If you aren't a local you may not catch the name, but it is so good. I work close by and do not get to leave for lunch much, but I when I do, this place is a must. If you want southern seafood this place is your jam. Their Orleans fried green tomatoes are simply the best, along with other great appetizer like the fried dill pickles. This hole in the wall has the fish tacos that to me define fish tacos. They have a pickled onion slaw with it that I miss whoever I get fish tacos elsewhere. These are available blackened, grilled, or fried-but I love them blackened. I promise if the tacos go off the menu I will be devastated. read more

I'm writing this review with a little grace because I know Covid has businesses struggling to make ends meet, with higher food costs and reduced staff. Party of 3.5 for dinner. We had an appetizer of coconut battered shrimp with a mango based salsa. The shrimp were perfectly fried. We ordered a kids fish dinner, Half and half shrimp and oysters, shrimp and grits, and grilled shrimp dinner. All entree's came with a salad. The salads were fresh and the ranch dressing was tasty. So I wanted to sample everything so I could describe it properly. First, the Shrimp and Grits was a bed of grits with an Orleans cream sauce. There was a real depth to the sauce and it complimented the grits perfectly. The grilled shrimp were fantastic. Looked and tasted like Royal Reds and they were grilled to perfection. The spice level did not overpower the taste of the shrimp at all. Perfectly balanced dish. The shrimp and oyster platter featured a batter that took me straight back to the incredible taste of fresh fried shrimp and oysters cooked at a family gathering. I took my mother for a drive to Pascagoula today. We stopped for lunch at Off The Hook, which I randomly selected off the internet. What a great choice! The lunch menu is full of reasonable plate options. Everything sounded good, so it was hard to decide what to order. Mom and I both ordered the grilled catfish plate, with rice and green beans. The serving of all three items was very generous for a lunch plate, and everything was delicious! I had read good things about the bread pudding online, so we tried that also. It was likewise very good. The texture was moist and creamy. In a nice twist, they put craisins in their version. The sweetness level is just right. It was a nice ending to an overall great meal. The portions were MASSIVE, the prices were very reasonable, and the service was exactly why I love about being from Mississippi. Wonderful little local seafood restaurant! The food is awesome whether fried or grilled. Little known secret is they are "Gluten Free/Intolerant" friendly. Designated fryers and localized gluten areas in the kitchen. There is some flour in the kitchen and of course burger and po-boy buns, but I have eaten there several times without any issues. The crab cake special was the absolute best crab cakes I've had...and I remember talk about Evangeline's. Tom got a loaded shrimp po-boy (right up there with Bozo's). I also ordered a cup of gumbo. After driving all day from South Texas on our way to our home in North Georgia, we stopped in Pascagoula, Mississippi, tired and hungry. We decided to try "Off the Hook", based on previous reviews, and we are sure glad we did. We got there close to closing time, and were met with very friendly owners and the head chef, Josh. He recommended the special of the day, which sounded delightful, but I had my mind set on a shrimp and oyster combo, while the wife wanted crab cakes. The meals were fresh and plentiful, with the crab cakes hand made from the freshest crab meat. The shrimp and oysters were equally fresh. The chef, Josh, and the owner, John, insisted we try their freshly made gumbo, and brought us a bowl to share. It was delicious! Then they brought us a generous sample of the "to die for" bread pudding and accompanying special sauce.
