My deceased mother was a big gardener and used to come here for chili plants, guava, lemon, orange…read moreand lime , avocado trees. Unfortunately, we lived in Encinitas so the climate didn't allow the avocado to thrive but she loved getting Asian/Hawaiian plants, and fruits from this nursery. The scene that will greet you is a dirt path and two-sided parking spaces. Try them, very wooded and dense, like you are in the forest, which I loved since I am from back East and we have huge trees and green wooded areas. The staff are very knowledgeable and the value is great. If your plant doesn't grow, call them, and they guide you or replace the plant. I love this place. If I had a house, I would be here for my roses and fruit plants.

I just love this great nursery. It's as far from a big box nursery as you can get with huge in…read moreground permaculture and a food forest type situation. There's a fruit tasting table and I remember the first time I came in and tasted some fruit I'd never even heard of before. If you're a foodie or if you enjoy rare or tropical fruit or even if you're a fan of botanical gardens, this place is amazing It's a mom and pop place (actually just a pop place cause I think the owner Steve who started it still runs it by himself). The sign said they have been here since the 80s. Anyway because it's a small nursery and open 7 days a week, it's a good idea to call if you're planning to make a long journey to visit just to make sure they haven't stepped out. It's usually fine but I see people on other reviews have come in from far away without calling and it's just a good idea to call if it's a mom and pop nursery and you have a long drive. My favorite fruit was white sapote, cherimoya, the bazillions of types of guavas they have, ice cream bean was delicious, and I never knew palms have delicious fruit (what????). I come about twice a year from San Diego and as San Diego nurseries go, this place is in a league of its own. I even just like walking around in there to relax cause it's almost like a fruit botanical garden. And some of the small stuff is very affordable Highly recommend if you have a few hours free to explore this place. It's a great nursery -- kinda like the Garden of Eden!

We have been working with Nathan at Moon Valley Nurseries for about four months now and cannot say…read moreenough good things about him. We came in at the very beginning of landscaping a new build, which meant a blank slate and a lot of questions. Nathan took the time to walk us around the yard, show us what was available, and give us real options instead of just pointing at whatever he wanted to move that day. He was genuinely knowledgeable about the plants, what they would do in our space, and what made sense for the look we were going for. He was also friendly and understanding about our budget and our timeline, which we appreciated. We started with a variety of plants to get the project going, and we have gone back several times since for trees and shrubs. Every visit has been the same experience: good advice, no pressure, and someone who clearly enjoys what he does. Great guy to work with. If you are planning a landscape project, ask for Nathan.

FYI - If you want them to have access to what you have submitted online - you have to sign up for the promotional texts, same goes for the emails. I get a text message the same day asking me to buy something. I responded asking about the quote...nothing. I called in asking about the quote since there was no response and the gentleman on the phone was very nice and respectful. He explained that all of the submissions from potential clients go to a call center and just tend to "get lost in the oblivion". (Great. Glad some strange place had all that info I submitted.) He was able to access my name and that was it. Again, when they tell you they need you to give them permissions so that they can access what you submitted in order to help you, know that is incorrect and it's just a marketing technique to capture your information with your own permission. As NONE of the pictures or the request that I submitted were available to him. He apologized and asked me to text him with my request. I did so. I did not hear anything back so I followed up again. The gentleman seemed engaged at the time which was promising, and asked if we had a contractor or if they needed to quote all of it. I informed him we didn't have a contractor. Then the conversation went cold and no response for another day. Then I receive an email that asked me to schedule a consultation and to meet my landscape designer. Seriously? Was this a joke? No quote attached. Nothing. I replied to the email asking if there was supposed to be an attached quote - nothing. Well, I took a screenshot of the email and text it to the guy that hasn't made up his mind to whether or not my backyard is worth a quote, and asked him if it was supposed to be attached. Crickets. I responded later in the afternoon and again, nothing. Looking at the reviews, unfortunately it seems as if a lot is going on with this company at the moment. (Which may be the reason for the lack of interest in assisting?) I probably should have just read some of the more recent reviews. I called the company that is literally down the road from me. Not as convenient as I had anticipated. It's just a quote my guy. Just a quote. Like I said, I provided everything, just needed to know what would be charged to do it. Now to figure out how to revoke the permissions given to them to advertise and hopefully get a quote from another company.
