I decided to sit at the bar. There wasn't a lot of deciding I needed to do with the menu. I knew I wanted fried chicken and this was a fried chicken restaurant. I got the 2 piece with baked beans and potato salad. From what I can tell the restaurant had a very friendly environment. The waitstaff brought me my food in a very timely fashion. I tasted my side dishes first and they were really good. I remember the baked beans being very hot temperature wise. The chicken was what I made the trip for and I wasn't disappointed. The chicken was so crunchy and the batter they made it with had a little kick to it. It wasn't spicy but it had a noticeable flavor. I enjoyed every bit of it. Pita - perfect, little chewy, not dry and crunchy. Hummus - yum. Just right, not so creamy it's like paste but not chunky. Reminiscent of the texture of the hummus from Mellow Mushroom, but with much better pita. Wife got the spanakopita and I'm not going to say I regret not ordering it myself, but I'll definitely order it on a return visit. The phyllo was perfectly crisp and the stuffing inside was creamy and delightful. It came with a Greek salad that utilizes their house dressing that is unlike anything I've ever experienced before. It lightened the salad perfectly and I'll bring it up again. My son and I ordered gyros with "Greek Fries". Do yourself a favor and order these fries. Crispy fries - like Indy's/Checkers with a sprinkling of fresh Feta crumbles, oregano, and drizzled with that Greek dressing. I can't say enough about the dressing. It's just not what I expected- I guess I'm used to the bottled Greek dressing that doesn't even come close to this stuff. It's a perfect balance of flavor, acidity, and surprisingly a little sweet. The Gyros: Chicago add Feta - there must have been a pound of perfectly crispy on the edges juicing the middle sliced beef/lamb along with all the toppings. The Biloxi- that pound of beef/lamb with a half pound of perfectly cooked shrimp thrown in. Nearly two hours later we were still comfortably full. Service was exceptional. In addition to our attentive and informative server everyone who passed by checked on us with a quick comment or gesture, but not so much as to be overwhelming or annoying. In other words, service was just right. I'd love to say we had dessert, but I'll have to save my review of the baklava for another post - maybe later tonight - they don't close til 8:00!

We stumbled upon Bird Dog Chicken and it turned out to be a great find. The restaurant is locally owned, with friendly staff and a steady stream of locals coming in for both dine-in and takeout. We ordered three of the Four Piece Chicken Tender boxes. Two were rolled in their Louisiana Hot and one in the classic Hot Buffalo sauce. The traditional Buffalo was the clear winner for us -- the Louisiana Hot had a bit too much of the 'Louisiana' seasoning for our taste. That said, both sauces were excellent: hot enough to satisfy without being painful, and packed with great flavor. Included Ranch sauce was great too. The chicken tenders themselves were nicely sized (noticeably bigger than Raising Cane's) and came with a generous portion of lightly seasoned fries. Everything was fresh and crispy. Location-wise, it's super convenient -- easy to hop back on the road or head straight to the beach afterward. We'll definitely be back next time we're in Orange Beach! Highly recommend.
