Man this place gets packed on a Sunday at lunch time. All kinds of people. I didn't realize from the description that this was a buffet type place. Find a parking spot, walk in and pay. I have only patronize this business once. While the food is not bad it does not fit my taste. In my opinion, the food is more on the less seasoned side. Which is great for my older adults who have health issues such as hypertension or diabetes. The staff is pretty nice and the facility was clean. read more

Moving to Mississippi from California, I envisioned dinners of Southern Comfort Food, items that you couldn't get anywhere else but in the South, and dishes that though available in other places of the country, were only done right in the South. Being here for over half a year now, I've had plenty of delicious meals, but none that have really satisfied my idealized vision of a Southern meal. That is, until I ate here. This is undoubtedly the most authentic Southern meal I've had. The restaurant is very unassuming, basically just a large space with folding tables spread across the floor. The walls are decorated to show support for local sports teams. The food is quintessentially Southern. And in keeping with the "arteries be damned" mentality to southern food, this place is a buffet. Fried chicken, chicken livers, corn, peas, cornbread, Mexican cornbread, greens, fried okra, etc... all of it delicious. Truth be told, this place would have had me with chicken livers and fried okra alone, but everything was so good and so homey. There's even desserts. Ice cream, along with other things like peach cobbler or break pudding. As an added bonus, this place is run by very sweet old ladies. This place is located in the middle of nowhere, in a place that tourists have no reason visiting. I work about 15 minutes away from HH. Last year, some of my friends said we had to make a pilgrimage on our teacher work day (the only time we can go out to lunch). I'm not exaggerating when I tell you that that visit changed my eating-out life. Heritage House is THE DEEP SOUTH. Every time we go (which is as often as I have teacher work days and can get a group together), I am delighted by their array of country delights. Personally, I always start with a huge plate of veggies (corn, green beans, collards, fried green tomatoes, and cabbage when they have it). They are top-notch, always hot, and always fresh. The fried chicken is perfect - super juicy, crispy, succulent, 5 star all the way. Personally, my favorite day to go is on Friday when they serve fried/boiled shrimp and fried fish. Those rival the chicken, in my opinion! Their chicken and dumplings is also to die for, when they have it. Finally, the dessert is a dream. My favorite is the island pie (looks weird, tastes amazing) but the banana pudding and peach cobbler always hit the spot too. If you can catch this place open, GO! This is southern country cooking at its finest. The staff are also wonderful and always take great care of us. Family Owned Buffett. Get there early in Sunday!! They have pretty good food in a decent setting. It is an "after church" favorite on Sunday afternoons. The staff is very friendly and if you are going with locals they will be sure to see several people they know. The chicken is very good and the bread dressing is good as well. read more

Came in at 1:10 left at 2:10. I had a choice between: fish or chicken, hush puppies or Mexican corn bread, greens or green beans, peach cobbler or bread pudding. Plus more! We had a bad experience at lunch today. My grandparents and mother would eat here quite a bit. They have very good friend chicken. We came home for a visit and they wanted to have lunch here. As we were eating my mother was biting down on a fried green tomato and hurt her tooth on a sharp metal shard that was in the food! It cut my grandmothers finger. The manager did come out to apologize, and said they would take off a discount. When they checked out, they took just a couple dollars off my moms food, even through we did not eat anything else after that. They will not be going back ever. read more

Sub par service. Waited 20 minutes before we even got noticed and that was because we notified the Manger. Once manager got involved, service got better. Food was not bad. Bread pudding was very good. This was our 1st visit since opening and this was a Friday night during 4th weekend so if we come back it would be a weekday and I may give the fried catfish a shot. read more

This place fairly drips with that authentic Southern vibe. Low-key local crowd, unassuming setting, buttery comfort food. I'm a vegetarian, and they were great about letting me know what was seasoned with pork and what wasn't (unlike in some other places, where I've been stared at like an alien). Amazing hushpuppies, fried green tomatoes and cornbread, very good mac-n-cheese. Peach cobbler was decent, and salad bar was very bare bones. people in my party disagreed about the meat dishes, but consensus seemed to be: greens were good, fried chicken was so-so, fried fish was good.
