Stopped by on a random Tuesday evening and lets say it was the highlight of the week. Service was quick and every server had an amazing attitude and friendliness that made me feel welcome. They have great recommendation and all of our food was delicious. The portions were massive, so be prepared to take a to-go box. I love how nice the restaurant is and the decor. It's super classy and nostalgic inside.

We don't eat Southern Food much because it's typically greasy fried. But my FIL is coming to the area and wants Southern food. We ordered: fried pickles, breaded salmon bites, Southern Kitchen Roll, and Chicken Club Sandwich with a side of collard greens. All which were more than generous portions. Fried Pickles: My husband liked the breading. It was very light and tasty. It didn't stay on though. Breaded Salmon Bites: Delicious. The light breading was perfect, not greasy at all! It came with an in-house made aioli sauce that was just spicy enough. Southern Kitchen Roll: well my husband thought it would be a bread roll. Surprise! it was a type of egg roll. It had chicken and I believe cabbage. It came with a honey sauce. Together it was very good. The cabbage was cooked and gave a sweet taste to the roll. Chicken Club Sandwich: "It was good." my husband said. Collard Greens: I don't know how they can make greens taste sooo good. Atmosphere: I absolutely love the feel of this restaurant. We came in early, 11:30. It was still quiet. The music was a calming cool jazz and some EWF feel. The decor is primarily black and white with some gold accents. Loved the chandeliers. Ladies, if you love Marilyn Monroe visit the bathroom. Guys, think 1930's gangsters in the bathroom. When we left the place was nearly packed. Staff: The most friendly people. The waitress was new so I can't say much other than she was very good. The owner and manager both came to our table. Both were nice. The owner was extremely nice. We'll take my FIL here for sure!! We live about an hour away but still talked about coming back for drinks and atmosphere since we're not big fried food eaters.

All southern food restaurants are not created equal. Southern Kitchen is a fan fave in the Richmond area. The overall ambiance is nice, but the service is a tad slow. If you're looking to spend some time and not in a rush then this is the place for you. The food is a little pricey, but I guess it comes with an experience! The salmon cake sandwich is $20 and the fried fish entree started at $28. The main courses were seasoned well. The sides could use a little more love. They weren't bad, but when you come from a southern country family your expectations are high!

Catfish Bites

Southern Kitchen is hands down the best soul food restaurant I've ever been to. I ordered the whiting fish with mac and cheese and collard greens, and everything was incredible. The fish was fried to absolute perfection--crispy on the outside, tender and flavorful on the inside. Honestly, it was so good words can't even do it justice. If you're thinking about trying it, don't hesitate--just go check it out! Also, recommend you make reservations.

Highly requested, a challenge to get a booking, and I see why!! Starting from the grand view when you walk in to the beautiful furniture. We had the pleasure of being seated in the private room last Saturday for my brother's graduation dinner. The cornbread muffins were TOO GOOD! I wish I could order some to Houston right now. We had a large group and everyone enjoyed their food from the meatloaf and fried fish to the turkey wings. I enjoyed the cabbage and mac n cheese. Only regret is I didn't order dessert. We were honestly too full for anything else. Our waiter did well considering how busy it was. Hostesses could've been a bit more welcoming but overall a good experience

As someone who truly loves soul food, anytime I can enjoy it without cooking it myself is already a win--but Southern Kitchen took that experience to another level. Every time I visit Richmond, I try to find at least one solid soul food spot, and this time, I stumbled across Southern Kitchen--and I'm so glad I did. From the moment I walked in, I was impressed. The atmosphere is clean, welcoming, and surprisingly upscale for a soul food joint. It's clear they take pride not only in the food but also in the full dining experience. Our server, Jayden, was an absolute sweetheart--attentive and kind, adding to the overall warmth of the evening. Now let's talk about the food--hot, flavorful, and plated beautifully. I ordered the Catfish and Shrimp with Mac and Cheese, Collard Greens, and Yams. Every bite was seasoned to perfection, comforting yet elevated, and left me full and smiling. This place has earned a permanent spot on my Richmond rotation. I honestly can't wait to return!

YES!!! Exceptional Experience at Southern Kitchen, located at 9210 Stony Point Parkway, Richmond, VA 23235. Its hard to found Southern dining that meets my satisfaction when my entire family including myself was raised to cook some of the best Southern dinners. I often leave Southern style restaurants saying "I could have made this at home"... this was not the case We ordered the Fried Catfish Bites, Buttery Cornbread Muffins, Pineapple Upside-Down Cocktail, Sangria, Turkey Wings with cabbage and mac & cheese, and BBQ Fried Chicken with collard greens and sweet potatoes. This dining experience was flawless, with no shortcomings. Ratings: Food - 10/10, Service - 10/10, Drinks - 10/10. The ambiance featured light R&B music in a beautifully designed dining room, creating a perfect atmosphere. Even the ladies' room was tastefully decorated. It is evident that owner Shane Roberts-Thomas successfully achieved her.goal of creating a fine dining experience serving Southern-style cuisine. Our waitress, Jayden, was knowledgeable about the menu and provided excellent recommendations. The only disappointment was their is not a location in Charlotte, NC, which may warrant a road trip. Overall rating: 10/10 Chef's Kiss

Update: new location *make a reservation* I saw people being turned away on a Saturday afternoon. We arrived on time and were seated immediately. It's bright and cheery in here! I love the instrumental Playlist, mostly filled with 90s R&B. The vibe is so good! It took about 10 minutes before our waitress came over but after that....her service was on point. We ordered our apps + drinks and each came out less than 15 minutes. The soul egg rolls were ok; the honey dipping sauce helped. The shrimp appetizer was delicious- perfectly fried shrimp with a sweet chili sauce for dipping. We had two orders of the fried chicken entrée and one turkey wing entrée. There was nothing on our plates that was not good! My friend "cut" the yams with greens but I ate my straight no chaser...I loved how sweet and perfect they were. The greens on my plate as a side were better than the ones in the Southern roll - same for the chicken. The Kitchen Sink and Shane's lemonade were great 21+ drinks for our meals. We skipped dessert but had plenty of food to bring home.

What a great decision! When you walk in, you immediately notice that all of the wines are beautifully displayed -- it doubles as a wine shop, which gives it such a warm and welcoming vibe. It feels cozy but elevated at the same time. They don't offer flights for groups larger than five, but we were able to order one dealer's choice flight based on our preferred flavor profiles. From there, we could select a bottle inspired by the flight. A few of us gravitated toward reds. Our waitress was incredibly knowledgeable -- we told her the flavor profiles we liked, and she brought out three reds to try. The Wade & Wayfarer Pinot Noir was our favorite (so good!), though a bit pricier. We also tried the Alkoorai Cab/Merlot blend, which ended up being our least favorite. Ultimately, we chose the Denner Nightshade GSM -- excellent pick. Bonus tip: if you purchase a bottle $50 or more, there's no corkage fee; under $50, there is. Our waitress also mentioned that South American Merlots are the best Merlots as we all mentioned Merlot tends to be more dry. A few in our group ordered the Masterpiece Theatre cocktail on our waitress's recommendation -- she did not steer us wrong! Food-wise, everything was a hit. Our friends ordered the Cacio e Pepe burrata, pickled shrimp, Caesar salad, mushroom and leek flatbread, and the Brie and pear flatbread (both flatbreads were huge!). They loved every dish. My husband and I shared the bread with olive oil (simple and delicious), the charred octopus (tender with amazing flavor), gnocchi Bolognese, and lamb chops. Everything was fantastic -- the only small note was that the lamb could've been a bit more rare -- but still very flavorful. By the end of the night, all six of us agreed we'd absolutely be back. We're even looking into their wine club -- $60/month for two bottles (pickup required at the shop), which honestly sounds like a great deal. Apparently, they change up their wine flights weekly, which makes it even more fun and gives us a reason to return. Such a great experience all around -- can't wait to go back and try more wines!

They like what they are doing. It's in a strip mall parking lot so parking is pretty easy; if it's crowded, you might not be able to park right in front of the restaurant but there's still plenty of parking. We chose flights of wine to start out and really enjoyed each of the three we picked. For appetizers we got the pumpkin hummus and the Muhammara which is a roasted red pepper and walnut dip with toasted pita. My friends enjoyed their hummus, and my husband, and I thought the pepper and walnut dip were out of this world. We wanted more for dinner. The pita was the perfect crispiness and accompaniment for the dip. Having had limp pita at another restaurant recently makes me especially locked in on this detail lol For mains we got the duck confit tacos, the gnocchi bolognese and the hippie chick salad with roasted salmon. My friend enjoyed her salad, but I forgot to ask how she liked the roasted salmon on top. It looked tasty and was something I was considering for next time. I got the duck confit tacos which were definitely different from your standard fare and had a nice kick to it without being overwhelming. On my first bite I thought it was gonna be too spicy, but the heat did not build to unbearable. Still not sure I'm a fan of duck, but it was done very well and I wasn't disappointed. My husband's gnocchi Bolognese was done perfectly. I was shocked how light and pillowy the gnocchi were and loved the Bolognese, which was the perfect amount of savory without being too rich; elevated comfort food for sure . We were too full from dinner to order dessert which kept our bill down to a little over one Benji for drinks, one appetizer and two beans, , which is pretty typical for a nice meal out these days. I do miss the days when you could go out for $30-$45 a person even with a shared appetizer and drinks but WW is more on the reasonable side compared to most. We will definitely be back though and Iwoll be investigating the private room option for a milestone birthday or anniversary. Well done WW!

He had a huge vault of songs... everything I asked for, he had. Some of which are not as popular as others. AND the best part, he could change the pitch to accommodate my vocal range. Some of my favorite songs are a bit too high, and I had to ask for two of them to be brought down 1/2 step. Songs ranged from 50s to current. Enjoyable singers all around and everyone was fun to watch. I got a glass of their tempranillo, which was perfection. Full bodied, super dry and delicious. I also got a pizza, which is kind of a personal size. Very thin. Good, but not great. Decor is nice. Newly renovated with mostly tables all on the same level, but also a couch area next to the TV, and about three bar seats. Plenty of room to spread out. The only thing keeping Gramophone from 5 stars is the lack of food options. Hope they're able to add some simple staples like burgers and fries or salads. Convenient location right on the corner of Forest Hill and Westover Hills Blvd. I'll definitely come back for karaoke and wine!

Plus I had heard great things about their Neapolitan pizza, so I was hyped to try it. Sooo bad news. The pizzas apparently weren't selling well enough, so they no longer offer them, nor will they be bringing them back in the future. They do have empanadas instead, though, which were quite tasty. I liked the margherita and the spinach ricotta. We also ordered a charcuterie plate after our server suggested it instead of the olives. Sadly it only had four olives on the plate, so we rationed. I wasn't a super huge fan of the plate, as it was heavy on crackers. I would've liked to see more variety for the price, including perhaps some fresh bread and more pickles. My boyfriend and my mom split crab fritters, and they really loved those. Between us, we purchased two wine flights and my mom had a moscato. They were out of many options, so perhaps they were in between inventory. The wines they did have were all great. I'd say overall our visit was nice. It wasn't groundbreaking by any means, and I'd be more likely to go to some of the other wine shops in the area first before returning -- but I do see a lot of potential here.
