Plump and delish, none of those flat, waxy wannabees
    Louis L.

GOOD: Nearly everything - food, quality and quantity for the price, friendly service and very effective website to order ahead BAD: Nothing really, it's take out/ delivery with a table so no atmosphere ( no problem) and that I have to drive 1.5 hours from MD - worth it (I happened to be in DE, all good). King Garden Wilmington is a noble and revered Chinese take out place going back to my lawschool days over 20 years ago - no lie. They make the same great food I used to get me through tough exams. Their plump fried dumplings are second to none and their cold sesame noodles are amazing. In the past I ordered the fried chicken combos and they were great. The front desk lady is very sweet and grateful for your visit. Give King Garden a try. It's one of the best Chinese takeout places in the Country (I've tried many!)

King Garden items are in the upper part of pics or the right part of the pictures. HK items are on the lower or left hand side of pics.

I just did a side by side comparison of the following items. I ordered the EXACT same items at Hong Kong and side by side will share pics and reviews. Here's the winning results: Eggrolls- Hong Kong- both had bits of meat, but HF had the better tasting, slightly saltier ones. Wontons- Hong Kong hands down- there was a lot more meat in theirs and King Garden was a little tougher to chew the wonton wrapper. Crab Rangoon- King Garden- the filling is slightly sweet, but they are the standard wonton wrapped and not the foldover/turnover style that are tougher to chew. White rice- King Garden- was cooked better and longer according to my teen. Pork fried rice- King Garden- had more veggies and smokier flavor. Sweet and sour sauce- King Garden- better flavor, less red dye and twice as large portion. Orange chicken- Hong Kong, flavor was better, but both had too much breading. King Garden- had more orange peel and broccoli. Shrimp lo main- Hong Kong was better tasting, but King Garden had larger shrimp and included mushrooms. Overall, both places had their strengths- Happy Fortune was 20% less expensive and included a free 2-liter. It was under $45 for HK and almost $55 for King Garden for food delivered plus I tipped $10 on top of that.

The food use to be good but a couple of times it was not like today. The food had no taste just bland. I won't be going back anymore.

The food is pretty good for chinese takeout places but the wait is ALWAYS an hour or more for delivery and we live less than 2 miles away.

We got there late and we're lucky they had a dozen crabs left they five you the option of spicy or not spicy seasoning ( I chose to buy them cooked but you can opt for uncooked) the guy behind the counter was not super friendly but not rude. He answered my questions patiently (which was nice since we came about an hour before last order can be taken). They text you when your order is ready and have it packed up nicely. And we got a bonus crab and lots of legs for being the last order of the night. The seasoning was good and spicy. Crabs and shrimp both delicious. And the shrimp had a sweetness to it. I'm skeptical when it comes to buying steamed crabs since I cook my own; but Jae's did an excellent job. I ordered a dozen large spicy male crabs. The claws and legs were full of meat and flavorful. If you're looking for steamed crabs without the disappointment, check out Jae Seafood . I purchased early in the day around 1130-noon, the quality and service was great. Facts: I walked in placed my order, asked the price ($47), and was told 25 mins. I received a text when done and it was worth the wait. This business has a new customer. Yes, I measured the crab and each one was about the same size.

I heard of this place before but hadn't been and luckily they were still open that late so we headed over there. It was a Friday night, so the place was pretty full, with music playing throughout with some people our aged mixed on the college students there. We lucked out with two seats at the bar. For drinks, I initially ordered the Blue Rock Lemonade - in my mind I thought it would taste or be similar to lemonade cocktail drink I've had before... It was not that lol. Though I normally do like drinks on the sweeter side, this one was too much for me. But it may appeal to others taste. I ended up just asking for the same thing my boyfriend got which was a Margarita (I think pineapple flavor) which was much more satisfying. Again, we both were hungry and didn't feel like sharing apps or being there too late since we had to get up early. The Seafood Linguine caught my eye, so I ordered that while he got the Fish 'N Chips. There's was different in that they used catfish - we are used to seeing cod or haddock - but it came out pretty good. My dish was also pretty good, with a good mixture of seafood (shrimp, crab meat, mussels, clams) in it. We would come here again - earlier time though - to check out other items on the menu.

My friend and I arrived a bit early for our reservation, but were quickly greeted and offered a beverage menu. Their cocktail options are creative and constantly changing, often featuring some unique foam toppers. On this particular occasion, I started with the Strawberry Kiwi Spice Margarita, which included some cardamom to add depth and warmth to the fruity drink. I also ordered the Apricot Ginger Sour, a consistent favorite bourbon cocktail with a little zing from the lemon foam on top. Both drinks were excellent. For starters, we selected a few of the fresh oysters as well as a scallop special made with a lemon beurre blanc. The scallops were perfectly cooked, and I was grateful the dish came with sourdough to sop up every last drop of that delicious beurre blanc. My entree was where things went awry. I tend toward pescetarian options and selected the lone fish on the menu that night: skate wing. My first few bites were great, though slightly oversalted. However, eventually the mouthfeel evolved into a burning, ammonia taste, and I unfortunately wasn't able to finish the dish. My friend who also had the skate wing, however, did not have that experience (and I tried a bite of hers to confirm, too!). I know skate wing can be tricky to prepare and this is a known potential issue, but it was disappointing. Luckily, dessert was fabulous once again --- we chose the coconut creme brulee which was delightful. I'm sure I'll be back. Just no skate wing for me!
