Disappointing. This was the closest Chinese place to my friend's new apartment, and the prices and selection looked good so we took a walk over to check it out. Although it doesn't say anywhere, the photos clearly show a dining area so we thought we could go and eat there. Nope, no tables to be found. It felt like walking into a sleazy check cashing place, with the kitchen and staff behind metal fencing. Well, we were here anyway, so we ordered. The staff was friendly and the food came pretty quick, but that's about the only highlight of this visit. We walked back to his place and started to eat, and... were very disappointed. The food was bland. Not explicitly bad, but it was just meh. My pork egg roll had no pork in it - just cabbage. The General Tso's looked like it'd been made with ketchup. Overall a disappointing experience. I doubt we'll go here again. read more

First time order via Door Dash. We bought L22. Hunan Shrimp and the L20. General Tso's Chicken. My brother had the General Tso's, and he said it tasted all right. My meal was bland, lacked spices and heat. And there were maybe three shrimp in the container. The taste didn't improve with all the soy sauce. I didn't finish it, even though I hate wasting food. I gave them two stars because my brother enjoyed his meal, but we won't be ordering from them again. read more

The food is absolutely delicious! Everything is delivered hot and fresh, and they are so friendly! Delivery is fast and efficient, and the order is always correct, never anything missing! Try this place out! You won't be disappointed! read more

I ordered my son & I shrimp fried rice and he had wings fry hard. Why did I get my food with a banging headache on the may .1st, 2024 and it was just plain nasty yellow rice? No onions, no scallion onions, nothing green was spotted in sight. No flavor plain disgusting if I felt like driving I would've took it back~ Never eat here!! read more

Pop-pop, it's showtime (showtime) showtime (showtime)! Guess who's back for another amazing Yelp review? They don't know (they don't know)? Bet they know as soon as they read a couple paragraphs, it's J-Crow! What's up Yelp? I've been busy with school lately, and have only had time for a review here and there, but I thought I had to sign in and post about this awesome Chinese jawn, especially when I saw it only had 3 stars. I went here at around 6 o'clock tonight in search of a place that was still a. open b. accepted credit cards and c. wasn't on the Northside (cough cough China King). Joyful Garden delivered. I got the General Tso's with the egg roll for like $8. First off, as you can see from the picture, I just want other Chinese places to take note at the chicken/broccoli ratio. NO ONE LIKES BROCCOLI. Got it? It only adds to the aesthetics. I don't think anybody actually bothers eating them. The chicken was pretty good, not burnt, but the best part was the delicious sauce that it was drenched in. I mean they really caked that sh/it in, and I just want you to know, JG, I appreciate it. The place was also well run, and had fast service. If you're looking for Chinese on the west side, this is your place. Also, there was a sign that made me laugh. Someone already posted a pic of it, so I won't, but it was a picture of lettuce that said: "WOW!!! GREEN LEAFY VEGETABLES. EAT MORE GREEN MORE HEALTHY" First off, no one gets that excited over a picture of lettuce, and also, who the hell wrote that sentence? Did the guy have a nephew with Down Syndrome and he put him in charge of the signs? And that's no disrespect to the awesome Down Syndrome community. But that is sometimes how they write. Anyway, if I didn't already sell you on this place in my review, I hope that sign will. I mean you got to eat more green more healthy bro. Eat more green more healthy bro. read more

I don't really like the taste of the food here. The sauce on the chicken and broccoli was not good. The chicken in the house special fried rice didn't look, feel (texture wise), or taste anything like chicken. I just ate around them because it was definitely not the same that was in my chicken and broccoli. There aren't a lot of good Chinese stores in Wilmington so I figured I write this for the next I want Chinese food I will be reminded to not get it here. read more

Traveling south and stayed in Wilmington. First time stopping there. After an 11 hour drive, just wanted comfort food, which is usually Chinese. Disappointed in wonton soup, pork fried rice, vegetable lo mein, but surprised by orange chicken. Not very orangey, but a good texture and taste. Will have to investigate other Chinese here. This one has limitations. Not recommended. read more

Joyful Garden is our favorite Chinese food in Wilmington so far (we've only lived here half a year). The lady that works the counter most nights is sweet as can be, always friendly and has never messed up an order. I strongly advise delivery if ordering at night; the restaurant is on a darkly lit downtown side street. I don't want to stereotype the neighborhood but at the same time I would never send someone down there alone to pick up food after the sun goes down. Safety first--have it delivered! Portions and prices are on par with any other Chinese take-out place. Shrimp with broccoli, their hot and sour soup, and the bean curd dishes are our favorites. My only complaint is that the curry is fairly nondescript. I've requested "extra spicy" a few times and the results are random and not significantly different from the 'normal' curry. I'm happy to continue my hunt for great Chinese curry elsewhere and stick with the other menu items here that are done much, much better. Summary: until someone offers a better Chinese take out I haven't tried in Wilmington, this is the best of the category. read more

Being in the downtown/Brandywine Park area of Wilmington, not many places deliver to residents. That being said, this place is wonderful even without having much competition. Their prices are really reasonable, and the food prepared perfectly. I can order a feast for our family of four and keep it under $30 with enough left over for lunch the next day, and they have really great coupons on their menu. They always get my order right, even when I stray from the menu and order bean curd with black bean sauce and steamed broccoli, a dish that my children love. Every one I have dealt with has always been extraordinarily friendly and helpful. The food is always fresh, hot, and never greasy. I really can't say enough nice things about this place. A family favorite. read more

I am staying down the road at the Execustay by Marriot (An absolute abomination of an extended stay) and this place is about two steps away from my hotel. I am impressed by not only the quality, but the quantity and value of the food from this location. I ordered Cream cheese rangoons, and sweet and sour chicken and the food was delivered piping hot and was delicious. I would recommend eating here to anyone trapped in the financial district. Just don't walk there at night. It's not dangerous... it just feels a bad zombie movie once all the bankers go home for the day. read more

I've only had their fried dumplings, but they taste great and are perfectly priced. I'm just overjoyed that they found my keys and held them for me!!! Great service, great little spot! read more

I'm wondering if the owners changed, because the food here has gone down in quality over the past 3 years. I always loved to order from here because they carry Ho Fun noodles, which is a favorite of mine. My coworkers stopped ordering after a few instances of clumpy sauce and bad textured chicken. I recently placed an order from Door Dash and the food was easily the worst Chinese that I had in a while. Sauces were clumpy and salty, meat was awful, dumplings bland. read more

Worst experience ever! Do not waste your money! I ordered a shrimp lo mein, extra spicy no vegetables & got shrimp lo mein with extra vegetables not spicy. Called back in to let them know they made a mistake and the woman argued me down I didn't tell her my order correctly. Will never order again read more

Joyful Garden - Chinese Near Me - Wilmington, Delaware

Most horrible experience!!!! Placed an order for delivery. Provided my address with zip code. The restaurant confirmed delivery within 45-50 minutes. They called 20 minutes later to say they couldn't deliver because the address I provided was over 5 miles. I knew this was a lie so I checked while on the phone and it was only 2.8 miles. She then said google was inaccurate. This place is a waste of time! STAY AWAY AT ALL COST! SERVICE IS NOT RELIABLE SO THEREFORE THEIR FOOD MOST LIKELY IS NOT RELIABLE TOO! LIARS LIARS LIARS.!!!!! Nothing good comes out of liars!!!!!!! read more

This evening makes the last time my friends and I will order from Joyful Garden. I ordered online and no less than three times, when I was ready to proceed to checkout, I was told I hadn't yet ordered. It took me at least 30 minutes to be able to finally place our order. Not only did they mess up this order, but had done so several times in the past. When our order arrived, they made a mistake on several items. I immediately telephoned the restaurant and tried to explain the problem. I was told the manager would be with me shortly. When he came on, I tried to explain the problem. I explained about the website error. I tried to explain about the mistakes with our order. Not once was an apology given for the inconvenience. At the end of a frustrating and unproductive 20 minutes, he said I needed to speak with the manager. I don't know why he failed to tell me initially he wasn't the manager. In short, I spent over 20 minutes trying to explain the problem to someone I could barely understand and who I'm sure, barely understood me, failed properly identify himself, and yet insisted upon arguing with me. When I was finally able to speak with the manager, I ended up pretty much repeating myself. At least she could be understood. However, she also suggested I telephone my order rather than use the website. I informed her this wasn't the only time that they had made mistakes with our order, and that those orders had been placed by telephone. Not once did the employee or the manager offer to replace the wrong order with the right one. Not once did either admit that they had messed up the order. Has this been the first time Joyful Garden had messed up our order, I and my friends would've let it go. However given the above, I and my friends won't be ordering from Joyful Garden for a very long time, if ever. They lost business tonight by losing four good customers. And they didn't even care. read more

One star is even pushing it. I ordered delivery food going against what few other yelpers have posted. I have honestly never been served such horrific food in my life. The "chicken fried rice" is something that appears to be chicken like, sitting in orange Mexican-like rice. I couldn't even try the other food as it smelled horrific and was so hard I decided it wasn't worth it. Stay far far away. read more

Joyful Garden - Never in my life have I been served such horrific food. - Chinese Near Me - Wilmington, Delaware

Ever since I started working in downtown Wilmington, I searched wide and far for a chinese food spot for lunch. Not only does Joyful Garden offer the convenience of online ordering, they give you a 5% discount for ordering online. Also, repeat customers can redeem a stamped "rewards card" for a free meal after so many orders. Of course the food isn't authentic chinese food, but it certainly does the job of filling you up, all while tasting pretty darn good. My go-to lunch orders are Chicken/Beef with Garlic Sauce, Szechuan Chicken/Beef or General Tsos Chicken. I'd avoid the egg rolls as they are quite anaemic when it comes to the filling. Where else can you get a full meal and drink for $6 in downtown Wilmington? The staff are always working hard and fast to get orders out as fast as possible, especially during lunchtime. I have yet had a negative experience with respect to waiting for my order. My order is always ready within 15 minutes of placing it. read more

I absolutely LOVE THIS PLACE. You get free Half & Half drinks with spending over a certain amount of money. One of the best restaurants I've been to in the country when it comes to taste and price as well. read more

I'm giving this place 5 stars because THEY DELIVER! I'm here on business and was hoping for some delivery asian food and this is the ONLY place I found that does so! They did give me free iced tea with the delivery and the prices were very cheap. I wouldn't say the food is all that terrific but it definitely statisfied my asian food craving. It was delivered quickly. The food does not deserve 5 stars but the delivery does! read more

I ordered a vegatable fried rice and fried chicken from this restaurant. It was delivered in less than 45 min and it tasted good. What can I say, great service. read more

Have ordered from here several times and you can't beat the value. Best thing so far was General Tso's chicken but I'm sure Orange chicken is good too. Yangzhou fried rice isn't on the menu but it is also very good. Iced tea is pretty tasty too surprisingly since it's not an Chinese specialty. read more

I've lived in the city for almost 3 years. By far the best tasting Chinese food in the city. Fried rice is perfect and the Singapore Mei Fun is my favorite. The delivery service is fast and the prices are good. The only thing iffy I have to say is the location. If its late at night I would certainly suggest the delivery service. Other than that the food is amazing. read more

Got the General Tso... Asked for it to be spicy, thinking they would throw I a few peppers..basically was coated in a weird hot sauce .... The chicken was not chicken... More like ground up chicken parts formed in a ball, lost my appetite. read more

Was not feeling the food. I like the fact that they have a lower order minimum to deliver but I will not be ordering from here again. I ordered the combo platter of the shrimp and lobster sauce and an order of the BBQ spare ribs. Both are easy to make and yet this place screwed it up. The ribs barely had any meat on them and made me think they were from malnourished cows or something. The entree had rice that was terrible and the sauce was just lacking in the flavor. I think I will stick with the vending machine the next time around. read more

Good cheap chinese food!!! I always get the shrimp fried rice and yummy egg roll!!! Under $5 too!!!

Great Chinese food! Perfect for a lazy Sunday because the delivery is quick!

Absolutely terrible. Worst Chinese me and my friend have ever had. Avoid like the plague.

Service is okay, but food was blah. Worst general tso chicken ever

The pork fried rice that came with my beef and vegetable entree had only blackened pieces of pork, and no vegetables. The vegetables themselves were plentiful although they a strange aftertaste I can't quite describe. The beef while tender, tended to be unpleasantly fatty. read more

Very unhappy with their delivery service/ customer service !! Order food for delivery and about an hour in I noticed my food still hadn't been delivered so I called the restaurant and was told my the cashier that my food was on its way another hour passed !!! Called them back now told the delivery guys car broke down!!! So when I immediately requested a refund because I paid on their website. They at like they wasn't going to give me one. I called several times that evening and they kept telling me they gave it back. Long story short the next afternoon still showing in my account that they never refund my money. So once again I called them back they said a manger will call me shortly they never did so I called back and threatened that they either refund the money now or I am coming up to the place.. Miraculously my money was refunded . What's worse they never offered a discount later or an extra egg roll on my next order. I was a regular customer so their food is good but they lost me a a customer. read more

I don't understand why they raise the prices and serve you non devained shrimp

I have ordered from here numerous times since my review and my experiences have been better and better. Everything I order is delicious and still piping hot when it it arrives. Minimum for delivery is $10, and with a $10+ order you get a variety of free items, so I am at least guaranteed a free huge container of their homemade iced tea with every order. Yum! read more

first time we ordered food was good, second time it tasted like they dropped a bottle of soap on the food. Long delivery times to boot. Will not order from again read more

The sweet and sour chicken was good. I asked for shrimp fried rice and was given some yellow looking rice with nothing in it. And I didn't like it. The crab rangoon was not at all the best I've had, but not the absolute worst. I probably won't order it again though. The egg drop soup smelled "different" and didn't taste that great and the strips you put in the soup were stale. I won't be ordering that again. Chinese donuts were excellent. I'm not completely giving up on them, but I expected a little better based on reviews. read more

Worst Chinese food , the Crab Ragoons took one bite and had to spit it out tasted like soiled fish, curry chicken so greasy I threw it out also. read more

I ordered from here for the first time based on the reviews from yelp. The prices were great and I loved the food. I am very picky about Chinese food. I ordered Fried Wontons, sweet and sour chicken and pork fried rice. The wontons were perfect. I liked the chicken. I have not had pork fried rice that tasted so good. My order was over $10.00 so they gave me their homeade tea free. It is really good. read more

This was my first and last time ever ordering from this place. I ordered the cheese crabmeat wonton and it was horrible and i ordered the chicken wings with plain fried rice. I asked for hot sauce on the wings but I mean did they have to put the entire bottle of sauce on them. My chicken wings were soaked in hot sauce and the wings were completely soggy like they were not ever fried. I called and asked could they remake the wings, didn't even ask for my money back and the man kept hanging up in my ear. I asked to speak to the owner and left my phone number. I doubt I will ever get a call back but I absolutely will never EVER eat here again. The customer service is horrible and I can't say if the wings were good or not because I couldn't taste it due to the hot sauce!!! read more
