I can't recommend Abey at Austin Creative Landscaping highly enough. He has completely redesigned and rebuilt both the front and back yards at two different homes for me, and each experience was outstanding from start to finish. Abey starts by listening. He took the time to understand our vision, then created a thoughtful design that balanced looks, function, and long-term practicality. He also welcomed feedback, going back and forth with post-design tweaks until everything felt exactly right. Throughout the entire process he was consistently communicative, clear on timelines, and proactive about updates, which made the whole project feel easy and well managed. The results were truly excellent. In the back yards, we installed turf, quarter-inch steel edging, rocks, and a variety of other xeriscaping elements, and the finished product looks clean, polished, and built to last (and best of all, no dirt for the dogs to track in). The front yards were mostly laying new grass and planting new trees, but the layout and placement were so well considered that they immediately improved the curb appeal and overall feel of the homes. The workmanship was second to none. Pricing-wise, Abey was very competitive. Definitely not the lowest bid, but also nowhere near the highest. Ad the value was incredible given the quality of the work and the experience overall. I couldn't be happier with how both projects turned out, and I've recommended Abey to all our friends without hesitation. We had some work done on our backyard last summer, which included a sitting area at the top of a small hill. When the slab for the sitting area was laid, it wound up being a much higher drop off than I envisioned and didn't look very attractive with so much cement having been required. The company that did the slab recommended Austin Creative Landscaping to put in a railing due to the drop off being fairly high. When Abey from ACL came out, he gave me some great ideas for the railing but mentioned that he could put in a planter area to soften the look of the cement. It all came out look great and we couldn't be happier! We highly recommend Austin Creative Landscaping, both for their work and their ideas and designs. Abey and the team at Austin Creative Landscaping completely transformed my backyard. They were professional, on schedule, and quick to make adjustments when a downed tree called for a change to the design. After the project was complete, some minor issues that arose were handled in a timely manner. My yard had been pretty torn up during a pool installation, had drainage issues, and was full of weeds. The ACL team came up with a beautiful, multilevel design that complemented the pool that called for regrading the entire side yard to manage runoff. The steel and basalt beds maintained the clean lines I love, and new grass and a mulch bed with flowering plants and vines added texture and color. We're absolutely thrilled with the new landscaping in our front yard designed and executed by Abey Bruce and his hard-working team! They trimmed trees to allow for more sun and removed numerous old shrubs. They then installed stone flower beds and custom steel framing -- all of which was planted with native grasses, agave cactus and trees: a Magnolia, Cypress and Palo Verde. ACL also completely redid our Pétanque court (French version of Italian Bacce Ball). Our old court had become rutted and overgrown. Abey & Co. dug out the entire court, added stablizers and resurfacing -- the new improved version is spectacular. Great fun to play on and a real asset to our property. Loved working with them and appreciated how they listened and gave ideas and suggestions that worked well with my vision. This business apparently has a deserved reputation for doing great work. Their portfolio looks very impressive. I live in a townhouse with a small yard, and I had Abey out to give me a quote on several different things that I wanted to do. He had some good ideas, and said that he'd give me a quote with several different possible options. I was looking forward to a quote and doing business with him. A week passed by with no quote. A follow up email to him got a promise of a quote soon. After a month, Abey made another promise to get me a quote. Almost three months later, two more follow up emails to him have been ignored, and still no quote. I was polite and professional in my communication with him. I know that this is a busy time for landscapers, but all he had to do was tell me that my job is too small of a scale for his company, that he's too busy, etc. I've been left hanging because of his lack of follow through. I'm moving on to another landscaping company that gave me a written quote less than an hour after their site visit. Austin Creative Landscaping may do great work, but they need to hire someone to help them with client communication. It's sorely lacking. read more

We completed payment to ACL (approximately $9,000 total) when fencing (installed under his supervision by Flix Fencing) was substantially complete on April 2. Almost 3 months later, the work has not been completed. At this point, it's a safety hazard. The job site has not been cleaned up from work done over 3 months ago. Pieces of metal are strewn on ground. Some of the work is shoddy (wobbly, not straight, gate will not open enough to move lawnmower.) We had to do work on uncompleted fence to prevent dog's escape. The process of staining fence and adding landscaping cannot be started. Our contract administrator provided a detailed punch list. The list could have been used to produce an A+ Job. We originally chose Abey because he was the one lawn service that was in our area on Fridays. Since we were selling our home we wanted the lawn to look its freshest on the weekends. We were also moving out of state and we needed someone we could trust to keep our lawn looking its best. Abey made us feel instantly comfortable and more than exceeded our expectations. UPDATE: I have now engaged Austin Creative Landscaping two more times since 2013 when we had the front of our office refreshed. This time, I had them help me with a backyard project for my home. Abey is an excellent listener and comes up with creative suggestions for solving landscape moments. For example, our house is very near our neighbors house and I wanted to build up our fence -however, our fence is shared. So Abey suggested building a standalone steel and wire structure and allow vine to grow up and create the barrier. The structure itself is lovely, but the small vines are already several feet tall and are flowering. I'm super excited about how it will look when it fills in. Our backyard was a very comprehensive project complete with fake grass (it's AWESOME! highly recommend!), a visual barrier around our ugly AC unit, a rain water harvest barrel, small veggie garden, and flower beds. We have lived in our home for nearly 8 years and this is the first time I've been truly happy with our backyard! Abey also crafted custom planters for the front of our new office. He realized that we needed massively drought tolerant plantings because not only are we terrible about watering, but we have an overhang on our office porch that keeps the rain at bay. Contracted Austin Creative Landscaping/Austin Lawns and Flower Beds to install a small patch of Zorro Zoysia sod + soil on 3-29-13. It was a small job, approx. 12'x12', and I might've done it myself but was just about the same cost to have 'experts' do it. Plus, I had been building rock retaining walls, patios and garden beds: I was TIRED! Abey's crew came on time, worked hard and were personable -- very nice and accommodating to my twin 5-yr old boys who were fascinated with the whole operation. Daily watering for 2-3 weeks is key to ensuring the sod takes root. About a week after installation, a friend of mine stopped by while I was watering and noticed that the turf was kind of lumpy and asked if they used a roller. I watched the whole installation and had not seen a roller. The sod did look pretty ugly at that point, eraly on: seams, uneven color/health of stressed grass due to palletizing, transport, etc. and it did seem o be a bit lumpy. My friend's comment got me nervous, since I had no prior experience with sod installation and had paid $450 for the job. I called Abey to express my my fears. He told me that they didn't use a roller because the area was so small (true) but they had used a hand-held steel flattening tool instead (also true--I saw them use it). Concerned with allaying my fears Abey came by himself with a roller a few days later. In hindsight, my were fears unfounded. I now have a beautiful, healthy emerald green patch of Zoysia perched on a terrace beneath a big live oak. I'll bet that Abey's extra 'roller ' effort probably wasn't necessary and that he knew it, but nonetheless wanted to make sure that I was satisfied with the job. MORAL OF THE STORY: Abéy Bruce and Austin Creative Landscaping/Austin Lawns and Flower Beds did a top notch job, and were very responsive even on a small project for a finicky customer. We were very hesitant about choosing our landscaper, as a large part of the work to be done was to fix structural issues from a recent landscaping job that didn't go well. We had no reason to worry. Abey is a really nice guy, but unfortunately it didn't work out for my yard. He originally couldn't bid the sod job I wanted because he was too busy, and maybe that should have been a sign for me before I agreed to bi-weekly service. After a few fine services on the front yard I added the backyard and they forgot to do it the first week. They did come back a couple days later to do it, but I had to call and make that happen. Then last week they didn't even show up and I didn't receive a call or email. I realize I probably could have called and figured it out again with Abey, but I hired him so that I wouldn't have to do that. I just received Abey's help with my landscaping needs yesterday. He worked on it all day while I was at work, and I came home to a masterpiece. He cleaned out all of my flowerbeds as well as put about 6 yards of mulch in them. He also planted some plants that I just hadn't gotten to yet. I made an appointment to have an estimate done on our flower beds with Abey. The day of the appointment, he never showed up so I called him several hours later and he said he would come by later that day. He did come by and was very nice and answered all of my questions and said he would email me an estimate. This occured on April 25th and I never heard back from him. I went with Austin Lawns first because of all the great reviews but I guess our job was not big enough for them to even follow up with a quote. I just came inside from speaking with Abey again and wanted to let you know what a pleasure he is to work with. I first contacted Abey several months ago based on his Yelp reviews. I needed to prepare my yard to put my house on the market. Abey had some excellent ideas, many of which we would have implemented had we intended to stay. He has the ability to visualize a beautiful landscape and communicate that vision to his clients. Since we were moving, we just had Abey's crew tidy up the existing landscape. As we were about to put the house on the market, Abey's crew groomed our lawn and planted two trees to replace ones that had died. When I drove up to my house, I couldn't believe I was looking at the same yard! The trees were perfect, and there was not a blade of grass out of place. Since he'd done such an outstanding job at our old house, I wanted to have Abey maintain the front and install a landscape in the back of our newly built home. I just finished talking with him about the back, for which he has some very practical and aesthetically pleasing ideas. His crew will start taking care of my front lawn next week for a very reasonable price. On both properties, we've changed our minds a few times about what we wanted, but Abey doesn't seem to have minded; he really does want us to have the landscape that best meets our needs. He's very friendly, professional, and in general, a delight to work with.
