I visited on a Saturday night. It was $14 for this giant portion of orange chicken. It was huge and I think I can eat this for 3 to 4 meals. The chicken was delicious. It was so addicting and savory while still being a little bit sweet. Delicious. The service is fast. You just walk to the front and order and can just take a seat and wait. I would recommend ordering through your phone or calling for pick up to save wait time. It's like any typical family owned. Small Chinese takeout place. I've eaten here many many times and the food is always delicious. I normally get the general chicken platter and 2 shrimp rolls along with crab rangoons and egg drop soup. I've had the chow mei fun,egg foo young and the beef and broccoli and have never been disappointed. The people are very friendly that work there. There's 2 tables to sit inside to eat in but I normally took it to go and ate at my hotel room next door. The ambiance is just your normal place but clean. read more

I just did a side by side comparison of the following items. I ordered the EXACT same items at Hong Kong and side by side will share pics and reviews. Here's the winning results: Eggrolls- Hong Kong- both had bits of meat, but HF had the better tasting, slightly saltier ones. Wontons- Hong Kong hands down- there was a lot more meat in theirs and King Garden was a little tougher to chew the wonton wrapper. Crab Rangoon- King Garden- the filling is slightly sweet, but they are the standard wonton wrapped and not the foldover/turnover style that are tougher to chew. White rice- King Garden- was cooked better and longer according to my teen. Pork fried rice- King Garden- had more veggies and smokier flavor. Sweet and sour sauce- King Garden- better flavor, less red dye and twice as large portion. Orange chicken- Hong Kong, flavor was better, but both had too much breading. King Garden- had more orange peel and broccoli. Shrimp lo main- Hong Kong was better tasting, but King Garden had larger shrimp and included mushrooms. Overall, both places had their strengths- Happy Fortune was 20% less expensive and included a free 2-liter. It was under $45 for HK and almost $55 for King Garden for food delivered plus I tipped $10 on top of that. read more

I ate at King Garden Chinese more than 25 years ago when I worked part time retail at I. Goldberg; the army/navy clothes/camping store that isn't there anymore more. It felt like a little hole-in-the-wall then, an undiscovered gem in Delaware's Diamond-five years or more, King Garden remains so. My only 'complaint,' if one would even call it that, is that I got a different entrée order than I requested. Of course that shouldn't happen to anyone, ever; it was a fluke the other I got was a favourite. I ate lunch here pretty regularly when I worked retail at the old I. Goldberg (I'm dating myself), now the Wells Fargo. It was quick, good food then and I'm pleased to say the same for it now. I was so hungry I ate an egg roll in the car. Because I was soo hungry, I ate my egg roll vertically, like a kid with a popsicle on the beach. The first bite became a bit bready as one may expect, but it was steaming hot and full of ingredients. I was able to put some duck sauce on the roll and my world was perfect for a moment or two. While I finished that egg roll, I noticed a steady stream of customers coming and going. I wouldn't say it was busy, but a customer in or out every 3-5 minutes is pretty steady and was a good sign for King Garden! While I ordered the combination plate Chicken with Cashews, I got (I think) Chicken with Garlic Sauce. Since that's my other go-to dish, I didn't call and make an issue of it, but that's my reason for 4 stars instead of 5. I've been coming to King Garden for the better part of 20 years. Usually I just come in and order take-out but recently I've stayed in to eat. The egg rolls are some of the best, but they don't always let all of the oil drain off before serving them so the drip oil and taste oily. Just about everything I have had has been good. The wonton soup is flavorful but sometimes the wonton dough is too thick. Beef and broccoli and chicken and broccoli are tasty but the broccoli is barely cooked and pretty much raw I always ask them to cook it a bit longer when I order. My favorite by far is the sweet and sour chicken but the sweet and sour shrimp is equally good. General Tso's chicken is really good with the heat sneaking up on you. I'm not really a fan of fried rice but I do like their's. I've tried too many dishes to name them all here but for the most part they've been good. One negative is that if you are eating in they don't have cups, ice or water and tea is out, you have to buy bottled water or soda and it's not cheap. I solved that problem by bringing my own. With any luck I'll be able to eat here for the next 20 years. read more

I've lived in Delaware for 10 years and I must say, it is hard to find a good Chinese takeout joint. Either they have bugs, spoiled food, or are just dirty. I would drive to New Jersey to get Chinese food, but thanks to King Garden I don't have to anymore. The food is a bit pricey for takeout, but it's worth it. This Chinese takeout is in the Tally Ho Shopping Center, at the southeast corner of Naamans Road and Concord Pike. It is a bit cheaper than others in the area, at least as far as lunch specials go. Service was efficient and fast, although I was there at a time when they weren't busy. Where this place comes out ahead though is in their fried rice. I like that it isn't the typical yellow fried rice that other Chinese takeouts use. One downside to this place though is the strip mall. When you drive out of the lot, it's a right turn only, which may not be convenient depending on where you need to go next. read more

This is my go-to place for Chinese food. The flavor and portions are excellent right down to the won-ton soup! The broth is not bland or pale yellow in color. It has more depth to its flavor including the dumplings. The roast pork egg foo young is excellent and always looks and tastes fresh with brightly colored greens, nice sized pork chunks and flavorful gravy. I have found that it is difficult to find a place that makes a good Crab Rangoon but this place also does that right! Everything I have ordered from here is excellent and very tasty. The shrimp rolls are are also a favorite of mine. I highly recommend trying this place and you will order from here again and again! read more

Wow...this place has really gone down hill...a few years ago I lived nearby and ordered from here at least twice a week....tonight I was in the area and looked forward to some above average Chinese takeout....I was sorely disappointed.....I ordered a small container of the eggdrop soup and the Genseral Tao's chicken combination platter. The egg drop soup was awful....absolutely no flavor at all, totally bland and really had a taste of dishwater and I'm not kidding.....the egg roll must have been in the freezer for months, again absolutely no flavor at all and the cabbage inside had the color of the cardboard roll inside a roll of toilet paper....the General Tso's chicken was disgusting, small acorn sized pieces of fried dough basically. After biting several in half and finding none with anything that resembled chicken inside I gave up.......the fried rice was overcooked, even the fried wantons that come in the little paper bag were stale. See the picture to see everything I ended up chucking in the garbage because it was inedible.....do yourself a favor and drive another half mile to the Chinese place by the Giant supermarket....you'll be so thankful. read more

Here's an absolutely ridiculous story from this place: I went here with one of my friends (both mid-late 20's) to get some Chinese Food. I've eaten at this location before, never great, but never horrible. I ordered the general tso's chicken and the crab rangoon's. Crab Rangoon's were ok, but my general tso's chicken had an odd taste. After spitting out three straight, decently sized pieces because of the odd taste, I decided to say something. I didn't want money back, but more so just maybe a smaller replacement. I got to the front and politely said, "Hey, I've had this here before and it has always been fine. Just today it has an odd taste." Mind you no one was in this restaurant (I would avoid saying something with costumers in the vicinity). The response I got was, "Well, you ate more than half so no refund. We make plenty of general tso's there's no way yours tastes different." I was a bit shocked that she argued that I 1. tasting wrong and 2. I attached a photo of the general tso's because it's definitely not more than halfway finished. I don't know if she thought I wanted money or what, which I stated a few times that I didn't want (just food that didn't taste like a dirty fish bowl, I was really hungry). I responded, a tad thrown off, "Are you arguing with me about what my food tasted like? By all means try it." (she didn't) but instead she continued saying that I ate half of the food and how I shouldn't get a refund (I legit never asked for a refund). I don't know what it was about my approach that triggered her, my friend was there and any customer that entered that restaurant will testify on what went down after this. There were two customers coming in and I said, "I dont want to be rude to these people, we can talk after they leave." Instead, after the two people ordered, she said "You want to go again?" to me while I was sitting down with my friend. This time? She basically just yelled at me for about 15 minutes in front of her very uncomfortable looking customers/my very uncomfortable friend. At this point I didn't want to argue so I just calmly kept saying "I didn't say something about my food to insult you, but when you tried to argue about how my food tasted it was kind of rude. It's over now, i'll take the loss on the food" (she kept the food btw). After 10 more minutes of her obnoxious "You're a piece of shit for complaining rant" which was very odd, I said "I know I may look young, and you feel that you could speak to me this way, but I don't think you'd be saying this to anyone that is 40 years old" She kept ranting about how she would and age doesn't matter (she legit was arguing about the taste of food that she refused to try, what ever happened to the customer is always right?) The big bang of this story was when I completely stopped responding and she yelled for another 10 minutes, followed up by kicking my friend and I out of the restaurant. She did it in a somewhat polite way (as polite as you could be for kicking someone out of a restaurant) but I was kicked out for literally saying "this tastes kind of weird" which it did. Maybe she was having a bad day, maybe saying food tastes strange is an insult to her, maybe she thought I was younger than I am (no excuse), or maybe she didn't like the color of my skin (I'm Brazilian). I don't know what the reason for my encounter, but this place is usually fine. It's just a shame that my one bad encounter with the place happened to be THAT bad. My friend and I are adults who are about to graduate from a law school down the street from the restaurant. It was mortifying to be kicked out of a restaurant in that manner (tho polite). I hope this could be a funny story and perhaps a lesson learned for the manager who acted in such a poor way to the slightest complaint. If you're reading this and you're sorry, I am sure I'll get over it. Everyone has a bad day. Now, if you see this and you're not sorry, I hope you treat future customers with more respect. read more

This place used to be my go to place for chinese food.....the only reason being is that there were no other chinese places in the area. I never loved their food but really didn't have much choice unless I wanted to pick up the food and drive a fair distance to do so. I never understood why there weren't any other chinese restaurants around the area. I always found their meat to be slimey and the vegetables to be soggy. I usually ordered the General Tsao's chicken. The meat would always be very chewy and some pieces would be inedible. I have ordered from this restaurant for many years. Mostly picked up my orders. However, recently I was just too tired to drive out, so I decided to have my order delivered. My order arrived in a timely manner. When I went to add a tip to my CC order, the driver yelled "What..no tip?!?!" I then changed my mind, and replied "No...not anymore!!!!" I then called the store back to express my displeasure with his attitude, and how I didn't want him to return to my home in the future.
