Four of us had dinner there last night: the shrimp, the veggie plate, the meat and 2, the beet salad, the octopus, key lime pie and carrot cake. Veggies on plate and meat and 2: brussel sprout greens, asparagus, slaw, fries. We shared and voted: the shrimp, the beets, and the cornbread with the meat and 2 were best. The greens, biggest disappointment. Octopus, not interesting. Best reason to go: the outside dining. It wasn't a beautiful, lovely spot with any sort of beautiful, lovely view; but it was outside, the food was ok, we didn't have to cook and clean up for ourselves, and we enjoyed each others' company. read more

If you order without questions, this is a really nice place for you. We had the absolute most clueless server - he didn't know what was in the food, and offered gluten free options when I asked for vegan. ???????? His vague descriptions clearly indicated that he hoped I'd give up veganism right there on the spot and just order something. A few favorite quotes from Mr. Clueless Server - "Oh well the tomato basil soup might have some cream in it, but it's probably just half and half anyway." "I mean, I don't think there's anything in the collard greens but if we use lard, you probably can't even taste it anyway." "I guess there could be butter - I don't know." He never brought out a manager and just kept trying to brush me off, and was visibly annoyed every time I said "well can you find out for sure?" I'm giving 2 stars because the burger was decent. The fries tasted like they had been fried once and someone thought it would be a good idea to fry them again, i.e. burnt old grease taste. Took forever to get water refills and it took forever to get the checks. I worked lunch service before at a restaurant and it's FAST, that's your best bet if your party is at work. SMH. Honestly I think our server was being overworked. Here's a tip, help your co-worker if you see their struggling with their tables. The most egregious portion of this experience came from the wait. We arrived at 12:05pm for lunch. I actually mentioned to the server we were at work and on a time constraint, you know, like a lot of people who come out for lunch. We didn't get our food until after 1:00pm!!!!!!!!!!! Unacceptable!!!! Myself and the members of my party have said that we would not come here again for lunch. I can't do it. read more

This little place is tucked away off peachtree industrial. Seems to be more accommodating to reservations but sitting at the bar was not bad at all. You can see that they do care about the experience being I kept getting asked if everything was ok. It was and so was the food. Very attentive staff along with management. Great Southern cuisine with a beautiful rustic feel!! First off, it took me forever to find out this place was even here because the usual restaurants you find near buford hwy are either korean, vietnamese, chinese or mexican. So it was to my surprise that this little southern gem was even there. Now, it isn't exactly on buford hwy but it's only one street over so it's close enough. For parking, they have their own private lot so parking wasn't really hard. But what I really want to say about their parking lot is that it looks super pretty with the lights hanging down around the lot. It's the kind of lights that you would put up when you want to host a nice evening party out in your backyard but you also want your friends to know that you've been on pinterest so you put them up just for the aesthetic appeal. Long story short, they just look really nice. They also have 3 BGE's outside which lets you know it's gonna be good. Now, the interior has a very rustic southern feel with a great looking bar. Very relaxed atmosphere. They have plenty of seating on the main floor but they also have seating on the second floor as well. I came on like a Thursday afternoon so I just had lunch and there wasn't too many people there. But I hear that can get pretty packed at night and they also have open mic on tuesday nights!! The food was great. I WISH I could tell you that I remembered what the name of it was but I picked it at the spur of the moment and since some of their menu items are seasonal, I couldn't find it): But either way, their menu is great, definitely worth a try. It may seem a bit pricey but the portions are big, you'll definitely leave full. Also, the service was pretty good. Quick service and nice staff. Overall, great food and awesome atmosphere. This one star rating is specifically for the valet service I received on Wednesday night. As I pulled into the parking lot, I stopped behind a car in front of me. After the valet parked his car, I stepped out of my vehicle to hand the valet my keys. I was told by the valet to pull my car up so he wouldn't have to walk an extra 5 feet to my car. Then he walked away. I was confused as to why he would ask me to pull my car up as I had already turned off my ignition and stepped out of the car. In addition the next available parking spot was directly next to me, so it made no sense to pull my car up any further. So I simply parked my car in the next open space. Then as I exit my vehicle he approaches me and tells me that he works on tips. I tell him that I understand and walk towards the restaurant. But he decides to follow me and said "So where is my tip?" So I take my keys and hand it to him thinking he would take it so that he could bring my car to me as I was leaving the restaurant and give him the tip then. But instead, he says to me "you can just give me my tip now." So I tell him I'll just get him on the way out. As I am leaving the restaurant, he confronts me in the parking lot and asked me again for his tip. He said it in a threatening tone, so I make a quick remark to say thanks and walk away towards my car. He continues to stare at me all the way until I leave the parking lot. I'm not sure in what world a parking attendant refuses to park or return your car for you but then demands a tip having done nothing to earn it. The restaurant needs to take a serious look into their valet service and determine if they are providing the quality of service that they intend to provide to their patrons. I gave him every opportunity to EARN his tip. I got out of my car, I tried to hand him my keys, all rejected. When he showed no interest in providing any type of service, yet threateningly asked me for a tip, that was the last straw for me. read more

Came to Southbound for a birthday dinner a couple weeks ago. We were seated upstairs, which I later found out to be Moonbird Coffee. I visited at night, and they had lights strung up in the parking lot and the porch. It gave off a real romantic starry night kind of feeling. The inside was just as nice too and very spacious. The staff was friendly and helpful. Our server was especially patient too. Being a part of a party of 15ish people who changed seats after ordering must have made it extra difficult for the server to keep track of who ordered what. But I believe everyone got their correct order. I was iffy about this place when I glanced at the menu since I'm not a huge fan of southern foods. So I settled with a medium rare SB Burger + Fries ($12). Figured I can't go wrong with a burger, and I was right! It was really good. Several people ordered the Smoked Short Ribs ($28) and raved about how good it was. I had a taste and didn't really like the BBQ sweet BBQ sauce that was on top of the short ribs. Another person ordered the Southern Ramen ($16) and didn't like it. Initially, this was something I was going to order since I like ramen BUT this is not typical asian ramen. Make sure you read the description, it has collard greens, black-eyed peas, deviled eggs and smoked pork. After looking at some pictures of the Southern Ramen posted by fellow yelpers, I knew this was not for me. Overall, the food is overpriced for me. My burger was good, no regrets there. Southbound is a great little spot. I met a friend for dinner on a Tuesday night and was quite impressed with the ambiance and vibe. I live in the Atlanta but work in the burbs and Chamblee was a good in between spot for us to meet. The restaurant is established in what looks like an old factory. Im not sure exactly what the building was formerly and wasn't able to find this info on their website, but it makes for a very unique setting- kind of rustic, but chic. We arrived for a 6:30 reservation and were seating within a few minutes. I would recommend a reservation because they did fill up fast. I started with a "B&B Old Fashioned". I am assuming it is named for "B&B railroad" but didn't ask. The drink was a bit too sweet for me which was surprising because usually an Old Fashioned is more balanced. I definitely finished the drink but wouldn't have ordered another one. For my meal, I ordered the Fried Brussels Salad. It was so good. I love brussels and these were perfection. They combined them with roasted sweet potatoes, cauliflower, gorgonzola, pecans and blueberries. The blueberries seemed like an odd addition but everything worked well together. I would definitely order this again and again. It was large enough for a meal but would also be a good appetizer if you have several people. There were plenty of other vegetarian options on the menu that I would like to try - a cauliflower steak, veggie plate, and other salad options. We decided to order dessert as well. I tried the vegan carrot cake. It was a miss for me. It came out really hot and the coconut icing that I was excited about had melted into what looked like a glaze. It honestly looked like melted coconut oil. It also looked more like a cupcake, which I wasn't expecting. The flavor of the cake was good and moist but it wasn't good enough for me to recommend it. My friend ordered a chocolate cake that was also shaped like a cupcake. It just seemed odd to me. I would skip the dessert. Our service was not that great. We had a lot of time between check ins and I was never offered another drink. We also had to waive the server down when we were ready to place our order. I'm sure he was just busy but it's worth mentioning. I will return to Southbound for the Fried Brussels Salad and would definitely recommend it. We have traditionally loved going to Southbound. Unfortunately, our recent visit was not one of those times! My wife purchased the vegetable plate, which she said was extremely bland. She also stated that the cornbread was stale and as such, ended up not eating the majority of her meal. My meal, the Buffalo chicken on Texas toast wasn't much better either, as it was way too dry! As we were dining, some local musicians came in to provide Live Entertainment. Normally this is a great thing and a welcomed experience, but not this time! Shortly after starting, the band members began playing WAY TOO LOUD, (think garage band), for the environment!! It was extremely hard to have a simple conversation at our small two-top table, over Animal playing on the drums! We normally would have finished our meal with coffee and dessert, but instead chose to pass, due to this very reason. Okay, the good... our server did well overall and our drinks were pretty solid! In conclusion - Minus three stars for food quality and the NOISE! Plus two stars for the service and our drinks. Sadly, it will likely be quite some time before we think about returning to Southbound, as there are far too many other fantastic dining options around Atlanta! read more

I came here for a Sunday brunch reservation on a whim. The vibe is a rustic classy chic, which I enjoyed. The décor seemed tasteful, and fit the general concept this place seems to be going for. The service was attentive and friendly, despite it being a packed house on a Sunday morning. I ordered the hot chicken biscuit. I love a good chicken biscuit. I love a good hot chicken. I was highly anticipating my birthday dinner tonight at Southbound. Unfortunately it was quite a letdown. To start off a lady walked up to our table without any introductions nor did she say hello and proceeded to pour our waters. Upon asking she let me know she was our waitress. Next we started with the spicy smoked wings to share. The wings on first bite tasted over-smoked and were really burnt. It was if someone used too much lighter fluid taste on a bbq grill. My fingers still reek of the smell. For entrees I got the braised lamb ragu and my fiancé got the smoked short rib. The lamb was ok but taste like regular red sauce. The cabbage was a tad bit burnt. The pasta was good. I had a bite of the short rib and it too was burnt rather smoked. The fried onions on top was welted and taste like it was sitting out. I did ask Lydia ,our server, what the chef specialty was and was told Fried Chicken. Tonight that was not an option for me. I ordered the catfish and grits with a side of fried Brussels. My friend ordered the poutine along with a side of grits. The catfish was well battered over the grits with peppered jelly or jam. It was tasty. I would order it again. We read reviews prior to coming here and what's missing in those reviews is how bland the food is. I still gave them 4 stars because the cocktails are outstanding. Our cocktails were creative and brilliantly made. Unfortunately the meat plus two entree we both ordered was so surprisingly lacking flavor. Meat tastes high quality which is great but literally felt like not a lick of seasoning was on it. Super disappointing. The Mac n cheese I'd take off the menu before serving like that. Absolutely nothing to be desired. When ordering bbq style dish the expectation is to get down and dirty (at least fir us) and this is just a spin of bbq that I'm unfamiliar. If you're expecting something flavorful, go with a different dish. read more

No babies and strollers! Kicked us out when we would not endanger a baby by placing then in upside down high chair. The restaurant was empty and we had called ahead for reservation. Sadly rude hostess and lack of caring for children's safety. She would not allow the quiet baby to stay in her stroller even though lots of space. So sad that some hostess do not care about grandparents, mothers and babies. Amanda's response below is not truthful. I spoke to manager and he told me they will not accommodate babies in strollers. I never threatened to try to fire Amanda. But maybe for the sake of the business she should be put away from facing customers. read more

I was there with my wife on a weekday for dinner. We reached around 8:30. There were quite a bit of people inside. Bar was packed. There was live music. Also few other tables were occupied by mostly couples. They have a very nice patio seating. 2-3 groups were seating at the patio. We were seated right away. Before going for dinner, we did go through the menu and we really liked the idea of grilled cauliflower. But once we got the menu at the restaurant, we could not find the cauliflower dish in the menu. After talking to the waiter we came to know that currently they are offering their summer menu, Cauliflower dish was part of their Spring menu. Anyway it was good to hear that a restaurant take seasonal items very seriously. We ordered deviled egg as starter and for entrees we ordered shrimp and corn Risotto and grilled Salmon. Deviled egg was good, it came with bacon bits. I was craving for risotto for some time. When I saw the item on menu, I right away knew what I was going to order. Risotto was very good, very buttery. Perfect combination of rice with corn and cherry tomatoes. Loved it. Salmon tasted very fresh, cooked to the right temperature. Salmon was served on bed of greens. Always eat your greens. We finished our meal with flourless chocolate cake. After the Risotto, the cake was the highlight of our meal. Hot dark chocolate cake with cream on top. You just can not ask for a better ending than that. Overall very satisfying meal. Surely coming back. P.S. I was expecting some more cream on top of the cake, I ran out of cream by the time I finished half the cake. Please provide some more cream with the cake, combination is just unbeatable. read more

Choosing from the menu was difficult. They don't offer much for chicken, aside from wings. I ordered salmon with a side of greens and a side salad. The salmon was wonderful. Cooked amazingly, seasoned well. The greens were not good. Salty, soggy leaves. My date got deviled eggs and the fried Brussel sprouts. The deviled eggs were honestly amazing. The sprouts were terrible. And I love Brussel sprouts. They were undercooked, greasy, soggy, overdressed. Bad. They need to work on their veggie side of the menu. I go to the gym next door and always smell the freshly made brisket when I'm outside. My husband and I decided to give it a try and it was a great experience. Beautiful atmosphere and surreal food. I got the brisket special and my husband got the short rib. Unfortunately we didn't take pictures because once we took that first bite we couldn't stop. OK. First off service was great from the bartender to our server Johnathan. The Bar has an eclectic choice of adult beverages from Burton to a German non-alcoholic beer. As stated earlier, Johnathan our server was great and had water on the table just after we sat down. We asked him for his favorite and my wife took it and had the beef short ribs with collards. Excellent, very tender, but unfortunately under seasoned. I however took A more traditional route as a first timer and ordered the SB Burger with fries "medium rare" which Johnathan repeated to me. Now comes the let down, while our meal came out promptly, my burger was medium well and my fries were truly extra crispy i.e. Almost burnt. In addition, they do not serve ketchup aka Heinz, but rather an over sweet unsalted "sauce" Please offer ketchup and have better quality control as the burger and fries were underwhelming.
