I love the food here. The ambience is pretty chill, and it's BYOB, so it's even better! I love the grilled squid, shrimp summer roll, loved the pho(owner is very proud of his pho),drunken noodles, amazing steamed dumplings, and am waiting to try other items on the menu. The service is excellent and they seem to be proud of the food they make. The owner is a very cool guy, and loves to interact with the customers with suggestions on the menu, or feedback from customers. This is a clean restaurant with reasonably fast service. The Lunch options don't have a vegetarian dish - soup has chicken broth. Red curry and Basil curry were good portions and tasty. The pad Thai was a disappointment - the oyster sauce was substituted but not with Tamarind sauce. read more

As someone who has and still runs restaurants, I'm taking time to leave these comments to help you. Please refrain from any defensive reply. I've been twice, and the flavors are good (thus 3 stars), not shy on spice so thumbs up on authenticity. Haven't tried pho though. Many expect value in asian food. Providing value is easy because many of the ingredients are inexpensive. E.g bbq chicken on rice @ $10 should have been a whole 4-6 oz chicken thigh not what looked like 2-3 oz of thin tiles of chicken I presume. It was so skimpy and small I cant swear it was chicken. You could've put a 4-5 ounce whole grilled piece of chicken like all Vietnamese restaurants do, and still profited $6+ on the $10 item. Food cost is often 30% or less in asian food. There was NOT $3 worth if food in that box. The other dishes chicken wraps $10, drunken noodles with shrimp $12, curry chicken $10 all pretty good in flavor and preparation but skimpy as other reviewers have noted. Note this last part. I won't likely return unless I read there have been changes. Please consider these comments a gift. I presume your rent is high and you may get locals to pay high prices for skimpy food because they don't know better. My 2 cents is you'd be better off providing value, doing more business and making money on volume. But I'm not being paid consulting fees so of course feel free to ignore. Any diner who knows better won't return. I will be taking the extra 15 min drive to philly. read more

Worst green curry I've ever had -- and I've had some bad curries over the years. I can't figure out why all the good reviews, there just wasn't anything good about any part of my meal. I ordered green curry with tofu and veggies. Veggies were MIA, tofu was poorly cooked, curry sauce was so runny I hesitate to call it "sauce" and tasted terrible. Too sweet, no heat, no flavor that even resembled any green curry I've ever had. Not worth the price, for sure. I won't be returning. read more

Well, this place opened just down the street from my apartment about six months ago so I finally decided to stop in for lunch. Before I wrote this review, I carefully read the previous three reviews. Respectfully, the first gentleman who had lunch must have spent $20 on all that food...for lunch. Two of those items he tried are listed as $6.95 and $7.95...the grilled pork sandwich was $3.50 for what basically is half the size of a shorti at Wawa. As for the other gentleman who purchased produce, they don't sell it anymore. There were just a few bags of potatoes in those baskets. There were still a few Thai grocery items, but now only two tables and a few chairs at the window sill. There were no customers when I arrived at 12:15pm on a Friday (summer). Perhaps everyone was beach bound already, granted. I ordered the Chicken Basil dish that was $6.95 and was surprised to find that an entree was so cheap, but when it arrived I found that it was served in a very small container and the portion size was very disappointing. This meal looked like a side dish. True: it was very very good. A great taste, but certainly not a fair deal for what it costs. The pieces of chicken and sliced peppers were tiny. I also had a can of diet Coke that was warm....either just put in the box or the box is kept at high temp. The place is very very clean, but certain details need attention...for example....the top of the Sriracha container was caked and clogged. I cleaned it myself. Well, I don't know what else to say. Very well cooked, deceivingly over priced. Not fair. read more

Was here a couple of weeks ago and forgot to give them a review. This place has the one of the best vietnamese food ever. Their banh mi is hands down far better than subway. They have such a large menu, you wouldn't know what to order when you get here. They offer food like pad thai, curry, rolls, and etc. If you get a chance and crave Vietnamese food, definitely try out this place. You will not regret it, I guarantee you. TLDR; Best Thai food I've ever had, you will be pleasantly surprised. Try the Pad Thai, Try the Crispy Noodles (with chicken), Try the Spring Rolls (they are awesome and not what I expected at all, trust me), Try anything with Bok Choy. I will definitely be going back. The food at Southeast Kitchen is out of this world. Everything that they served tasted absolutely divine. I get Pad Thai at every place that serves it and this place had the best tasting one hands down!! All of the food is freshly prepared and you can tell that nothing they serve has ever been frozen. I commented to the owner that the ingredients tasted very fresh and he told me that he goes all around the Philadelphia area to get the best and freshest ingredients he needs, and you can really taste it! Also, the prices are outrageously cheap for the quality of food you are getting, I almost felt guilty when I saw how low the bill was. There are 2 things I would change though (which aren't really even that big of a deal). 1.) there is no desert offered, and judging by the great quality of food, I would love to see what they could create for dessert and 2.) the inside needs to be remodeled to better suit the quality of food. It currently has the atmosphere of a To-Go Chinese food place but it is so much more than that. read more

We took our two young daughters there for dinner. The baby Shanghai bokchoy - a winner! Crunchy just cooked with hit of garlic. The fried chicken dumplings - the skin had just the perfect texture, thick and slightly chewy. The filling has a tiny kick from black peppers but not so spicy. Our six year old at them! Dumpling Soup - great fresh, delightful broth. The pork on rice - pork seasoned just right. Our six years old ate it up. Drunken noodle - if you like spicy, this is it, the noodle texture is wonderful, you can tell it's fresh noodle by its soft and slightly chewy consistency. I had the noodles with shrimp. The shrimp was cooked just through and large and yummy. Pad Thai with Chicken - Our nine year old were not used to the fresh bean sprout but we thought it was an authentic touch that gave the dish a satisfying texture typically missing from phad thais. Iced Coffee - "delicious" said my husband. We heard from the friendly owner he will slowly update the interior. We think that'd be nice but we will come back, just for the delicious food and attentive service. read more

We're down here for business twice a month and we're so glad we've found Southeast Kitchen!! The place is spot on for some serious Pho noodle soup and authentic asian cuisine! The Fried Tofu anything is awesome, their baby bok choi is super delicious! I can't wait to try out everything they offer! Since we'll be coming down here to Wilimington, DE for a while, this will give us time to try them all!! Great restaurant, great service, great prices and best of all .. the food! Not sure what has happened with SE Kitchen. Food is great, but last 2 experiences have been so poor they're off my list. Portions seem to have been cut in half. I recently ordered a special soup that came with broth filled to 1/3 of a small to-go container. When I called suggesting there was a mistake and should I return (for an $8 soup) I was told that is normal portion. Last night my chicken red curry was probably less than 1/2 of their normal portion, certainly no usual leftovers except all the rice that didn't align with the small portion. And don't forget the times in the past I've tried to order but couldn't because they turn their phone off when they're busy. read more

This place is excellent. A casual place with very tasty and authentic food. I ordered the Tom Kha Gai soup and Thai basil. The soup was so tasty as was the Thai Basil. The chilli pepper oil sauce that is used in these dishes is so tasty. I talked to Lai (I believe the owner and chef) and asked him about the chilli pepper oil sauce and was trying to get the recipe out of him but he would not tell me. But he was so kind that he filled a to go container full of that chilli pepper oil for me and told me how to make the soup. I made the soup at home with that sauce and it turned out fabulous. Lai told me the next time I am in town, to just stop by and ask for him and he would give me another container of that chilli oil sauce. I live in Washington, DC and it is almost worth the drive for me to come and eat at this restaurant. I will be coming back! read more

Second time coming here. My roommates have sworn by this place as authentic and delicious. Tonight, I got the pad Thai. I would have liked more fish sauce and more of a peanut butter based sauce than crushed peanuts on top. That being said, I do not know what truly makes up an "authentic Thai dish." Service is fast and pleasant. Unassuming decor. I want to like this place more than I do but I am not knocking the place, I just don't know if I need to try more Thai food to appreciate it. I hope that more people will discover this hidden gem in Trolley Square, the food and service are top notch. Very spartan decor but clean and tidy. The food is just amazing, mostly Vietnamese with some Thai but on one of my first visits the nce fellow at the counter said he was Cambodian. I haven't had the Pho yet but the spices are just a little different from most of the Vietnamese food that I have eaten. Try the summer rolls or the rice vermicelli with grilled protein. The Bahn Mi was superb as well. The portions are reasonable, and well balanced not too much of anyone thing. They get a little rushed at lunch and you might have to wait if you arrive at high noon but it's worth the wait. read more

FINALLY found a place that knows how to make a good pho broth! After trying 3 other places in West Chester, Kennett and Wilmington I was starting to lose hope. The beef pho was excellent, and all of the additions were fresh and plentiful. Bean sprouts were crisp, thai basil had nice large leaves, and the jalapeno slices were thick and fresh as well. My only tiny nitpicky comment is how the noodles were packed in the bottom of a Chinese takeout container.. it kind of made them so packed together that they never loosened into the hot broth, but I know that pho as a takeout item isn't the easiest to pack. Not a huge deal as a flavorful bone broth is the hallmark of any good pho and I was glad to finally find one that was rich and had depth. The staff was very friendly and as it's on my way home, I will definitely be back for sure, and recommend to anyone looking for decent pho in the area! read more

So we just watched the boss of the store fire a real nice employee name Tay. he told us he was fresh a couple months in as being a waitress and he was doing so well for his first time especially with how difficult we were being with ordering our food, he was helping everyone out on the floor as much as possible and I seen the frustration on his face but he smiled in front of each customer, not showing a sign of stress or anger, we waited about 15 minutes for waters, he couldn't get to use at first cause he was everywhere doing as much as possible,we Marques in our business but we couldn't stand to see how he was doing all he can and barely got any help, and he was asking for it. He was shocked because we didn't have orders and asked his boss as soon as he got done taking our order when the boss could have either got the waters himself or just been a good worker and helped. He tried to say he was yelling and he was perfectly calm with him, he tried to get our waters for us then we see the boss pull him over behind a door, a couple minutes later he's leaving with his coat, and just said to us "I hope you guys enjoy the food and the service" his boss has no respect for his employees and if he does at least not that employee, I wish I could've said something NV to him but he looked so angry I decided to let him go and cool off!!! I hope he's okay, he's a nice guy all around and we hope he gets treated way better. Great food and great service the boss seemed nice but not towards him, such a unprofessional thing to do as a store owner, he needs to understand how to treat his staff with respect... great place again but what I seen tonight was totally uncalled for, all he was trying to do was his job and he did his job the most professional way possible. We also heard the boss yell at him and say "you do what I say!!!" Really unprofessionally of him and real professional to that waiter for keeping his cool. I yelp once in a blue moon, but this left me feeling so disappointed and beat up that I have the urge to leave this review and it seems to be consistent with a lot of other reviews. Service was atrocious, but food was good. The middle aged gentleman who may have been the owner/cook was very nice and we got more attention from him (he at least checked on us to notice that we had incomplete food on the table) while he was cooking than we got from his daughter/niece who was waiting on us and seems to have been the hostess. She was very condescending, curt, impatient and simply unpleasant. There were 3 of us, two orders of the lunch special and one order from the main menu. The main menu entree arrived with only one of the lunch special entrees. After a good 5 minutes of us staring at the food while waiting for my soup and son's entire meal, they brought so rudely schlepped the soups and then the last entree on the table. Meanwhile, no interaction and no communication or apology for the level of service or the order in which items were served from the serving staff whatsoever, SHE was too busy training a new staff. We left feeling pretty crummy. I would never go back there again despite the fact that I really loved their food especially their Tom Yum soup. I would not recommend anyone stepping in that place unless they get rid of the hostess/waitress. read more
