good the next day, if not better as the flavors set in. We went with some friends that frequent the establishment every week or two and they did not disappoint. I do not understand the 1 or 2 stars. I finally ventured into this establishment after placing my order over the phone. First, let me say DEVIN is such a well mannered and respectable young man. He took my order, along with all requests with the upmost respect and patience. I ordered the Catfish Dinner with Okra and Macaroni/Cheese. Unfortunately, They were out of Macaroni/Cheese. Not what we were expecting tonight. It's decent but not an establishment where we will dine in anymore. 1. The service is slow. Don't know if they're understaffed or what but it took a long time for a waiter to come to the table. 2. The atmosphere is ok. It's not fancy, very comfortable. You can probably come as you are. They have a wine display of basic wines with blue LED lights it, so you can kind of gather what I'm saying. It almost gives off Chinese or Italian restaurant vibes. 3. The food. We ordered the Fried Green Tomatoes for starters then Catfish Opelousas and the Combo platter with the catfish, fried shrimp, fried chicken wings, red beans and rice and onion rings. The fried green tomatoes were garbage. The Catfish Opelousas we gave a 5 out of 10 because they didn't have any dirty rice to go with it and the crawfish cream sauce wasn't all that. It was too tangy for some reason. On the Combo Platter the chicken wings had no flavor, but the fish and shrimp on both dishes had good flavor. The red beans and rice were tasty and the onion rings were seasoned well. Overall if we did order again, it would be for fried fish and shrimp with maybe some red beans and rice. Great friendly service, nice interior and good looking food items. I ordered the turkey leg stuffed with dirty rice and side of cabbage and fried okra. $25. The turkey key was salty but the rice helped it. There's small pieces of bone in the rice so watch out for that. The Turkey leg was tender and juicy. The cabbage was just right and the fried okra was crunchy and good. Daughter liked her chicken and waffles. The kids version has fries and uses chicken tenders. My husband had wings with waffles and 2 sides (red beans & rice -- you can see the whole beans vs the crushed version and also a side of cabbage). They do sell alcohol but we stuck with sweet tea. Evidently, this place has been open since Feb 2022. I wish we would have known about it b4. You can smell the seasoning in the parking got before you walk in. Already a good sign!! OMG!!! The confused state this place has left me in is enough to drive a guy crazy!!! So, we pulled up to Southern Soul LLC restaurant about 30 minutes before they closed at 3pm. The "Open" sign was off, which might have been the universe's way of saying, not here, not today. I assumed they were closed and began searching for an alternate lunch location, when another couple walked in. "Oh, so they ARE open," I thought aloud. As we walked in, we were greeted with a smooth ambience, and soft jazz playing in the background. I was happy. This was going to be good. Or so I thought. We were promptly seated. The waiter was attentive and very friendly. When it was time order, my wife ordered the Cajun Pasta. I had been studying the menu for about 5 minutes and had narrowed my order to the Smothered Fried Chicken. A Southern staple. As he turned to me, I ordered. "Sorry, we are out of Chicken," he said. My soul was crushed. "No chicken!!" (in the TikTok Chic-fila girls voice). I panicked as I scanned the menu for an alternate option. "I'll take the Hamburger with Fries," I stated sadly. "We are out of buns," he said softly. I could sense the shame in the admission. "No buns???" Was he effing with me? My panic turned into full blown anxiety as I searched the menu for an alternate to the alternate. I felt the pressure of his gaze as he waited for me to decipher what they actually had in stock on the menu. It felt like a high stakes game of Russian Roulette. Would I chose the wrong one again!? I came close to not ordering when I said, "I'll take the chicken wings with fries. You could feel the tension in the air as he stated, "Sorry, I don't believe we have wings either!" My head was spinning. How could have chosen the three items on the menu they didn't have!!! "Do you have the Turkey Legs," I growled. If he said no, I was not going to order anything at all. "Yes," he replied. It felt like winning a billion dollar lottery. "I'll have the turkey legs with the dirty rice and cornbread." He took my order and went to walk away before doubling back. "If there are wings, would you prefer the wings to the Turkey legs," he asked. "Yes," I answered. "But with fries and the corn bread," I responded. He hurried to the kitchen to place the order and I sat there reeling from the most high pressure food order I had ever placed. About 15 minutes later, my wife's Cajun pasta came out. "Your's will be right out," the waiter unintentionally lied. I tasted my wife's pasta as I waited. It was INCREDIBLY delicious! Every bite was heavenly. I couldn't wait to taste my wings. 15 minutes later I was still waiting. One of the staff members came out to pretending to clean one of the unused tables and inconspicuously brought the kitchen snafu in which my wings had been accidentally given away to someone who had placed an online order. The chef not knowing there were two orders of wings never made the 2nd order and so I had to wait another 15 minutes. My wife was done with her meal when they brought my wings out sans the fries. The waiter had opted to bring the dirty rice with my wings. Luckily I got the corn bread too. If those wings wouldn't have been as delicious as they were, I would have given this place one star, But what I can say is that everything we ate here, from the fried green tomatoes appetizer, to the Peach Cobbler dessert, everything was delicious. Will we be back, I'm on the fence. As amazingly tasty as the food was, I didn't enjoy the experience. Maybe next time will be better. We shall see Oh and PS: I got a broken straw too. The price of the entrees and add ons are over priced. Staff were under staffed leaving it up to two very young inexperienced lady's to take care of the entire dining room with seating, ordering, serving, take out, and check out. By the way, she also served as the waitress because she was the only staff other than the Cook whose name was Karen. We tried the crab cakes, if you like just dough, you can eat that there was no lump crab in there, which is stated on the menu, also we tried the sausage shrimp gumbo had a nice taste to it. So now let's move onto the fried ribs you get four long ribs that really didn't have a taste and then we went onto the cabbage. I'm a cabbage lover, and it was kind of mushy just means she cooked it a little long. But it had a nice taste to it. The catfish was fried crispy and it tasted really nice, the fries were crispy like we like them and the tea is very good so all in all, you should really try this place they do have some, nice qualities about them, the hostess is delightful. She'll tell you little stories about when they first started the restaurant and she keeps you laughing. I really enjoyed her. The food has a nice taste to work on the spices. Everything was perfectly seasoned, perfectly cooked and so flavorful without being overly salty. The reviews about the food being over seasoned was laughable. If you think the food here is over seasoned you probably have the blandest food at your house. The peach cobbler was fantastic! It's a classic old fashioned peach cobbler so if you're looking for gross gummy biscuits look elsewhere. This is the real deal!
