What began well as a total yard revamp has left us disappointed and frustrated. Southern Landscaping selected the plants, planted them and installed a new irrigation system. A large number of the plants did not even survive 4 months. When I reached out to the President by snail mail, I received no reply. My designer at the firm knew of my concerns and was going to assist me, but then she dropped off the radar. This lack of customer support is appalling, especially considering the size of our project. I could not recommend this firm and I don't feel we received value for our investment. read more

Most of the reviews on Yelp are ancient; this one is April 2024. I had them bid on a 14 foot long, 4 foot high retaining wall in mid-Feb. The representative (Colleen) came to my home soon after the request, did an outstanding job of explaining various designs, discussed the engineering plans in detail, and gave a ball-park cost estimate. The full estimate came a few days later and was within the ball park. I accepted the bid late Feb. Work was scheduled for first of April (to fit within much larger jobs) and was completed when scheduled. It was a two day job with excellent clean-up after. The Project Manager (Aaron) was present much of both days and helped get a prompt estimate for a project add-on. The work is excellent. In context I had two other bids. One wanted to build something I did not want and the other appeared competent but was more expensive than Southern Landscape. read more

My wife and I searched for a landscaper to help us build out our flagstone patio in the backyard and came across Southern Landscape. They created some amazing concepts however the quoted costs were over our initial budget discussed (the drawings truly were beautiful though). Jason (the owner) reached out via email and phone to address the miscommunication around our budget and properly handled the situation. Although we didn't use SL on this project we hope to use them for others, their work is truly beautiful. read more

We paid good money for a design, but without asking what we wanted, Colleen gave us a very terrible design that was way out of our budget. We asked for edits, but never heard back. Finally, after sending a message through their site, Shannon sent us a PDF of the design, but it was useless because it was inaccurate and un-editable. We received an estimate to have some landscape work done on our backyard. The process of obtaining the estimate was easy enough, however, the proposal came back 3X higher than the next highest proposal we received. We priced out 3 different landscape designers. Also, getting questions answered took a long time while we were in the design process. All in all, we now have a design we paid $600 for, but we are saving tens of thousands of dollars by going to a reasonable landscaper. read more

I was in the parking lot of McDonalds on Thorton Road this morning eating my breakfast to take my meds and the 2 employees come over by my car and start blowing debris all over the car so i blew the horn. The one acts like he doesn't speak English and the other one that does says what like it's no big deal. I proceeded to tell him why would they do that cause it can cause damage to my car he proceeded to tell me that hes been in the business 20 years and that it couldn't so I said i don't care how long you been in the business doesn't mean rocks can't fly up and hit the car and he's getting paid to do a job like I'm not a paying customer. He could have asked me to move in a polite way but that's too much like right because he had a nasty attitude. I told him he was disrespectful and he waved me off like it was know big deal. I say this to the owners of this company train your employees to be mindful of other peoples property the next time he might actually succeed at damaging someone else's property. read more

Unfortunately I didn't consider all the reviews and went with the sales pitch I got that made me think someone would be in complete charge of every aspect of our job. That was not the case. Communication was very poor and many times never knew when people would show up. I thought everything was pretty detailed until it wasn't. The landscaping part was pretty good. We had a lot of clearing that needed to be done and planned on doing replacement of plants, grass etc, but due to drought we couldn't so we postponed that. All the planters and bed are overgrown again so I'll have to pay someone to come in and clear that once more. The worst part is that they replaced my outdoor countertop and took measurements but never gave us drawings or explained that they were cutting the counter differently from what was there. A crew showed up on the weekend with the new one (a month after I picked out the counter) and placed it on. The crew was non English speaking so we couldn't voice any concerns. They hadn't grouted at this point. The next week a crew showed up while I was at work (no notice they were coming) I had texted my contact person that I wanted to have it looked at because it didn't seem right. Well they went ahead and grouted anyway. Finally I made contact and was told that is the way it was discussed. Because of the way our kitchen sits the counters are awkward and it seems a professional company would have drawn up what they were putting in or discussed options and discussed what would be best for the space. I honestly don't understand why they didn't make a template from the one they took off. We were only replacing it for something different and newer. THEY made the decision. Not happy with it at all. Looks very awkward and uneven because it hangs past the wall it's on. They say it 's so that the counter is equal all the way around. I think it should be flush with the wall. Very frustrated we had little say. Once again communication was not good. We were told at the beginning someone would be overseeing each part of the reconstruction. Not so. I will be looking else where to finish out what we started. Oh, and it's $$$ read more

We needed to invigorate our back yard, as well as incorporate a space for a hot tub. Designer Scott Cassell came out to meet with us, figured out exactly what we wanted, worked out a wonderful plan, and designed a very workable solution. The crew that arrived to accomplish the plan was everything we could have asked for. These guys worked like drones from first light until quitting time; they were polite cheerful fellows except where the job was concerned, in which case they were extraordinarily careful about measurements and specifications. They were very receptive to our minor changes to the project plan once we saw how the new project affected our property. And they suggested changes and incorporated thoughtful features we would not have known to ask for. The crew was just terrific - we loved having them around, and actually missed them when they completed the job. The supervisory folks were personable, involved, and responsive. We've built houses and had other contract work done previously, and were favorably impressed by the performance of Southern Landscape. The end result is a beautiful new patio and garden that meets out needs exactly. Our experience with Southern Landscape was quite positive, and we'd not hesitate to recommend them to others. read more

Southern Landscape and Gardens was great! We wanted to update our backyard and sought them out because their online designs are similar to our taste. After several rounds of back-and-forth design (they even came to us to discuss our plans on weekends!), they helped us with the paperwork for approval for our Homeowners' Association and they got to work. They broke ground on a Thursday and were finished with our major project (a serious cedar pergola, a stone corner bench, and some major landscaping revamp) by the following Friday. Their crews were efficient, friendly, and on top of everything. Their customer service is very well done--our landscape designer came out regularly to check our project's progress. The work is solid and adds some serious value to our house. We had a wonderful experience with them and would highly recommend them to others! read more

Scott, Ross and their crew did an amazing job today. They arrived on time on the day they promised. We have a 24 year old house with mature, and perhaps overgrown landscaping. They removed the old and brought in the new to plan. When we realized we forgot an area, Scott priced in the addition fairly. We are very happy with their service! read more

Blake and the team at Southern Landscape did a fairly large remodel of our back yard including the building of a retaining wall, complete overhaul of our outdated pool, installation of a new spa, and a complete outdoor kitchen. It has been nearly 5 years since the end of the project but they absolutely did a wonderful job. Southern Landscape offered both a design team also. They finished the project in a timely fashion and on budget. Blake was also in constant communication with us. Our backyard is still in wonderful shape so that attests for the quality of the work. They were professional in their work and Southern Landscape also has helped maintain the project with some routine uptake. Thank again. read more

Wow!!! What a great job these folks did transforming our backyard. They were referred to me by a friend and I asked them to design an outdoor kitchen and a place that I could keep a tv. What they designed and built is more than we could ever ask for. They came up with a great design and then worked with my budget constraints to give me as much as I could afford. It's awesome and we love it. I can't say enough about the crew, crew leader, and everybody else that constantly worked, checked and double checked to make the entire experience great. I highly discourage anyone from using this Landscape Design/Installation company. I wanted an outdoor kitchen/bar design and installation, which I replied, when asked, that I am used to seeing this cost in the neighborhood of $10K. They implied it would be higher but didn't say how much higher. They, then, upsold me on an arbor--again, I am thinking this would be in the $15K-$20K range grand total. They had me sign a contract and pay a $700 design fee, which you only get half back on the project. They come back out to deliver the design and quote, which was $30K!!!! I am now frustrated, because they have my $700 and won't refund me. I never truly received a master plan--just parts of. The computer renderings were nice, but they now want me to settle for a lesser, smaller design that IS in my price range. In the beginning, if they would've just told me that, in their 30 years of experience, the design/install that I was looking for would at least be double of what I was expecting, then I would've at least had the chance to think about it or decide against it. Now, I am stuck! The worst part is that I just argue with them now. I thought I could reason with the Owner, but he is just as bad. He WILL argue with you, plus he told me that "I messed up," and he isn't refunding my money--he keeps offering to do another plan and that I should just settle. All in all, it feels like a bait and switch. They wanted to lock the customer in with the plan fee. They understand my complaints but won't refund my money. Earnest and James, whom came to my home, bragged about their experience, but apparently didn't know how to qualify their prospective customer, especially when I said that I thought this was around a $10K project. Then, they upsell me? To add to this, the kitchen/bar design required the arbor; otherwise, you'd be sitting in direct sun. That is brutal in Central TX. My original idea was to keep the kitchen/bar under the patio roof, which is my home's original design. The arbor was an add'l $7000. It will unfortunately cost me $700 to get rid of these guys. Can't say enough about how much we enjoyed working with Scott and his crews. We have a very steep front yard and they terraced it for us and added a parking pad. It looks fabulous! They were on time everyday and if it rained they called and told us when they would return. They finished the job on time as well even though we kept adding things. :) Additionally, every time I called Scott, he returned my phone call most of time within an hour or two. I have never had that experience with a contractor! Southern is more expensive than other bids we got, but I think that overall they were worth every penny! They are just quality people all the way around. read more

Southern Landscape is not a landscaping company. They are a delivery service that charges an arm and a leg. They do not know about plants at all. They go to Home Depot ask the staff there what to do and dump pants at your location and never return your calls or e-mails read more

We had an incredible experience with Southern - the best contracted job we've ever had. Maury, our landscape architect, spent hours listening to us, looking at our property and writing up the plans. The fee was well worth it, which is why our newly landscaped yard looks so put together (as opposed to us just planting things wherever there was a spot...) The crew that worked on the job was prompt - actually showed up when they said they'd be here! - as well as fast and respectful of our yard, of us and of our animals. While this was not an inexpensive job, it was so well done and done so quickly, we felt it was well worth every penny. Great people to work with - we couldn't be happier. read more

Overall a great experience from start to finish. Scott Cassell improved on the original front and backyard landscaping and came close to our budget. They started on time and finished a few days early . The crew especially the supervisor worked hard and did a good job cleaning up . They worked closely with us on the details and the finishing product came well within and even above our expectations. read more
