I love coming to Jackie's on Laburnum--the vibe is always right and the food does not disappoint. My absolute favorite is the smothered pork chops. When I say they be hitting every time, I mean that. Tender, flavorful, and cooked just right. You can tell it's made with love, not rushed. The atmosphere is always a good time--whether you're just stopping in to eat or hanging out for the night, it's a whole vibe. The staff has always been cool and the service keeps me coming back. I haven't been to Jackie's in years. I was invited for a birthday celebration on today. We had a reserved area for us so we walked right in with no problem. We were greeted within minutes and our drink and food orders were taken. The food came out faster than we anticipated which was definitely a huge plus. We were a party of 15 and the food was piping hot. I ordered the Jackie's feast which came with 5 Shrimp, 2 pieces of catfish, 2 jumbo wings with Mac and cheese and green beans. I asked to switch the green beans for cabbage because the green beans tasted like "Canned beans". The server was able to swap it out for me with no issues. The mac and cheese tasted good and the catfish is definitely Swai. The flavor was definitely there with the cabbage as well. The pork chops needed some salt and the potato salad tasted like it was store bought and doctored up with paprika on top. The time our food came out was outstanding considering we were a larger crowd. Our food was served on real plates. We were using wrapped plastic silverware and plastic cups to drink out of. I've been hearing great things about the food, so I wanted to give it a try. Unfortunately, I never got the chance because the customer service was VERY disappointing. One thing I really value is good customer service, and it felt like the staff simply didn't care. When I walked in and waited, two servers were nearby -- one was assisting someone, while another stood there. A third server was across from the bar. They all looked at me but never acknowledged me. Even a simple "Hi, I'll be right with you" goes a long way. The environment felt cold and unwelcoming. Maybe I just came on the wrong night, but first impressions matter. read more

Sunday Dinner with family was nice, I really appreciated the gospel music because I missed church. I arrived a little later than my family, last minute plans so my order appeared to be placed later which is understandable. The server said the kitchen was a tad backed up and I understood. He brought out my sides first (candied yams and Mac & cheese) to accommodate but I didn't care for the yams this time around, a little too syrupy and mush so I was kindly able to swap for collard greens that were very yummy. The Mac and cheese was pretty good, just expected to be warmer. I mixed my sweet tea with lemonade, which made the tea much tastier than the standard. I absolutely loved my catfish bites -- very hot and fresh! All in all, I'll def be back because I had a better experience with the yams in the past so I know the potential! The food was very good, our server was amazing, however after we ate and paid about $50.00 per meal. We were asked to leave or pay $20.00 more dollars to listen to the music they were playing. The onions were barely fried and still crunchy . Dessert:Sweet potato pie 4/5 . I would recommend getting a slice. Overall, my food bologna burger was disappointing. 3/15/2026 at 1:30 pm, so this was my first experience at this restaurant, i was greeted at the door by being screamed at "SHUT THE DOOR"! I was invited by family that had previously visited this place and I immediately asked what have yall invited me too. The hostess was loud and rude but apparently it's only toward black people because as soon as a white family entered the restaurant she was all teeth as she greeted them, even politely showing them where to pay and directing them where to be seated. See hospitality goes a long way regardless of how good the food is. Im extremely disappointed at the atmosphere and its treatment toward the customer. Place the right people in the right positions in that place and it may have a promising future but I will never return unfortunately. read more

If I could give this meal 10 stars I would. I ordered the crab cake dinner with a side of greens, potato salad, & a dinner roll. My ONLY complaint is i wish I had gotten 2 rolls . Everything was absolutely delicious . The crab cakes were meaty & cooked to perfection. Those greens were succulent making them mouthwatering delicious. After church my family and I were looking for a place to eat. We agreed to eat at Jackie's. Upon arriving, they had most of the parking lot blocked off, including the handicap accessible area, in which I needed due to having a family member with me who utilizes the area. One of the employees came out with an attitude asking how I got past the cones, because they have these parking spaces saved for an event they're having "later". She rudely said once I unloaded my family member, I needed to move my car. While pulling on the door to enter the restaurant, the employee informed me the restaurant opens at 12:00 pm, it was 11:50. At 12:17pm, while we were waiting in the cold, with about another 30-40 people, one of the employees came out and rudely stated; "Yall don't act like this at Walmart when they don't open on time." After that remark, the longer than normal wait for the restaurant to open and making it inconvenient along with being rude about the blocked off handicap area, there was no way I would give my hard-earned money to Jackie's. Great food but customer service needs improvement ASAP. I don't know why black owned business feel they can provide the black community with any type of service and continue to be supported. Ordered a few things. Crab cake meal with cabbage and mashed potatoes. Crab cakes had real crab, cabbage was good but had a different seasoning than I'm use to but it was good. Mashed potatoes were ok. Got a whiting and 5 wingette meal. FIRE. Fish was well seasoned and the wings were so crispy and very well seasoned. The cost for two seniors was over $60.00 and the servers at the buffet were serving very small portions of food that was barely enough to feed a child. However the table next to us ordered off the menu and was served larger portions by the waiter. The plastic plates and utensils look like they were purchased from the Dollar Tree. If I could rate Jackie's absolutely zero stars I would. I was hungry after just landing in Richmond and wanted some good soul food. When I saw the Jackie's menu I was so excited. It truly did not last. We sat at the bar of a completely empty restaurant and the hostess came over to help us. My companion ordered a wingette dinner and I ordered Catfish and Wingettes. The host immediately told us our food would have a $6 dollar up-charge in total. She then told me for it to be regular price I would have to get whiting fish instead. There was also a 18% gratuity fee for sub par service. It truly seemed as though they were trying to make up for their lack of volume and customers by over charging the ones that were there. I do not recommend this restaurant and I truly hope others who read my review will think twice about visiting this establishment. read more

There was a server who came out to the car to take our order and payment. She wasn't the friendliest, but it was kind of chilly and she was taking all of the orders alone. So, I kind of let that slide. We stayed on the safe side and ordered some Wingettes, yams, cornbread, fries, and crab balls. We figured we couldn't go wrong this way. Boy, we're we wrong. The wingettes were cooked in old oil. So, the chicken had a burnt taste and was soggy. The yams were bland. The cornbread was supposed to be a side, but they charged us extra for it. The menu clearly lists it as a side, so I don't understand the upcharge when I had to choose 2 sides. The crab balls were cold and mushy. They were bland as well. For the amount we paid, I expected much more. Maybe I went on the wrong day? Maybe I ordered the wrong thing? I don't know. I just know that I didn't enjoy the food. read more

ABSOLUTELY 1 STAR RESTAURANT!!! We had reservations for a grad dinner with about 10 people at 2pm, the food came out 2 hours later!!! And some people's food NEVER came! The waiters response to us was "I can't make the kitchen go any faster". We waited 1 hr to have our tables provided with water!!! When ordering they did not have crab cakes, did not have diff types of liquor behind the bar etc!!! It was horrible. They have sheets hanging from the ceiling tile separating diff parts of the restaurant. The whole party was on one tab and who knows what they actually charged us for because we didn't receive all our food. Our dinner entrees didn't come out with bread, we had to ask the waiter & when it came it was STORE BOUGHT BREAD. The Mac & cheese ..DISGUSTING!!! Taste like they added cottage cheese. Also they were PLAYING R KELLY, Your body's calling!!! Mind you it's about 4pm at this time! We had several children in our party and also other parties in the restaurant. The kids kept complaining the music was too loud. They had music playing on household speakers. I mean it couldn't get any worse. They never refilled our drinks. Our alcoholic drinks were on a menu picture in large cups but they came in tiny plastic cups. We refused to pay full price for the drinks & our waitress agreed they were served in the wrong cups so they ended up bringing us another round of drinks so we could get a full serving of our drinks, SMH!!! They never checked on us. We had to keep finding our waiter. This is literally the WORST restaurant ever. The kids even complained how the Ketchup was watered down!!!!
